Looks like Wall Street is giving up those gains from the Eliot Spitzer ouster celebration party.
March 13 (Bloomberg) -- New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned yesterday amid allegations that he patronized prostitutes, is now in a legal fight to avoid criminal charges.
Spitzer was leaning too hard on Wall Street. Anyone who gets in their way (the moneymen and neocons) or becomes too much of a problem gets removed.

It sure does and on the economic side, gold has just hit $1000 an ounce. oil remains at $110 a barrel and the dollar has tumbled to a low of 71.90 on the dollar index.

On Good Morning America, their “business” ANALyst was trying to explain the Fed’s move yesterday to the good common folk in Iowa and Texas.
She explained that the Fed was trying to improve the tightening credit market for CONSUMERS by agreeing to exchange Treasuries for mortgage paper from BANKS.
Speaking of the housing authority. Riot, anyone?

You put people in a life survival state and you will be very surprised to see how quickly the thin veneer of civilization disappears.
Can anyone name any department in the Chimpy regime that hasn't been scandal ridden the past seven + years?
L.A. Confidential @ 6:
Indeed.
Iraqi Girl Slain By U.S. Troops
In Iraq, a ten-year old girl died Thursday after U.S. soldiers shot her north of Baghdad. The Pentagon says the soldiers intended to fire a warning shot at a woman who was signaling someone.
I am still winded from the latest from Campaign 2008. I need a vacation.
How about "The Disgrace That is Bush"?!!!
QuestionGirl @ 5:
I recently rehabbed a two family. It took the building inspector 3 weeks to grant my occupancy permit to move in. That's after they inspected every bit of it and signed off. If we weren't fortunate enough to be living with our inlaws, we would have been out on the street while they pushed paper.
I can totally understand people's anger at government.
Compared to this, Eliot Spitzer look like a boyscout.

I disagree. If the Rapture (second coming, monkey years, a taste of jesus...depending on how you look at it) happens, we can get a lot of these pesky Christians that are causing so much trouble in this country.
I feel sorry for all the people who borrowed too much money or ran up credit card debt trying to live like the millionaires they see on TV.

Dollar Falls to 12-Year Low of 100 Yen on Carlyle Fund Failure
"``Sentiment for the dollar continues to deteriorate very, very rapidly and if we're not careful this will turn into a dollar crash,'' said Mitul Kotecha, head of foreign-exchange research in London at Calyon, the securities unit of Credit Agricole SA, France's second-biggest bank"

This is getting ugly fast.
I have no knowledge of the HBO special of John Adams but I hope they don't rewrite history to much, he and his son John Quincy Adams are distant relations of mine and from all that I have read is that John Adams was the most right wing of all the founding fathers. This included Alien and Sedition Acts, and the unwashed masses are supposed to know there place.

Rinse-Repeat
Carlyle Fund?
Is that related to the Carlyle Group?
Jay Severin Has a Small Pen1s @ 24:
Yep. Specifically the Carlyle Capital company, based in the Netherlands is what collapsed last night. They're sort of a spin-off corporation still attached to the Carlyle Group. I wonder how this will affect the corporation as a whole.
L.A. Confidential @ 2:
Investigators said he "allegedly" spent 80,000 dollars on prostitutes. Nobody brought the hypocrite down but himself. What I can't figure out, is why when these politicians get caught in their hypocrisy, their wives stand by them. Mine would go with me in front of the media, and then knee me in the groin in front of everyone. These women obviously have no self esteem or pride. From Hillary, to Larry Craig's wife, to Spincterman. Beyond belief.
Jay Severin Has a Small Pen1s @ 24:
Yes it is. Carlyle Group owns that fund which is going under. It sort of reminds me of (in a way) the movie Trading Places with Eddie Murphy. Especially the part at the end where the Dukes of Duke and Duke end up losing it all.
Carlyle Capital Nears Collapse as Rescue Talks Fail (Update6)
March 13 (Bloomberg) -- Carlyle Group said creditors plan to seize the assets of its mortgage-bond fund after it failed to meet more than $400 million of margin calls, heightening concern about a lending freeze that led to a plunge in the dollar and global stock markets.

