Isn't it time to recall Schwarzenegger?
By John Amato Monday Feb 25, 2008 3:41pm
Addressing California's 14 billion dollar deficit, Ahnold is a one-trick nightmare.
For everyone living in CA like myself, Governor Schwarzenegger's State of the State earlier this year was reprehensible. You can see it here.
We now have no way out except to face our budget demons. It does not raise taxes, it cuts the increase in spending and it cuts that spending across the board. As governor, I of course see first hand that the consequences of cuts are not just dollars but people. I recently brought leaders and advocates of various communities into my office to tell them about what we face financially. I had to look them in their eyes and tell them. I mean talking about fiscal responsibility sounds so cold when you have a representative for AIDS patients or poor children or the elderly sitting across from you. It's one of the worst things about being governor---yet, fiscal responsibility like compassion is a virtue because it allows the necessary programs in the first place.
Steve Lopez of the LA Times wrote a great piece about the Governor and said that we're basically in the same situation that California was in when the Davis recall was instituted.
Only a year ago, Gov. Schwarzenegger was telling us we were in good shape financially, with no need for a rainy day fund. Now he says the wolf is at the door. He's planning to lock the gates at 48 California state parks and beaches. And give get-out-of-jail-free cards to tens of thousands of prisoners statewide. And slash school budgets.
These and many other draconian horrors have been proposed by the governor who rose to power on three main recall promises: No more gaping budget holes. No more reckless borrowing. No more out-of-control fundraising and caving in to special interests. Is it time for Total Recall: The Sequel?

The more things change, the more things stay the same, Republicanwise.
I bet the thousands to be released from jail are horrible monsters.
I bet they smoked a joint.
Cringe.
Unfortunately, Democrats have never developed the ability to generate and harness unthinking, vicious hatred in the base the way Republicans have. We just aren't good enough at destroying people for things that are basically beyond their control. Thus, the Democrat is destroyed and the Republican stays.
Yeah Arnold by the way

(oh yeah... and oil moved above $100-a-barrel this morning)
But Ahhhnuld is a rethug so it's a-okay.
Arnie is a putz!
You know when they start closing the parks, they have run completely out of ideas. Monstrous!
Well, who could have possibly predicted this obvious outcome?
The truth is you have a govenor that is with rich people, have a democratic senate and assembly that is in bed with unions, special interests, and republicans that believe its still the 1950's. look its all our fault, from the voters that wanted prop. 13, to illegal aliens that flood our schools and medical centers, to slopehole, to a whole host of issues we never want to address. we only care about in CA is names that offend high schools, illegal alien drivers licenses, wine tasting in france, or other crap like that... also we are business killer, have bad mayors in out major cities... well at least Gavin trys, tony V is a joke period.... seriously ... someone help us ....
Kalifornia
Lots of money for SUVs and Hmmwvs but no money for healthcare.
We don't do recalls. They are undomocratic. In a just world, the California constitution wouldn't allow it, Grey Davis would still be in office, and every executive and trader from Enron, including "whistleblower" Sherron Watkins, would be in a Federal prison.
Arnold
Worries grow for worse 'stagflation'
AP - 1 minute ago
WASHINGTON - It's a toxic economic mix the nation hasn't seen in three decades: Prices are speeding upward at the fastest pace in a quarter century, even as the economy loses steam.
Get it? Prices skyrocketing, economy's nose starting to slowly assume the nose down position. Band still playing.
kablooie @ 7:
well if they wouldn't spend 40 million trying to recruit PE teachers all things we could keep the parks open...
That's a sweet headline.
It's time to recall Frankenstein Jr. But wait! Maybe Dr. Strangelove McCain will bail him out since Frankie Jr. endorsed him. That's if McCain even gets nominated given Rove's dirty tricks again to undermine him and throw the wingnuts nomination to their beer hall putsch convention in the Twin Cities.
Hate to say it, but, I don't think the mess can be cleaned up by either Dem or Rep. California seems to be the perfect case of what happens when the politicians are just there for the rich, and nobody else. Get used to it. It's gone federal.
aaahnold.... you bring a tear to my eye....
i have to give the big guy some credit, and i think we would all agree, that he is different from the average republican because he is equally willing to whore himself to the left or to the right..... whichever will get him elected...
illegal aliens.... wait... which way is the wind blowing...
money for the poor... wait...education... indian gambling..... it matters... who will hate me.... equally at home with dope smokers and ass grabbers, businessmen and tree-huggers.....
