Common Cause calls out McCain on Campaign financing
By John Amato Friday Apr 04, 2008 9:15pmGood for Common Cause. (pdf)
McCain is another typical Republican rule breaker. We're not letting up on this most important issue.
Similarly, we are concerned that your recent actions in regard to public funding in the presidential primaries may undermine respect for the federal campaign finance laws, especially the presidential public financing system. Having opted into the system last summer – and having signed a binding certification agreement with the FEC – it is clear to us that you need an FEC vote to allow you to withdraw.

amato, we're all ready to go after mccain, but first the clintons have to take a hike.
why won't you endorse obama?
heck, even the wall street journal's about to make an endorsement for somebody for the first time in 70 years..!
Oh my, a hypocrite in the Republican Party. This can't be. We all know what fine, up-standing citizens the Repugs are. I am truly shocked. God, I need a drink.
The LAW? What do I care for the LAW? Hain't I the power?
Commodore Mc Vanderbilt
Republicans have never seen a law they can't break.(and get away with it)
Correct Sassy. remember Monicagate? The GOP was in a tizzy! Clinton lying under oath! Unspeakable! And now we have Bush. Seems surreal doesn't it?
The Clintons dine with the Bushes who dine with the Bin Ladens.
Edward Rynearson @ 6:
the clintons dine with the bushes, who also apparently dine with not only the bin ladens, but the hinckleys and the nazis. don't take my word, google it.

Thank you, Mr. Amato, for NOT using your excellent site as yet another shill for Obama or Clinton. Let the primary play itself out as it should, without all these two-bit "endorsements" (the WSJ? What a laugh). I have a very strong feeling that when it is finally over, the better candidate will prevail and that better candidate, as EVERYONE knows, is Hillary Clinton.
As for McCain and his problems with the FEC, he'll weasel out of his pledge just like he weasels out of everything else. The man, very old and very infirm, is not only a weasel but a consummate flip-flopper (everytime I see him, I think of those guys standing in front of Kerry with their flip-flops clapping for the teevee). Thankfully, Frank Rich stopped shilling for Obambi in order, finally, to attack this white-haired, cancerous, racist bastard. Well, at least it's the NYT. Let's hope it's the awakening of the MSM waking up to him. But don't hold your breath.
George Patterson @ 8:
one thing i've noticed with hillary clinton supporters is that many of you seem more inclined to make these bold, blanket "prophetic" claims, such as "she WILL win" or that "EVERYONE knows" hillary's the better candidate.
i don't know what it is, but i'm automatically mistrustful of any @$$ who thinks he or she is nostradamus, especially in the wake of 8 years of hearing dogmatic neocons tell me all about "destiny" and "prophecy".
you really remind me of the neocons who think they can shape reality simply by voicing their desires repeatedly.
that $#!+ might have worked for dorothy in the "wizard of oz", but here in the real world you clinton supporters sound like a bunch of gypsy snake oil salesmen.
(sorry to disenfranchise the american gypsy vote, but i had to get that off my chest).

Scrapiron @ 9:
what are you complaining about? mccain will, in all likelihood, have ample opportunity to state his case for the neocon agenda, as will all of the other towering intellects of his movement.
before a judge at the hague, that is.
Be careful what you wish for...
Who do you wish the neocons/theocrats/right wingnuts to replace him with?
(And you know they are chomping at the bit to lose this tired soldier.)
Would you want him replaced by some popular cheerleader like Reagan or Bush?
I'll take my chances with a known liar, flip flopper, and rule breaker...
(con't)
...to run against.
Hey, we could get romney. that's a step up, eh?
Scrapiron @ 10:
Yeah, those darn lawsuits. Like Bush v. Gore?
Forget that that vast majority of suits are filed by corporations against people. Forget that corporate welfare payments more than quintuple welfare payments to people (or that the current welfare state is the result of a Clinton/Gingrich agreement).
I'm hoping you're one of those with inherited wealth and earning well in excess of 250K a year, because otherwise your just a mindless tool. But somehow I doubt the former. Why? Just a wild guess.
Is McCain's book tour being counted as a campaign contribution by the publisher?
fiver @ 15:
i'm pretty sure scrapiron's actually a pretty good guy, he just needs a little help removing his head from his arse.
Yeah, those darn lawsuits. Like Bush v. Gore?
The case should not have even been heard because bush didn't even have standing to sue, he wasn't a citizen of Florida.
bullfrog @ 17:
That's not going to help. I'm sure he would be against that medical malpractice suit as well.
fiver @ 19:
*sigh*
you're probably right. just thought i'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
i mean, even ernst stavro blofeld was nice to his fluffy, white kitty cat.
even lord vader got one thing right before he kicked the can.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld? Had to Google that one, and I thought I was a Bond fan.
Who's Lord Vader? :-)
could we please hear it for JOHN "THE REPUBLICAN" MCCAIN
please refer to him in all such blogs and stories-----
-------his handlers are so trying to keep his name apart from his party
IT'S HIS PARTY AND HE'LL CRY IF I WANT HIM TO
McCain lying? A republicain? Oh gawd, get me a drink and a few young lobbyists.
What are the GOP and John McCain hiding from the American public? McCain will not publish his and his wife's Tax returns or his health records?
Corruption? Is he in bed with certain Lobbyists? Cancer? What?
P.D. @ 2:
I gave up drinking about 40 years ago, but todays politrics are making me real thirsty.