Re: the mess at HUD
"The similarities between Bush administration agencies and organized-crime families are routinely striking,"
Shrub has always run the govt as if it were his personal property and the crimes of his administration are always just 'business as usual'. The whorehouse has long since ceased to pretend they are anything but the executive branch of the reslug party. I'm just surprised that there is an actual investigation into the matter. Did they forget to fire those agents? Or have they just not "had a talk" with their bosses yet? Either way I will be highly surprised to see any investigation into shrub co. wrong doing go anywhere.
Joe O. @ 27:
Dis mean Poppy Bush and James Baker will have to start on as greeters at Wal Mart?
Senator Clinton Tries Something She, Like Bush, is Not Used to Doing, Apologizing. But Read It Closely. She Even Has Adopted the Republican Non-Apology Apology.
This is the Senator "Apologizing" for Bill Clinton's South Carolina Racially-charged Remarks: ""I want to put that in context. You know I am sorry if anyone was offended.
It was certainly not meant in any way to be offensive," Hillary Clinton said. "We can be proud of both Jesse Jackson and Senator Obama."
One, She Didn't Apologize for the Remarks; She Did What Trent Lott and Other GOPers Have Done: Apologized if the Remarks "Offended" Anyone Putting the Onus on Anyone Offended.
Two, She Framed the Faux Apology in the Same Way Bill Originally Made It Racially Charged, by Pairing Obama with Jackson and Ignoring that Bill Clinton Won the South Carolina Primary After Jackson, As Did Other White Males.
This is Called Keeping the Issue Alive Under the Guise of Appearing to, but Not Actually, Regretting It. Oh Yeah, at About the Same Time Keith Olbermann was Trashing the Senator for Her Descent Into the Lee Atwater Gutter of Racial Politics, She FINALLY "Repudiated" Ferraro after a Long Period of Vaguely But Not Definitively Distancing Herself from the Remarks.
In Short, She Kept the Archie Bunker Atwater Strategy Alive While Appearing to Regret if Anyone Misinterpreted Things. No, Senator Clinton, You, I and Your Staff Know Exactly What is Going on, As do a Large Number of Even the Mainstream Press Nowadays. You're out of the Closet on Race Now, And No One Expects for You to Drop the Baiting in PA, Since it Appeals to Many in Your Core Constituency There. [buzzflash.3/13]
Joe O. @ 27:
they could be in the hole for about $14Bil.
You have to love it!
ConcernedHusseinCanuck @ 26:
LOL! That's what I'd do too. I watch these woman with their dire faces trying to be stoic or something for the camera and coming off as looking constipated and angry. Ladies I realize there's a lot of money tied up in those pre-nups but I suspect with a good lawyer and all the evidence that's been dug up for you already you can prevail. Grab your coat and get the hell out!
And yeah if I had the opportunity I'd knee the bastard in the groin on live tv before walking out.
Joe O. @ 27:
By the way, this reminds me of the first time I had ever went on margin call with my portfolio years ago. I was a novice at stocks at the time. I underestimated that a stock might have a sharp rise or fall in price when you put in your market order and, with the commission I ended up being $6 on margin call. I called my broker and thought I was going to have my account liquidated because of it so I wanted to get it fixed quick. they basically said, "Your calling us for $6?" Then they asked if I would have the $6 in my account within three days. I said I was already in the process of doing it. They basically laughed and said don't worry about it because they have large investors and hedge funds go on margin call for millions of dollars all of the time. I'm glad I don't have Carlye Group's problems. lol
MargeAggedon @ 32:
Agree 1000%. I completely lost all respect I had for the Clintons, as one by one another woman came out to admit to affairs with him over the decades and she just stood there. Political ambitions or just too corrupt to care?
MargeAggedon @ 32:
It is amazing how judgmental supposed liberals here are. It's hard when you love the guy. How do you throw away 21 years together? It's not just dumping the guy, it's throwing away the whole concept of home and what that means. It's your kids and their lives. But what the hay, it's just easier to say "fuck it" and bail. Typical American disposable society. Why fix anything, just get a new one.
Strawberrybitch @ 35:
"typical" is certainly what your post qualifies as. The 'typical american' response you speak of was posted by two canadians. And our opinions on the matter are tongue in cheek. Most get that. That said, after 21 years of marriage I would hope the cocksucker who just publicly humiliated me wouldn't expect me to go on live national TV and smile about it. But should it ever happen to you I'll expect to see you out there with that happy barbie doll smile making that effort for your mayun.
Strawberrybitch @ 35:
Ya, it's the same if the guy beats the crap out of the woman for years.....might as well stay for love....bull.
MargeAggedon @ 36:
