BREAKING: Geraldine Ferraro Stepping Down From Clinton Campaign
By Nicole Belle Tuesday Mar 11, 2008 5:32pmCNN has released her letter of resignation:
Dear Hillary –
I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign.
The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you.
I won't let that happen.
Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do to make this a better world for my children and grandchildren.
You have my deep admiration and respect.
Gerry
Given that Ferraro was defiantly unapologetic for her remarks and even pushed back against those who found her statements objectionable as committing reverse racism (see her appearance on Good Morning America below)...
...it's not surprising that she is wrapping herself in the mantle of martyrdom and falling on the sword of her own making instead of acknowledging the errors of her statement. Rev. Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite:
I think of all the ways this comment is offensive and I’m having a hard time choosing between “staggering ignorance of U.S. history and current culture” and the insightful Catholic theological category for human sin, “willful ignorance.” I lean toward the sin concept, because I believe this is a sinful statement on a number of key levels. But I’m not going to ignore historical and cultural ignorance either, as I believe it is the way forward for the country beyond the Ferraros and their monovision.
The New York Times has reported the Justice Department statistic that “an estimated 12 percent of African-American men ages 20-34 are in jail or prison…The proportion of young black men who are incarcerated has been rising in recent years, and this is the highest rate every measured.” Just for comparison, note that 1.6 percent of white men in the same age group are incarcerated.
So, let’s see, to follow Ms.Ferraro’s logic, the other 88% of African American men are being promoted to high public office? Facts dictate otherwise. There are more African American men now in prison than in college and the employment rate for African American men has dropped to just over 50%. It’s nigh on to impossible to get a job in this economy anyway, let alone when you have a prison record. Incarceration rates, unemployment and poverty are linked.
The reason I believe this statement by Ms. Ferraro is an example of the sin of “willful ignorance” is that a person would have to will themselves to actively exclude evidence fully available in every paper, blog, and 24-hour newscycle to come to the conclusion that it’s a “lucky” break for Senator Obama that he was not born a white man.

talk about a victim mentality
she is the one who opened her mouth and not only demeaned the obama campaign, but demeaned everyone who has voted for him
Buh-bye!
The Hillary campaign is scraping the bottom of the barrel if all they can do is make racist smears.
How much lower can they go?
So she didn't so much as apologize to Barack, black people, and the public for her comments, but she apologized to Clinton for "hurting" her campaign. What a POS!
Cooler heads have prevailed. Now, on to the next handfull of mud!
watched the interview again
what a fuckin nit
In other words,
"Bye Hillary *wink*, mission accomplished."
With Richardson, Dodd, and Biden on the dais; had Obama been white would he have been there. If he had been a woman would he have been there?
That's one more Republican trait, pretending that your offenses against another make you the victim.
HRC still hasn't come out and condemned the statements, choosing instead totriangulate her way to a quasi-statement of it being "regrettable". wow, that was certainly definitive.
With every passing day, Clinton is looking more and more like a GOPer. Since she likes McCain so much, maybe she can get a slot on his ticket.
LOLZ the democrats have finally found the Rovian Weapon - i.e. Politics of Personal Destruction - and they happily begin pointing it at each other!
Yet another woman scorned and punished by the sexist media.. What is the world coming to? Will we never see a woman's right to free speech respected? .. What is this, Afghanistan under Taliban? Why should they stifle her right to free speech? I mean how do the BO people sleep at night, knowing that rich, white old relics like Gerry cant express their views only because they are women..
I think the HRC campaign will love to play the victim in a controversy of their own making ... I think we will see a paraphrasing of my statements above all over Penn in the next 4 weeks. This will further polarize the vote with Whites turning out and voting for HRC.
BTW, now that NY will have a blind-black gov., maybe Gerry should attack him next "Blind black men have been getting a free ride for too long.."
Anyway, Hill's anitcs are getting funnier by the day. This is a truely wonderful opportunity to weed out the feminists that are really interested in equal rights for all and the femistapo that is only in it for themselves...
To all of you Hill supporters out there who say they will be too bitter to vote for Obama and instead go for a complete polar opposite being the Republican John McCain, I'll quote John Stewart and just say: #$%@ YOU!
I think they're trying to avoid the special comment that Olbermann was going to give this evening.
But that is speculation on my part.
What took HRC so long? Why would she wait as long as Bush did to axe Gonzalez?
She is VERY LUCKY that Spitzer is still on top of the news cycle. But she's a idiot for letting this play out over three days (the paper will run her resignation and Obama's response tomorrow) when she could've killed it in one.
If this is a reflection of how she intends to run the country.....God save us!
Again, this is EXACTLY why Hillary will not win.
We're all sick and tired of the socalled Baby Boomers. They're all F'd it up and they wanna try and hold on and fix it. Ferraro is a prime example of all of these old ex-hippies desperately trying to hold on to what little power they have left.
Out of context? Gimme a break. We know EXACTLY what you meant and EXACTLY what you were talking about Ma'am.
Good bye and good riddance.
[Hey you young whippersnapper, this site is run and administered by babyboomers. And Ferraro is old enough to be our mom. By the Summer of Love, she was past 30-not to be trusted by hippies-Sitemonitor]
Good riddance.
Obama got where he is in politics because of intelligence, charisma and sheer talent. Nothing more, nothing less.
Geraldine is just another failed political dinosaur who needs to go the way of the dodo. Obama is the future.
Hillary will be joining her soon when she heads out to pasture.
Geraldine makes me wonder if I should have voted for Mondale in '84.
may i paraphrase what ferraro just said?
"look at everything i have done for the darkies, and they have the gall to attack me?"
"So, let’s see, to follow Ms.Ferraro’s logic"
Alas, if she only had followed Ferraro's logic instead of projecting her own...
Didn't Elizabeth Edwards say something similar? I do not agree with everything Ferraro said, but if you hear the question, she was opining on a valid point. Mississippi voted along racial lines yesterday. And everyday on CNN they talk about the AA vote as if it is a given to Obama. In the beginning of the campaign, many blacks did not think Obama was black enough. This woman was attacked and stifled and we call ourselves a democracy? I think this will backfire on Obama. She is going to get some sympathy because it appears the Obama people cannot take criticism without pulling the race card.
good riddance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zytron @ 17:
LOL!
Sure he did...
Well how ya like that. Second public lynching in two days.
I Am A Banana @ 16:
Oh, yeah....Its all us "Boomers" . Your in-depth "analysis" is as ridiculous and narrow-minded as her comments.
"EXACTLY".
Try again, Savior in Training.
[I had to slip my 2 cents in-Sitemonitor]
Crikey. This is getting worse by the day. How about this: Hillary can't win, it's selfish for her to stay in the race, and it's time she dropped out for the sake of living creatures everywhere. Because the longer this goes on the unthinkable becomes more possible: Losing to the Republicans in November.
It's same argument they use against that Nader guy, after all....