"my favorite quote... dont rock the boat... suck you for a vote"
he is an equal opportunity whore, and i resent anyone who says differently
Arnold is a lot of things but not a Rightwing Bush Republican. He's the least of our problems when confronting Right wing thugs IMO.
Bob, Bleeding heart liberal from frisco.
No. It was time to recall him awhile back. Before he got you into this mess. Where did he think the money was going to come from? His wife's family? They're not that rich. His movie career? It wasn't THAT profitable.
It's not just California dude, the entire nation is stupid enough to elect some idiot just because they recognize their name from a movie with lots of cool explosions. We all are more worried about Paris Hilton than corporate socialism and America's plunge into facism. I don't know about you but I am looking around the globe for a new home. I am following the war-hungry, gun-toting, god-lovin idiotic advice, "If you don't like it you can get out."
For a very long time in order to avoid the real cost of running the government and who and who is not paying their fair share, every election cycle has brought more and more bond issues. Bonds to pay for everything from bridges to schools. People I dont think still understand it has been putting the government on a credit card. The debts to bonds have gotten bigger and bigger and has sucked up more and more of the budget. Both Republicans and Democrats have run on the false idea that they can do everything they campain on and just move some money around to pay for it. They have run this way because if anyone told the truth and said that we are not bringing in enough to pay for everything you want and that it will take just a slight slowdown and we will be out of money. If they had even floated the idea of increases in taxes for any sector they would not be elected dog catcher.
I doubt Our Main Stream Media brainwashed Main Stream Media people will promote an Arny recall.
The most they will do is fill the screens and pages with headlines like,
Can The Terminator Be Terminated?
Arnold the Barbarian to the Rescue.
Can Mr. Freeze Freeze the Budget?
Iron man Arnold to Pump Up the Cal Economy.
Schwarzenegger to flex biceps in battle for funds.
Arnold to put Big Pec's power into budget battle.
Six Pack Abs and a budget to boot!
We remember that manufactured Enron Crisis
that started that manufactured recall..

geee wouldn't him cutting taxes to nothing for the richest 10% fix everything?
/snark
Oh, but I thought Gray Davis was the one and only problem that plagued Kaleefohneeuh? Eff that. Ahnuld, a repug, was brought in for many reasons (beyond being a repug), one of them was to make sure that Texas never paid back that 9 billion they stole from CA during the "energy crisis".
bobswire,
On your point, it is funny to hear today that Ahnuld is bitching (rightfully) at The Chimp about missing CA Nat'l Guard equipment, which never made it back from Iraq.
No, don't recall Arnold's stupid ass. These Californians wanted to be "different" by voting in this horribly acting steriod freak WITH NO RESUME, so let their asses suffer.
I'd prefer a total recall of Glenn Beck first.
At least get the dip shit off CNN HN
'Michelle Obama needs to shut the pie- hole.' Is his greatest hit last night. And GWB knob slobber, David Frum joined the stupid party with 'Well, I would say Barack Obama is Vladimir Putin without either the clarity of purpose or the strength of character. I mean, if Vladimir Putin were made out of eclair.'
And WHAT THE FARK IS THIS
FRUM: He is -- if some of us are 9/11 Americans, as a friend of mine recently put it, he`s an Abu Ghraib American. That`s what he sees as the essence of America and moving beyond that.
You are a 9/11 American?
Probably... Probably way past time.. Probably should have never been elected to begin with... yea, he needs to go... But who the hell wants to go thru that crap again... I sure as hell don't.... Every other five fucking minutes its just one thing after another needing a special election cycle or else the sky will fucking fall.... Yes, He sucks just like the last guy only worse... but how much time does he have left anyway?.... I'd rather see Bush 'fired' before I worry about Arnie governator these days.....JD
Carl from L.A. @ 3:
Just think how greedy they are and all the consequences of that. That should generate enough hatred to destroy the rethug pigs.
Left&Left @ 26:
Haha! Reminds me of all the snarking against Connecticut for inflicting LIEberman on us year after year. But what can I say? There he squats, the phoney baloney Action Hero, in the governor's seat. Can't deny the reality.
