Boehlert on Chris Matthews: Misogyny pays
"See, misogyny pays. And according to the Times, Matthews has three Mercedes in his driveway to prove it."
"See, misogyny pays. And according to the Times, Matthews has three Mercedes in his driveway to prove it."
President Me!
.
Vice Decider!
.
Now days shouldn't that be msogeny?
I much prefer a massager
And not some lame-ass, built like a refrigerator, guy named Hans.
Isn't Arlen Spector the Senator that Tweety wants his seat? Well, poor ol' Spector's health may cause him to retire. So Tweety what's stopping you? Go for it. I hope they drag your sorry a** through all the mud you have been so happy to smear on Obama and Clinton. But if you don't make it I am sure MSNBC will be happy to give you your old job back. If not Fox will. Tweety you are a sorry excuse for a man and a TV reporter. IMHO. By the way, would you run as a Dem or a repug????
The only reason Chris Matthews could be critical of Hilary is because he's a mysoginist. How dare he go to dinner parties in the nation's Capitol during an election season and talk about the Clintons! He should be made to pay for the fact that he's white, a man, and has some money in his pocket. For shame!
The point is that He talks about Her,not her policies. Cleavage. Pearls or Diamonds. Her hair. her wardrobehervoiceherhusbandherdaughterherherher
What would you like me to take away from reading this post?
Misogyny: Hatred of women - what is the term for hatred of men? Misandry (ie normal, everyday, business as usual, quit your snivelling and man-up, and so on)?
Matthews should be on the "Fair and Balanced" station because he is neither fair nor balanced.
There are a lot of highly paid, irresponsible idiots in this country...simply add Matthews to the list. I find him more and more repulsive daily, yet I continue to watch him like a moth to a flame.
Perhaps I need the couch time as much as him.
Man...what a lame ass Matthews is. He doesn't begrudge himself a hefty salary...but the other in America who drive used cars or ride buses...he is totally detached from.
This is what is called a liberal elitist positions. Many are already wealthy by lay terms....and are more than ready to allow the remiander of the populace to suffer under socialism just as long as everyone is given a fair share.
Reality Check: Your fair share in America is the effort, ingenuity, and personal sacrifice you put into your lifes's work. Not some government check...or some government control over the kind of medical care your family shoud recieve, or the kind of lifestyle your family should live. You should be able to live as luxuriously as you can afford. That is capitalism. Efforts to redistribute wealth soon will reduce incentives to really create wealth by using your ideas then executing plans and effort to build your own American dream. Not everyone wants to be rich,,,and even fewer are willing to make the sacrifices and suffer the delayed gratification necessary to become rich. But the American dream will live on. Socialism is already a lesson in the history books--no need to revive it again with Obama and Clinton.
What Boehlert doesn't mention is that accusations of misogyny have long been Clinton's #1 campaign strategy. She never gains so much as she does when playing the victim. What began as a strategy to diffuse any criticism of her ludicrous claims of "experience" has morphed into an all encompassing response to any Clinton criticism.
Of course, right-wing pundits will be used as the "official" examples when names must be named, but the strategy is still commonly employed against attacks from the left which are conveniently grouped in with the right-wing examples.
Poor, poor Hillary.
Journalism is dead in this country.
Jack K. @ 9:
What a load of "free" market crap. The only ones who are rich are those who work hard and sacrifice? It makes for a great Horatio Alger book but ignores the reality that nearly all the wealth held by the top 2% is inherited wealth. Moreover, a brief history of "The Guilded Age" reveals that none of this wealth was the result of either hard work or sacrifice - they were called robber barons for a reason. More recent fortunes have been based on tobacco, defense contracts, energy and health monopolies. Who worked hard or sacrificed for any of these fortunes?
GWB stands to inherit billions. Care to argue about his hard work and sacrifice? Or is it easier to get payed by the hour, play the lotto, and spout establishment propaganda in the hopes that your powerball numbers are going to hit?
