Mark Penn Out, Sort Of...

The Nation got the scoop:

A terse statement from campaign manager Maggie Williams says:

After the events of the last few days, Mark Penn has asked to give up his role as Chief Strategist of the Clinton Campaign; Mark, and Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates, Inc. will continue to provide polling and advice to the campaign. Geoff Garin and Howard Wolfson will coordinate the campaign's strategic message team going forward.

Well hoody hoo.

The photos of Hillary and Penn are of two baby boomers.

Baby boomers stand to be screwed by baby boomers.

Next!

out with Penn, in with Pencil Dick (Rove)?

Quick! See if Bob Shrum is available!

About friggin' time.

Lets change his job title... that should get 'em off our backs.

Too little too late! He did too much damage...it is Obama's nomination to lose at this point.

Out with the old in with the ,,,wtf?

crazy season this election yr. But then again lets look at the assclowns in the whitehouse, that alone defines crazy!

Oh and HELLO C&L folks :) !

and the new boss, will be the same as the old boss. to actually change full, wouldn't she have to fire herself?

"The Nation got the scoop"? good news travels fast!

I guess Hillary has decided she doesn't need any help making up stories.

This is a good move. But imagine if no one had found out about the Penn-Uribe connection? What if no one knew? This would have just gone on. The Clinton-Uribe deal would have continued. Hillary needs to come out and explain her differences between her and Penn.

If this is what it takes to get her shit together, I'm for it.

Free Sidney Scooter III @ 4:

Rove is waaaaaaaaaay to busy with the Obama campaign.

....and this makes everything all better. Hillary's a shining beacon of clean campaigning now.

abarts @ 15:

If this is what it takes to get her shit together, I'm for it.

Amen.....I sure wish this had happened much sooner. As for his being advisor....don't think that will happen.

HIllary's using Drudge for her leaks now. Why not Rove as chief strategist and backstabber, now that Penn's out?

Drudge...now, there's a reliable source......heh

As an Obama supporter, this is a very dark day.

Makes Hillary's campaign 3% less-evil...

...no change in grossness level.

Another faux pas for Hillary. Does she want to win the nomination? She seems to be constantly shooting herself in the foot. Or putting her foot in her mouth.

Penn is leaving to spend more time with his Rove...

I would never have suspected he was gay.

Have any of you considered the fact that the Clinton campaign has a few money problems, perhaps Penn and associates hasn't been paid?

Maybe Penn just couldn't tell his clients apart...

One is a vast organization of shady agendas, political threats, embedded corruption and false populism;

The other makes cocaine.

Easy mistake.

Ron ive considerd that $$$ isint a factor for any running canidate. I believe its a ? of staying in it to make sure the vote is split and well the republicans weasle in john MccccccAIn!! And speaking of money donations, there are ppl in the states straving and this is by most the $$$$$ Pre election run up ever. If ppl cant support thier fellow neighbor whos house was destroyed by fire or ? but can shove mad amounts of money up a canidates ass , what does that tell you about the general overall public? hey sorry it happend sucks to be you, move, i have to donate to ?? But getting back to hill and Obie,,its making alot of expats here in europe sick and rather ashamed of the actions by both sides. End the bitch fest already , but it cant and wont. Its about one group of ppl not wanting a white bitch in the white house and another group of ppl who dont want a n****r in the white house either. sue me, its what ive heard from folks to NYS right on down to texas . Truth hurts huh?

Of course there is that old back door sneak tactic ,, The dems can say piss of hill and Obie and just give it to GORE!
finaly. and let him pick the best running mate should Gore take the offer. GORE PLEASE END THIS GAME!!!

So Mark Penn has lost a title, but otherwise nothing has changed here.

Is this a flashback to when Howard Dean threw Joe Trippy under the bus?

Mark Penn is no more out than Hillary at this point.
7 Unions sent her a missive yesterday chastising her for not doing something about Penn and now today he is gone BUT still advising....Clinton and her 3 card monty are at it again. Her Oz will just stand behind a curtain while he pulls the strings.

I seriously hope she follows up with a good bye to James Carville, Sandy Berger, and Terry McCauliffe. It's sad to think some Democrats are working hard to elect a woman president, only to provide power cables for these guys.