C. Montgomery Burns @ 18:
I've been having the exact same thought.
[Deleted-Sitemonitor]
grand Marnier @ 21:
I don't follow your logic. Are you saying that because we live in a democracy (we really don't, but I know what you mean) that people are immune from criticism for what they say?
Perhaps when looking at the American people as a whole, but certainly not from Democrats.
And now she is acting like the Joan of Arc of the feminist movement by taking on people of color and not just men?
She's a idiot! As long as Hillary doesn't denounce and reject her and her views, she will still be attached to Hillary even if she's not working directly for her!
If the Democratic party doesn't bring this thing to a close within the next 10 days, I'm be shocked and assume that they're embracing defeat in the fall.
grand Marnier @ 21:
No what she said was that we have fought very hard in this country to ensure that race, religion or gender doesn't get in the way of your talents and your potential and your message. In other words you are judged by the content of your character. Hence John should be judged only by his message not by his 'assumed' status of power as a white man. And I totally agree with El on that one.
My respect for her quadrupled that day, provided she really believes in what she says (and so far she hasnt done/said anything that indicates otherwise).
Zytron @ 17:
God...That's depressing.
I'm so saddened by Ms. Ferraro's descent into madness. Once as a young man, I had nothing but the deepest respect for this woman. She should know how hard it is for someone who isn't a white male how hard it is to get a fair shake. But this is absolutely unacceptable, and from a fellow Democrat, too!
Good bye and good riddance, you crazy old woman.
Oh Geraldine you has been, just look at all the sucessful blacks in america..... she is right!!! black men in America have it easy on the inside of jail.... plenty of drugs, gay sex, no books to wok out their minds only there bodies, creating more sucessfull super predators.... also dont forget on the outside they have the privledge of going to that other lock up called public schools that your liberal kind have destroyed via teacher unions (I am talking about LA!!!) where kids can fight with latinos, they dont get a decent education.... also if Obama was a white man he would have the nomination wrapped up weeks ago... kitchen sink strategy, more like the kitchen sink, the toilet and the whole plumbing.... hillary go back to arkansas and fix your life first....
Darrel@356 Explain Idaho, asshole.
Yes, Hillary is a pig and I'm an evil misogynist!!! Ha ha ha ha! I hate all women.... No wait, actually I hate all the people who assume that they're entitled (men and women, although I'll hold the door for guys more often than women and you straight boys never even notice; the "entitled" women do, LOL) and I also despise Hillary for assuming she is some kind of a shoe-in. Is that a misogynist?? Well, maybe in a gay kind of way.
A lot of posts say that this is the Obama campaign lashing out. It's not. It's people lashing out against people who want to USE racism. Ferraro (I'm Italian in case you need to get on her level and need enlightenment) used racism. And now according to her "resignation" letter she can use it for the Clinton campaign with out being "official". It's like those old spy movies where they send someone out to do the hit but if the spy is caught no one will acknowledge that they have any ties to the sender.
I can't beleive that this is the Democratic Party. Rush says that we are racist and Farraro has validated Rush. Clinton needed to lead here to rebut him but she did not stand up and defend the party. Instead she made it a lot the ugly Republican.

All of his broadcasts have turned in to a Hillary bash fest from top to bottom. I have given up on him. He has the same old crew on who all are perfectly in line with him. Then he gives them softballs all in favor of Obama. It's pathetic. Why not have a dissenter on once just to get a different opinion? It's become unwatchable. What a shame.

Nice comments; exactly what I'm talking about. Where does all the anger come from? You need to give it a rest.........
Want to know the truth? I hate to say it, but I don't think Obama is electable. Forget what the polls say. When push comes to shove; and it comes time to pull that lever; America is not going to elect a black president. Just look at the attention Ferraro's comments received?
It's sad.......very sad. But I fear that it's true.
Hello President McCain!

What will happen to all of the ill will that Obama supporters show now towards anyone who dares disagree with them? What happened to free speech? Just because you don't agree with me, please don't accuse me of self-indulgence, not supporting the plight of young people looking for jobs, or needing healthcare. We grew up in turbulent times with parents who worked 60 hours a week and had student loans. Our parents didn't even finish high school because of the depression and scrimped and saved their whole lives to give us a chance. Why don't you talk to us rather than attack us? The race will be over in November. The damage done by all of this namecalling will linger.

