I see that bush did in fact Veto the Bill that would have outlawed/prohibited
waterboarding as a torture technique. I am anxiously awaiting McCain's statement
as to bush's actions inasmuch as McCain has, on numerous occasion, indicated his
strong opposition to waterboarding as a method of torture. Will he waffle again???

Some curious twists here ... seems the little girl sound asleep in Hillary's red phone ad wants Barack to pick up the phone!

girlyboyGeorgie just vetoed the bill banning waterboarding. I hope the cia people that do the actual waterboarding realize that 'following orders' is NOT an acceptable defense after they are arrested. There were some Germans that tried that once already and they were all hung or shot.

Torture violates the Geneva conventions does it not? Couldn't girlyboygeorgie be arrested next time he steps on the ground of another country that signed those conventions?

McCain is a double talking flip-flopper. He's probably for waterboarding now. As far as his strong opposition regarding waterboarding; It has to do with it not being torture. That should come as no surprise.

In the piece about The Republican War on Science, something was brought up that has always bothered me about how Republicans argue. At one point they say there were false alarms regarding the “population crisis,” the “energy crisis,” the “cancer epidemic” from synthetic chemicals. Putting that out there like it is excepted fact that all of these things have been prove to be "false alarms". I don't know anyone that thinks that ALL of these things are NOT in some degree "crises". When this happens in an argument you can spend all of your time and energy arguing all of these are not examples of false alarms and never get to what ever the original argument was about. In that case you nor the Republican wins the argument but the water is muddied enough and that is what the Republican wanted anyway. They don't have to win they just need to leave doubt. I find this one of the most frustrating things politics.

Since when did reality matter in American politics? The Kennedy era, maybe?

I wonder if obviously intelligent individuals like David Iglesias consider themselves Republicans in spite of having been duped into taking actions against their own self-interests. I find those types all around in daily life and don't expect many of them to admit they were wrong:there is no changing their minds. But, I heard Mr. Iglesias still expresses allegiance to the party that disdains his very nature but does it by smiling in his face! I may be wrong, but I am curious.

“Market conditions are the worst anyone in this industry can ever remember. L.A. Confidential's picture

It’s almost true, that’s why it’s so funny.

Panic buying of dollars on Middle East currency exchanges bolstered the U.S. currency in overnight trading as members of the United States’ largest exporting block convened their annual meeting in Van Nuys, CA amid persistent speculation they would begin accepting payment only in U.S. dollars.

Richard Stiffley, chairman of the Organization of Porn Exporting Websites (OPEW) promised that member companies would continue to keep the supply of U.S. porn flowing to the Middle East, Africa and South America. But he admitted that OPEW was considering a U.S. dollar-only policy after years of amassing tremendous foreign currency reserves, particularly Iranian Rials and Venezualen Bolivars.

OPEW member company revenue accounted for nearly one-third of the entire United States export market in 2007.

“We’re not going absorb the currency exchange costs anymore,” said Mr. Stiffley. “These guys have an insatiable appetite for U.S. porn. We’re doing all we can to upgrade our web servers and expand our fiber optic network capacity as fast as possible. But we simply don’t have the capability to simultaneously process the huge inflow of web site subscriptions denominated in foreign currencies while keeping up the streaming video-on-demand.”

“If they’d just give it a rest for one night we might be able to catch up with the currency conversions, but they never do. We don’t want to cut off anybody cold, so the best thing for all parties concerned is to start accepting U.S. dollars only.”

Wow, Russert said the Caucuses are a Democratic process that’s against Clinton. Knowing the Republicans are manipulating the Caucus numbers. Finally he said something that is the truthful. Here, this notion that forty percent of the country hates Hillary is not true. The percentage is not even close to that. And they are finally questioning that those Republican cross over numbers Obama has are going to disappear likely in the general election.

More over the primary numbers for Hillary are likely blowing away the numbers matched against McCain; Hillary is certainly pulling in a very impressive solid Democratic base. Here, in the first time in my views I agree with Pat Buchanan, I personally like McCain and would vote for him but will not for two reasons, which I agree with Pat Buchanan. One to stay in Iraq is a mistake where likely a pull out will result in no problem which should have been done long ago, and waterboarding is torture and it does not represent me or America and I will not vote for anyone who even suggests it might be O.K. for any reason.

Even though I personally think that General Electric the parent of MSNBC is way over its head in corruption and money manipulation the electorate could very well forgive them and move forward in science and industry and encourage them to get the hell out of money management. Sorry but those insider things that deal with big money with Andrea Mitchell being privy to her husbands Allen Greenspand operations or strategies is something that is much of a conflict of interest coupled to CNBC money market station glows with sense a huge impropriety. The Ronald Reagan Hallmark of progress being an important product, but, begs the question now, for whom?

When the dust settles huge corporate leaders will get to their senses to understand that the Democratic Party is also in favor of business but not the way it is played out today. As a citizen and a veteran I am having a hard time with those so called Kingdoms especially Arabs that are able freely to invest in America’s industry and have too much influence to be able to manipulate our representatives. There is a conflict of interest here and it needs change, its only my opinion but I think in my heart that Bush has been in consul with the Arabs with economic issues and Iraq war actions.

History is written by the victors.

What Victors?

As we know from the L.A. Confidential screenplay, a dark, brilliant and insightful work, understanding who the heroes are is difficult work.

In this world of stained reality, the heroes are not absolute, they are relative. Because they are human and thus flawed.

So go the victors.

The original thread at 8 supposed the Dubya might be prosecuted for war crimes by some country more enlightened to the observance of the Geneva conventions. So he might, but it would depend on how that country wanted to proceed with the then current occupant of the White House. Principles in a practical world.

In WWII we prosecuted the Germans and Japanese for the crimes, and only the ones, that they did, but we didn't.

We had wanted to prosecute the Germans for unrestricted submarine warfare against civilian targets until it was demonstrated that we had done much the same thing.

We couldn't even begin to talk about unrestricted aerial bombing, not after Dresden, Hiroshima or Nagasaki et al.

So: What Victors? You ask.

You are right to ask, maybe it will be McBush and his holdover henchmen from Dubya.

They would call themselves victors. I wouldn't count myself or the country into the victor's circle.

If it is Obama, and I hope so, we will see what victory looks like, and how history is written.

Hillary has already endorsed McBush.

Hmmm, almost sounds appropriate, especially where Faux News is concerned, as well as so many other right-wing "news" outlets.
