McCain Caught in Another Gaffe by the Army Times: Confused over Petraeaus
By SilentPatriot Monday Apr 14, 2008 2:00pmI know General Petraeus is some God-like figure among some on the right, but it's hard to ask a man to do something he has absolutely no authority to do. The Army Times catches McCain in his latest foreign policy gaffe.
McCain reveals confusion over Petraeus role:
"Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain of Arizona may not have been paying the closest of attention last week during hearings on the Bush administration’s Iraq policy."
“I would not do that unless Gen. [David] Petraeus said that he felt that the situation called for that,” McCain said, referring to the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
[... ]Petraeus said the decision about whether troops could be shifted from Iraq to Afghanistan was not his responsibility because his portfolio is limited to the multi-national force in Iraq.
How many more of these will it take before the press starts questioning McCain's so-called "foreign policy expertise"?

Why doesn't the GOP just nominate Petraeus already?
He McCaint never gonna get it.
I give McLame an "F" on the Commander-in-Chief test.
How many times has this guy failed the CIC test?
How many flip flops?
I can't keep up but would make a great ad.
Is mccain suffering from the same illiness as saint ronnie?
Say, Petraeus is the Unitary Commander, McPain's latest revision of laws 'n stuff.
Well thanks god he didn't say some people are "bitter". Then the cable news folks would be all atwitter for days and days.
Doesn't McOops serve on the armed services committee? Shouldn't he know these things already.
Don't question his foreign policy experience, question whether there's a family history of Alzheimer's in his geneolgy.
zzzzzzzzzz...Uh,umm ah..., ummm...,I know...., uh..,bomb,bomb ,bomb,bomb, bomb, Iran....
Oh,boy, another preznit that perfectly represents Amurika.
They're NOT ALLOWED to question McCain's Foreign Policy experience.
The Kingmakers have selected McCain. He's their guy.
How long before the Press cries "Alzheimer's" or "reduced bloodflow to the brain" or "STUPID!"
the press eats bbq'd mcbutt, so why spoil a good meal for themselves.
the truth is not important when you support a repig.
don't expect the press to be fair for this election either.
To call Chimpy McSame a joke is too kind to McCain, and an insult to jokes.
pissed off patricia @ 7:
I`M BITTER.Another your years of " less than human" in control.
About 300. We are talking about the same press that calls the current president the "War President," but can't bring itself to honestly report on the fact that he skipped out of Vietnam by getting a manipulated acceptance into the Texas ANG, then went AWOL from the TANG with no repercussions.
This press is bought and paid for.
Please, get with the program, John McCain is the "war hero" candidate with foreign policy bona fides.
Kind of reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DuTgvLrt00
Maybe he was saying that if Petraeus said that he had 40 or 50 thousand extra troups that wern't needed in Iraq and they if were needed anywhere he would recomend that. Anywhere, anywhere at all. no? Just a thought.
,i>How many more of these will it take before the press starts questioning McCain’s so-called “foreign policy expertise”?
Too many:
Jake Tapper on the story:
In an attempt to undercut McCain's national security expertise and credentials (which is not to say his judgment, a separate issue), any gaffe or confusing statement McCain makes in that area is being attacked
This is of course exactlly what the "Army Times" had in mind when they ran the story.
mcclueless
John McSame's speciality is kissing a$$ for the effers in "power"... that's all McSame is about, period.
Aww c'mon give the guy a break. He's still getting that shi'ite/sunni stuff sorted out.hee hee.
How many more of these will it take before the press starts questioning McCain’s so-called “foreign policy expertise”?
I asked everyone in the press, and they said that no exact number of gaffes would do it. They want to give him the benefit of the doubt in order to be fair to him.
But they assured me that if the gaffes were still occurring six years into his presidency, they'd begin to question his expertise, perhaps with a retrospective about how nobody in the world picked up on clues that might have been there all along.
Petraeus to McCain: "It's not my job."
Will anyone in the media ever discuss that McCain might not be fit to be Commander in Chief?
