Harold Ford says his Chris Shays praises were taken out of context. From his own website
It's hard to play the taken out of context card when the words come from your own website.
"There is not a better Congressman in Washington than Chris Shays," said Ford, to a crowd of about 600 Fairfield University students and community members.
That's truly pathetic.
Chris Shays is my friend, and I was proud to serve with him in Congress. It's unfortunate he's not a Democrat...My comments were clearly taken out of context.

I contributed some money to his campaign back in 2006. Now Every other week or so I get another email entitled "Ford to speak on Fox News at such and such" It does distress me he seems to be a regular on the program.

Crooksandliars needs to learn about how American politics work. There are only two parties. People vote for the person, not the party. And the political center shifts from state to state. A Republican from Maryland can be more liberal than a Democrat from Indiana, for example. All this means there's nothing necessarily wrong with a Democrat from Tennessee endorsing a Republican from Maryland.
Come November, Shays is going to have even more in common with Harold. Then they'll both be LOSERS.

Before the last election I sent Ford $25.00 . After he lost he started going on FOX NOISE. That pissed me off and I asked for my money back. He hasn't replied to my email. What a butt head.
Harold didn't have to make this choice. He just followed his family's example, and became both.
Oh, and I think there may be one too many syllables in the use of "homophobe" to describe him. It's no accident that his current "fiancee's" mother's last name is "Beard." How many phony engagements does it take to read the handwriting on the wall?
I guess it matters to a Democrats political career to be very conservative in a state like Tenn., Ford's voting record (voted in FAVOR of the Military Commissions Act) seems to, by some, get a break on based on the clueless choir of bluedog politics in that state. His votes are very conservative and in line with Repuglican thinking. He's more Republican than Democrat. Could you imagine if he was the first "African American" Pres. candidate instead of Barack Obama?
Shays is one of the last sane republicans out there.

Okay, let's concentrate on the real issues. Ford supported a ban on benefits for same sex couples and is all for a federal marriage amendment. He has constantly pushed the Iraq War (which the DLC has aggressively supported) and helped get Alito in with less difficulty. He's voted for big Repub efforts (like the Bankruptcy Bill) and even tried to help the Repubs get involved with Terri Schiavo. That's just the thumbnail sketch of some of his accomplishments. He's been very Lieberman-like in his voting record and his support of Iraq, both elements which piss off a lot of Democrats. Thankfully he did give bring out one of the great campy attacks ads of all time.
And for those hacks that will argue that supporting = voting, that's true. But if a bill is supported but never gets voted on, it makes sense to point out the support as well.
Not that I'm a fan of Harold Ford or the DLC, but to be honest, if you're going to say something came from Ford's website, you should provide a link to HIS website, not an unofficial fanboy website. A website which has a statement right on it, BTW, stating that it IS an unofficial website, and which provides a link to Ford's actual website.
