And how many dead Iraqis?

Can we pry the gun out of Heston's hands NOW?

Oh man, that seems harsh even for me.

It's interesting that former liberal and civil rights champion Charlton Heston became an ultra-conservative Republican gun wacko only AFTER Alzheimer's Disease had destroyed his brain. I think nature is trying to tell us something.

His will provides that he's to be buried with his gun collection!

Rusty's quite the little tough guy, isn't he?

I can't say that I'm shedding any tears over Heston. He could have used his fame and wealth to support so many worthy causes instead of protecting things that destroy lives. What a thing to be remembered for.

So at his essence Heston was a liberal civil rights champion who fell victim to alzheimers... and lost his way.

All the more reason for Michael Moore to be ashamed of himself for his low-blow tactic in BFCB

Riiiiiiiiight. Blame Michael Moore for going after a guy who would show up in cities and towns immediately following gun massacres to talk up gun ownership to stricken communities. Nothing low on Heston's part there.

Actually he became a pro-gun activist and right-wing supporters sometimes in the late 70's, early 80's. There is a picture of Heston hanging out with his love buddy Ronald Reagan. I don't agree with Heston's politics but he was a FINE actor! Farewell, Ben-Hur!

Heston did not show up in Denver after Columbine and talk up gun ownership. The convention cancelled every event, except a dinner. When you listen to Michael Moore, that when you have problems with facts and when things happened.

"...But NRA leaders decided that their show must go on just 15 miles from the scene of the shooting, despite repeated requests from Denver Mayor Wellington Webb that they cancel their annual meeting. Though it modified and shrunk the size and scope of its event, the NRA's annual meeting of members occurred as scheduled, starting Saturday at 10 a.m.

But here in Denver, the presence of guns, or at least their effects, could be felt long before NRA president Charlton Heston began his opening remarks..."

Really? They had dinner at 10 am?

Show me YOUR source

With the Bush admin in power i'd want a gun too, to protect myself from those bastards, they're just a few steps away from being fully fledged nazis.

I was much more sadened to hear of Richard Widmark’s passing than Heston’s! Widmark was a genuine humanitarion. He Played the bad guy in his first films but could be almost anyone.

In Joseph Mankiewicz's No Way Out (1950) he gave a typical, menacing account of a bigoted petty criminal so moved by the death of his brother in hospital that he tries to blame the black doctor (Sidney Poitier in his first film) and in so doing nearly provokes a race riot. Widmark, impeccably liberal on the subject of race in his private life, apologised to Poitier at the end of every filming session.
Unlike Heston, he disliked guns.
R.I.P. old friend!

good a few less guns kicking around.

Ten more families destroyed by the buschCo. What a crying shame. Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives and children left with a hole in their hearts. Friends nevermore. Nice going chimp.

We have to put a stop to this senseless and wasteful death and destruction. Damn bush/cheney and all the other enablers. I hope they have nightmares about all the death and destruction they are responsible for. I couldn't handle it myself.

Shame on us.

The story of Dith Pran and the Killing Fields is one of the most amazing stories I have ever heard.

Bye Charlton, great movies, mean spirited and willfully ignorant politics

Does anybody know the title or composer of the music that's played during the "in memoriam"? It gives me chills every week-- I'd like to try and find it.

Also, this week, Tom Lewis, of the Catonsville Nine, passed away.

A GREAT ACTOR... A MISERABLE HUMAN BEING...
PRETTY MUCH EVENS OUT...

REAGAN.... a crappy actor (played supporting role to BONZO the chimp) and A MISERABLE HUMAN BEING

BUSH.... he is BONZO and A MISERABLE HUMAN BEING

----before you go blaming ALZHEIMERS.... he was a prick before his mind was gone.....
OR ARE WE SAYING that the NRA had a delusional alzheimers victim as their leader ???

FAVoRite Charlton Heston quote:

"I fear the mud pits have stiffened my knees, your Royal one."

the man's dead. He made some terrific movies and kept a generation entertained. it was sad when i learned of his conservative leanings and his need to stump for the NRA. It was as sad as when i learned of Stallones' right wing leanings, or Arnie's or Norris', but hell they were or are actors, as people no better no worse than most of us. I chalk this one up to just another hollywood hero down the tubes. I went from idolizing the actor to despising him when put on his republican robe. because he is dead does not change what he stood for in life. He was a conservative who may have at one time been a liberal, but he died a conservative. Those who would espouse the same mantra, beware. When your time comes you're going to have to answer to someone.
