McCain ignores Jim Webb over new GI Bill

And I thought he wanted to support the troops.

Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) is calling on presumptive GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) to sign on as a co-sponsor to his GI bill, which would improve educational benefits to veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“McCain needs to get on the bill,” Webb told reporters after a Christian Science Monitor breakfast meeting on Wednesday. He said legislation mirroring the post-World War II GI bill should not be considered a “political issue.”

"McCain needs to get on this bill"

Too late, McCain's already on the dole.

I didn't see much anywhere explaining the bill or showing it's wording. Before passage of such a bill, would it not make more sense to oh I don't know, offer vets medical, rehab and mental support? Don't see any member of either party doing any of that, just words, words and more words.

Bad Grampa! No prune juice for you!

You'd think warmonger McSame would be the first one to sign on but clearly, he has nothing but disdain for the troops. Both Hillary and Barack should be making an issue out of this. Stop giving this doddering old warmonger a free pass.

No, all the folks you mentioned are sockpuppets who are doing exactly what they've been told.

No surprises there.

The pathetic thing here is that Webb a guy of great ability doesn't recognize that he's in the Circus not the Senate.

Be a heck of a thing to see him wake the fuck up and start tearing some new assholes in 'The World's Greatest Deliberative Body'

I don't think so.

Which is why the democrats could run Paulie Schorr and still win in November. McCain hasn't endorsed this bill, and I daresay will not, because he's sold his soul to those who who hold "volunteers" in no uncertain contempt.

I may be ill informed with my following statement, but I don't really remember anything significant McCain has done as a senator these past couple of years other than run campaign for president.

Insane McCain is too busy worrying about the growing evidence that his cherished "Surge" is a flat failure- that no amount of wishful thinking and lying will cover up.

ABC News has just reported that the Iraq Puppet Regime Army is not only being handily defeated by the militias, but Iraqi soldiers are throwing down their (American supplied) arms and running away. Funny, American puppet governments have always had this luck against popular revolts...

It is past time to call John McCain out for the cowardly, lying, corrupt shitheel that he is.

Time to wake up and see what is going on.

The Military Draft

It's coming back and being 26 is not going to help you.

A mandatory draft is coming and it will come soon. Make no mistake about it. If you have a 'specialty' field such as health care worker or even computer skills (such as a degree in computer science), you could be 'drafted' into government service up to the age limit of 44 years old. You will have no choice in the matter as the Presidential Executive Order has already been signed and has become the "law", without the messy annoyance of congressional voting or debate, of course. The new age limit of conscription will also be pushed up to 36 years (update: June 2006. now changed to 42 years ) of age, not 26 years as was the traditional limit. They have now tied in Selective Service Registration with applying for a driver's licence in some 34 states so far.

Haider al-Jabari, a senior Sadr official in the city of Najaf, confirmed the militiamen had been ordered not to lay down their arms, as demanded by Prime Minister Nouri Maliki.

"Sadr has told us not to surrender our arms except to a state that can throw out the [US] occupation.

Money for veterans? The GOP giving money for veterans? Pish posh poppycock. There wouldn't be any left for Bear Stearns.

Screw the troops, McCain is going to worry about getting elected and then he is going to worry about not kicking off before his term is up. This strategy includes kissing fundie ass, a little fearmongering and pretending he is Dubya's clone. He doesn't have time for a GI bill, pppffffft.

Everything in Washington is always political, McCain. You're doing the reverse shuffle on your little water-boarding flip flop too.

It appears that Prime Minister Nouri Maliki's ultimatum to Shiite Muslim militiamen to surrender to the Iraqi government might not be working precisely as he had intended.

When nobody had turned up by Friday, Maliki gave members of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr's Mahdi Army militia 10 more days to turn in their weapons and renounce violence.

Instead, about 40 members of the Shiite-dominated Iraqi army and National Police offered to surrender their AK-47s and other weapons this morning to Sadr's representatives in the cleric's east Baghdad stronghold of Sadr City.

