Don't Get Caged - Check Your Voter Registration Today
By Logan Murphy Tuesday Mar 25, 2008 2:00pmEven if you think you're registered to vote, don't take the chance. All Americans should double check their voter registration now. Vote caging is already being done this campaign cycle and it will continue all the way to November. Rush Limbaugh and the Republicans have already committed voter fraud during the primary season and they'll stop at nothing to win. Even if you've already voted in your state's primary, haven't moved or changed parties, you are still at risk of losing your vote.
If you need more information on where to go in your area to register or to check your current voter status, the Democratic Party has resources to help you get where you need to go. Don't stop there either. Double check your voter status in October or early November, just to make sure. Call your friends and relatives and urge them to do the same -- there's too much at stake in 2008 to let the Republicans steal your vote.

1,148 Voters Cast Ballots Twice In Texas Primary
The Harris County Clerk said Democratic and Republican poll books showed 1,148 people may have illegally voted on March 4. That includes 389 who may have voted during early voting and again on Election Day -- all but one happened in the Democratic primary.
FOIST!

I never received anything confirming that I was registered to vote in the state of florida this year...I think the voter registration card is still valid, but I'm fo dam sho, gonna find out.

GAH!!!! The shame!

to check your registration status in North Carolina.
During the NY primary, no one voted for Obama in one of Harlem's districts.
And remember, Karl Rove took "Caging" to a whole ... 'nother ... level.
wheresarah @ 6:
I couldn't make heads or tails of where to check my registration status on this link http://www.democrats.org/local.html
any ideas? Anyone?
Even if I get to vote, will it be counted? I'm sort of kidding. As for Florida's votes not getting counted in the primary, I agree with Senator Obama, let's follow the rules and when the game is over we can go back and try to fix what is broken.
If for some reason I'm not allowed to vote in November, everyone will hear about it from my local paper on up.
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 9:
Just type in your state and "voter search" in a search engine and you should find a link.

Damn...it's got my info like a mofo on that shit...kinda disconcerting...and I could have sworn I registered as unafiliated, but it show me as a dem...hmmm.
Slight addition: check with your county registrar to find out what the last day for registration changes is and check it that day. Wouldn't help to check in November if the last day is in October...
Medford Tim @ 16:
Yeah, I'd recommend checkin NOW, and weekly until the election, to make sure your registration ain't FUBAR.

This is in no way trying to be insulting, but you Americans have to have one of the most f*%ked up voting systems I have ever seen. You have to be declared and registered as a party member to vote? Here, I get a card in the mail with my name on it. I take it to the polling station, prove who I am, and vote. I don't have to be registered with ANY party and nobody should have to be.
Get a hold of Karl Roves maps and itinerary....

Is that you Senator? Listen, Larry, I need some toilet paper. Pass it under the stall, will you? See you tonight at the usual airport.

I couldn't agree more.
Suggest that everybody check on your registration status no matter which state you live in. Give them hell! Check 2 or 3 times!

I'll let you spin and spur as an attempt to figure out how wrong you are, [Deleted].
Rush was saying this morning that their is not way he will spend any significant time in jail. I think he's right, how are they going to prove he or the people that voted did anything wrong?
chris @ 25:
You're correct. He would die in jail in no time from not receiving his oxycontin and 6000 daily calories.
ConcernedCanuck @ 19:
The US system is setup to make sure people do not get to vote or if they do their vote will not count. That is why the voting system is designed to make it so hard to vote in the United States.
Dr. Hussien Matt @ 26:
Hahaha!!!! that was a golden.
Dr. Hussien Matt @ 26:
What does this have to do with anything?? Can't you people have a civil debate?
If you want the full background on the long long long history of voter caging, then be sure to read the recent Project Vote report Caging Democracy: A 50-Year History of Partisan Challenges to Minority Voters, which you can find here (pdf): http://projectvote.org/fileadmin/ProjectVote/Publications/Caging_Democra...

