Blue America Welcomes Martin Heinrich
By Howie Klein Friday Mar 21, 2008 12:50pmToday's Blue America candidate is Martin Heinrich and he's running for Congress in the open Albuquerque seat being deserted by Heather Wilson. He was the president of the City Council there and got a great deal accomplished, including making Albuquerque only the 4th city in the whole country with a minimum wage higher than the state or federal government. For many outside New Mexico, Martin was better known as a mechanical engineer who built a solar powered car and raced it across the country and, more recently, as the guy who was voted "hottest man in U.S. politics." (Now he has a solar powered home, in which he lives with his wife and two children.) Last Saturday he completely dominated the New Mexico pre-primary convention and today he'll be joining us for a 2 hour live blog session at Firedoglake at 11AM (PT), which is noon in New Mexico and 2PM on the East Coast. Last night Martin put this clip together for us:

Hottest man in U.S. politics
Whats that supposed to mean?
What I would like to know Martin, is when are solar retrofits and upgrades going to become affordable for the average person.
No American flags in the background? And where's his lapel pin?
We need every seat the republicans vacate to be filled with Democrats.
I know, I know, I'm not that thrilled with the job the Dems have done so far, but we need to have the 60 seat majority so we can push our bills past and into law.
I and a few others here are trying to persuade the Thai Government to allow us to start a business putting solar power on homes here, especially when there is so much sunlight here.
So far they are interested, but we need to have some locals join.
Martin has had to fight the self-interest groups who don't really want to fast of a revolution toward solar power. (it does exist in the US)
Blue America should also be touting Don Wiviott who is vying for NM CD 3, Tom Udall's vacant seat. Wiviott is up against old family dynasty politics here in NM. And Udall is going after the seat Domenici is vacating. Udall is running against two neocons, Heather Wilson is one of them. New Mexico must go blue in 2008!
sorry folks, can't hang ... bad hangover and its past one am here. later
This is funny.
C+L caters to a skewing older, more educated following. The typical visitor reads thinkprogress.org, subscribes to Vanity Fair, and watches Al Jazeera.

They say the exact same thing about firedoglake.
Even funnier since I do not read thinkprogress, subscribe to Vainity Fair, or watch Al Jazeera.
Older and more educated was correct though.

I must be missing something here. C&L visitors go to TP?..yeah,so? Vanity Fair is BS...Al Jazeera?wtf.
mudshark @ 9:
LOL I'm with you on that.

I've never been to the Al Jazeera site, but I'll go check it out now.I want to see how impartial it is.I've heard that it's a decent news source. Can't be any worse than what we have here.

I'm older too, and I don't subscribe to either one, though I'll sometimes read think progress.
blue america rocks
I must say that I check out C+L daily and don't fit any of those categories (unless 42 years old and 2 years of college makes me old and more educated).
I think that everything gets over analyzed and we get fighting about the little things that have nothing to do with the problem being discussed.
I wish Martin well! I understand the courage it takes to step forward into the public eye. It is much easier to sit at the computer and blog. This summer we need to give the computers a rest and get out in the streets and talk to our neighbors about changing the way things have been. Matin or any other candidate cannot do it by himself and the republicans are way better organized (have been for some time).
One thing that Martin didn't mention that needs to be addressed (I am sure he knows) is Health Care. This is the issue that is hurting the average family (notice I didn't say typical). Time to pick up the pieces and move on.
Good luck Mr. Heinrich. You are actually one of the few that has no dirty background at all online. That means alot.
Remind me again, under consideration that the Federal Reserve is independent of government control, what exactly is it that the President can do to boost the economy - aside, of course, from the best possible outcome of staying the hell out as much as possible. In all aspects of the concept, it would be pretty difficult for a President to actually cause a recession - let alone get us out of one. Historically, the economy has pretty much done what it has wanted to, despite the wishes of many willing and unwilling participants.
As for inane, cliche promising to get us out of Iraq, one ought not to be concerned - Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are way ahead of you on breaking that promise. He should really stick to making invidious pledges concerning economic policy, as most voting Democrats appear to remain stupid enough to believe that he will actually make a difference.
A congressional candidate that actually can use a wrench and hand tools, thats something for the record books.
Its normally lawyers and their ilk that get in there.
Good luck Mr. Heinrich, I'm not gay or anything but you are really, really hot, make me want to go all Larry Craig on you. I dont know who Heather Wilson is or why she is "deserting" her seat unless she was sailing on the USS Bush.
I really wish I could vore for this guy, but I do hope that he can get all the support necessary to win this state.
As a 1st district NM voter, I really like Martin and will do all I can. It is GREAT to see some coverage. Back when people were running against Heather Wilson (ugh hate her) none ever received much support or nation coverage.
Martin rocks - and he is a good looking kid.
The DCCC and the DLC types never showed any interest in unseating Wilson.
Seems curious because Wilson is such a bushbot.
Better time ahead, eh?
Happy Easter!
