Company Sued for Waterboarding the sales team

I bet you Jonathan Hoenig would agree that a company can waterboard you for a little added motivation.

A supervisor at a motivational coaching business in Provo is accused of waterboarding an employee in front of his sales team to demonstrate that they should work as hard on sales as the employee had worked to breathe.

In a lawsuit filed last month, former Prosper, Inc. salesman Chad Hudgens alleges his managers also allowed the supervisor to draw mustaches on employees' faces, take away their chairs and beat on their desks with a wooden paddle "because it resulted in increased revenues for the company."

Prosper president Dave Ellis responded that the allegations amount to "sensationalized" versions of events that have gone uncorroborated by Hudgens' former coworkers...read on

Did Alberto and Rummy give that supervisor a standing ovation?

If the supervisor used water torture on anyone he deserves to go to jail and loose a shit load of money.

The best way to deal with an asshole boss is to get all the employees, follow the SOB home, kick the shit out of him. I guarantee the next day the boss will show up to work all black and blue with a new attitude.

Is it me or is this a sign of the spread of torture? Or rather, the spread of the mentality that torture is acceptable or that the term "torture" is very, very selective?

Starts in the government, then down to the people.

Sales...... I always knew I had a good reason not to go into sales... Err besides the fact that everyone I ever knew who did that line of work always looked haunted in some kind of weird way to me... Some of them lived in great houses and had lots of toys... But they just didn't look like life was any fun for them anymore...
Waterboarding ehh... Put's a whole new spin on 'Death of a Salesman'....And poor Willy thought he had it rough.............. JD

Waterboarding saves lives. Jesus was told that one of his disciples would betray him. If he'd waterboarded them all, Judas would have confessed, along with all the others, and Jesus might still alive today.

It's only a matter of time before we get reports of youngsters and school kids trying it. Wait and see. That's the slippery slope. Do it, talk about it, say it's OK, show video demonstrations on internet, say, "It's a frat boy prank." Presto, kids are doing it.

§ 2340A. Torture

(a) Offense.— Whoever outside the United States commits or attempts to commit torture shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both, and if death results to any person from conduct prohibited by this subsection, shall be punished by death or imprisoned for any term of years or for life.
(b) Jurisdiction.— There is jurisdiction over the activity prohibited in subsection (a) if—
(1) the alleged offender is a national of the United States; or
(2) the alleged offender is present in the United States, irrespective of the nationality of the victim or alleged offender.
(c) Conspiracy.— A person who conspires to commit an offense under this section shall be subject to the same penalties (other than the penalty of death) as the penalties prescribed for the offense, the commission of which was the object of the conspiracy.

If this is real, I'd love to see a lawsuit come out of it! Maybe it could go all the way to the supreme court and win, and then the government would really look bad for waterboarding detainees.

Oh wait... The supreme court wouldn't help at all!

So I guess we'll all just kick back and wait for the employee waterboarding motivational retreats. They can't be that far down the road. Maybe they'll attach some electrodes to your naughty bits, right in the comfort of your cubicle, that shock you whenever you try and use the internet for non-work reasons!

Torture is fun and entertaining.
Torture is an every day event.
Torture is what America does.
Torture is patriotic...

The normalization of inhumane treatment we witness in our daily lives makes immune to it's effect.

Witness how this Supervisor in this article mimics what he assumed to be "NORMAL" and "ACCEPTABLE" behavior.

The generation of children we are raising today will only mimic these events if they aren't taught why it is unacceptable and illegal.

I have been a salesman and have had the management harass and intimidate me. Even when you are the top salesman of the month they will sometimes just keep pushing. It was hard enough just to take a vacation because you would lose a week of possible sales. There are a lot of more physical jobs I've had but, mentally sales were the most challenging and sometimes the hardest.

The waterboarding is a new and exciting twist, but this sort of thing has been part of sales "culture" forever. I remember having losers push an egg across the room with their noses used to be popular.

In my book, if you don't tell the boss where he can shove his egg, you've failed -- life. Which would probably explain why I'm not in sales. Honestly, even "do you want fries with that" is less demeaning than some business atmospheres.

hope's picture

I love the comments on the Salt Lake Tribune site. Some of the commenters claim they have worked for this company, concede that this and other "motivational" cute tricks are routinely used, but insist the guy doing the waterboarding is a "good guy who meant nothing by it" while the victim is only suing because he wants the money.

IMMATURE. Come on dude, you're supposed to be above petty insults like this.

So this company is waterboarding employees, and now they are getting sued.

Hmmm....

Two things:

1. This is what happens when government crimes against humanity go unpunished...people start to immitate it because they think it is OK. It's exacly like a child watching a parent smoke or drink heavily.

2. Maybe we need to more of the facts before rushing to judge. This case does smell of "sensationalism". Why would an employee agree to be waterboarded in the first place? Um...MORON?? Maybe it was a "Yes Man" looking for a promotion.
