C&L makes the Guardian's: 'The world's 50 most powerful blogs'
By John Amato Friday Mar 14, 2008 3:58pmThis is pretty cool. It doesn't say that it's in number order, but what it does say is that the C&L team and our readers are doing great work.

You are welcome !!
What does this have to do with John Adams?
Congratulations, but no great surprise, as the honour is well deserved. This was the first blog that I ever found myself bookmarking. You do sensational work here.
Congrads C&L.
Awesome! Congratulations once again to "YouTube before YouTube" for political junkies! ;-)
Congratulations!!! Keep up the good work.
who's the guardian
I hope it isn't in any order.
If Boing Boing and Perez Hilton are more powerful than C&L, the apocalypse is nigh.
Congratulations to Nicole Belle, John Amato, and all the great posters and contributors at C&L.
Very nice.
Now tell me why 9/11 conspiracy posts are deleted (before my time here, apparently).
I just want to say a big THANK YOU for this site! Its one of the two main political blogs I check out and it has been an amazing resource! Thanks to C&L and all of you who contribute!
Lollimom @ 10:
This is not a conspiracy theory website. Doesn't that sum it all up?
Congratulations!
Congrats and a big Thanks for bringing us stories that would otherwise get buried. Keep up your fine work.
Faster than a speeding Stealth bomber
Able to leap to conclusions in a single bound
More powerful than a Simon Cowell
It's a bungee-jumper, it's a hang-glider,
It's C&L!
Well deserved.
kos mocked the rankings a few days ago (note its absence).
The keyboard is more powerful than the sword. C&L proves that every day.
This is not a surprise to me. Congratulations!!!
Wow, that Huffington write-up is pretty bad in its characterization of bloggers. One of my pet peeves is the way many MSM types still lump in liberal bloggers and conservative bloggers together. While there are similarities, and some cool conservative bloggers out there as well, if we put aside advocacy for the moment: Generally speaking the liberal blogosphere is concerned about accuracy in the media and wants the press to do its job better, while the dominant conservative blogosphere wants to destroy an independent press altogether, as authoritarians are wont to do.
Congrats and thank you for being a site that welcomes discussion and different points of view. You have been in my top 2 faves for a long time and will be for a long time to come.
On occasion the comments posted here make me want to weep but overall it gives me a sense of community and hope and a belief that America's best days are yet to come. Long live free speech! Rock on C&L!
Keep Pumping Iron!
Congratulations C&L!
Lollimom @ 10:
For the simple reason that every and i mean EVERY single thread was hijacked by 9/11.
(waves to the Guardian readers)
hows the rain doing over there? want to swap it for some snow!
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 24:
have a separate section maybe, or one day a month is 911 day with coffee and donuts.
200 million visitors. Man we need to clean these carpets!
ferrofluid Hussein @ 26:
It is not my decision, i am just a guest here.
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 28:
ack the Nuremberg defense ;) (joke)
I will defend C&L and their decision. I was here for the tail end of it, it got pretty ugly.
There are so many things we know for a fact that did happen and is happening that we need to discuss and be outraged about. We can talk about the Kennedy assasination if you like but the results would be the same- no real conclusion.
Congratulations and thank you!
It's all about you, JOHN. All about YOU.
John Amato, you are going to have to create a new catagory called "Honors" and file this post in there. "Uncatagorized" is no place for this.
Many many congrats!
You check out todays 'We have to come together' speech?
GREAT JOB JOHN... You have given all of us a great place to exchange ideas and thoughts.
ferrofluid Hussein @ 26:
mmm...donuts
Yes, this is a great favourite of ours on this side of the pond. Cheerio, chappies!
Well thank you, I appriciate that! :)
Dough NuTs . . . fried dough. Yuck
Congrats! To be on that list says a lot. It says that C&L is one of the leaders when it comes to political coverage on the global internet. Lets face the facts. To be a leader on the internet means you have beaten the global competition and with millions of blogs around the world, that in itself is a great achievement. Even the mainstream media can not say that. I'm not sure about many of the other websites but I am sure that they to were selected because they are well ahead of the others when it comes to the specific topic they cover.
I also liked the mention about reader comments. To me, this adds to C&L's appeal. Many times on other websites readers do not get the opportunity to voice their opinions. You just simply get to read what the author wants you to read. I can be very opinionated at times and I always have something to say. C&L is one of the few outlets that let me voice those opinions which I think, sometimes are pretty good ones.
Everybody needs to take a bow. Its the people who comment on this site that makes it great. Being able to come here and vent is what keeps me sane, and out of jail.
Face it GW. Boosh is still pResident.
I'd feel better about accolades if I didn't have to look at his stupid smirk.
Congratulations C&L, it's well-deserved!