Misogyny, racisim, rape, murder. They all pay, you just have to have the right government contract.
Matthews is a bafoon but I resent the continued insinuations by... dare I say it... embittered Hillary Clinton supporters who continually insist that a)the media is in Barack Obama's pocket (especially ABC, I hear >_>) and b)the only reason Clinton ever gets criticized about anything is because she's a woman.
You can't take one putz from one show and project it onto some broad, conspiratorial statement about the entire media, or (as is often done also) Obama voters.
Hold on, now. Chris Matthews? You're talking about a possible Democratic candidate for the Senate in 2010! Well, maybe being a blowhard with Republican values will win for him in Pennsylvania (that and being, when needed, a holier-than-thou Catholic).
This is why I stopped watching cable news. I couldn't take the constant Hillary bashing because she was a women. There was never a mention for what she stood for.
Tweety the elitist. No wonder he shills for the reich-wing.
ohh come on... please, he is not a misogynist (hating all women or hating someone because she is a woman).. please this is exactly what Matt Taibi wrote against in his reply to Erica Jong, "STOP ROLLING OUT LIBERAL CLICHES" when you dont agree with someone's point of view..
I respect you John and have been an avid reader for the last 4 years.. but I disagree with you on this one..
The national cathedral of the American consciousness -- television.
Next up, Brother Matthews.
Matthews is, was and always will be, an unmitigated horses ass. Even when he was single and worked as a "cop" on the hill, he drove a very beat up Mercedes. He is a very, very insecure man--people who have wealth are usually the least pretentious people.
Matthews is a name-dropping, tiresome jerk. FYI, if you are ever seated in a restaurant and he comes in, immediately ask for your check or for a table as far away from him as possible--his manners are revolting--apparently, he wasn't taught basic, fundamental table manners.
I have a feeling he is on his way out the door at NBC and it won't be to the US Senate either.
Matthews' response: Doesn't everyone have three Mercedes?

fiver @ 12:
Fiver speaketh the truth. It's so amazing how many Americans continue to buy into the (by now) asinine myth of 'the self-made man' when it's only purpose is to divide us from making allegiances with each other against those that don't have our interests at heart.
Which often, concidentally (?) enough, are the same people that continue to spread that little bit of nonsense.
TheEnticer @ 18:
This is a joke right? If not, you clearly haven't been paying attention.

This site is trending toward FreeRepublic stories and opinion, just from the opposite side of the political spectrum. C&L writers and readers....please stop Waaaambulence chasing, and get back to something resembling serious discussion. This "reich-wing" type of blather only makes easy for your detractors to dismiss you out of hand.
Matt @ 24:
hardly.
Yup. Chris Matthews.
Not in life's winner's circle.
Obnoxious and stupid though he may be, misogyny is only a very tiny piece of what makes Chris Matthews Chris Matthews and certainly is not the reason he was hired. As for it paying MSNBC, last I checked his ratings were heading towards Tucker Carlson territory—that is to say, the toilet— so I sort of doubt they're really getting their money's worth. In fact, last I heard, it was exceedingly doubtful that MSNBC is going to renew his contract once it's up, an idea which certainly makes a lot of sense. So, I honestly don't see misogyny as being a big factor here either way, though many of his comments, especially regarding HRC, have been over the top. That's why I'm hoping that Clinton, once she loses the nomination, beats the holy crap out of him.
Matthews is a Clinton hater, not a woman hater. He hates Bill more than Hillary, so does that make him a man hater? Even during the height of the woman's lib movement, miogyny was a word seldom heard. When the Beatles broke up, we finally got a chance to learn which part of the Lennon-McCartney team was contributing what: we confirmed our prior beliefs when post-Beatles Paul was the pretty melody, apolitical one while John was the the raucus, in your face, political and ideological one. Now that Hillary is on her own, we are finally able to confirm their differences:
Bill--wants to be liked, disorganized, empathetic, loves crowds, talking, and big picture thinking (or at least he was before his strokes)
Hillary--type A control fiend, wonkish, never wrong, the decider, debate champ, one-on-one schmoozer, perfectionist

LOL, sorry...couldn't resist. ; )
But he assures us, he knows how "regular guys" think.