I don't see anything wrong with voting for who represents a particular party in the general election on has to be a member of that party. You don't have to belong to a party to vote in the general election.
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 15:
WTF?! I voted in the FL Primary but don't find my registration. Uh oh.
Great job posting this message. This has inspired me to go to each home in my neighborhood and make sure that they are aware of the potential risk of vote caging. Please do the same in your neighborhood.
Whew - I found me. ;>)
RayC Hussein @ 33:
Do you have a US Censos or file income taxes every year? That is where our voting eligiblity is filled in. It isn't this big dog and pony show. Click a box at tax time and you are on the voting list and get sent a card before the election. If you lose the card, you are an idiot and shouldn't be voting anyway. I know it isn't a perfect system, but like I said before, we would have had 4 or 5 elections by the time you guys even pick your candidates. It's like watching American Idol repeats. It sure explains why voter turnout in general elections is so low.
ConcernedCanuck @ 19:
You are quite lucky. In my county, in my state, in America, I HAVE to declare myself a Dem or Repub. There are no other options. I can't vote in a Primary without declaring one or the other. If I want to write in a candidate, they get to be one party or the other. I don't even want to guess what happens when the same name appears under both parties. This country really needs instant-runoff voting. Our backwards two party system would melt into nothing.

Suffragium ergo sum?
I deal with this in PA nearly every election cycle. I somehow magically become "not registered" even though I am and voted in the prior elections. In fact I had to re-register again last week after calling the Elections Office and finding out I was once again "nowhere in the system" as being registered.
I always double check before a registration cutoff date as more often than not, I'm knocked back off the registered list.
In 2004 They also moved my polling place without informing me. I ended up having to drive to 3 different polling places to find where they had me on the polling list. I was the only one in my neighborhood who had been moved. My normal polling place is 100 yards walk away. They had me moved to another building 3 miles away.
Always Double check!

He-He Rump Pimple
The Left is all ga-ga over the possibility of prosecuting Rush for voter fraud. I for one (conservative) hope that they can pursue this. Encouraging voter cross-over lacks a certain ethic that a Christian (or any other citizen) should be aware of.
But when I went to vote in the Ohio primary there was a change in the voter registry. The pages no longer noted the party affiliation of the voter and the poll workers, as they told me, were instructed to NOT question the ballot request of the voter.
The implication of this is serious. What it means is that voters who are willing to cross over party lines are not discouraged from doing so. And in terms of potential prosecution for any violation of voter registration agreement, this amounts to nothing less than a state-encouraged entrapment!
Yet there is something even worse at work: Evidence. If there is voting fraud then it would be necessary to be able to link the vote to the voter. To accomplish that goal would remove the sanctity of the secret ballot, and that's a concern for all of us.
This is the type of manipulated voting that we do not need. In all of this, the Ohio Secretary of State should resign in disgrace. This is not how an election should be run.
and while your there pick up the latest prediction of whos going to win the election sponsord by your friends at diebold!!!
Sorry, but as long as it's legal to switch parties from primary to primary, there's nothing illegal about it. Its not illegal just because you want it to be. I think fat people in spandex should be illegal, but no one listens....
In Minnesota we can register on election day using a driver's license, utility bill or even a neighbor to prove we live in that precinct. We're proud of our large voter turnouts and make it as easy as possible for people to vote.
Voter fraud?
Now, whoever writes for this website ought to recognize that Kos from the DailyKos committed the exact same "fraud"; Mr. Kos asked democratic voters in Michigan to vote for Mitt Romney (who won by the way; maybe the media ought to refer to this not as the "Rush Limbaugh Effect", rather the "Kos" effect). Mr. Limbaugh, just like Mr. Kos had done before him, implored his audience to vote outside their party in order to protract the fight between the candidates of the "other" party's nomination.
But is this really fraud?
What if I believe that both parties (Democratic / Republican) are full of shit and I want to see them bloody each other up, show their mangy skin, show their true colors?
What if I am registered Democratic but I believe in a Republican candidate?
We (voters) should be able to pick whomever we want to run for President. The fact that we are obligated to choose from a limited spectrum of candidates furthers the argument that a plurality of choices in political candidates might just raise the number of citizens that are politically active / aware.
I just had an epiphany. Neither the Republican or the Democratic party would ever want such a thing. Why not? Their funding would decrease.

The gop is under a court order and has been since I believe 1986 to stop caging voters names, Why is it still going on? How do these people stand to see themselves each morning? Their parents must be low down as well or they would have taught them right from wrong! Children do mimick their parents! Selfish greed, lack of integrity, cheat, lie, its all ok to use as you walk on people on your way upward. Oh and don't forget to use religion and fear when you lie and no one will question it. Thats right gop, you are a reflection of your mom and dad, if they taught you no better it's not all your fault, they are scum.
