War Inc. John Cusack to live chat with C&L next week
By John Amato Tuesday Mar 25, 2008 8:01pm
It looks like we're going to have John Cusack and his writing partner come on C&L next week to do a live chat about his new movie called "War Inc." Here's the My Space page. You may remember this wonderful post he wrote back in '05
Bush 2. How depressing, corrupt, unlawful and tragically absurd the administration's world view actually is...how low the moral bar has been lowered...and (though I know I'm capable of intellectually lazy notions of collective guilt) how complicit our silence as citizens is...Nixon, a true fiend, looks like a paragon of virtue next to the criminally incompetent robber barons now raiding the present and future. But where are the Dems? American foreign policy is in chaos. We are now left in the surreal position of having to condemn American-sponsored torture as official policy while a deranged President Bush orders his staff to attend ethics briefings -- a "refresher course" -- from the White House counsel.read on
When we set the date, I'll let you all know...

Okie dokey
that'll be cool. John's an atypical hollywood guy. great to see people with access using their notoriety to get socially-responsible productions made.
The music sounds great.
Is it too soon to make a satire of this tragedy?
Not if it’s a REALLY good one.
What the fuck, I’ll see it.
bush is just an obvious indication that America
is not more. this is a fucking police corporate state.
both the repigs and dems have aided in the destruction
of the Constitution.
The trailer looks good, reminds me of Gross Pointe Blank.
Somebody needs to create a democracy somewhere.
Kewl. Cusack. Con Air. One of the most under-rated movies of all time.
"I told you not to touch the bunny. Why didn't you just leave the bunny alone?"
We're going to spend a generation repudiating Bush and begging forgiveness from the world for his atrocities.
We as a nation need to ensure that his descendants are locked out of elective office while the poison dilutes. And to serve as a warning to future political crime families that America does not forget. I certainly will never forgive.
Im sorry but that trailer sucked......feels like pulp fiction in iraq.
Somebody needs to create a democracy somewhere.bush intends too, in paraguay!!!take the money and run !
Where are they now?

please dont hurt me!!!!
That trailer was obviously not created for the gender conflicted.
"Where are the dems?" My exact sentiments. There should have been an impeachment.
the movie has been on the shelf for close to a year....wonder why
and as a film and movie geek, i still wish that cusack had been cast as dan dreiberg/ nite owl...the roll was written for him
Very exciting. I have a lot of respect for this man. Can't wait.

xoites Hussein (non typical white person) defends Constitution @ 5:
Best black comedy ever. Well that and "The Wrong Box"

Ask him about an interview he once had with a newbie reporter/writer who thought he was Kevin Spacey.

John Cusack is not only a outstanding actor, He is also a person to seek material that matters! I cannot wait for him to come out swinging. It may even make some ppl help themselfs make some sence of thier over all drive of what they think is right and wrong in america today.
Great job C&L!!!!!!!!!!
Good night and talk to you all later.
Best regards,,
gee, it only took 19 posts to turn this into a Hillary bashing thread, which is totally unrelated to the topic.
you guys are slippin'
Oh joy. Another self-indulgent Hollywood type sharing their self-loathing with a rapt, doe-eyed audience. Pinch me.
29 RH Potfry Says: Oh joy. Another self-indulgent Hollywood type sharing their self-loathing with a rapt, doe-eyed audience. Pinch me.
Oh joy. Another self-indulgent Republican type sharing his self-loathing with a disintersted liberal audience. Fuck me.
i thought the hillary bashing was referring to hillary duff, who plays the russian popstar slut in the movie
RH Potfry @ 29:
Oh joy, another pathetic play for attention by a whining dittohead. Pinch this!!
Drew @ 18:
hilarious.
AM i banned as well? Or do you just rip out entire conversations without comment as a matter of course?
[To question 1, No not anywhere in my thoughts and 2, Pretty much. To those whose comments were directly related to the post which are now gone-I apologise. To the off topic posters-you know the rules. Thanks for understanding them-Sitemonitor]
[PS Feel free to carry on the off topic conversation in the Open thread. No objection to the content, just its placement]
What F*** is going on C & L??? At least give us an explanation why our comments are being removed.
[Most were off topic. I did accidentally remove two or three comments which were on topic. I'm sorry for that-Sitemonitor]
SO how do we get this back on track here...what was being talked about- I got a bit lost in the thread here- I thought we were talking about John Cusack..?
Ok, now I see the response to Xoites. OK sitemonitor, I get it. Sorry!
Okay, I am confused- is this the OPEN thread ? or is that on another post? .....( I only saw the music post...is that the OPEN thread post ? )
[The open thread just posted. Hurry and be frist!-Sitemonitor]
Sounds like good fun! Hope it's a work-friendly time of day.
uncle joe hussein mccarthy @ 23:
I'd like to bash that hillary...with my balls.
Testing 1,2.3..
Back to John Cusack - he is on Jimmy Kimmel tonight....
Ok, on the topic.... Cusack plays great self-serving assholes (like in 1408 and Con-Air).
He's one of my favorite actors....since Better Off Dead..."where's my two dollars!??!"
John Cusack always does justice to these off beat roles. The trailer does remind me of Gross Point Blank, a role which he was really good in. It's good to see movies coming out about the Iraq War during the Iraq War, where as during Vietnam, movies about Vietnam, especially anti-war were resisted by Hollywood except for MASH which was about "Korea". Movies like The Green Berets, Patton and Tora Tora had a jingoistic feel which studios found more appealing. Oliver Stone contends Nixon's viewing of Patton lead Nixon to expand the war into Cambodia. So no Aladdin for Bush tonight he'll want to expand the war into Iran.

THERE'$ A KILLING
TO BE HAD
AT MAKING WAR$!

i want to know what celebrities think. it matters to me. it does.
John McCain's enlarged prostate @ 3:
I thought the Iraq war was originally supposed to be satire.
Kind of taking Americas war like tendencies to the extreme to point out its faults, kind of like declaring war on the moon.
I don't care if John Cusack is an actor or a pig farmer. Read the text. He makes
sense. I know, sense & truth is a little un-American these days, so lets yap about
Cusack's movies & discount his wise text. Thank you John for printing Cusack's
words. Maybe someone in this group will read the blasted thing.
I also noticed the Bill Moyers banner above.............
until there is a draft, no one is going to take to the streets........
until there is a draft, the kewl kids will let the patriots go in their places, like
always..............
until there is a draft, old white men will get away with sending our babies off to
fight and die for oil or power or whatever.............
until there is a draft, all the blogs and news stories will continue to be ignored.
until there is a draft, no one will care how much is too much..........
until there is a draft......
In the mean time, the media is obssessed with deaths of white middle-class pretty blond girls because of mistaken identity.
WTF is that? Why TF should I care about those deaths? I care more about the 4000+ deaths due to this Iraq war.
Show me a story about a white evangelical pretty blond US navy/marine/airforce girl that died in Iraq, then I'll watch, just maybe, watch that mind-numbing xanac-induced moronic Today Show.
Hillary Duff as herself with a terrible Russian accent and a couple of jars of Manic Panci seems to fail as self-conscious, meta-ironical, media savvy. It's like Melanie Griffith in a John Waters film.
...or like Slim Pickin's in "Dr. Strangelove"
Marisa Tomei gallows humor at the end =good.
Let's just mock this whole surreal nightmare
Mock it, that's a perfectly acceptable response
Cool! Hopefully I'm not at work, I'd like to check it out!
