Even though John McCain's new BFF says anti-Catholic things with great vigor. McHagee says he's just a little bit misunderstood:
I have always had great love for Catholic people and great respect for the Catholic Church. My wife comes from a Catholic family and millions of my viewers are Catholics. I am shocked and saddened to learn of the mischaracterization of my views on Catholics that has spread while I spent the weekend celebrating the 50th anniversary of my entry into the ministry with family and friends.
Throughout my career I have been a strong critic of Christian anti-Semitism. But any fair review of my record will demonstrate that I have consistently criticized all Christians – Protestant and Catholic alike – for the sin of anti-Semitism. In fact I rarely address this topic without castigating the founder of Protestantism, Martin Luther, for the horrendous anti-Semitism he spouted towards the end of his career. It is a bitter irony that in my zeal to hold my fellow Christians accountable for our past anti-Semitism, I now find myself compared to an anti-Semite. To call me “anti-Catholic” makes about as much sense as calling me “anti-Protestant.” I am, most assuredly, neither.
I wonder why The TODAY Show hasn't invited Bill Donohue back on to discuss this issue further?

There is plenty to criticize about the Catholic church throughout the ages (can anybody say "Inquisition" or "teaching people in Africa that condoms spread, not prevent, AIDS"?). The problem with Hagee is that he is a fascist "Christian dominionist" who believes in and actively PURSUES Christian control of America. He is a dangerous, hateful, horribly unChristian anti-American.
Maybe we can get Donohue and Hagee together in a cage fight to the death. Let these two religious whackjobs take each other out. (Note: I'm not suggesting that all Christians are whackjobs, only those who follow the likes of Hagee, Donohue, Falwell, Swaggart, Bakker, and other like-minded Christofascists. The vast majority of Christians, like followers of most religions, are decent people who try to live up to their faith. But Hagee and his ilk are the "false prophets" that Jesus warned would come in his name.)
i went channel surfing for the hagee show on sunday morning... found it, but could only stand a few minutes of it...
enough to catch a few seconds of the son and a woman - both with the last name of hagee - who are not far behind the old man in the contest to see who is the biggest tub-o-lard on that show... gross.

Then I watched to see if they had anything about the triumphal entry into Badhdad of Ahmadinejad. Nothing, zilch. American soldiers dying, billions wasted, reputation savaged and NBC judged how not eating breakfast will make our fat teenagers fatter, and a feel-good story about a Sioux Indian finally getting his medal (20 years AFTER he died) and a story about how we don't sleep enough. To be honest, I'm not 100% convinced of my own comment, and I agree (at least in part) with yours. I honestly think that most people, regardless of race, religion, gender, orientation, or nationality, are fairly decent and willing to "live and let live." Most Christians I've known (from grandparents to coworkers to neighbors to strangers on buses) are trying to be better within themselves, and while they might not like gays/Jews/Muslims/Pagans/whomever, they aren't wanting to hurt folks.
But you're right, I think most Christians IN THE UNITED STATES would either (a) be the first to stone Jesus or (b) be the ones standing by at the crucifixion saying, "Gee, that's too bad, but it's not my problem."
And either way, Hagee is neither a Christian nor a decent human being. He is a perfect visual/auditory metaphor for American Christo-capitalism: fat, bloated, self-indulgent, hateful, and in it for the buck.

This author talks about how cruel and inhumane the Catholics were to the Jews during the Great Plague (around mid-1300's) - throwing them into pits, burning them alive, just general nastiness because they thought the Jews were poisoning all the wells with plague. The author then says that the English didn't do any of that sort of thing, implying they were too well-mannered for that. As a person who has been exposed to Hagee and his doctrine, I can honestly tell you that he is NOT anti-Catholic, anti-Christian, or anti-American. He has very strong opinion and beliefs and he expresses them. Not only should you have respect for that, regardless of your atheistic enthusiasm, but you should actually applaud it. Louis Farrakhan says a lot of things too. He has his opinions and he shares them openly, you may argue with any of them, but that doesn't mean their arguments have NO merits, even if you don't agree with them.

I have listened to Hagee for hours. I worked with a Bible-thumper (not a Christian, but a Bible-thumper--a specific subspecies) who was reading Hagee's books, and we discussed the man for hours. Hagee is a "dominionist," and that is "unAmerican" in MY book. Any person of any faith who believes THEIR version of God told THEM that THEY should run America is "unAmerican" in my opinion.
One reason for the intolerant attitude toward Hagee is the intolerant hatred spewed by Hagee and, sadly, so many other so-called "Christian leaders" in this nation. Hatred for anybody non-Judeo-Christian, that is; as long as you are one of those two faiths, you're okay--as long as you follow HIS version of scripture. Just like Rod Parsley, Hagee wants this to be a CHRISTIAN nation with the Bible replacing the Constitution. Sorry, "Souls," but calling for the overthrow of our government is unAmerican.
You can defend him all you want--that's your right--but don't attack us for calling Hagee what he is. Yes, many comments here are on the level of "he's a fat, stupid ass," but considering the target, that's about all he deserves. Same goes for Farrakhan and Parsley and all these other so-called Christians. After 20 years in corporate America I came to the conclusion that most businesses are not well run - people just stumbled along and operating in what was the most secure economy on earth kept most of them from falling apart. Be very careful it is one of the devils most polished skills to make the things of God seem crazy and irrelevent. I am a fan of Pastor Hagee from the hundreds of hours I have watched of his sermons. He is not perfect those who are can cast the first stone. Those of you who have this myth that Christians are intolerent hateful people should also be careful. Christianity is about your personal relationship with Jesus and God do not let things that man may do in the name of any religion side track you from getting yourself right with God. There is only one way to heaven whether you are a christian a muslim a catholic a non believer or whatever you must accept Jesus as your saviour and it is a wonderful gift. Not one of us is a good person good enough to get into heaven on our own merits. We are not judged by man standards we are judged by Gods standards. God knows that non of us can live up to a perfect sinless life that is why Jesus sacrificed his life for us. He bore our sins and took the punishment for them so we wouldn't have to. Jesus reconciled us with God. But if we do not accept Christs gift God has no option but to honor our rejection of him and let us pay personally for our sins which means an eternity in Hell. Remember it was our choice not his. So all of this bickering back and forth is just distracting to the central point. Which is what the devil wants.