That Verizon Ad says 12.95 per month and first month is free . does that include unlimited warrant less wiretapping and having your email read , by the NSA spy agency . The same as their competitor AT&T , who has an office rigged with system only for the NSA , to use as an open door to tap into email , internet traffic or phone .

A fairly blatant and predictable election year piece of legislation designed to damage a candidate. And a good one too. Once we know who the Dem candidate is expect to see similar base-riling legislation to come from the right.

Thanks!!!

The Updated S.22. Under the updated bill introduced today, service members returning from Iraq or Afghanistan could earn up to 36 months of benefits, equivalent to four academic years. Covered benefits would include the established charges of their program, up to the cost of the most expensive in-state public school; a monthly stipend equivalent to housing costs in their area; and a small stipend per semester for books.

Sounds impressive. Our "military" up here in the great white north actually has it's own education system where you can study while enrolled in the military. Surprised that the US military and it's vast yearly expense don't already have something similar.

Too Late ... John drank from the GOP well, now he is changing as they all do once taking a drink. He can no longer think for himself, he can only follow the words of his NeoCon masters.
He must follow the rules of PNAC.

Apparently it only takes one drink to completely zombiefy a person.
Now poor john just flip-flops on the political beach-head.

Stay the course johnny.

McCain needs to pander to conservatives and conservatives oppose any spending that will not benefit the deserving few at the top of the socio-economic heap.

Really? Apparently this bill is co-sponsored by several Republicans including Senators Coleman, Domenici, Inhofe, and Warner. Not usually the sort whose main goal is damaging a Republican candidate.

Sachem @ 10:

yes!

If McCain added his name to the new GI bill, then that would require work. Has McCain shown up for work anytime recently?

From your keypad to God's ear. Let it be so....

That said, and unfortunately, you are insane. Because the one (perhaps the only) piece of legislation guaranteed to politically radicalize the present generation would be a military draft.

John Amato, keep putting this stuff up on everything McCain is doing. Everything! Nothing is too small. Nobody is making a big deal about it right now but as soon as we have a nominee for our party it will be nice to have this stuff in one place where I can refer to it. The list is getting pretty long to remember it all.

That may be but if you check it out on the web you will see that
it is already done and it is just sitting there in congress and brought in
by a Dem, Taht was the reason it was proposed to put pressure on BUSH
and guess what if he decides to inact it guess who gets the blame.

That's because McCain hasn't been doing his day job. He's missed more than 50% of the votes since he started running for POTUS.

do you have some sources I could read about that. I've been saying that it will happen eventually. I'm surprised it hasn't already.
Maybe then we will see real protests and demonstrations instead of being pushed into "free speech zones." Every time you go to a protest or see a protest or a demonstration the majority of the faces are the middle aged and older who have been fighting these fights for decades. If a draft gets put into place maybe more young people will come out and demonstrate and practice civil disobedience. And please, let them not passively accept the damn free speech zones!

I remember Rengell talking about this a while back, maybe a year ago? 2?

I didn't know he actually put that in though.
I thought it was shelved because no one would touch it.

That's so the people won't get any of it, because that would be "socialism".

McCain needs to get on board fror the veterans, but Webb - after his sell-out of the Constitution and the American people with his FISA vote - needs to get his resumé in order.

Bill O'Relly said he was going to call out anyone in Congress who did not get on board with this new GI bill.

Will BillO be calling out McCain for his lack of support? Or did BillO mean he'd be calling out only the liberals in Congress who might not be on board. BillO has been giving McCain a huge pass while criticizing Obama and Clinton. Is he going to give McCain a pass on this issue too? Inquiring minds want to know.

The only care neocons have for the military is how they can use them to make a few bucks or to protect their cowardly asses! Neocons are pure pond scum!

The bill is not appropriate for military staffing objectives for an all volunteer Army. The math is pretty simple. Webb has his own objectives and higher ambitions.