Anyone other than a few of us out here in netland notice that Clinton has REALLY been trying to stay at the forefront of the news since 4:00 friday when her tax records were released? Lied about Obama and her stance in the war, screaming like an insane monkey that the popular vote must count in FL. and MI. and she full well knows that this election does not count the popular vote but the sound bites make it to the news and blogs, Penn out but not really.....seems like she really wnats that tax info to not be headlined come Monday morning.....

So Hillary now claims that changing your job title while staying on the campaign staff now = "resigning"?

Um - no. That would be a LIE.

And I shall bid you all a goodnight and even better tomorow as well. Thank you C&L for allowing my posts here and for a decent blog that is fair and honest.

Best Regards,,

increasingly astonishing that any liberals still support clinton, considering how her difficulty with truth and her weakness for money and lobbyists is so much like the republicans.....

if so many people really do support clinton, i suppose bush's two terms aren't such a mystery....

not even the dems are paying attention.....they pick their person, and that's it, hell or high water, bribes, lies, whatever, they're sticking with em....

She is trying to make those Unions happy so lets just hope they see through this resignation that really isn't a resignation at all.

Penn is the one that doesn't talk, right?

Or is that Teller?

Rozencrantz. Guildenstern. Whatever.

Seriously - Hilary is being forced to run a campaign that she wasn't ready for. If she can't pull this together on the fly how can she run the country?

Williams' statement appears to indicate that Penn voluntarily resigned as "has asked" indicates. The Clinton campaign did not say that he "was asked" which would mean that they did not want him to leave.

I am assuming that the Clinton campaign is telling the truth about this event which could be erroneous.

Hillary expected this to be over by Feb. 5 and so did her advisors. My bigger concern is with her telling evreyone what they want to hear but not be honest about it. Penn isn't out.
As for not being able to run this campaign, she has never had to actually had to work in her life....let alone run a country. She knows the back street dealers and she knows the political insiders and she knows how to make money off the backs of the American public.
Look at their donations to "charity". Went straight into an account she and Bill control and it wasn't until she decided to run for President that they finally gave any away. 220,000. out of 10 million over the last 7 years went to actual charity....Until 2007 when they gave 3 million away......the Clintons are nothing but drama looking for a place to happen. Makes one wonder just what their parents were breeding for????

WHY would anyone assume that Clinton was telling the truth??????Have you not been watching the news for the last 2 weeks? 3 lies in that time frame alone.

It's all about the $$$$$. Gotta get my (big) piece of the pie. Screw the rest of ya!

Mark Penn got the biggest piece of the pie. Over 10 million dollars since this thing started while the small vendors around the country have had to take her court to get paid. I am honestly shocked that she has any supporters, who aren't looking to make money off her, still voting for her! She lies, she's a deadbeat and she has no ability to put together a team that is able to do anything other than fight.

good riddance!

Did Mark Penn successfully dodge the sniper fire from Columbia? http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/05/colombia-to-penn-youre-fired/

Columbia wanted a free trade deal and hilary's campaign needs money....hmm what was Penn up to I wonder? NOT.

Ah, the always triangulatin' Hillary. Cutting every corner, shaving every nuance, playing for any advantage. Trading influence, undermining her "own" causes.

Trust me, she said. And every thinking person on the planet laughed till they 'sploded.

After the events of the last few days, Mark Penn has asked to give up his role as Chief Strategist of the Clinton Campaign

So .. what exactly are the "events of the last few days"?

Penn was doing PR for the Colombian Government .. pushing the "Free Trade" agreement that sHillary "officially" opposes ..

He recently met with a Colombian Government official and got nailed for it by the Unions who currently support sHillary.

In response to their complaints, he apologized for meeting with the official (while he's working on sHillary's campaign, not for working for the Colombian "Free Trade Agreement") saying that it was an "error in judgment."

The Colombians issued an indignant statement, blasting Penn for dismissing his meeting with them as an "error in judgment."

One news source says the Colombians have fired him!

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

I would suspect even her diehard supporters have been having a tough time keeping track of all the "truths" coming from her campaign. At least when it's all over and done with, she can write a big book about how she went from overwhelming frontrunner, to loser in such dramatic style. I cannot fathom what kind of mess this woman's presidency would have been.

Has anyone seen a poll asking Hillary's supporters:

If Obama wins the Democratic nomination, will you:
(1) Vote for Obama for President in the General Election?
(2) Vote for McCain for President in the General Election?
(3) Not vote for President in the General Election?
(4) Vote for (fill in the blank) ..

I'm hoping this question is enough on-topic that it doesn't get scrubbed ..

