Laura Ingraham Soothes BillO's Tortured Soul
A noted philosophe on all things gender related, (remember when she called Brett Favre "a woman" for tearing up at his retirement announcement?) Laura Ingraham was drafted onto the O'Reilly Factor to explain the Elton John thing to the confused host. Poor BillO apparently needed reassurance from Laura Ingraham that misogyny in America is, um, all in Elton John's head?

Laura: (smiling) Uh, no I don't Bill, you know, I think men and women are different, we have different challenges, and uh, so forth.
Bill O: And you haven't been, uh, held back because of your gender, because talk radio is dominated by idiots like me, white guys.
Hmm, why doesn't Laura bring up that conservative talk radio is dominated by not only the settled-out-of-court sexual harasser hosting her, but another idiotic white guy, Limbaugh, who is an alleged sex tourist and noted Viagra smuggler? And misogyny? Who's taking her to task on The Factor about her own stupid, misogynistic comments? What, she's blinded by O'Reilly's charming masculinity? Really.

Laura Ingraham is nearly as well known for posing in a leopard print mini-skirt for a 1995 New York Times Magazine cover story on young right-wingers as she is for her seething hatred of “Elites” and her grueling struggle against the oppressive liberal media. Strangely enough, this oppressive liberal media seems to be failing miserably at keeping her down. Also unclear is where this sassy pundette developed her extreme distaste for the Elites, having herself grown up in posh Glastonbury, CT.
Ingraham got her start in journalism at Dartmouth, where she was the first female editor of the ultra-conservative Dartmouth Review. Already tarnished by its reputation for bigoted, homophobic, and sexist reportage, Ingraham took the Review to new levels when she secretly taped meetings of the campus Gay Students Association, sent copies of the tapes to participants’ parents.
Ingraham worked briefly as a White House speechwriter for President Reagan before heading to law school at the University of Virginia. After graduation, she quickly rose to a job in conservative heaven, clerking for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. As a member of the ANTI-feminist Independent Women’s Forum, Ingraham assisted the “Women for Judge Thomas” campaign that supported her future boss’s appointment to the Supreme Court and promoted attacks on Anita Hill.
In search of a more visible professional field, and capitalizing on the new vogueishness of young right-wingers, Ingraham went to work simultaneously for both CBS as a commentator on the nightly news and for MSNBC as a regular pundit. She was neither a careful thinker nor a knowledgeable analyst, but her youthful vigor, pretty face, and outlandish observations made her a television success.
Today, Ingraham is best known for her nationally syndicated radio show broadcast on 325 stations across the country. Remarkably, she has garnered quite an audience, made up of what she calls “true Americans,” who according to Ingraham are “White, Southern, Christian, and Republican.” For four hours each day, they subject themselves to Ingraham’s sophomoric humor, her rambling tales about her dog, her epic search for a husband, and of course, her endless rants and raves condemning the evil Elites, the evil U.N., and the evil Europeans.
Ingraham remains a steadfast defender of the Bush administration’s most disastrous and failed policies. In late 2004, when 380 tons of explosives were discovered missing from a munitions site in Iraq, Ingraham was among several conservative pundits to blame the troops and not the Pentagon.
In response to the suggestion of Today show host Katie Couric that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld apologize or resign in the wake of the Abu Ghraib scandal, Ingraham said: “How about Matt and Katie apologize for that lame show they put on every day?”
She is, without question, the most mean-spirited person in media, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannnity, a distant tie for second place.

I'm a little confused here. Is this post an attempt to validate what Elton John said by pointing to the fringes (who thankfully are not a majority) of misogynists?
Much as I used to like Elton John back in the Bernie Taupin days, I have to take issue with what he said, especially in the context of blaming his perceived misogyny for Hillary being so behind in the primaries. It seems to only further the perception that she's a victim, which both she and Pres Clinton love to throw out for sympathy.
Could the fact that she's behind have anything to do with who she is and how her campaign has been run and NOT because she's a woman? Just asking.
As I said, I don't quite get the point here.

I'm not trying to validate or invalidate what Elton John said. Bill O asked a GENERAL question about whether a misogynistic society exists and while that is a wide statement, that these two conservative talk radio hosts can smile and coo and say there is no misogyny is as much a joke as an attractive blonde (who says whatever BillO wants her to) getting on his show because of her in-depth analysis. Does BillO ever pay attention or does he just make shit up? Elton John did not say America is misogynistic. He said, "I never cease to be amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some people in this country". Note the use of SOME people.
And if BillO thinks there are not SOME people out there with misogynistic attitudes, then he (and Ingraham) are in some sick kind of denial.

Perhaps, surviving cancer completely dried up Ingraham's emotional well, leaving her unsympathetic to those not as "tough" as her. When my mother (a vivacious, talkative soul who regularly "held court" at family gatherings, as my brother and I liked to joke, shut down emotionally and socially upon the news of the cancer that eventually killed her. Her close friends remarked upon this at the funeral. She was a force who became a living ghost.
Was Ingraham this big a jerk prior to her cancer? I'm obviously a jerk for bringing this up (yes, Mr. Oreilly, I know that) but I feel the same may hold true for McCain: not that his confinement and torture left him deranged, as Rove and co. once insinuated. Rather, that enduring such extreme mistreatment perhaps left McCain unsympathetic to the lesser sufferings of others in a nation that gave up on the cause for which he and his comrades payed dearly. (yes mr. liberal outrage, I know the Vietnamese payed a higher price...I was against that war too.)

I don't think it's fair to call Limbaugh a misogynist for his sex trip to The D.R. After all, him being a republican scumbag and D.R. being what it is - he was probably buying sex with teenage boys.

While traveling in the country where I could only get AM radio, I heard Ingram comment on Obama's race speech and she compared her "struggles"as a woman in radio with racial discrimination. She said there is no more racial discrimination, and then went on to talk about how tough it had been to break into radio........Yup, same thing.