God help us all if he would sit in the Oval Office making decisions.
when you have your head buried up some guy's ass, it's impossible to hear anything.
The poor guy was told: "don't think, don't say anything you haven't been told to say. If they ask you about anything having to do with the war, just say "Gen. Petraeus will decide'"
Not having any ideas of his own, obviously he is going to make mistakes, just look at Bush.
Karen @ 22:
Awesome, thanks for doing that.
Just wondering, does you head hurt after talking to them?
Press? What press? You mean that fanciful notion of the 4th estate? The loyal opposition? That silly concept of an imformed public? That press?
he is more like bush every day
The Army is in charge!! McCain doesn't understand the Constitution...or he believes as GW Bush that the Constitution is just a piece of paper, and that we should just "make up" the government as we go!
Little did we know that the Chimperor may be succeeded by a graying, senile baboon.
What, exactly, DOES McIdiot know?
Obviously not much, Doc.
Watch that "Letterman appearance" again. He's got that same blank, "no one at home" smirking look like GWB.
Yippee, McShitferbrains is on "Hard"ball with Senator Tweety tonight!
McManiac.
Everyone is seeking advice from the Generals all of a sudden.
What a festival of humility and concensus. Yes yes...just like the desire for the military and intelligence viewpoints before the invasion.
No need to worry about the housing crisis or fuel or food prices.
Once we're all drafted, we'll have all the clothes, food and housing we need.
I can hardly Mcwait for the McPresident to issue a Mccall to Mcarms to Mcdefend the Mccountry.
Since he's already showing many signs of dementia, appears to be fading and failing and given that the election will probably be rigged in order to install him, his pick of running mate is going to be crucial. I know Lieberquisling is hoiping for the job (another senilic, amoral POS). This is getting scary.
Well, the VP will be either McHuckabee or McRomney or perhaps McRice.
Maybe he meant it would depend on how many the Gen. could spare. I give him too much credit. In addition to wrong, his answer exemplifies an indecisive leader and probably a slip or show. The marching orders from above are the priority is Iraq. Just another sellout bozo who wants to become CiC.
I know you guys are all upset, as am I, but can you maybe peruse your posts before submitting? There are some awful examples of spelling and grammar that make reading the usually intelligent discourse here just utterly painful.
People honestly fear this tired old man who sometimes doesn't even know who HE is. Look GOP(and that includes all the liars who come to this site claiming to be progressive) crazy, angry, bitter, grandpa is going to get killed this fall. Get us someone who'll put up a good fight. Would you people do this sacrificial shit to your own grandfather?
Hey L & L -- McBullshit deserves it since he believes he "deserves" to be preznit.
Vote for Grandpa McSlappy.
Two dentures in every glass! He's a strong leader, despite his weak bladder. A host of experience, when he remembers it.
Poor McFlipflop.
He was against Busholini's tax cuts before he was for them.
He was anti-torture before he was pro-torture.
He was pro campaign finance reform (and co-sponsored legislation!) before he was against it (and broke the law!).
I'm sure I've missed some others.
and this senile old fool has the audacity to think he could lead this nation. Well, Bush's reign has given anyone and everybody hope.
we're already the laughing stock of the entire world for "electing" mcgoofus to lead us. imagine, middle america, how we will be viewed should mccain achieve that offfice.
But...the lame street media claims McGrandpa is "formidable"!
Petraeus must be the freaking President, these two idiots is giving the power to General Petraeus, why not just let him be the President.
Outside McCain world, most normal people see the brain as the hardware, the synapse firing patterns are the software, and psycho-actives and conscious 'thoughts' are like wild-card hackers cueing novelty awareness to retain our sense of interest and experience from atrophying. (thoughts tweak the synapse discharge patterns, thus morphing perception/awareness/experience) We designed ourselves to have a continuous experience of infinite possibilities and expressions. McCain, quite simply, has a fried mother board, multiple bad sectors, and his exhaust fan stopped working quite a while ago so that what we’re generally hearing when you waste valuable seconds of your life to focus on his decaying electron shells, is the super-heated exhaust exiting pell-mell from the only port that isn’t either charred or over-worked, instead jawing nonsense syllables stung together with cognitive dissonance for the benefit of the cerebrally handicapped and the incurious inbred, all without that disagreeable and socially offensive odor.
