The US is now in open combat with the Mahdi Army.

Blogging's worth the risk, since ya' still can't trust the MSM:

Here's the Real Final ‘Straw’ That Broke Mark Penn’s Back

One thing that astounds me is how rarely it is mentioned that US-funded contractors in Iraq are about as numerous as US troops. We hear all the time about the 140K to 160K troops, and never hear that the real number of US forces is TWICE that, if you include the private contractors.

That's astounding.

It costs a lot more to do it that way, but reduces the domestic (US) resistance to the occupation. Ask folks how they feel about their tax dollars funding a quarter of a million people in an occupation, and see how many are FOR it.

Imagine a true referendum on the US occupation of Iraq.

The poor have to settle for leftover medicine. Atlantic City is cutting down on freebies. We're in a lose-lose situation.

two best links i found this weekend:

vader sessions

college of coaches

(and don't get me wrong, i'm a huge fan of both the chicago cubs and star wars).

Blue Gal: Thanks for the great laugh on this sad night. It was good medicine!

Given the performance of the MSM the past 8 years, if blogging kills MSM, I say hurry up.

"Laborers" lol

The MSM won't report much about the contractors because if they did, the public would be more outraged about the cost than anything else. I don't know if the cost of the contractors is even figured in as the part of the funding or is separate funding. We do know that they have contracted for billions up until now, but where does the money come from. I'll bet that it's not out of the funding for the occupation.

made me laugh.

So on a different board, I keep reading comments about how Moore didn't respect Heston's privacy or condition, and yet every time I bring up how Heston showed little respect to the privacy of the Columbine families, they keep ignoring me.

L O L ... aaah, that was wonderful...

hope randi liked it as much!

The NYT things blogging is dangerous?

They obviously haven't been trapped in a men's room stall with David Brooks and Billy Kristol.

Thanks for the laugh, Blue Gal!

If it's true that bloggers are experiencing stress, there's a simple explanation.

Bloggers, who have relatively little amounts of economic resources, have to MAKE UP FOR THE FAILURES OF MSM.

Bloggers are as popular as they are because they tend to produce FACTUAL and INVESTIGATIVE reports.

The MSM just reprints White House memos and specially selected reports that advance destructive agendas, and then they call THAT news. People are not stupid, and if the MSM won't report the real news, then bloggers will.

Geez, it's like the MSM has this permanent aura of self-righteousness entitlement, where they think they belong to this "upper class" of news reporting, and how they are more "official" because they are physically closer to policy makers, and they maintain this arrogance even as they are experiencing a slow death because of their own inadequacy.

You know, I don't like to wish bad things on people, but if the MSM dies completely, I truly hope that they realize that they were told, for almost 8 years on a constant basis from the public, to tell the truth. That's all we ever wanted. We didn't want lies, sugar coatings, or propaganda. Just the truth. They knew this, but they did not care, because they felt more important than truth just because they were so close to the government, a body that makes truth less popular than the plague.

This is not the first "attack" on bloggers, the REAL truth tellers in this country. I remember the MSM produced a piece that warned of internet "addiction", which is code-speak for "stop reading blogs and watch TV instead". Idiots.

They better not ever say they didn't know any better.

On 60 Minutes tonight, Douglas Feith was interviewed about his new book, which continues the "Loyal Bushies" pattern of telling America that even though the war has been a total disaster, they would still invade Iraq because it was "the right thing to do™".

Anyway, at the end of the interview, Feith mentions that all of the proceeds from his book are going to war veterans.

Call me cynical, but if some intrepid blogger (because the MSM won't do it) were to investigate this claim, something tells me that Feith won't actually be giving much money to veterans. Perhaps it's the fact that most of these Chickenhawk Administration officials never tell the truth about anything?

At least I'm not the only one who thinks like this:
http://www.first-draft.com/2008/04/debunking-dougl.html

Being East-Indian myself, wouldn't have never though I would see a clip of bollywood on C&L, nicely done, especially about Randi Rhodes [my favourite talk show host]

First they have to cover the cost ofprinting, publishing and distribution of the book. I don't know of many people buying right winger books. The war vets get nothing.

No luck for lower oil prices.

Do you feel like you've been raped yet? The fascists are reaping the benefits, for now.

i hope jimmy carter endorses obama this week.

for that matter, it'd be nice to see a walter cronkite obama endorsement.

GNA.

nsr @ 1:

The US is now in open combat with the Mahdi Army.

So it seems that another cease fire has fallen through. This is just another indication that the so called "surge" was nothing more than a farce as if everyone didn't know that already. What this latest bout of fighting will bring clearer into focus though is General Cody's recent Congressional testimony regarding U.S. ground forces readiness. The U.S. simply lacks actual combatant forces now (I.E. infantry, armor, artillery) to deploy elsewhere due to its current commitments around the globe.

