Registering is no longer done and hasn't been since the 70's. Obama wasn't 18 in the 70's

To my thinking, getting rid of the draft was a bad thing for American Society. The draft should be brought back, maybe a modified draft where you serve two years minimum but it doesn't have to be military, you can select to go into Peace-Corps or some kind of U.S. Service. And for doing this service you are guaranteed two years of college free. That would give young people in America a boot up to get on their way to education.
I was drafted, served my time and have to say, the service set me on the right track. Before going in I was headed for trouble, but they taught me to live with people and how to be part of a team.

I won't happen though, because i really believe the Government is afraid of an Educated America. An America full of thinkers would cripple the government for one thing and also take a big chunk out of the Evangelical Right. The dumber the population, the more easy to control them.

A conversation I had Friday with a repuglican "aquaintance" while picking up lunch at a diner.

Me-
Hey man, doin ok, how are you doin? And for the record, I'm registered unaffiliated."

At this point, he smirked and walked away, before I could reply.