At least some of the cars in Tweety's driveway were likely paid for by Mrs. Tweety (his True Boss -- he actually calls her "Queen Kathleen" -- and no doubt the inspiration for the lashings he transfers to Hillary). She is a high-level corporate officer for Marriott and former TV news presenter of a local DC network. Many believe her salary has always outpaced Tweety's.
Chris Mathews Bully & Hypocrite – Ernie Nounou, Disgruntled GE Shareholder
“The Aria of Chris Mathews” (NYT Sunday Magazine 4-13-08) provided a contextual reminder why friends and I stopped watching Hardball. As long as GE provided steady double-digit earnings growth, I’ve held my peace. After GE’s dramatic earnings miss last Friday, I’m mad as hell and see no reason why the $5 million that is partially mine pays the salary of a narcissistic, boorish lout conducting an oral food fight.
Full disclosure: I’m a Hillary supporter, dismayed by her disastrous campaign missteps, the responsibility for which rests with her, and fully respect Barak Obama’s campaign triumphs from a standing start. The best analogy is Sir Francis Drake’s routing of the Spanish Armada. That said, I don’t accept the shamelessly biased behavior of MSNBC during this campaign, and Mathews in particular.
An enduring quality of the American character is our strong sense of fair play. While we forgive and abide liars and philanderers, we loathe bullies and hypocrites. Mathews is both, and based on all the blogging in response to the NYT article, opinion of him runs 15 – 20 to 1 against. (Chris, why not put it to a vote on your show, if you dare?) Very interestingly, I tuned Morning Joe to see their take on this article. Note they have a segment that checks out articles in various papers, and suck up any media pieces that aggrandize any MSNBC personality. They quoted Frank Rich’s NYT Op Ed, but had a loud silence, total avoidance of the Mathews article. MSNBC policy, future portent? Let’s hope so!

Tweety a misogynist and misogyny pays? Yup, nothing new there.
slag @ 23:
I have paid enough attention.... just that I am not as reactive and forthcoming in my knee jerk reactions as you are...
Please.. cite, quote or link to something that he has said which establishes he hates women.. and dont play the feminist 'victim' playbook which hillary has made a campaign issue.. (her "this all girls college made me ready for the boys club that presidential debates are" or her "they want me to drop out coz I am a woman" or her supporters crying about how hillary is getting negative coverage because "she is a woman"). Methinks you need to keep up , read Erica Jong and Matt Taibbi's back aforth on HuffPo..
The problem is people hide behind their race (coming from a colored man) or their gender to hide character flaws... and knee jerk reactionary folks just get their 'Irish' up about it..
From Ernie@31 I understand Matthews hates women because he was tough on hillary and is not attacking Obama.. how about the fact that there was a lot of Clinton baggage in public domain which he probably sensationalized. Does that mean he hates all women? Come on... that only discredits and hurts our intelligence.. Then of course she goes on to attack Matthews personally.. because nothing screams a "Well thought out argument" than a personal attack.. And Hill's campaign which is using this playbook is now wondering where they went wrong.. (and obviously in their heads they could never go wrong, so obviously BO received a free pass)
TheEnticer @ 18:
Hi, I respectfully disagree too, but we can differ on C&L. Thanks.
I don't think it's a cliche when I see it happen every day from Matthews. But that's how I see it...:-)
Simply a great assessment of Hillary(who I support) and Chris
(which as a fair minded MAN..I have grown to detest).
well done Ernie.
John Amato @ 36:
Thanks John, thats why the respect and the support of all your readers...