Gergen verified she was against it and said they had more dirt on Obama.

Hillary Clinton strategist quits amid Colombia trade flap

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Reuters) - The top campaign strategist to Sen. Hillary Clinton, under fire for his meeting with a Colombian diplomat to discuss a free trade deal that the presidential candidate opposes, quit his post on Sunday, the campaign said.
..

The Penn controversy prompted an angry reaction from Colombia, which took offense when he called the meeting "an error in judgment."

The Colombian Embassy in Washington said it was ending its contract with Burson-Marsteller, which it hired a year ago.

Well I'm surprised by all this. I thought we already had a free trade agreement with Colombia. The U.S. is free to destabilize Latin America using bases in Colombia, while Colombia is free to export cocaine to the U.S. I believe I read recently that coke has never been cheaper and easier to get on the streets of U.S. cities. Guess I gave it up too early back in the 80's, when it still sold at a premium.

And cheaper cocaine in the U.S. is actually good for the nation's health since people who would otherwise be buying crystal meth can now afford blow. Should also reduce the number of trailer explosions in rural areas and make it easier to find cough syrup at the local drug store.

About 8 weeks ago I was about to donate to Clinton. But I said to my self, "what's with that jag, Mark Penn"? I thought she should dump his ass. Anyway I did not donate. I saved my money. Will donate for Obama when the time is ripe.

Should have dropped him when they lost Iowa. Penn is really the guy to blame for this horribly run campaign. Where was she earlier? She really has no chance now anyway.

If his firm is still doing the polling, that means Penn is still being paid by Clinton, which means this is all just for show.

Much like the rest of her campaign to date....

Rambo Clinton is against the Columbian free trade agreement ( and NAFTA ) and she had no idea what Penn was doing or what he's about ! Yes and she WAS dodging sniper fire in Bosnia , in fact she she dove into a fox hole , grabbed a bazooka from a Marine and took out the sniper . Rambo Rocky Clinton , what a woman !

Just thought this was appropriate as many have already mentioned the Bosnia sniper incident. Hillary's Call of Duty

Yes I admit, I'm not that big of a fan of my senator and I actually voted for her primary opponent in the 2006 senate primary. I will also admit that I have reservations about Barrack as well. McCain, meh, lost respect for him a long time ago.

We are all just pissing in the wind.

I comment on a few websites and I feel my itch has been scratched. I lose a bit of steam and I slip back once more into humdrum societal servitude.
I believe that proper face to face meetings are the only way to get a good head of steam built up; that might power some kind of movement that surely is inevitable and worthwhile. As it stands the undercurrent of resentment is still refusing to flare up and demand the necessary changes in world resource management, population control, and weapon disarmament that are also inevitable and, unfortunately, very painful.
If you REALLY scratch that itch, think up new and imaginative ways to show those around you the reality of Humanity's situation, in a peaceful and well meaning manner.
I doubt that anyone reads this far down by now.

Well anyhow, itch scratched!

The bigger question is what does it say about Hillary that she would hire the CEO of Burson-Marsteller in the first place?

Especially when Burson-Marsteller's lobbying subsidiary is headed up by.... John McCain's top adviser.

NOTE: You may also know Burson-Marsteller for their wonderful work with the nuclear company Entergy, which completely mismanaged the Indian Point nuclear plant in upstate NY. Entergy spent $200,000 to oppose a citizen campaign to close that dangerous plant, which the terrorists, flew directly over on 9/11, and had they hit it, would have turned the entire eastern seaboard into a wasteland for the next 4.5 billion years, and killed millions.

They also represent cigarette makers Philip Morris and Brown & Williamson of "The Insider" fame (now owned by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company).

They were also instrumental in the Shrub's campaign to steal the Presidency.

Basically, they are the PR Firm from Hell.

Any campaign with a top advisor nicknamed "Schlumbo" ain't going too well.

The only conflict of interest was the timing of the news that Mr. Penn was representing the gov't of Colombia in pushing for the passage of CAFTA vs. Hill's campaign noise about being for workers, against the NAFTA she campaigned for in the '90's, blah-blah. The conflict of interest was the brief exposure of truth in her campaign, an exposure not controlled by the Clinton Campaign for their purposes. Penn's a faux-sacrifice on the Clinton's altar.

With all the republican infrastructure in her campaign and all the ties to McAint, how can hillary be a democratic candidate.