But take my word for it, I saw the recall for the power-grabbing scam that it was from the beginning, I did not vote for that fool and I tried to get the vote out amongst my friends and family as well as I could. To no avail, obviously.
Arnold is not the problem financially. This is a global problem and it will get a lot worse before we see the light of day. Welcome to the coming Second Great Republican Depression. There is no net below to catch us.
And as one poster above said, Arnold is not a Bush Repug. I don't like Arnold but I don't think he has done much damage to California. I work for the State of Calif and he doesn't like us State workers, but he does back down when confronted with an organized effort to stop the Repug policies.
To those who just don't have much to hang on to in the coming storm, good luck to you. We are all going to need it!
And there is your change.
Nothing will change until they ban the legal bribery industry of lobbyists.
All of the sudden Gray Davis wasn't as bad as the goopers made him out to be.
NO NO NO NO NO ......YOU CALIFORNIANS DESERVE EVERYTHING YOU GET.
YOU WANTED THE TERMINATOR AND WARREN BUFFET RAPING THE STATE FOR ALL IT'S WORTH.....NOW YOU GOT IT.
OT, but any one watching CSPAN, Republican Respresentative Dana Rohrbacher, California, is going off on the Bush Admin--he sounds like a Democrat, I kid you not
weldon (#34), Us Californian are doing just fine thank you. In fact, more of our tax dollars go to other states instead of coming back here. I think you should look in your own backyard before bashing Californians. Most of us are doing just fine.
Not to sound over the deep end here, but what's the deal with his Nazi belt-buckle?
http://blog.getnu.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/schwarzeneggerbranding.jpg
Space Cowboy, he's a Republican so of couse he wears a Nazi belt buckle.
Left&Left @ 26:
yeah, i wanted him like i wanted another hole in my ass.
sorry, one is enough.
the man should have been recalled the minute we learned he met with enron officials before the recall vote/election but i think there was a terror alert that day.
we are becoming a second rate power in the world... get ready for your sino-overlords!!!
It's w-a-y past time to totally recall Arnie.
The whole original Gray Davis recall election was fraudulant, thanks to Diebold and the rushed process.
Worse yet, is a two bit, washed up former body builder, C-movie actor simply doesn't deserve the job in the first place. Putting such a moron in a position of power and leadership is an insult to the entire citizenry.
If you don't think it's time, ask Arnie this question; "Where's the $ for California from Enron?" "Huh? Where is it, you thief enabling co-conspirator?"
Aanolt is a steroid pumping geek that doesn't know what he is doing except making money. He has always prided himself in displaying the manners of a farm animal in a tux. Did you think it was Conan the Librarian you elected? "barbarian" his best role, his most realistic preformance. He gropes and conquers and he runs for gubernator and the dipshits say neato.
How did you elect someone you didn't expect anything of because they had no qualifications? none. No elected office, not even a command of the freaking pronunciation of the name of the state in the language he had to read it in, which further can't use properly?
vell, can erect roanald reyagun, can elect aanold king. How about Emperor Norton?
heck look how the UC's get treated ... like we dont matter
Bemoan Bush , Cheney, Lieberman, Hannity, Coulter etc,I get it. Ahnuld just dosen't get me riled up like the others I mentioned. Rallying against Arnold is counter productive, IMO. Heck the Rightwing fascists hate Arnold more than you do. Lets try to keep things in perspective.
Bob, Dead head Viet-vet anti-war tree huggin san francisco Liberal....
I recall Schwarzenegger. Big guy, got lucky by hooking up with James Cameron.
Considering how badly Bush & Co have screwed up the economy its probably not all his fault. On the other hand, fuck him.
Congressman Darrell Issa is the reason Schwollenpecker came to power. Issa pumped a million dollars into the signature collection effort which forced the recall. We didn't have a cooperative Justice official to send a Democratic governor to prison. We just had a bunch of asshole Rupublican congressmen in Southern CA making sure that Enron gave all Californians a good electrical fucking.