Everyone thinks that the U.S. military and its branches of service are composed of nothing but combatants.  That simply is not the case.  Most, are support troops who are only active combatants as a last resort.  The actual MOSs who's only job is to close with and destroy the enemy are in serious short supply.

of course the times, which will find itself out of the newspaper biz in 5-10 years would print a story saying that blogging is dangerous to your health

fuck....sometimes you gotta get up from the puter and get some excercise

one more thing b4 i hit the hay:

now that it's april, be glad you or your kids aren't ever gonna have to live through another full winter under neocon jackboot rule as long as you live.

BWAHAHAH! The NY Times has really begun to post some seriously stupidific shit. Did you know that *not* blogging can kill you to? Shit, I could sit here and watch TV and READ blogs and die!!! Switchboard: Hello, Crisis Center. How can I help you?
Caller: Yes, I need an ambulance.
Switchboard: Is this an emergency?
Caller: I just got home from a weekend at my brother in laws.
Switchboard: Excuse me?
Caller: He painted nascar numbers on his kitchen chairs.
Switchboard: So why are you calling the Crisis Center today?
Caller: He thinks Glenn Beck is an intellectual.
Switchboard: Well that is funny but how can we help you?
Caller: His kids have drawings of Jesus with dinosaurs as farm animals on the fridge.
Switchboard: Well as disturbing as all that is how can we help you?
Caller: His daughter is 7 months pregnant and hasn’t seen a doctor yet.
Switchboard: Perhaps family counselling. Can I connect you?
Caller: My husband invited them for a week this summer.
Switchboard: I’m sending an ambulance right over. Please stay on the line.

Ouch my frigging my ankle hurts. I knew that bartop was too wet to dance on.
When I got home and looked in on mom and Dad both fast asleep, mom still had her new pearls on. As I tried to gently unclasp and slip them off without waking her she suddenly and without warning grabbed my wrists and shouted “your not getting these Vicky” then smiled and went right back to sleep.
I can only imagine she is referring to my aunt Vicky who I only knew for a couple of years while mom was sick. She taught me how to shop.
Sweet dreams little gray ones. Being first blond is going to be awesome.

Newspapers were originally like blogs: extremely slanted to the publisher's viewpoint.
Political blogs need to evolve from partisan spin machines into more balanced news providers.

"Democratic talk of an early, hard-hitting campaign to "define" and tar Arizona Sen. John McCain appears to have fizzled for lack of money, leading to a quiet round of finger-pointing among Democratic operatives and donors . . . . Despite the millions of dollars pooling around Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton, anti-McCain funds have fallen far short of the hopes set in November, when a key organizer, Tom Matzzie, reportedly told The Washington Post that the 'Fund for America' would raise more than $100 million to support the activities of a range of allied groups. I think it was shameful how Wayne LaPierre and NRA leaders used Heston knowing that he was not all there for their own gains.
How much does W.P. make from NRA members anyway?

Friends in America, Many ex-pat communities here are buzzing with disturbing news that it looks like McCain has a good chance of winning the Pres Election.
Say it isn't so!
Is this the real feel for what is going on over there? Please fill me in. Word is that he is more organized than the Democrats on the issues.
Our little neighborhood of about 150 American Ex-Pats here in Chiang Mai have almost to a house, put out signs in front of our homes, placards for either Clinton or Obama (about 75% are for Obama). Is not this the same feeling as back there? Do people have signs out on their lawns or front window voicing their political wish?
It would be sad to think that that at such a crucial election time that apathy and lethargy can exist.
Please tell me people are wearing their affiliation on their sleeves (so to speak).

Global temperatures for 2008 will be slightly cooler than last year as a result of the cold La Nina current in the Pacific
Mr Scaife told the BBC: "What's happened now is that La Nina has come along and depressed temperatures slightly but these changes are very small compared to the long-term climate change signal, and in a few years time we are confident that the current record temperature of 1998 will be beaten when the La Nina has ended."

The key point for me is that unlike Gore -- and unlike Clinton and Obama -- McCain doesn't support the policies needed to successfully address catastrophic climate change without devastating the economy (and without an absurd over-reliance on nuclear power).
See...McBush...'the maverick'...will 'use' the green revolution in a way that decimates the economy...to 'prove the con-servative' mantra that renewables & sustainables will 'hurt the economy' for which there is zero evidence or credibility...just ask UK, Germany, Finland, Norway, etc, etc...

Bush/GOP Economy Just Keeps Getting Worse -- What's Next? - http://jobsanger.blogspot.com/2008/04/economy-just-keeps-getting-worse.html
Gas and food prices are at record high levels. Housing starts have dropped by 36% and foreclosures are at a record level. Over a million more people will lose their homes this year. Food banks can't keep up with the ever-increasing demand. Bush keeps telling us the economy is strong -- that we're just experiencing a little downturn and everything will be alright. After everyone gets their $600 checks, they'll run out and spend and the economy will bounce back. I'm beginning to think the man is a simpleton.

NAFTA Makes Rich Richer, Poor and Middle Class Poorer - http://winnipeg.indymedia.org/item.php?13245S
If you read any Canadian newspaper, you’ve been treated to the same refrain: NAFTA has been good for Canada. It has led to economic growth and jobs for Canadians. And given that it’s been so wonderful for Canada, the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) could only make things better, right?
