Tell Air America To Give Sam Seder A Daily Show!

Air America's Sam Seder has a chance to take over the time slot created by Randi Rhodes's departure. It was just about a year ago that Air America made the foolish decision to move Seder from a daily show to Sundays; he a vital progressive voice on the radio, one that should be heard daily.
Right now, the plan is to rotate weekly a roster of celebrities to fill Rhodes' time slot. Ironic for a company who said that the mistake their predecessors made was filling the schedule with comedians instead of solid radio professionals. BNF says they have about 4,000 signatures already and hope to get 6,000 more this week to deliver to the Air America offices. Let's help get Sammy the permanent position.

While Sam has a good head on his shoulders I think he would make a better columnist than spokesperson. His incessant uh's and umm's drive me out of my mind. It's almost as if his mind can't continually supply enough words to keep his mouth busy.

I did that over the weekend. I got an email from Seder - and 'followed his orders'.
Sam should have a show, although to be honest, it would be better if he lost his contract with AAR as I suspect he would be hired by Novam. Word here (Tucson) is that his contract with AAR is one of the main things in the way.

I signed the petition, and sent an email to AAR. I only did it because I really want Sam over anybody else to fill Rand's spot. Sam is an excellent talk show host. He's friendly, and makes all the callers feel welcome. He's one of the best. We have to fight to get him back on the air Monday thru Friday! I'm afraid if we don't, we'll get stuck with some watered down version of Randy. Thom Hartman and Sam is all that's left good on AAR, except for Bobby kennedy, and Pappantonio on the weekend. Sorry Rachal Maddow is tooooo boring, and toooo watered down for me. Plus, she never takes callers.
No way. My Air America podcasts still don't work since the 'new' web site went into effect. Sam seemed to be the point person for the web site. No responce in trying to get help, and I am a paid subscriber to AA premium. Once Rachel Maddow gets her own TV show, I won't have any use for AA anymore. Too bad, but if they don't respond to their longtime loyal listeners/subscribers, what is the point. I already miss Thom Hartman!

They could start by dumping "The Lionel Show." That's what my local AA station plays 9 am to noon, in place of Stephanie Miller. Lionel is PITIFUL!!

I listened a little to his show today (it took some searching to find it, since most of the progressive radio stations, including the AAR affiliates I checked were running Randi Rhodes, and the AAR media player was dead - I found it in Madison WI). zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Air America, if the story told by Randi Rhodes on the air is correct (and I'm sure it is), is just another stinking corporation that kicks its employees around.
We went through this before with Seder (writing campaign), and the lead-heads at Air America didn't get it then, and still don't get it
I won't support AAR any longer. It's not a true progressive voice.

I'm not sure he has a choice - I believe he is under contract ... and I doubt he can break it.
He has asked for this (even though I know he would go to NovaM in a heartbeat). It just takes seconds - give it to him.
And the best part of Sam is the Sammy Cam..... It's like a whole different radio show when he goes to commerical.
( You can tell some of the negative postings on here are from people who never listen to his show. Sam hasn't worn the bow tie in years...but someone posted he should get rid of the bowtie.....well if you went to sammy cam..you'd see he is older that the pic which was done a few years ago.)
So the negative postings on here are most likely people paid to post negative crap on the internet.
Sam is very good with guests and call ins.
And btw, Rachel Maddow is VERY VERY informative...she doesn't need call ins. She has brilliant guests...plus her show is only 2 hours long..... After seeing Rachel on MSNBC and kicking ass to all the other pundints......she would be wasteing the listerners time by taking phone calls.
Sam has some brilliant skits and is very entertaining....but best of all he know his history and facts.
AA should be very glad they have him.
If given the chance....I would think Sam would do very well in the new administration come 20 January 2009.
Can't some of you just sign for those of us who adore Sam? I am 59, he could be my son! And he brought me back to political activism after the 2004 election. His air time during the Alito (a-lie-toe) hearings was brilliant. Perhaps the funny bone is different for us but I laugh out loud with his Virgil Goode routines. I hope he goes to Nova M too, but if same wants this at all please help him get it.
I like Sam Seder but it really doesn't matter to me who is on opposite Randi because I will always choose her first anyway.
I hope Seder joins NovaM as well, I am through with Air America.

No way. I did this before, when Janeane left (now THAT was a team), and AAR did nothing. Gave him a Sunday show. How humiliating.
AAR deserves to go go belly up. That's how all the contracts can be broken. Like I said above, it's not a true progressive voice when it strong-arms its employees, like it tried to do with Rhodes.
Randi Rhodes is a loudmouthed narcisist. Seder is smart funny and persuasive. If he gets the slot I will start listening to AM.

By the way lolli, I thought of that as a solution to the contract issue also. But I did hear him answer an IM (on sammy cam) saying he would go to NovaM in a second - which means that ... for whatever reason ... this is his only option.