Doofus, why do you think I am commenting on this. Use your pea brain. It's not that black and white. In my case, my husband had a breakdown in Iraq and went off the deep end. If I would have dumped him, he would have probably killed himself on the streets of Amsterdam where he fled to. But hey, your such a compassionate liberal, maybe your right, I should dump him and let him deal with his mental illness alone.
Strawberrybitch @ 38:
I would say there is a huge difference between that and a husband that spends 80,000 on prostitutes, or a hubby who gets caught over and over screwing women. Obviously those husbands do not love their wives. Especially if they rail in their careers, fighting this type of act.
Strawberrybitch @ 38:
Ok one, I didn't insult you but I gather you're not capable of doing the same.
Two, your personal problems are not my concern. Try keeping them out of the discussion.
Three your personal issues have nothing to do with the original story or the post.
And Four there is no comparison between an asshole who spends his nights fucking prostitutes and then expects his wife to support him in his national "I'm sorry I fucked up" campaign and your situation.
Try myspace, I hear they do good pity parties.
Carlye Group is a trillion dollar company, and this is just one of the several wings of the company. If it makes the Bush family squirm, it's fine by me.
Maybe Spitzer's wife dosn't care? Some relationships are open, this is the 21st century people!
ConcernedHusseinCanuck @ 39:
Look you guys. Show a little compassion, you don't know all the details, and that poor woman is still in shock. Hell, it's been six months for me and I'm just coming out of it. I know how she feels and I couldn't imagine having supposed liberals (like myself )pileing on me because I'm standing by a person who needs help. How do you know her husband isn't a sex addict? Would you have more compassion if he was a gambling addict or drug addict? Trust me I'm not defending his actions and he did the right thing by stepping down, but it's a private matter between them and poking fun at a woman in pain is not a liberal reaction. PS My republican family (on both sides) thinks I should dump my husband.
MargeAggedon @ 40:
You are SUCH a sweet human being.
Strawberrybitch @ 44:
Yes. I am.
gawd bless you as well.
Strawberrybitch @ 43:
First of all nobody poked fun at her at all. Second it is NOT a private matter at all. The man was elected on a platform of cleaning up drugs and prostitution. Three, how much of this money spent was taxpayers? And finally, we were taking the collection of political wives and wondering why they put up with the mental abuse. Nobody can stick up for him. He's trash. "I made a mistake." No, his only regret after 80 grand was getting caught. And any woman that stays with an abuser of any kind, doesn't do it out of love.
Ya know Canuck and Marge. You two are really mean and have cold and heartless sides to you. And it shows. Now if you excuse me, I have to take my philandering, cheating husband to his doctor's appointment, 'cause ya know, I have no self esteem and I'm not doing it out of love, compassion or liberal beliefs of foregivness and redemption.
Strawberrybitch @ 47:
OMG! Thanks for the laugh strawberry shortcake LOL!! XD
Yeah, you two CHILL!
Pardon moi for interupting this demure and gracious discussion ...
Upcoming report shows how FBI used national security letters
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Justice Department's inspector general will release a report Thursday detailing more problems with the way the FBI used an investigative tool called national security letters.
The audit will detail how the bureau used national security letters in 2006.
The previous report documented problems with improper requests and unauthorized collection of phone and e-mail records, and indicated the FBI did not report all possible violations of procedures in the use of NSLs once officials became aware of them as required by law.
NSLs are requests sent to businesses that hold financial, phone and Internet records, asking that they turn over those records without a court order.
In an apparent effort to deflect criticism, Mueller volunteered the information about the upcoming audit in his opening statement to the judiciary committee and emphasized that the time frame covers a period before the FBI enacted reforms in the use of the letters.
"We have instituted new procedures and internal oversight mechanisms to ensure that we as an organization minimize the chance of future lapses," he told the committee.
Hard to believe some of the hateful comments here. I keep looking up to see which wingnut site I'm on. Turns out progressives can be just as unhinged as the other side...
Wow, thanks for linking that post on the Kagan-Rosen interview. Kagan's debating strategy is, "if we say success means this narrow set of results and ignore the horrible realities of Iraq, then we've succeeded!"
Strawberrybitch @ 47:
For what it's worth, SB, I agree with you and admire your compassion. Good luck.
Mickey Finn @ 51:
Hateful?
This was overheard on the BBC just five minutes ago: The reporter started out by saying: Dick Cheney beware!.............. then she went on explaining how a decent (in Cheney's case that would be in more ways than one) computer hacker can actually stop the heart of people with a de-fibrilator.