DEREGULATION = REPUBLICAN POWERBASE = DEMOCRATIC RECALL = SCHWARTZENEGGER = MASSIVE FISCAL DEFICIT
And, it doesn't help that there are so many fucking morons living in California. We do deserve everything we get.
el matador, the fighting chicken @ 9:
I might feel better for Arnold if he didn't cater to only the correctional folks union and tryed to knock out the everybody else who worked for the state. Yes and that olde prop 13 fucked up everything but industry.
the recall of gray davis was always bullshit
i warned all my friends, but no one listened
and this is what we get
the fact is, the feds allowed the power companies to rape this state
california wasnt allowed to sue those bastards
add to that the billions still owed the state in compensation for what is occuring with illegals
btw, as goes cali, so goes the nation
the depression is right around the corner
brother, can you spare a dime?
He's as good a governor as he is an actor.
"Isn’t it time to recall Schwarzenegger?" Silly rabbit, throwing democratic elections by recalls and supreme court tampering is a tool for Republicans to use against Democrats, not the other way round!
Kyle @ 20:
If I weren't living in the NYC right now I'd be right there with you. When I leave New York, I leave the country. I've had with the knuckledragging idiots. Life's too short to be drug down to the depths of their hell.
Californuts replaced a colorless wonk with a celebrity illusion because they thought it was cool. The Dims are about to commit an Obamination of their own for pretty much the same reason. Or lack there of. American politics has become American Idol. Gonna be buyers remorse on that one too. The next election's Paris Hilton's to lose.
Left&Left @ 26:
Take our stolen elections and put them up your rectum.
Paul in LA@54 don't get frosty with me asshole, I didn't and wouldn't ever vote for a completely unqualified career juicer to run my state. You Left Coast perverts wanted this goof, so enjoy. I'm just laughing at your dumb asses. Ahahahahahahahaha!
Charlieboy @ 53:
That's entirely false. NO COMPUTER TABULATOR in the State of California had legal software in 2003. There was no legal recall, and no legal replacement election.
2006 was the last uncontrolled election in the State, as a result of hard work replacing the crooked SecState.
In 2003-4, activists worked hard to recall him in turn -- I and others were mocked on these blogs for trying.
The long list of Governor Brownstripe has been recounted many times. He arrived as an illegal alien worker, doing all that bodybuilding and protein powder sales and Weider magazines while on a tourist visa -- paying no taxes. He worked doing Northridge earthquake repairs, bragging on the Tonight Show that he would softsoap the homeowner at the door while his pal Corso was further damaging the chimney on the roof. He met with Ken Lay and Michael Milken (and others) in Bev Hills during the ENRON/Reliant ripoff, and the first of two disastrous wildfires occured (by arson) within months of his taking power. Aside from blocking the seismic repairs of the Bay Bridge, another of his first acts was to slash the firefighting budget (and thereby failing entirely to remove tinderdry dead pines from our forests). He then took $20 million from real estate developers (part of the $125 Million this 'rich man who doesn't need money' promised not to take). His offers to close the parks and PRIVATIZE them for the housing market is just the latest payback to those donors. His offer of $1 Million to Blackwater for emergency services; his failure to demand the return of the NG; and his attempt to bully the state into crude initiatives (at a cost of $50 Million) are fairly well known.
Less well known are his (Blackwater?) security waving their automatic weapons in the faces of protesters, the TANK that elements in the military (and CANG) rolled into the streets of Westwood, along with a Stryker, pointing the turret and wiggling the machine guns at protesters of the Iraq invasion, and his blocking of highways for his long line of Hummer and Navigator caravans in the early days of what he clearly thought of as a rightwing takeover of the US -- these are less reported.
He could be recalled, and I would again work day and night gathering signatures to go with the thousands I collected (for free) back in 2003-4. He should be deported; not saluted. And we need to get his hands off the budget process entirely.
But one always has to wonder at the marvelous anger and near total lack of action by many in these fora.
Left&Left @ 55:
Stolen elections up your rectum, you clown.
Ruthless People @ 52:
Run, you coward.
Don't forget to turn in your citizenship. You wouldn't want to be linked to this country; certainly you wouldn't want Social Security or any of the other benefits of citizenship.
Paul in LA@54 Paul, I honestly believe things would be much better for your state had you and your fellow Cal bethren had voted in that has-been midget Gary Coleman "What you talkin bout, Willis!" Ahahahahahahahaha!