No need to read past this, you contradict yourself. You admit Geraldine's comment is true when you basically restate it: "the fact that Obama is black adds yet another reason to vote for him." Then you say she is so far off base. Why? Because she didn't word it as smoothly as you did? She didn't put the right spin on it? Not enough sugar? Spare me.
Obama's blackness has helped him in this election. Hillary's woman-ness has helped her. These comments are obvious 100% true and you admit it. Everyone with a pulse knows it. So why all the fake outrage that it is so unacceptable to say something that is so obviously true? It's really quite ridiculous. Demo's should be embarrassed with this entire absurd waste of time. Republicans can rejoice.
And good for Geraldine for standing up to the lemmings who are too lazy to actually read and understand the context and question she was responding to.
Darrel.
For sale cheap. Ex. Demo Veep candidate. Must go. Perfect match for Joe Liebermann owner. Make offer.
Obama is cleaning up with the black vote because he is black.
Only since S.C. after Bill offended everyone. You need to go back and look at the polls. Hillary led among blacks 60-40 throughout 2007. This is historical fact, not wishful thinking. I was arguing with blacks I know as late as January that they should support Obama, as I do. They disagreed. They cited the Tom Bradley effect, and wouldn't budge. And in my caucus, they voted for Clinton. Then SC came along and that changed their minds. Bill Clinton was a god to them.
Cleo,
What will happen to all of the ill will that Obama supporters show now towards anyone who dares disagree with them?
Have you trotted over to Huffington Post lately and seen the Clinton supporter comments? Forget that their battle-cry is victimhood. Forget that the back of their palms are glued to their foreheads. Read the tripe, the vitriol, the hideousness.
JHR@365 See, that's what I'm talking about. I absolutely don't mind you stating that Obama isn't electable: A legitimate prognosis. But to criticize a black person for standing up against race hate knowing we have a serious historical pathology that automatically makes us fight that evil sickness with all that we have, is just fucking ignorant.
Hareli @ 371:
Obama is cleaning up with the black vote because he is black.

He didn't offend me. That fake outrage was a farce to. Ask Jessie Jackson. Bill simply said that JJ won the state. 100% true, mundane and boring. If Obama and his supporters get ruffled over a comment like that then they should get out of politics.

D.
Geraldine,
We are glad you were not elected many years ago with your expressed attitude. And to think that I was excited and supportive of you then. What you said was highly offensive. You need to look at yourself and not the political aspect of your comments trying to twist them to absolve you.

Phil @ 338:
First off....... Im no troll....... Im voting for the Dem candidate no matter who she is *wink*
second....... Im sure that him being black might cost him votes...... but not as many votes that he will get for being black (90% this past election)...... Im not the one that talks about how the black votes go his way.... the press is.
third......Obama is a great candidate no matter what his color is....... my point is..... his color is not hurting him at all during THIS campaign
Im sure that Obama supporters want to call me a racist because Im talking about race..... but that is insane too........ the bottom line is HE IS BLACK...... that isnt a racist comment....... that is a proven fact.
Darrel @ 356:
That Ferraro made virtually the same comment 20 years ago about the only other black candidate to win a Democratic Presidential primary state race, means in her mind that any black man who gets in the race for president and wins, ONLY WON BECAUSE THEY WERE BLACK. It was not a mistake, this is racism pure and simple.
That Clinton has let this hit stages two, three and four .... well it shows a little intent. Subtlety using racial prejudices against a black man in a Pennsylvania Democratic primary race gives a lot of poor white hill folks who need someone to blame, someone to vote against. Smart, nasty and divisive but smart in the short run.
In the long run I think that the Ferraro distraction should shock enough super delegates that they will switch to Obama and send a message.
gloria @ 82:
One is sorely tempted to suggest that perhaps poor Geraldine was just paraphrasing the classic line from Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles":
"The Senator from Illinois is a _______________! The Senator from Illinois is a _______________!"
But I'm sure that couldn't have possibly been her intent. I think there are other lines from that film that probably apply much better, but I'll leave that up to my intrepid readers.
Mike Mid City @ 377:

Oh, now we have someone with the ability to not only make up racism as needed, they can also mind read it as well.
Ferraro pointed out that just as she benefited from the novelty of being a woman when she was chosen for the VP slot, Obama has benefited by the novelty of being a black man running for president. Any racism is purely in your head and is being hyped by a media too lazy, and a populace too stupid to learn the nuance in her truthful statments.
D.

what the fuck did she do before bill entered the wh???

