Take Back America with a Responsible Plan For Iraq
By Nicole Belle Sunday Mar 16, 2008 4:03pmOur current Congress isn't doing it. But progressive activists aren't taking that lying down. At the Take Back America conference currently going on in Washington DC, we have asked an initial 10 progressive congressional challengers to sign on to our Responsible Plan for Iraq. The plan, which calls for no residual troops and a diplomatic "surge", will be announced formally here at the Take Back America conference in DC at 5:30 Eastern today. Brig. Gen. John Johns has also made a video supporting a Responsible Plan.
Darcy Burner (WA-08) (you can watch the streaming video of the announcement at 5:30 pm Eastern on her site)
Jared Polis (CO-02)
Donna Edwards (MD-04)
Eric Massa (NY-29)
Chellie Pingree (ME-01)
Tom Perriello (VA-05)
George Fearing (WA-04)
Larry Byrnes (FL-14)
Steve Harrison (NY-13)
Sam Bennett (PA-15)
We'll be adding more as we near the election. These are candidates that have promised us that they WILL work to end our occupation of Iraq and to support a progressive agenda.
Please reward these challengers at our Blue America page for support. This is our chance to create our "Contract For America" but this time, actually make things better here.

Um...primero?
I have donated all I can this month unfortunately...but I will donate to these folks ASAP!
If America is going to be taken back by the People, there are a lot of Democratic elected officials who are going to have to be booted out of office, because they no longer represent the People, they give a shit about the Constitution and they've sold their souls to corporate and banking interests. If they aren't put on the streets, nothing is going to change for the better.
The Take Back America conference
When your government is too stupid to think for itself.
I am so happy that there is a movement that is holding democrats Responsible for the votes they give. It give me hope that we can change the broken system and make our voices heard.

It's a Government run by Deserter from his Obligated service in the Guard,
a C- student in college who has failed four companies and one Ball Club,
and then went into the major league and ruined a country.
GW Bush, Grammarian president.
No Residual troops? So what happens if Iraq descends into absolute chaos? I don't wanna be the idiot who helped an irreresponsbile deal like this get passed.
No thanks. You don't have my support.
One of the sessions of Take Back America is on C-span right now.
As long as we refer to Iraq as a war, we will lose this argument. There is no war in Iraq, there has not been a war in Iraq sense George "the decider" Bush stood on that flight deck and declared victory. What we have in Iraq is an occupation. Wars can be won. Occupations can not be won. Occupations can only be ended.
Scramble to calm markets
Central bankers and regulators scrambled to shore up confidence in financial markets as panicky investors reacted to the news that Bear Stearns’ equity was close to worthless and fears that the investment bank may not be the last casualty of the credit crunch

The hi-jackers in the White House are holding three countries hostage and plundering all three as we sit here and push buttons on our keyboards.
Take back America is all very good.
The only responsible plan for Iraq is to give it back to the people it belongs to.
The same goes for Afghanistan.
Its a shame America cannot withdraw altogether and leave another Non-partisan Peace-keeping force from neutral countries. America probably will still foot the bill as its obvious criminal acts, under the current administration, could no longer be suppressed.
You can livestream the meeting right now at http://www.darcyburner.com/
Well Congress would get more done if we had a Fucking Democrat in the White House. It's hard to get anything DONE when you got a guy like Bush in the White House. But of course alot of people can't understand that.
Good fuckin' luck!!
i bet mcSHIT STAIN thinks take back america is aiding Al-Qaida.
Washington 04: That district was held once by a Democrat Jay Inslee. Does this name seem familiar? He won that seat in 1992 and promptly lost it to "Doc" Hastings in 1994. That's a huge district which, with the exception of Ellensburg and Yakima is very conservative.

Wow! It's thrilling to see Congressmen and women leading policy change. The current obsession with presidential candidates' opinions makes them into demagogues who just create more power for themselves and the presidency. Their role is to be the executor of policy debated, compromised and funded by our Congress. Let's leave policy to Congress where it belongs.
'Take back America'....Hmm, maybe someone should write a song about that.. Maybe Tom Petty or someone.... Sound flippant? It is... Maybe none of our collective bitching amounts to jack shit at this point, as long as Nancy and the house and senate refuse to 'take back their responsibilities', and get serious about reigning this fuckwad and his clueless entourage in... I think you all know what I'm talking about...Yep, that 'I' word again.... Sorry Paul in L.A.... I ain't really looking to go dosey doe with you over this shit.. I know your meme, I get the logic, and I still think it needs to happen anyway, win lose or draw.......JD
I think it's important that we withdraw all our troops from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as well. The main reason the 19 attackers joined Al Qaida was due to their horror at our having infidel troops on Saudi land.
Take away the motivation to join Al Qaida and you will immobilize it. Then work on taking away the money via alternative fuels.
Wow, more American heroes! Long Live Freedom and Democracy. Truth and Justice for All!
why do we not simply adopt the proposal of mcgovern and wm. polk? if you have not looked at it, it's utterly brilliant, exceedingly detailed in every respect, and very logically argued.
and it's been around for months. if you haven't checked it out, do so. harper's published a synopsis of it:

truly brilliant.
It's a great document and we here in Washington's 4th are thrilled that George Fearing signed on (on of the first). His website is http://www.Georgefearing.com

jack damage @ 24:
Nothing has changed in this regard. If anything, it is now farther away as a result of the nasty primary fight.
I'd like to see Cheney impeached. That doesn't mean I think he will be convicted. So if the approach is to blame Pelosi for the condition of the Senate, that is jack shit, I'm pretty sure.
Collective bitching leading to replacement of bad Senators is still very much worth doing.
Well, if it isn't...Pelosi looks downright smitten:

I was at the Take Back America forum on the New Responsible Plan, and let me tell you how impressive the group was. I knew much about the Blue Majority candidates like Donna Edwards and Darcy Burner, but I was really impressed by Tom Perriello. This guy gave a short but incredible speech about being part of the team that brought down Charles Taylor in West Africa, and he worked on international diplomacy in Afghanistan and Darfur. His staff was out in full force at the meeting. He seems to be the type of inspiring candidate needed to turn a district like VA-5 nice and blue.
It was really fantastic meeting these new candidates that we NEED to support this summer/fall at this conference. I encourage everybody to give what they can "Give til it hurts!" to these progressive candidates!
vince @ 15:
When the British occupied India for a couple of hundred years, Gandhi suggested they leave and simply walk out of India. And the problems they have will be their own. The British laughed at him. But that is exactly what happened. The United States has only occupied Iraq for 5 years. They will simply leave because the US cannot afford to be there. Foreign countries are starting to look at the Euro for a source of exchange. The dollar has fallen to an all time low and won't be worth the paper it is printed on.
Greed is the culprit and that is what permeates the US. It is refreshing to see the videos and perhaps all won't be lost.
Don't forget about that "gutsy" Democrat, Gilda Reed, who is running to fill the vacant seat left open by Bobby Jindal. US Congressional Dist 1, Louisiana
FYI- Jared Polis is not a Democratic challenger. He is running against two Democrats in a primary in a safe Democratic district. Both of the other Democrats have taken MORE progressive positions than this plan. Please don't be fooled into supporting him.
Mark @ 25
I agree 100%
I don't think we need troops in Germany or Japan anymore either.
Iraq doesn't need or want a "diplomatic surge"- the only thing they want is a complete withdrawal of all US and foreign forces and elimination of all bases. Iraqi's have had enough of US "help".
