C&L Podcast: Glenn Greenwald Discusses His New Book

I was fortunate enough Thursday to interview Glenn Greenwald about his new book, Great American Hypocrites: Toppling the Big Myths of Republican Politics. In this podcast exclusive, we discuss the major theme of his book in the context of John McCain and the press' reverence for him, as well as the successful campaign we waged to kill the AT&T bill and what it says about the emerging power of the blogosphere.

GAH!!!(?)

Nope. I have a wall of books already and no more room.

But Hannity & /co. already told me I'm a commie pinko.

Love the title.

Glen what are you doing in the field of Law for us these days.

When you walk through the field of Law, do you have to watch where you step?

Glen you need to dump Random House and self publish. Go digital. Random House has to voracious an appetite for trees for my liking.

a Great interview.

another great book.. "How Would a Patriot Act?"

speaking of...

April 15, BILL VOTE: Emergency Assistance for Secure Elections Act of 2008
A bill that would have helped states switch to paper-election balloting systems and for random audits
http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2008/roll188.xml

Democratic GOOD ON THIS BILL=223
TRAITORS ON THIS BILL = 2
Republican: GOOD ON THIS BILL=16
TRAITORS = 176

needed a two-thirds majority to pass, went down to defeat in the House 239-178, with 223 Democrats in favor and 176 Republican opposed, after the White House ( crooks ) sent out a statement opposing the measure.

LOL

Glenn is great. His posts are fact-based, intelligent, progressive illuminations. The book is great. And he's despised by the Right.

This should be a very interesting read. In fact, I have been pondering how Republicans are viewed compared to what they actually are in reality and what they are is almost always the polar opposite of what they present to the public. For example:

If they say they are tough on national defense and want more wars you can pretty much bet they are cowards themselves and/or have been draft dodgers.

If they say that they will do everything to protect children from sexual predators they almost always are pedophiles themselves.

If they say they are against homosexual marriage or relationships you can pretty much bet that they are homosexuals themselves.

If they say they are anti-corruption they are pretty much corrupt themselves.

I think Republicans got this method to hide their weaknesses and temptations from the old Christian teachings about Satan.  Christians always say that Satan will not present himself to people as he truly is but will come across as the exact opposite.  He will show himself as a friend or someone to be trusted in order to gain their confidence.  Once that is done, Satan will do his evil work.  Republicans seem to operate in a similar manner.

If people don't realize we're screwed for a long while by now they probably never will.

It's called polarization. Something this country can live without but it's not looking like it's going away anytime soon.

Polarization is an ugly environment to have to live in.

Let me clarify a bit here on one of those examples I have given. i'm not saying that homosexuality is evil. Not at all. But I am saying that the way Republicans use homosexual bigotry and hatred as a way to cover their own homosexuality can be seen as evil.

Finished the book two nights ago. Very good. Covers well known territory, but ties in nicely a number of themes. Also last chapter good. Is the construction and hopefully deconstruction of McCain. I like Greenwalds style and found the book streamlined and fun to read.

He give any practical advise on how to stop the McCain machine?

Guess we'll have to wait till the Clinton-Obama Match is over before we can think about that.

Or maybe go duck hunting with him..

Downloaded an e-book file the day it came out, but as I like to read while I eat and the dinning fac does not allow cell phone use inside, that has put a damper on my main reading habits.
I'd like to make a list on amazon of all the books that presents conservatives for what they really are, this book and conservatives without a conscience are the two definite.

Great piece, but don't play a drinking game where you take a drink every time someone says "you know," LOL.

Ordered my copy last friday. Glenn's blog on Salon is a must read.

glennzilla's book is on order

soon, this one will be too

What a shitty mix. Unlistenable.

It's a great book and the perfect one to give to those new democrats, or folks who have been uninvolved politically. Much detail about these thugs who have seized control of our government and the fact that they are complete, unequivocal fakes.

Is Hillary in the book ?