maybe his race got him noticed, but you dont continue a national campaign on race alone
No the medias adoration did it. Same with McCain same with Hillary at first around 2005. I blame the media, pure and simple, If the media actually reported the issues and the facts it wouldn't matter, because we'd have sound info to make up our minds instead we get love-fest or a bash-fest, sometimes both in one day.
If HRC wins the nomination, she can count me out, because i will never vote for her.
Darrel @ 380:
Whatever punk.
There is no nuance in her statement. She's a racist!!! And by association, so is Hillary.
In 1963 Hillary Clinton was a Republican.
Hillary Clinton was a staunch supporter of Republican senator Barry Goldwater, well known segregationist and one of the most vocal senators adamantly against the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
“…she described herself in her memoirs as ‘an active Young Republican’ and ‘a Goldwater girl, right down to my cowgirl outfit.’
Hillary voted for Bush’s war
Hillary voted for Bush’s Patriot Act
Hillary voted to re-authorize Bush’s Patriot Act.
She is one of the most outspoken critics of the United Nations along with neo-cons like John Bolton.
Hillary voted NO to ban land mines (which kills and maims children long after a war is over)
Hillary voted against the amendment restricting US exports of cluster bombs to countries that use them to bomb civilian populations.
Hillary opposes the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which gives the federal government and the States the right to ignore same sex marriages (signed by President Bill Clinton).
Hillary could not be bothered to read the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) before casting her pro-Iraq war vote.
Hillary is one of the most prominent critics of the International Court of Justice’s ruling that the Fourth Geneva Conventions on the Laws of War is legally binding on all signatory nations.
Hillary supported Israel’s massive bombing of Lebanon which killed over 1000 civilians half of whom were children.
Hillary Clinton voted to support a resolution declaring Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an elite part of the Iranian military, a foreign terrorist group supporting Bush’s desire to bomb Iran.
Hillary Clinton is a Bush enabler!!!
What steams me up about the comments is not so much the re-surfaced appearance of race in a campaign conversation... More the fact that it is another way in which Hillary (by Hillary, in this case, I mean, her Rove-ish second-hand operatives) is "skillfully" boiling down the purposes of Barack's campign with whichever media-friendly conveyance is best suited.
They would say anything depending on what the scenario was if it meant vanquishing enemies. Howard Dean was running just the same type of campaign which was being taken very seriously by broad segments of America in 2004. What would the tactless insinuation have been in 2008 if it was Howard Dean doing what Obama's doing now? Who knows? But the fact is, whether DLC'ers care or not, increased political passion needs to be evident in a campaign that wants to be popular with the people now. It's more offensive that these remarks willfully seek to miss the point in order to push people's easiest subconscious buttons.
Hmmm OK, I've heard her full defense and I’m still not seeing an explanation that makes her comments taken out of context sound any better.
How fitting that in her attempt to belittle Obama, Gerri exposed what far too few have known for far too long - that Geraldine Ferraro never deserved the adulation she received. Poetic justice that in attempting to smear Obama as undeserving of his position, Ferraro let the world in on her secret - that she is now and has always been nothing more than another low-budget, run of the mill racist Archie Bunker style pol from Queens. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bitter old shrew.
What Ferraro said was the equivalent of one of the Obama people saying Clinton would not be where she is if it were not for the Hispanic ( California and Texas ) vote . Clearly it was a ploy to make race an issue and create resentment ,hoping it would get Clinton more white votes since they are not attracting many of the black vote anyway. HRC and her pack of wolves are so desperate now that will do and say anything to salvage their campaign and win and if that means tearing apart their own party so be it. She is a corporate and lobbyist loving fraud . The only crisis management experience she has had is the Bill and Monica affair . This kitchen sink garbage they are throwing at Obama only shows Billary's true character . There is a reason Limbaugh has been instructing his band of mental midgets to get out and vote for Clinton , she is the weaker candidate by almost all polls and McCain would stand a good chance of beating her , not so Obama .
When Obama becomes president, EVERYTHING that comes out of the mouth of any white person is going to be considered racist. You think black folks are sensitive now about what white people say, just you wait. The long awaited race war in just around the corner. In the long run, white folks are not going to accept Obama as president and black folk are not going to accept white folks not accepting Obama as president.
I don't accept Obama as a candidate because he just popped up out of nowhere. He happens to have brown skin and pretty white teeth, you may have noticed. Who is this guy who comes out of nowhere to run for president? How many black or white people even bother to ask about who he is or where he came from.
In the long run, black folks aren't going to be so happy with Obama either, but they'll blame white folks for civil war they start over a racist statement they accuse a white person of making. It's possible that if blacks get wound up enough with a racist statement that they'll start a big street fight and turn things upside down. Wouldn't that be reason enough for the military to step in to round up a bunch of folks and throw them into those big empty prison systems built throughout the country. Warning! They will shot to kill.
Go ahead. Be sensitive about racist statements made by white people. It's a trap and if you step into it, it is by choice.
Charles Manson could not have set this thing up better. So let the civil war begin, but there will be no best man to win this one.
Dear, Dear Darrell:
Thanks for the compliment. But in your eagerness to dismiss any point I'm trying to make, you've started playing dumb. You may be the one who's choosing to ignore the context:
a) as you probably know, Senator Obama is easily as qualified as Senator Clinton.
b) as you also know, Ferraro is an experienced, seasoned political player who is very much in control of her own words and knows better than this
c) Ferraro not only summarily negates any hard-won experience Obama has with a bitchy flick of her patrician wrist, but flatly states on multiple occasions that his success is attributable to some inexplicable free ride he has been getting because of the color of his skin.
It's hardly a matter of her failure to "state it smoothly", or give it "enough sugar" as you put it.
It's a matter of making an absurd, overtly racially incendiary remark to score cheap political points.
It's a matter of making race, gender, birth name -- anything that might excite the lizard-brain of bigotry that is so easily roused in this world -- it's the matter of any politician choosing to make race an issue in an age when any average person on the street should be above that. And it's also a matter of Clinton -- who cashes in on the gender card as often as possible -- refusing to denounce her supporter in the same terms she demands of Obama.
You know it and I know it -- stirring this ugly pot of racism makes the whole place stink.
withowlseyewatch , you are a genious , hot damn ! Say , was old Chester at the KKK meeting last Monday ?
Shucks withowlseyewatch , ah mispelt that werd genius agin .
JHR @ 365:
You must be over 25 years old.
Her words come straight from the Dick Durbin school of apologies. "I'm sorry you are offended."
No, Geraldine, you are hurting Hillary's campaign because of the stupid things you said.
As an Obama supporter, can't say I'm sorry to see the Hillary camp self-destructing.
How was she able to type with her foot in her mouth?
grand Marnier @ 21:
Hill'O is the one that keeps bringing the race card. And she isn't doing it with tract or validity, she's doing it because she's desperate. So Obama got this far because he's black? I guess that explains the success of President Jesse Jackson and Vice President Al Sharpton. That's like saying Colin Powell got the job because he was black...No! He was a talented military man that served his country proudly and did it pretty well until 2003.
The Old Guard goes out kicking and screaming.
Swishbuckler is just a racist troll. Ignore it.
Again, the HRC team gives us an example of how NOT To handle a situation successfully.
The mudslinging won't work. I hope Obama continues to stay above the muck and not address this further. She's gone, as she should be. But Hillary will take the hit from Progressives who realize She should have taken a firmer hand with Ferraro's racist tirade.
James @ 34:
Yip. It's the White Peoples Fault. They get all the breaks in life.
farraro was specking of OBAMA's experience not blacks in general. to site that his luck and accepetance for blacks is representative to what many other blacks experience is unacceptable. there are some blacks who whites find accepetable. (how many times have i been told ...well michelle your different)...once they find you acceptable they appreciate the ability to work with you to feel better about themselves and enjoy you as the wonderful person you are regardless of race. many of them will be the first to say the ole line...you know i'm not racist cuz i have black friends. whites here are going off track and are starting to insult blacks without realizing it. many in the country wish to end racism on some level. hence OBAMA, who is an "acceptable" black is benefitting from his race. he is also reasonably accomplished and well spoken. IMHO he is lite on the experience side in my book and i look forward to him cutting down a bit on his ambition and doing the real work that shows me who he really is on issues over the next 8 years. after that, i think he could be well qualified to be elected president.
Okay okay. Madame Ferraro can find herself an engorged pillar of flesh upon which to inhale with much force and abandon until she has taken upon a hue close to that of the noble blueberry, one of my favorite fruits. How's that?
Enough of these phoney trustfund feminists. Since when was being a feminist the same as being a victim? Oh now I remember, since Hillary cried and and it appeared to work. Now who is drinking their own bathwater again?
Seriously, someone needs to put an end to this nonsense.
Can't the super delegates just get together and unilaterally flip their support, based on what they already know? And maybe save the party while they're at it?
Like i said I think they're trying to avoid the wrath of Olbermann.

