Down With Tyranny!

Bush, Cheney and other members of the Regime have been stealthily flying around the country to do very private fundraising dinner with wealthy Republicans for many of the rubber stamps who have supported their entire heinous agenda. It isn't likely that you'll find a more endangered GOP incumbent, nor one who has been a more servile rubber stamp, than extremist kook Tim Walberg from southern Michigan. MI-07 is a moderate district including the western suburbs of Ann Arbor and Lansing and all of Battle Creek. Last year Walberg ousted the moderate Republican who represented the district, Joe Schwarz, and the Democrats weren't prepared, fielding a fringy candidate (who still held Walberg to 51% of the vote). This year the Democrats are very well prepared.

Mark Schauer is a tremendously respected and well-liked state senator in a district that covers much of the reddest parts of MI-07. Blue America has already enthusiastically endorsed Mark (check out his FDL session from October 27) and this week the two biggest Michigan blogs, Michigan Liberal and Blogging For Michigan are trying to raise some grassroots donations for Mark to counterbalance Darth Cheney's visit. Mark would make an extraordinary congressman. Let's give him a hand at the Blue America ActBlue page.

If you are able to give a little towards Schauer's campaign, please do so.  I'm still stunned that anyone--given the track record of destruction that the Bush administration has left in its wake--would be persuaded to donate to any Cheney endorsement, but we have to push back with beating their fundraising.  Let's show Cheney & Co.  that we're committed to a blue Michigan.

Thanks for posting this, Nicole. The Michigan blogosphere is really pushing hard to get Mark elected. We'll be extremely grateful if he gets national netroots backing. He deserves it, too! :)

Is this an Amway/DeVol/Blackwater seat by any chance?

Cheneys going out to schmooze all the freshly minted and old money War Millionaires and Billionaires?

Nothing unusual bout that. War is a Racket.

I haven't seen any press coverage of Cheney, but Our Preznit seems to be spending as much time as possible as far from the political wars as possible. I wonder if there are any conditions in Antarctica he can "investigate". Maybe that landslide on Mars needs a visit. Why no hugs for McCain this cycle?

Hey everybody! Go here to donate!

LOL Oh I'm sure if this guy is popular is the "REDDEST" parts he will be a major asset to LIBERAL causes. When the HELL are you going to wake up.

Um........if you run a Dem in a completely Rep district or state, how is all the money in the world gonna win it for him?

Schauer is a pretty solid progressive. His state senate district isn't red and CD07 was held by a moderate who was primaried & defeated by Walberg who had the backing of Club For Growth - a radical & wealthy conservative group. Walberg barely beat the Democratic challenger in the general, and has very low approval ratings. So Schauer having a good shot here does not mean he's a DINO, if that's what you're getting at.

I always thought the Evil Empire was the New York Yankees....

When is Cheney's shuttle from the Deathstar expected to land?

Boogedy boogedy!!!

Where I come from, the "Evil Empire" can only refer to one thing, the Yankees.

I have never understood why most Republicans don't understand that when one the their candidates give a speech and talks about how they are going to cut their taxes and work to help the economy they are not talking about the people in the crowd. They believe in classes, they want to keep poor people poor and rich people rich. They believe in a system where rich people should get all the breaks from government because they are the cream. Poor people should work hard and shut the fuck up. People should know their place and not get all upset with their lot in life, rich people have problems too. Its not rich peoples fault your not one of the elite. Taxes are a way of stealing from the hard working people and giving it to the lazy. If your not rich its is your fault. You should just work harder, pray harder, and support the rich people that the real Americans. But then again I don't think like a Republican so I will never understand.

I have followed Mark's political carreer ever since he knocked on my door and asked if he could put a sign in my yard when he first ran for State Rep. He is a very impressive person and is a great candidate, especially against the odious Walberg who has very little following except among the religiously insane and won his seat with outside funds.
It is past time to take the Repugs on in their backyard. With enough funding Schauer will certainly take this gerrymandered Republican seat.

The post didn't say that his district is the reddest. The post said that his district includes some of Michigan's reddest areas. The entire district leans moderate, and the demographics have been shifting somewhat. The current incumbent is so weak that the GOP in one of the reddest counties is considering running someone against him in the August primary, and it was the really very red parts of the district that put it in the position where it's now probably the best Democratic pick-up opportunity in Michigan this year.

Mark Schauer isn't just a popular state Senator. He's also been a staunch ally of Michigan's progressive blogosphere, being the first public official to openly come to the defense of one of the blogs helping to run this fund raising campaign (Blogging for Michigan) back when the Republican Senate Majority Leader blocked access to it from Senate computers back in August.

The entire state of Michigan is gerrymandered to hell by the repukes, those freedom hating bastards. They won 60% of our U.S. House seats with only 42.3% of the popular congressional vote statewide! That's not a typo! 42.3% of the vote = 60% majority representation for these fascist bastards. Same thing in the Mich State Senate. This Walberg clown only won because the fascist Club for Growth dumped 5 million out of state dollars into his campaign coffers in 2006.

Walberg is one sick puppy. If Dick Cheney and Jerry Falwell had a baby together, it would be this Walberg cretin!

The Evil Empire Is Trying To Intimidate Blue America’s Mark Schauer

Do what we say Mark, or we'll make your pork that uggho Carrie Fisher!

Cap Jones-

I'm in GR (and God knows this is a conservative district), so I'm a bit removed, but I thought that the 7th usually voted Republican. I know Schwarz is quite liberal compared to the mainstream of the GOP, but that Schwarz lost to the far-right Walberg tells me that either that district is either solidly Republican or Walberg motivated the hell outta his fundie base.

Guess I'm askin' if Schauer will certainly take the seat, or is it just wishful thinkin' on our part?

[Don't forget to close your html tags. You're welcome. ; ) Site Monitor]

Andy, Schauer WILL take the district. Schwarz lost in a primary in which less than 10% of the Repues even turned out, and it took lots of Club for Growth dollars to get him booted.

Schauer is well known and has strong popularity in his district. Along with his fundraising capabilities, he can take down Walberg.

Schauer has easily won formerly Repug seats in both the Michigan House and Senate in the recent past. Also, after the Conservatives log-rolled Schwarz for the inferior Rev. Walberg, many Repugs in the Western part of the district will not vote for him.
Hell, Walberg was nearly defeated by a "joke" candidate in 2006 because the Dems had written the 7th off after the Repug gerrymander in the 1980's. Certainly a strong effort with a rising star of the Democrats can beat this Stiff!
Besides, if you knew about the many idiotic blunders the Walberg has made, including a childish tiff with the Battle Creek newspaper, your doubts would be eased.

Indeed. What I think people aren't really grasping here is that the reason why Cheney is coming to town is that Walberg has done so abysmally in terms of fund raising, and has been outdone in that department by Mark Schauer. I mean, it can't be said enough ... the Republican Party in Jackson County -- self-professed birthplace of the GOP -- considered running someone against Walberg this year in the primary. That should dispel anyone's illusions about whether Walberg is really weak or whether Democrats in the state are guilty of wishful thinking.