I lived in California for 15 years. The problem with California's finances are VERY simple: Prop 13. Frankly, Californian's aren't taxed like other states.
Example: I bought a 2 BR house in the middle of San Francisco in 1998 for $326k. What were my property taxes every year, forever? $2500. A friend of mine in NJ bought a similar house for $285 a number of years ago, and it is now worth closer to $370. His property tax? $4800 a year. The difference? Schools. In his town, the average run of the mill schools are rated among the best in the nation. San Francisco...umm. not so much. Sure, the magnet and special schools in SF are great, but the average school is a crumbling piece of crap, and everyone knows it, but NOBODY want their "taxes to go up" so the schools fail, the prison system runs off a cliff, and it just writes itself one bad check after another.
So, yeah, the Governator is a typical republican moron, but the people of CA have only themselves to blame for seeing themselves as taxpayers rather than citizens. Taxpayers are consumers of services, citizens are actively and personally involved with their community. Consumers want something for nothing, citizens work together for the common good and consider taxes a necessary part of making the system work and get involved with how they are spent.
I've been saying RECALL SCHWARZENEGGER for years!
It's long past time. He's been horrible.
Schwarzenegger's true colors were unfurled even before he was first elected:

RECALL ELECTION
Buffett's Prop. 13 comments cause stir
"The smoothly running political machine of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger hit its first speed bump Friday when a top adviser to his campaign for governor suggested overturning California's landmark property-tax initiative, Proposition 13.
Warren Buffett, named earlier this week as an adviser to Schwarzenegger's campaign in a move widely touted as giving the movie star credibility on economic issues, may have nullified his own value when he told the Wall Street Journal that property taxes in California are too low and suggested that Prop. 13 ought to be undone...."
Buffet, of course, disappeared from Schwarzenegger's campaign later that day.
Even after the state was raped by Enron, the powers-that-be rallied to maintain the status quo.
And there's not a politician in this state with the guts and/or common sense to demand even so much as a reform of Prop 13. Consequently, this once great state continues to go to the dogs.
Tweakerbell @ 60:
It's rather more complicated than that.
The same wikipedia article notes that the fixed property tax is most disparate in the coastal areas, and less so inland (due to lower house costs inland). So your SF example is an outlier.
What, exactly, HAS Schwarzenegger done for CA since he was elected?!
At the recent annual meeting for the National Governors' Association, he referred to the Bush administration’s use of our state National Guard equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan, including humvees, helicopters, trucks, bulldozers, planes, generators, and GPS devices, by saying "it's not fair." Gee, thanks, Arnold, for taking such a firm stand against the theft of our state's resources by the federal government. I'm sure the entire Bush administration is quaking in their shoes right now, wondering what you're going to do about it.
This is what he should be doing right now for the people of CA, the people he was elected to represent: He should get honest and real. The private paramilitary industry, including Blackwater Worldwide, has plenty of money to supply ITS mercenary forces with everything they need to perform whatever mission they’re supposedly pursuing both in Iraq and within our borders, as well as to provide for hefty corporate profits. When there is no money in the Pentagon budget to reimburse our state National Guard units, while there is plenty of money available, through lucrative, no-bid contracts offered by the U.S. State Dept., it’s clear that the theft of our National Guard equipment by the Bush administration is a matter of choice and priorities, not money.
Instead of telling the Bush administration that “it’s not fair,” Schwarzenegger must find a way for citizens’ voices to be weighted more heavily than the lobbying efforts of the private paramilitary industry. He and the rest of the governors should insist collectively that we redirect our military expenditures from the private paramilitary industry back to our National Guard units, which are answerable to us and represent our best interests.
Don't hold your breath, though. It would require some REAL, NONPARTISAN COURAGE to do that.
And just what the ****? is our government doing to help ease our economic
spiral into the abyss? why, give the corporations more tax breaks, increased
foreign visa workers, and outsourcing more jobs........
When they say "of and for the people" they surely must mean themselves.
I'm done with it all.
Who'd have thought Schwarzenegger would tell the truth while in office. I'm proud that he can tell the truth to his constituents.
Schwarzenegger is a neo-con crook who's agenda is to cripple California's economy and government in order to privatize them. Which means no oversight, low pay, no benefits and excessive greed for owners. 'Economic Shock' will work just fine...