What calculated bullshit this is. She's claiming "martyrdom" rather than genuinely apologizing for her remarks. See what that evil Barack did to me? I think it's meant to "energize" feminists to support Hillary.

That's a lie some people (mostly rightists) fed you, and you bought it. Damn, first we were racist for not supporting him in large numbers, and now we're racist for supporting him in large numbers.
For the good of the party, Hillary needs to bow graciously for the good of the Democratic Party.
The problem JDF and Hillary Clinton have is they are using race to win votes from whites and ignoring the issues here. Do you really want these people in office???
Now that a black man is winning the race for president some whites are trying to say its just because hes black. HELLO! White people comprise the majority of the voting block and have most of the power in this country!!!
Obama has won states that are over 90 percent white. How do you explain this if it is just because he is black? Would it make a difference if he was white or this was 1960 and this was JFK???

If Obama has so much support from the black race, why can't he ontrol them. Ferrar received some of the most vile emails ever received from Obama supporters. This does not speak well of Obama and the permissivness he condones from his supporters. If he is so powerful, he should ask bloggers and haters to stop.
I Am A Banana @ 55:
You know, Banana, you could glean some insight from this Geraldine Ferraro controversy, and that is, if you say something really dumb, but then you get a second chance to correct your error, make the most of it. Do not "stand by your statement" when it's ill-informed to the point of being asinine. It makes you look stubborn *and* ignorant.
Yes, your original statement that Geraldine Ferraro is an "ex-hippie" and a "baby boomer" speaks for itself. Namely, you clearly have no idea wtf you're talking about.
Gerraldine freakin Ferraro was born in 1935, Banana. Do you know what the term "baby boomer" refers to? The sharp spike in the population that occurred in the years after World War II, which I assume you know ended in 1945.
Here, read this and educate yourself:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_boomer
There's some debate as to what year marks the outside border of the Baby Boomer Generation, but nobody and I mean nobody considers a person born in 1935 (which for example was the year Elvis Presley was born) to be a goddamn Baby Boomer.
Secondly, Ferraro went to law school in the late 1950's and graduated in 1960, (when Dwight Eisenhower was still President) upon which she set up a legal practice in Queens. I think we can safely scratch her off the list of those who hitchhiked out to the Haight Ashbury seven years later to smoke pot, drop acid and listen to the Jefferson Airplane at the Fillmore.
Seriously, calling her an "ex-hippie" is ludicrous. It's like claiming Clarence Thomas was a punk rocker.
It's OK not to know this stuff, but if you get called on your error, what does it serve you to stick to your guns?