Alright break over. Back to work.
The cons don't rest or sleep.
C&L is nice and all that. But I have a really hard time taking any listing of the most influential blogs seriouly when it does not include Calculated Risk. There is certainly no reading of "influential" that I can think of (widely read, most likely to affect policy decisions, most widely quoted) that would put Crooked Timber (again a nice blog) on the list, but not Calculated Risk.
Walker @ 47:
Just had to be a smart ass didn't ya.
Blogtalk: Pro-Clinton Bloggers Boycott Kos
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/15/blogtalk-pro-clinton-blogg...
It was kind of them to include those other 49 in there.
200 million servered - that's a lotta food for thought...
Obviously, people like byting into your meaty posts (yum yum, special sauce too, lol).
Thanks for shaking things up, John et al!
You've put in a tremendous amount of work - you must be fryed...
So kick back and have a happy meal...
Later, I'll come by and we'll see if we can stop the McBurglar from sneaking inta the house.
Massimungous CongratuProps C&L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hard to believe Kos isn't in the top 50.
xoites Hussein defends Constitution @ 24:
Yep. I was just a lurker back then and it seemed worse than the somewhat charged atmosphere we presently enjoy.Hardly seemed worth posting.
L.A. Confidential @ 49:
Poor Clinton blogger, can't take the heat. Clinton will take down the democratic party,if she is not given the crown, and be damned anyone else. The Clinton grew are really taking a slash and burn approach to getting the prize, while the rest of us are left holding the bag.
ferrofluid Hussein @ 26:
Wouldn't work. Notice how Clinton and Obama supporters go after each other on threads where neither is the topic? Multiply that by 100.
xoites is right. It got very ugly. VERY.
diamondmc @ 53:
It's weird stuff. Obama gave his "We need to come together" speech today. His supporters cheered and less then 30 minutes later they were back to bashing and attacking Clinton.
What gives here?
L.A. Confidential @ 55:
Its what dems always do... Snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
diamondmc @ 56:
He should have said EVERYONE needs to come together. But they probably wouldn't even have gotten that.
What to me that works well here, is the sitemonitors. I really think that the level of trolls here is tolerable because of the sitemonitors working the posts over.
"This is pretty cool. It doesn’t say that it’s in number order..."
Doesn't say that it's not in number order either.
Wonder if C&L were #1 and Huffpost were #37 would the comment have been "C&L the most powerful blog in the world!"
Good spin though:)
L.A. Confidential @ 57:
No way can Hillary or Obama stop the zealots from running their mouths. The problems comes when Hillary or Obama start sounding like the zealots. Hillarys luke warm response about Obama being a Muslim is a case in point. Dems will destory any chance of winning in Nov.
diamondmc the right wing media has just taken the Willy Horton and Iron Mike Dukakis tactic to a whole new level. Carpet bombing.
Attack, slash, divide, demoralize, and no surrender.
Otherwise we'd just have a normal run of the mill election.
L.A. Confidential @ 61:
But as we all know now the Necons decided in 2000 they were going to Re Write History.
Pretty cool?? I'd say VERY KEWL!!
Dr. Evil; step aside. JohnAmatoCo. is takin' over. Bwahahahaha.
now all john needs to do is stop being a yankee fan, and he will be perfect
It occurred to me while venting on another thread that this is my favorite video game. I get to travel from level to level slaying trolls and nailing pinheads (in the nicest way of course) and the fun never stops.
Unfortunately, Michelle Malkin still appears in the top 50. It will be a great day when she no longer makes any top blog lists.
Congrats! You deserve it. Now, can you use some of that power to promote Jon Turley for AG after the November election?
L.A. Confidential @ 62:
The real problem is some dems are using the right wing media to win at all costs. Hillary said " It takes a village", so why would you burn the village down? McCrazy who thinks war is the only answer, is sitting back while dems burn the village down. Its sad that dems and progressives are so fucked up, that they can't see the big picture.
Congrats!
Congratulations bourgeois liberals!
congratulations for the fifth time this week.
you're doing way too well, Mr. Amato.
wwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy tttoooooo well!!!
Congratulations! Well deserved.
I only hope ,
that a misfit like me ,
can be part of this family
Congratulations John and the C&L family!
If Darwin had a blog, C&L is what it would look like.
There is no mystery (except to Chimpy and his Cabal) why we called Freedom of Speech the 1st amendment.
WOW!!! Yet another honor in your birthday week. How KEWL is that!?! You lucky dawg!!!! Anyway I really enjoy your site. I discovered it during Hurricane Katrina when Anderson Cooper took down Senator Mary Landrieu & exposed Bush for the crook & liar he really is. Great work! Impeach & remove Bush & Cheney from office.