I realize that he is low man, but he was the one promoting the great new web site. He was bloging about the web site. Never responded to all the questions about podcast problems.
I did email aar help, but NO response. I gave up. What good is an AAR if you can't listen to it. And it appears that those at AAR, from low man to higher ups, simply do not care. I'm at a loss.

I don't know why Mark Green loves that guy and hates Seder so much, but ever since Lionel went on, I started listening to Stephanie Miller. Stunningly, as bad as she is compared to Seder, she's light years better than Lionel. Hell, even Richard Belzer is better than Lionel. I'm beginning to think Green believes in the old adage that you gotta destroy the village to save it.

Hartmann and Maddow are all I listen to now. Hell, I even had to go back to listening to that right wing tool Steve Inskeep on NPR in the morning because Green couldn't or wouldn't keep live progressive programming on.
Put another way, I just hate Mark Green as AAR owner. Not to mention he supports Hillary!

I had an error first day and it was my error, but my memo was answered anyway. I don't understand people holding their little bitter crap against someone who may be out of work.

You know its funny, my contact wth seder is via the sammy cam not AAR. Different experience really. You should see the april 10th video on demand from samseder.com - its the day he discovers - live on the sammy cam - that he has been betrayed by AAR. I'm not sure how much control he really has. Doesnt look like much. As a comment, you might try either streaming NovaM or KPHX (from Phoenix, just up the road from me - the flagship novam station).
It is still developing. Jeff Farias (KPHX) in the afternoon has a good show and he is great with callers.

I say sign a petition to encourage Sam to leave AAR. I think that station is looking at the money issue and knows that there is profit to kill the station. They are supporting Hillary, whom has more corporate lobbyist funding of all three candidate.

Randi Rhodes, Tom Hartmann, Rachael Maddow, Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz are all top progressive radio talents. Not all are AAR talent but I could care less what network they are on, as long as they are on. Sam is passionate, well informed and well thought, but on radio? The guy is just to hard to listen to (in high pitched voice; "...let me just um, err, um, well, um, let me just um, first of all um, ... ... ") I have received many petitions from BNF, this is the first I will not sign. If they put him or anyone else up against Randi, I'll never hear them anyway.
I like Seder. Every time I listen he's kicking ass and taking names.

My local AAR station, which is apparently affiliated with both AAR and NovaM, is running Randi Rhodes now, apparently via NovaM, in the same time slot she used to have on AAR, so even if Seder were to get that time slot on AAR, I probably wouldn't hear him in the afternoons anyway. I never understood the appeal of Randi Rhodes. The sound of her voice is annoying to me and she's not really even funny. Someone in an earlier post said that Seder is a "failed comedian." -Well, I bet he'd still be much better at standup comedy than Randi Rhodes: "Hillary's a big fuckin' whore, ha ha ha...." -What the fuck was that about? How the fuck is that supposed to be funny? Rhodes is a fucking moron. She's also fat and ugly. We've already got Michael Moore, we don't need any more fat ugly people becoming symbols of American liberalism.
Tom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, Rachael Maddow, are on KTLK here in LA. If I miss Randi or Rachael I can stream them on Green 960 AM, later on in the day so screw AAR the Green brothers are repug-light anyway!

Policy wonks will give you the talking points over and over. The morning show sucks and the evening show is horrible. Hartman and Maddow are all that's left worth listening to.

He's gotten a LOT better over the past couple years. This was my exact complaint about him when he was on the show with Janeane Garofalo; it'd take him from the end of one set of commercials right up to the next break to GET AROUND TO WHAT THE HELL HE WAS TRYING TO SAY!!! I used to tune away in exasperation. Now, not so much.
The only good things left on AAR are Sam and Rachel Maddow. Especially Maddow, she's the awesome.

I like Sam Seder, think he is informed, and at times very funny, but I wouldn't support Air America for any reason. I will not listen to it. It's a joke. Fans like me stuck with that station through thick and thin, but when they pulled that bait and switch on Randi, that was it for me. Plus, Mark Green had as much to do with this station's demise as any of the old owners. He is a hack for Hillary. Hillary and her people are pathetic. Mark Green crossed business with politics in a corporate way, not in a progressive way. That was it for me. I'm out. Randi all of the way....
I love Sam and Rachael. I wish they had a chance to move on to bigger and better things. Personally, I'd love to see Sam on Olbermann a little more, and have Rachael get Tucker Carlson's show. (maybe have Sam on her show as well.)
Nova M would be a good move for Sam, but not for me, as I can't seem to get Nova M feeds on my computer and live in an area where AAR is non existent. (I would support his move there anyway. )
I did hear Richard Belzer. He was not horrible. He is no broadcaster, but he was fine, and he had Lawton Chiles AND was bashing Hillary by asking lots of questions about her actions (and making good points, by the way) and he also had Laura Flanders on for over an half hour, talking live...about Hillary and the voting machine problem.There were quite a few interesting things brought up about John Kerry, Edwards, and what happened in Ohio.
I'm sorry that Randi is gone, but I can see how Belzer might get good at a broadcasting gig, and have a very entertaining show, if given a weekly show, just not over Sammy.