You are an ignorant racist. As a fellow white person I detest you. Control the black race???? Why cant the whites control their own then? Answer that. Why dont you just call them whats really on your mind: mindless N**** slaves, eh massa...
And so what if she recieved a few lude emails? Barack and other black activists recieve hate mail all the time! It serves her right anyway for trying to put this kind of hate into the mainstream.
He should tell people to not use free speach against this pap? Get a grip! JDF and HRC are the haters that started this, not Obama.
This is typical fascist right wing garbage. If you dont like what they say shut up and dont say anything yourself.
"Hillary Clinton would not be in the presidential race if her husband wasn't banging cocktail waitresses two at a time"
_Geraldine Ferraro
im tired of all of your crap about the geraldine ferraro thing...... here is truth
BARACK OBAMA WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ASKED TO GIVE THE KEYNOTE SPEECH FOR KERRY UNLESS HE WERE BLACK....KERRY THOUGHT THAT WOULD BENEFIT HIM!!!!!! HE WOULD NOT BE WHERE HE IS IF HE WERE NOT A FULLY ASSIMILATED MAN WHO HAPPENS TO HAVE BLACK SKIN AT THIS TIME WHEN OUR COUNTRY WOULD LOVE TO GET PAST THE WHOLE 300 YEARS OF OPRESSION AND LEGACY OF HUMAN SLAVERY THING.
HILLARY CLINTON WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN WHERE SHE IS IF HER HUSBAND HADNT BLOWN A LOAD ON AN INTERN'S FACE AND GOTTEN CAUGHT. SHE SHOWED HER METAL... WAS A SYMPATHETIC FIGURE AND WON A SENATE SEAT.
JOHN MCCAIN.... IF HE HADNT BEEN SHOT DOWN AND KEPT IN CAPTIVITY AND TORTURED HIM.... WOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN CHOSEN BY ANYONE TO RUN FOR GOVERNMENT.... THEY USED HIS WAR HERO STATUS TO VAULT THEMSELVES..... BUT ITS NOT ANY REAL QUALIFICATION FOR FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE.....
JOHN MCCAIN WOULD BE A RETIRED OLD ASSHOLE LIVING ON A HOUSEBOAT IN ARIZONA, COLLECTING A RETIREMENT CHECK, SPOUTING TO HIS BEER SWILLING, RIGHT WING, VETERAN FRIENDS WHAT HE THINKS IS WRONG WITH THE COUNTRY..
ALL OF THEM ARE THERE BY PERSONAL LIFE THINGS DRAGGING THEM INTO LIMELIGHT. BY BENEFIT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING USED THEM TO STAND UPON....... KERRY FOR OBAMA... BILL CLINTON FOR HILLARY.... AND RONALD REAGAN FOR JOHN MCCAIN.........
THEY ALL WERETOKENS being used by the man to bolster their own credibilty.... or garner votes.... and all are tainted thereby.
and thats the motherfucking truth about all of them...
[16 I Am A Banana Says]: Again, this is EXACTLY why Hillary will not win.
We’re all sick and tired of the socalled Baby Boomers. They’re all F’d it up and they wanna try and hold on and fix it.

Good for her.
Ed-hussein-gay-agenda-win Hussein @ 407:
im sorry... it was a copy paste of a letter i just wrote to all of the networks. im not a wingnut or any of those derisive things you suggested. i was very angry at the time because joe scarborough and john riddley kept saying that mrs ferraro was saying that he was "lucky because he was black" and in my frustration with their misquoting, i whipped off a hastily hostile letter to all news departments to give them some sense of reality about all of the candidates being ..... tokens...
sorry you got that first impression.... but i get kind of angry sometimes and it comes out in my discourse.
I've re-read what Geraldine said about Jesse Jackson and the current embroglio proves her right.
Not only do reporters ask soft ball questions of such candidates to avoid the charge of racism, no one can even comment or complain of such preferential treatment.
That's not to say they didn't deserve to get where they were
But it is demeaning to both candidates and the reporters.
There's been hardly a peep from the media that Hillary has consistently won most of the debates, but for one slip-up.
It's all about either Obama or the current Hillary "scandal" du jour.
Although McCain is no longer the straight talker, if he maintains that image, voters will inevitably prefer the "straight talker" to people who are too nervous to speak, too quick to take umbrage.