There has been no shortage of books chronicling the dystopia that is the Bush Administration. And in this job, I’ve read quite a few of them. None of them have made as powerful an impact as Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine. I promise you, it will change how you look at government policy and responses. It also finally sealed forever, for me at least, the coffin of the utter bollocks of Friedman economics. Listen to me carefully, you free market fanatics: FRIEDMAN. POLICIES. DO. NOT. WORK. PERIOD. His version of ‘free market economics’ STIFLES democracy. They create an oligarchy that is the opposite of democracy.
Don’t believe me? Author Naomi Klein gives compelling examples in history proving that “Disaster Capitalism” has been the foundation of government’s actions and how none of it has been done for the benefit of the populace. "

No, it's not time to recall Schwarzenegger! It was time to recall him five years ago!
Arnold was a joke from the beginning. That is what you get when you put unqualified people in office. Wake up, America!
Like father, like son. I hope Arnie gets a Total Recall in California.
Californians, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???????????

Tattoo one of those on your forehead in reverse, so you can remind yourselves.
Why is it easier to look the poor and disadvantaged in the eye and say "cut" than to look a rich person in the eye and say "tax?"
"So your SF example is an outlier".
Wikpedia be damned. Or rather, the conclusions you've drawn from it. Prop 13 was bankrolled by fat cats, for fat cats, and has inflicted enormous damage to the state's infrastructure.
Schwarzenegger is totally, and utterly incompetent with matters of the State. I did not vote for him, and anyone with an inkling of a brain cell knew it would all come to this day.
Hmmm well I lived under Davis and Wilson, neither of them were exactly doing too hot either.
Paul in LA@72 Paul, you need to lighten up friend. You can't escape the fact that an enormous amount of your fellow Californians voted for this imbecile. I understand your embarrassment (I had a uncle who when drunk would whip out his dick in public and urinate) but it is what it is.....so shut up and take it! Don't go postal on us, we didn't vote him. Me, I would have voted for that porn star that was on the ballot.LOL.
Simple answer to title header: Yes.
for CA-12 residents, there is a special election on April 8, 2008, Tom Lantos seat. You kind of have to hunt for the info. Easy enough to do here on the net. Winner must get 50% +1 or there will be another election in June 2008. For now I am calling Pelosi every time I need my rep to hear me.
California may be dying too.
<<>>
Prop 13 has never been the problem.
The state is in the red due to over spending, not undertaxation.
<<>>
No it hasn't. The free lunch attituded has. We had to pass a state proposition to prevent the state from taking money that belongs to highway improvement projects.
LongTooth @ 74:
I voted against it; the point is that choosing an SF example is picking from the steep side of the curve. Curves were not invented by wikipedia. The inability of the state of California to prevent ENORMOUS POWERS from attacking us, the fifth-to-eighth largest economy on the earth, is not really the point. Blaming California's school insolvency on Prop. 13 is a canard -- our problem is A LOT bigger than that.
Ron.j @ 80:
By 'state' you mean Governor Brownstripe.
Ron.j @ 79:
That's ridiculous. This state's economy is larger than, say, that of France, and yet the tax load is TINY, especially as regards the corporations taking huge profits here, and giving back as close to next to nothing as they can.
Take your overspending (on education and social programs) Republican corporate-welfare argument to that prominent rightwing blog, www.whogivesafuckwhatyouthink,youliar.com.
Like PIL, I take offense that we in CA deserve what we get.
Arnold was not legally elected. He was foisted upon us by the repug machine after Gray Davis had the huevos to sue the energy brokers for 9 billion, We had an 11 week campaign. 11 weeks! Darryl Issa was the patsy, as he thought HE would get the nod, and cried like a baby when he realized that, like Lee Oswald, he had been set up.
The whole thing stunk. But like LA Confidential and others have pointed out, the current financial morass we are into is just the opening round of a larger economic collapse. CA is just seeing it sooner because it is the 5th largest economy on the planet.
Left&Left @ 77:
Put the stamp on your own head, and mail yourself to yourself. You're talking to people who uniformly did NOT vote for the clown, and our elections have been FOUND TO BE stolen in his regard.