All the Air America talent is/was horrible. I guess Seder is the better of a bad bunch. But frankly, Air America is excruciating. When I was listening it featured the worst, most stereotypical ranting leftists. I remember in particular the vituperative rhaving Rhandi Rhodes and the appalling Mike Malloy, in between whose rambling ran advertising that mostly seemed to feature borderline scams targetting at the gullible. Air America should finish the job of firing its talent and go to a more persuasive and more authentically leftist format: dead air.

If Randi's problems with Air America is any indication, Sam may not be able to just jump to any competitor.
Randi was able to leave and start quickly elsewhere because she had nothing in her contract to prohibit her. Sam may have such a restriction.

i think seeder is a good broadcaster and very timely in his observation of news and events. he already has a very large listening base and it will definitely grow, among supporters and detractors. anyone, including aar who wants numbers and profits should know that. i think it's probably a matter of principle for seeder, as he has been there from the beginning and feels he deserves consideration, which he does.

I'm a truck driver and I listened to the whole line up on my xm. Sam Sedar and Rachel Maddow were by far my favorites. I let my subscription lapse when you cancelled Sammy. I would consider getting it back if you gave him a daily show. I would literally time my driving to hear his show back when he was on. Had me laughing out loud with uncommonly good RELEVANT interviews. I was dissapointed and wrote in before when he was knocked by the Rush sound alike you had on... That guy from Fargo. I mean i like to hunt and respect the military but that guy is just an ass kisser.
Give Sammy a show and i will get xm back plus I can listen to the Dylan show again. But seriously stopped paying when Sam wasn't on.

To address a couple of things, I've read in this thread. Sam is NOT soft. He has no problems taking apart rightwing callers apart on their arguments. Belzer is ok, but there's definitely room for improvement. It took me awhile to warm up to Randi but once she had me, she had me. I listened to her show daily.
Here in NY on AA's flagship station, they have a vitamin supplement infomercial daily in Lionel's slot. I'd rather stream him than listen to that garbage.

With Randi being suspended, the new website being up, they had more traffic than their servers could handle. Also, Sam is in charge of content he is not the IT guy for the site. But by the second day I had no trouble getting the podcasts, so may be you just need to work on your own skills.

I understand what you're trying to say Terry. I think Tom has the cons on not to necessarily score a knock out during the debate but to let his listeners hear the arguments they're making. The rest of the show, either he deconstructs their argument or lets the callers do it as long as they don't make personal attacks to the guest.
I see the discourse is at its usual level.
Discourse is how NASCAR fans refer to the racing strip.
Mr. Seder is well informed, thoughtful and good at what he does. Having said that though, i am grateful that he was moved off of a nightly show. While i often side with him, his delivery, like Ms. Rhodes delivery, grates on me in short time.
I would also add that my AA affiliate, KPOJ (Portland, OR) put Dr. Rachel Maddow in Sams previous timeslot. I cannot describe how much more i appreciate Dr. Maddow's conversations, commentaries and delivery. She's an absolute class act and in my opinion, raises the bar for others to aspire to.
Seder is B list guest host material and nothing more.
I found an old Majority Report clip the other day, where Sam and Janeane were interviewing Randi. This was only a couple of months into the Air America launch. Randi brought up the fact that Sam and Janeane were already number two in the Portland market at their time slot. Their ratings were very good, that is why they tried to see if Sam could compete with Stephanie Miller. He had good ratings. The only problem was, there was no reason for stations that already had Stephanie to switch since she was doing well for them. My guess is, Sam still had good ratings on the stations that actually carried him.
I love listening to Sam because he can make me laugh while giving me bad news. Obviously his style is not going to be for everyone, but if a large number do like him and only a few do not he should be on five days a week. He says all the time that he wants more and more shows out there. That is how our movement will win the day and save our country.

I'm not a huge Sam Seder fan. He knows his stuff but find him unfocused and whoever mentioned his constant ummms etc is right. I find him hard to listen to. Someone more focused would be better. Would rather see someone else in Randi's spot, although luckily it looks like I can listen to her on nova now in L.A.
On another note, why do all these hosts take calls. I don't care what Joe in Montana has to say about anything. Give me information. That's what I loved about Franken's show. No calls, just info and good analysis. I can talk to the man on the street myself if I want his opinion.
I've always felt that only idiots wear bowties, I'm not going to feel different now just because a progressive is wearing it.