Hillary and her dark forces are causing the American people to dance with the devil they know (republican). Does this woman have any recognizable iota of dignity? Ferraro needs to go back into seclusion. Too old. Too nasty.
I run a blog that is aimed at the urban crowd and as a black man I'd like to go on record saying I don't think Geraldine Ferraro is racist at all. At least not in the way we generally think of a racist. She see Barack being black as an advantage and not a disadvatage. In a way she is right. His race does get him noticed but in all honesty it is not going to help him get elected at all. One of the other writers over at Highbrid Nation says Geraldine Ferraro is evil not racist, lol. He might not be too far off.
Mike Belgrove @ 414:
Mike - Thanks for your input. I am not in favor of racism - in fact, racists comments were not tolerated during my growing up years. So many people are spinning the quote from Geraldine that I am shocked and disappointed. She is not a racist, and Hillary knows that. I don't think Gerry is evil, outspoken maybe, but will never intentionally hurt another. We all say things that are taken the wrong way and what Geraldine said was clearly taken out of context.
Hillary and Bill Clinton have made a significant issue about how the press is treating Hillary unfairly in their hyper-critical reporting on her and their “softball” reporting on Barak Obama. Hillary maintains she has been fully investigated by the media and Barak hasn’t! As the Tony Rezko trial begins in Chicago, Clinton and her surrogates are linking Obama to Rezko and the media is speculating about whether Obama will be called to testify as a witness in the case. Obama has always admitted he received $85,000 in contributions from Rezko which Obama has now donated to charity rather than keep. Yet the civil fraud trial of Bill Clinton for defrauduing Hillary’s largest donor in 2000 into giving her campaign more than $1.2 million, pending in Los Angeles courts since 2003, is now preparing for a November, 2008 trial. The discovery that is now proceeding after a February 21 hearing, and the pending trial, have NEVER been announced by the mainstream media. Hillary was able to extricate herself as a co-defendant in the case in January, 2008 after years of appeals to be protected by the First Amendment from tort claims arising out of federal campaign solicitations she made. Her abuse of the intent of California’s anti-SLAPP law after the California Supreme Court refused to dismiss her from the case in 2004 is emblematic of her contempt for the Rule of Law. Hillary will be called as a witness in both discovery and the trial according to the trial court Judge who so-advised Hillary’s attorney David Kendall when he dismissed Hillary as a co-defendant in 2007. A subpoena is being prepared this month and will be served personally on Hillary, along with Chelsea, Pa Gov. Ed Rendell, Al Gore and other well known political and media figures. Yet the media has refused to report about this landmark civil fraud case- brought by Hillary’s biggest 2000 donor to her Senate race, regarding allegations that were corroborated by the Department of Justice in the criminal trial of Hillary’s finance director David Rosen in May, 2005. That indictment and trial was credited as resulting from the civil suit’s allegations by Peter Paul, the Hollywood dot com millionaire Bill Clinton convinced to donate more than $1.2 million (according to the DOJ prosecutors and the FBI) to Hillary’s Senate campaign as part of a post White House business deal with Bill. The media - except for World Net Daily- has also suspiciously refused to report on Hillary’s last FEC report regarding her 2000 Senate campaign, filed in January 30, 2006. In a secret settlement of an FEC complaint by the plaintiff in Paul v Clinton, Peter Paul, the FEC fined Hillary’s campaign $35,000 for hiding more than $720,000 in donations from Paul, and it required Hillary’s campaign to file a 4th amended FEC report. In that report Hillary and her campaign again hid Paul’s $1.2 million contribution to her campaign and falsely attributed $250,000 as being donated by Paul’s partner, Spider Man creator Stan Lee, who swore in a video taped deposition he never gave Hillary or her campaign any money. Lee did testify to trading $100,000 checks with Paul to make it appear he gave $100,000 to Hillary’s campaign (admission of a felony) but none of that has been reported by the “overly critical” media! Where is the outrage from Obama that the press is engaging in a double standard relating to his possible role in the Rezko trial and his refunding the $85,000 contributed to his campaign by Rezko- which Obama has always admitted taking. The media makes no mention of Hillary’s role as a witness in Bill’s fraud trial for defrauding Hillary’s largest donor- and Hillary’s refusal to refund the $1.2 million she illegally received from Paul, which she has denied taking from Paul ever since the Washington Post asked her about Paul and his felony convictions from the 1970’s before her first Senate election in 2000? Visit Hillcap.org for videos and info.
With the beautiful way HLC has handled this dust up, waiting days and not distancing herself, I don't know why black people vote for Obama. Is she trying some Rovian stratagy of peeling her base down to its core? Casting off the people that might not be loyal enough?
Mrs. Ferraro is so deeply racist that she can't even see it. That's why she is so sincerely outraged when she is questioned. I know one thing: a person who talks as she does has no business representing the inner circle of the Democratic party. The party is demeaned by having her represent it. She should be stripped of her status as a superdelegate. Mr. Dean, whom I have admired up to this point and for whom I worked in 2004, has some important calls to make, the sooner the better. Dismiss Ferraro as a superdelegate, and end the increasingly ridiculous and desperate Clinton campaign before it destroys the Democratic party.
"I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself..."
So she were speaking for Hillary before? interesting.
Once again a voice that dares speak the truth and criticize Obama has been silenced. I am a life long democrat who seeks a change in our nation's course via a Hillary Clinton Presidency. For, what can be said about an Obama campaign that creates an environment where the supporters claim that if she wins the nomination, they will boycott the general election and stay home?
Exactly…
To all the hating folks out there calling her "Old": This is just as offensive to us as racist slurs are to others. You hypocrites better watch out. We "Oldies" just so happen vote in large numbers and we do not appreciate your ageist remarks. Unreal.
"Jack" said:
... suuuuuure you are, Jack. Name one single individual who has been "silenced" as you put it, by the Obama campaign. You can't -- without lying. So spare us the histrionics, and quit trying to change the subject. This is a case of an experienced politician in a position of power in the Clinton campaign making overtly racist remarks again and again in the media. The only people "attacking" her are the mainstream media. Obamas' conduct in all of this has been completely above-the-fray.
But you're not really here to bring truth to the discussion, are you? Maybe you should go troll somewhere else. Like maybe one of those countries where people really do get "silenced". Might be educational for ya'.
Good point Jack. There are many who agree. As for, "canCanMan"...uhm. Oh, why bother responding to someone who calls themselves "canCanMan". Just keep writing in those bold letters..ya, that will get your raving, illiterate point across.
Why do republicans mascarade themselves as Obama supporters? Yikes. We get it. McCain vs. Obama, rebublicans win. But it's not over yet. We still have a chance to take back our country.
Don't be sad just 'cause you don't know how to use the little buttons on the top of the little box, Kathy! You can learn to do it, too, Kathy! Yes, you CAN!
Let's see - umm, name calling, playground insults, zero substance to back up your arguments ... How exactly is this supposed to prove your point?
You see, Kath', since you brought up literacy -- the people who are actually literate are usually the intelligent ones, so I add emphasis so people like you can make it through my post more easily. Think of it as a public service.
The rest of us already understand that you're just another Republican troll like Jack.
Thank you for making my point. Again.
canCanMan,
The only name Kathy called you was canCanMan. If you don't like canCanMan, then you can change it canCanMan. But whatever you name yourself canCanMan, you should probably get help for your hatred canCanMan. That belongs in the trashcan...canCanMan.
Comedy of the week, a Hussein Obama supporter calls someone else a racist. Yep he set in the pew for 17 years in the most racist church i've heard of in 67 years and didn't hear the sermons and didn't read the church bulletin. Guess he didn't know about the terrorism carried out by his friends or the criminal acts of one of his pardners. Didn't know his wife worked at the hospital he got a million dollars in pork and didn't know her salary shot up almost triple due to the 'free' money he provided. Payoff are hell when they catch up with you.
Tom are you one of the smart, you think, three year olds?
I @ 44:
The "partys" over no matter who gets in.
Ferraro is acting just like a Bushie -- falling on her sword, to be sure, but with as much dishonorable, disgraceful, infantile whining and puling as possible.
Just shut up, Geraldine, and go away. Don't go away mad. Just go away. You're publicly done. Nobody needs to hear what you have to say anymore.
Racist dung. And that goes for you too, Hillary.
If Obama had it his way, race would never have been an issue in this campaign. The Clinton goal from day one has been to inject race at every possible step. They want to tap into racism as much as they can.
Obama has done nothing to bait misogyny. Nothing. He's better than that. Clinton isn't.
How do these people sleep at night?
DiNO is the nicest label they bear.
farraro was speaking of OBAMA's experience not blacks in general. to site that his luck and accepetance for blacks is representative to what many other blacks experience is unacceptable. there are some blacks who whites find accepetable.
The woman was speaking from her own historic perspective and pointing out how the climate is so different now. I am from NY and I know she is not a racist. She is a kind, gentle and generous soul. It is clear that Obama the Uniter is quite divisive now and I predict this will backfire!
O.K., Geraldine. We'll give you a pass because you have cancer. But that's the only reason. Otherwise you'd deserve nothing but contempt and scorn for the dumbest and most inappropriate campaign statement ever, and that includes the crap that comes from political neophytes every four years.
This is hurting Hillary's campaign less than it's helping McCain's. Let's all pile on Hillary and then say "See? I told you so" when the shitstorm continues in January 2009. It's so satisfying to be right.