You want to California bash and then get upset when the sharp end of the state rips your rectum into a mailslot. Nevermind, maybe the redwoods will do your rear some good.
If the recall had been legit, then Mary Carey would be our current governor.
I can dream. can't I?
It's a 16 billion dollar deficit, not 14 billion. Arnold's policies suck that much more, not counting the 9 billion dollars in reparations from the gouging energy companies he waived in 2006.
Thanks arnold, YOU'RE FIRED!
Paul in LA @ 81:
"Choosing an SF example"? What are you talking about? That was a straightforward report that Schwarzenegger's (initially) much ballyhooed economic adviser Warren Buffet advocated reform of Prop 13. Not Prop 13 as it impacted San Francisco, but as it impacted California.
You do recall Buffet having said as much, right? And what happened then? I'll tell you what: he was gone with the wind.
The state is in the red due to over spending, not undertaxation.
That’s ridiculous. This state’s economy is larger than, say, that of France, and yet the tax load is TINY, especially as regards the corporations taking huge profits here, and giving back as close to next to nothing as they can.
----------------
I live in California. The state over spends and the tax load is not tiny.
T'would seem that steroids make you forgetful. At least he's following the example of another Californian Governor, who couldn't recall Iran-Contra.
My son as a first year teacher knows he will be receiving a pink slip in March. I have been in the public sector for 36 years, and this financial disaster appears to be the worst I have seen. And it was only 5 or so years ago when there were lay-offs where I work. Time to make sure buyers of yachts have their loop hole taken away so they have to pay sales tax on their yachts. Not that it would make much difference, but it is a symptom of problems in this state.
All (wilting) muscle, no brains. But, what did you guys expect from a functionally illiterate lumberjack ??! He is a GOP (p)residential material, also cannot speak English.
You guys need a guy like Ed Rendell. We in Pennsylvania are enjoying a nice surplus upwards of $400mil.
Actually, Arnie is smart and tenacious as hell. We had a major competence problem with Davis and some of us crazy Democrats were not horrified. The guy is not a normal republican: Calif repubs are extremist weirdos and would never have backed him normally.
Releasing prisoners? Hallelujah! We have a major money suck from an overpowerful prison guard's union. Also dying rural areas discovered they could get a prison installed. If I were to cure Calif's budget I would dump out every non-violent offender and have my National Guard destroy a few prisons.
As a native and former resident of California, I have to say the state deserves what it gets. In spite of all the damage done by Republicans, they have continually elected (and re-elected) crappy Republican governors whose economic policies have devastated the state, its infrastructure, and its citizens: Reagan, Dukemejian, Wilson, and now Arnold. I won't even visit there anymore, unless I have to. The last time I did, the highways were crumbling, while brand new multi-million dollar car dealerships were springing up everywhere. You can't even breathe there without some kind of mandated insurance being forced on you.
aaahnold…. you bring a tear to my eye….
i have to give the big guy some credit, and i think we would all agree, that he is different from the average republican because he is equally willing to whore himself to the left or to the right….. whichever will get him elected…
illegal aliens…. wait… which way is the wind blowing…
money for the poor… wait…education… indian gambling….. it matters… who will hate me…. equally at home with dope smokers and ass grabbers, businessmen and tree-huggers…..
“my favorite quote… dont rock the boat… suck you for a vote”
he is an equal opportunity whore, and i resent anyone who says differently
Mwahahaha!!!!
When they close the gates to the state and national parks, who's going to try and keep me out?! LOL. I'll be in there, camping and taking photographs and living large without any green-suited ranger telling me WTF to do... Yahoo! Wait a minute... did I just become a Republican?
lol.
No matter, I'm still voting for Obama. Rethuglicans have screwed America, and the big payback is JUST beginning!
We can tell things are getting serious because ünserer Gübernator's hair has gone from bright chestnut to a somber shade of dark brown. I suppose that when it goes completely raven black we'll know the end times are upon us.
I have no sympathy for California. Well, actually I do, but, Schwartzenager could not have been elected without massive crossover support from Democrats. I remember reading a lot of posts warning that "You'll be sorrrreeeeeee".
Never, ever, trust a GOPer or a corporatist.
But...but...but...
Kos said he was a (D)!

That's because you aren't a corporation.
