PHILADELPHIA — Democratic Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday tried to stem damage from divisive comments delivered by his pastor, while bluntly addressing anger between blacks and whites in the most racially pointed speech yet of his presidential campaign.

I believe in reality it is a very small percentage of blacks and whites in this country who are pissed off at each other.

The rest of us get along just fine.

those arguing that they know what is best for business (the "free" market advocates, the market fundamentalists, the neoliberals, the supply-siders, etc.) have adopted an ideological position that actually will end up destroying the economy.

maybe those that profess their belief in the omnipotence of a "free" and unregulated market are actually communist infiltrators, because their prescription for a sound capitalist economy, adhered to by both dems and reps, is proving to be an abject failure.

Haven't seen video yet, but this is a GREAT speech by Obama:

"A More Perfect Union"

"The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright’s sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning. That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races."

Right next to these headlines we're now seeing the full-on atomic meltdown of our nation's financial system, something aided, abetted, initiated, fomented, and lovingly churned to a fine curdle by the Bush Administration and their free-market-droid capitalists. Obama's pastor issues are going to be completely forgotten in a week as American scramble to keep afloat.

I'm not exactly gleeful about this, mind you. I'm just as likely to get sunk as the next poor slob. But it is worth noting that this election will be about BIG FUCKING ISSUES, and not likely to be distracted by yammering idiots trying to drag our candidates down with character assassination. Which means Clinton and McSplain got some, 'Splainin to do. Since they've both been a big help to the head-crushingly stupid elite who brought us to this pass.

Contrary to the assertions of a certain back-stabbing Democratic Presidential candidate, one of the jobs of the President, or in fact of any leader, is to articulate a shared vision for those whom they purport to lead. Obama is excellent at doing this which is why he's getting such a good response. Americans have listened for seven years to a drooling imbecile yammer on incoherently about issues of which he is entirely ignorant. It's a breath of fresh air to listen to someone who actually is saying something, making sense, and saying something that needs to be said.

With less than a year left in Shrub's presidency, it isn't an economic meltdown, it's an economic shakedown, where the corporate jackasses are trying to steal as much from the taxpayer as possible, before the next Prez has no choice but to halt the corporate welfare a bit. I look around where I live, and guess what? They do deserve to be going bankrupt. Whether the banks are stupid enough to loan the money or not, just who did Joe Blow think the government was going to bail out when push came to shove? Of course the banks and investors. They matter to the government, not Joe Blow. And what kind of idiot thinks they can afford a half million dollar home, when they earn squat for income? Mine is 50/50 within one mile. Within two miles the black concentration increases.

We get along well but the area is the poorest in our Michigan county which is one of the most affluent.

As a country, we do not have anything approaching uniform integration.

There has been progress and you would be right to point to it but race still predicts economic status too much.

I feel personally that affirmative action needs to be class based rather than race based.

If Obama comes out with that, and probably only an African American could do it, he will be a person of astonishing courage.

I would wager they can't sell them for many reasons. I know where I live, people are so far in debt, they need more for their homes than what they are worth on the market realistically, because they paid too much, and could never afford it in the first place. A guy on my block bought himself a 250,000 dollar home. He works for $14/hour and his wife does not work. They drive a brand new SUV. How long before he has to sell? Probably not long.

Re the so-called blog wars: I just want to take this chance to ardently THANK C&L for not plopping their asses down in the camp of one Dem candidate or the other. It's why I'm still coming here every day. I am actively boycotting any and all political blogs who've decided to choose a candidate this early in the game, including MoveOn. What makes the hateful infighting particularly ridiculous to me is that neither candidate is a thoroughbred progressive -- they're both hawkish, taking money from the power elite, and not promoting from the ground up reform. They're moderates, at best. I'll vote for them, of course, but they are not Dr. King, Barbara Jordan, Cesar Chaves or Susan B. Anthony.

Well we have heard from all the bigots and their feelings about what Senator Obama is about. Not that they did not all have their fun and games in the days leading up to this event.

Never the less, I am so very proud of Senator Obama for having the audacity to stand tall and do something that very few has ever done for this country and it is clear that many of the people his sentiments were directed at, continue to be in denial and sad as it may be, would like to continue to attempt to lead others down the deep dark path, that many have diligently been trying to break out of, for the betterment of this country and needless to say that many of us are rooting for these good people, whom there are many.

They realize there counter parts are liars, cheats and are people that are willing to do anything for the enrichment of themselves and be dame with others, who only seek to have a fair opportunity. They repeatedly want to continue down the low road of division and hate based rhetoric, instead of the high road.

When anybody would think about whom the people I make reference to are. Just get a big bottle of Pepito bismo and tune into any TV or Radio station in this country, with the exception of a few and you can find these people, running from station to station, with news, views and information that just does not connect with anybody or anything. Many of these people have no shame at all and it is so very sad to see that the only people allowed as regular guest on these political talk shows, blacks included, are people who will agree with the warped philosophy, they generate.

We consistently here these people all day as they attempt to get the opinion of their guest of why race is such an issue in this presidential race and not any of these people have the guts and the courage to get up and in the faces of these people and say, it is you folks that continue this monologue of race baiting every issue about Obama. They know this folks, yet they dare anyone who wants to be regular guest, to tell it like it is and if they do. You wont be seeing them around any more.

There is no open dialog to be found in our national media, these days, It is their way or the high way, never mind that American people are the real owners of the air waves. Rupert Murdock has purchased it from us, without consent and that is the end of that.

On a brighter note, it has been so very refreshing to hear that the majority of views, from most all well thinking Americans who really want change, are giving Senator Obama an A+ and these are people of all walks of life, that are simply so tired of the same old crap these same old people have shoved at us for so long.

The real question now is what is Hillary Clinton going to do now that her latest scheme has not worked and never believe that she was not the culprit, behind this mess, that has actually turned out for the betterment of not just Obama, but America who for the first time in a very long time has the opportunity to really discuss the race issue, up front and out in the open as we honor and respect the views of all.

Senator Obama picked up a truck load of Delegates, all through the week end and this polling data giving Hillary this so call unreachable lead is just what all of the leads have been for her as she bounces from state to state, only to be kicked in the ass and sent on her way. We may not have much of a voice in national media, but we continue to have the best hand, with our votes and never doubt they don't know this, which is why they have again resorted to dirty tricks as they use republicans to vote in the primary for Hillary, just to bloody Obama.

We are not so stupid to not realize that these people are not going to be voting for Queen Hillary in the national, which will automatically cost the democrats the office of the President if we allow this.

We understand that Obama is the only candidate that will send McCain, back to the Senate or Retire him for good.