Why don't you troll somewhere else?
grand Marnier @ 21:
over 13 million people have voted for obama
where is the valid point??
the woman was attacked because she made an idiotic comment, and then backed it up with more idiotic comments
what would you say if someone from the obama campaign said something along the lines that the only thing hillary has going for her is the fact that she is a woman and fucked a president....then used voting stats to show thats true
myopic clinton supporters disgust me

Obamanians? Come on your the experts.
Grand Marnier... how on earth can you keep a straight face trying to spin this as Obama being divisive? She's the one that opened her idiotic mouth.
Every single time that race has been injected into this campaign it has been Clinton, not Obama. That isn't even arguable. She WANTS race as an issue, he doesn't. Duh.
"willful ignorance"...I've always defined that as sheer stupidity.
Geraldine=racist=Hillary
michelle bociurkiw @ 42:
I'm not going to comment on any of that as it's all experiential. However I'd like to ask something. If Obama's campaign manager said the same thing about Hillary because she's a female that we wouldn't be inundated with moral outrage? C'mon if it's not fair to play the sex card, don't play the race card. Obama never once mentioned her alligator tears. You know why? Because he is above that bull shit. Hillary has obviously obfuscated the issue to make race acceptable and sex unacceptable.
BTW I'm not misogynist, I'm married...
grand Marnier @ 52:
"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," she continued. "And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept." Ferraro does not buy the notion of Obama as the great reconciler.
"I was reading an article that said young Republicans are out there campaigning for Obama because they believe he's going to be able to put an end to partisanship," Ferraro said, clearly annoyed. "Dear God! Anyone that has worked in the Congress knows that for over 200 years this country has had partisanship - that's the way our country is."
what the fuck about the above comments dont you get????
she said this....no one put the words in her mouth
Mrs Ferrarro, you need to go back to Long Island and make some sauce for the crow that that in a the real world, you should eat.
that letter sounds like "im doing your dirty work, so ill resign so they cant tie me to you anymore."
It's hilarious, the issue of "Hillah or Bama" and all the contrived theater associated with the non-choice.

One less whiney bigot officially tied to the Clinton campaign.
"I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign.
The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you.
I won’t let that happen. "
Well, if that aint disgusting, I dont know what is, everytime she opens her hole something nasty flies out. She needs to shut her hole. I'm only wondering at this point what depth the Clinton campaign is willing to sink to.
What a nasty person. Suddenly she's the victim? Are you kidding?
I'm just a regular guy from MA. I don't consider myself to be any type of zealot or hard core supporter of any one, so, I don't want any one thinking I'm just another Obama surrogate. However, I am a registered democrat, and I have to say that nothing that Hillary has done makes me think "That's why I'm a democrat!" In fact, everything she has done is what I hate about politics. It's people like Clinton and her campaign that make me qualify the statement of, "I'm a registered democrat" with a "But not a Hillary supporter." It sucks. I should be rooting against the republicans, instead I find myself feeling all kinds of hostility towrds her and her supporters and surrogates. Talk about dividing against each other and fighting amongst ourselves! Whoo! Bums me out
Ferraro was congresswoman from the New York 9th, which is a gerrymandered white "ethnic" NYC district that includes the infamous Howard Beach. I'm sure that when she looks at Obama her reaction is to call out the neighborhood teens and tell them to bring their baseball bats.
Well be back to Jerry Springer's Presidential Campaign 08 after a word from our sponsor.

Stereotypically the Liberal Democrat party represents the African Americans and the Women (groups that have been marginalized). If you look at her comments at face value without any emotional baggage attached you will find her observations to be valid.
Mr. Obama was courted by members of the Democratic party more than two years ago as a potential Presidential contender due to his youth, personality, presence and the "perceived" novelty of his race. This is the simplest explanation for his current situation due to his lack of experience. If you do the least bit of reading you will find the comparison to JFK to be completely unfounded.
just another example of the "kitchen sink" Mind F*** from the clinton camp. Do they think people aren't smart enough to see through this garbage?