I hope that Generalissimo Petraeus can continue to lead us to the prosperity experienced by other military governments.
I've watched US presidents since Eisenhower, and very few have been "hands-on" presidents.
Eisenhower certainly wasn't. He was the (often unwitting, I think) front man for the very Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex (in the person of Senator Prescott Bush & the Bush family lawyers on Ike's cabinet) that he later warned about.
Kennedy was shot because he was a hands-on president.
LBJ was a front man for the very cabal that ran Eisenhower's presidency and shot JFK.
Nixon was Prescott Bush's protege, owned by the cabal.
Carter was marginalized by his own party because he was a handson president.
Reagan and both Bush's have been front men for the cabal.
Clinton enraged the Republicans by out-republicaning them, trying to steal corporate sponsorship from the Republicans. He stole his way into the cabal.
So the fact the McCain knows diddly-squat about Foreign or Domestic Policy really matters very little. All he has to do is go before the Merkin sPeeple and constantly reassure us that everything is AOK, while the minions of the cabal do their dirty work -with his stamp of approval.
Hence the free pass he gets from the press.
Foreign policy expertise???? How many more of these gaffes before someone, anyone brings up the senility issue??? Everytime I hear another one of these revelations regarding this guy, I'm reminded why I wouldn't vote for him even if some GOPer offered to pay me. To borrow from an old Animal House line.. Being old, senile, and full of himself is no way to go about being president of the United States....JD
How many more of these will it take before the press starts questioning McCain’s so-called “foreign policy expertise”?
8,367,387,478,273,497,983,466 give or take....
The most important quality this next Pez will require is DIPLOMACY. Diplomacy begins with intelligence and awareness of other dignitaries you're going to meet and what their capacities are.
I remember in 2000 when interviewed, GW Bush did not who the Prime Minister of Canada was and he'd probably be meeting in the following 6-8 months.
This guy is the miror image but overall ladies and germs....where is the experience from either candidate.
This is a weak group of potential Presidents.
People should realize it is not a question of expertise or no expertise or experience as Hillary Clinton will call it. You can have all the experience in the world but if you do not have the ability to recall the memory (AKA dementia may be pre-senile or senile) all that experience is no use to you. In the early stages of dementia the memory loss is usually covered up as a misspeak or just lack of knowledge or confusion but my friends John McCain the potential GOP nominee for president is exhibiting all the signs of dementia. He is in early dementia call it whatever else you wish.
How many more of these will it take before the press starts questioning McCain’s so-called “foreign policy expertise”?
I don't know about that but if McCain keeps embarrassing the GOP like this FOXaganda is going to start putting a "D" in front of his name.
MountainMan23: you speak the truth.
dam !for being an old senile fool hes sure got a lot of folks scared!
Evidently quite a few more will need to be uttered.
MountainMan23.....exceptionally well done, sir !
McCain is a complete idiot who is showing his excessive age more and more every day. So, he's guaranteed to win the presidency! (I won't get fooled again.) He is exactly the type of know-nothing Republican fool that American voters seem to favor.
Didn't McCant say he knows how to catch Osama Bin Laden but wouldn't say how unless he got the nomination. Man! is he holding back on us or what?
McMutiny is now finally old enough where he can be MANAGED just like Reagan was.
If he somehow gets elected he won't know whats going on he'll just sign
everything and DO AS HE'S TOLD. The problem is what to arrange to get him in.
Kill Osama? Allow a bus to be blown up in DC? Suicide bomb? Blow up an oil refinery
in Lieberman's backyard? Anthrax? These things can be managed very well both before
and, more importantly, after they happen.
