C&L fan Richard Lewis (I saw him perform here in San Francisco a few weeks back and he actually plugged the site! Thanks, Richard :0)) on last night's Countdown discussing politics today. Richard's book The Other Great Depression is now out on paperback.

Top 5 Suggestions for Obama to Cut Into Hillary’s Senior Vote

I like Richard Lewis. He's funny, he's frenetic, he's open about his problems, and hell, he's sober.
IWhen he was last on K.O.'s show he said "The last 7 years under Bush have been like the worst years of my life" and for alot of people thats the Gospel truth. No matter how great your day is you know your country is being fucked over and lots of innocent people somewhere are dying from this nations foreign policy.
Is China softening its approach to the Dalai Lama?
tyree @ 8:
son, don't make me run a fibonacci sequence on yo' @$$.
You know who the real true Democratic frontrunner is by who McCain perceives as his greater threat. So when McCain smears Obama by claiming that Hamas prefers
Obama, not Hillary, to be president, this essentially anoints Obama and delegates Hillary to the rubbish heap. In that sense he has done Obama a favour, all the mathematics aside. We also know this is the case because Obama has accepted Fox's challenge to an interview. I happen to think this is a huge mistake. Obama, while he can surely handle himself, is not as skillfully a bastard as Bill Clinton was/is,
and look at the scummy reptilian way Hillary has behaved in this campaign. We know that in this strangely self-destructive country, being decent and honest is
perceived as a weakness (read: Kerry, Gore). If you're reading this Barack, stay above the fray, and tell Fox you have a scheduling conflict. They'll plutz.

(Alonh with someone else we all know who pretends to be Christian). And Hagee has to be the anti-Christ. Hope you've girded your loins for the fight, cause he is evil incarnate. By the way that's no reflection of your loins.

I was raised a Catholic, then i decided to be a "Christian."
Then i realized Christ was the last Christian so my best shot was to try to be a Christian.
Then i realized that in order to try to be a Christian i needed to get Cruxified.
Later i not only realized Christ probably never existed but also that God did not exist either.
But i do believe there are good Christians out there. They just don't have televised ministries.

Hey folks! Remember that totally awesome Half-billion dollar Embassy we built in Iraq??? Well, it's back in the news again. Apparently, when the neo-con's answer to the Taj Mahal was built they kinda - how can I put this?? - they kinda, sorta didn't build enough apartments for the State Department employees who are going to be stationed there. Oh, but the State Department is on it! It's looking into buying ADDITIONAL TRAILERS for the employees (I hear FEMA has a shitload, but I digress). Now, I don't know about you but, I get the impression that trailers aren't going to hold up very well against little things like, you know, mortar attacks??? Here's the link:

How much more fucking up can one take?? Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go and bang my head on my desk - very therapeutic.

He irritates the crap out of me, to be honest. It's not his angst - I've seen angst executed exquisitely a million times. It's his frantic, drunken ranting, the general lack of jokes (unless you count the admittedly-petulant rantings), etcetera. I guess, to me, he seems like an unmedicated bipolar individual and that's more awkward than hilarious.
Oh well!

My sibs and I dropped out of church when I was about 9 years old. My parents didn't seem serious about it (they stayed home), so we put an ultimatum to them, "Either you come with us, or we quit." The whole family quit that day. We tired of the charade.
Anyone who preaches love is OK with me, Christian or not: Xians haven't cornered the market on love, much as they think they have. I do believe Jesus existed. He was a man who preached love (a lot).
tyree @ 88:
My understanding of the story is that what is glossed over the most is why Jesus was Crucified. When he expelled the money changers from the temple he pissed off Rome. The High Priests, who were Jewish, held high political office only as long as Rome tolerated what went on in Jeruselum.
Jesus was a problem.
So the High Priests brought in Rupert Murdock and Fox News made him out to be a terrorist and the rest is history.
I haven't seen anything that shows me that any of you know much about what the Bible tells us. Try reading it.

I am a white atheist male, 10 days older than McCain [shut up].
If I replace all references to anything theological or god that the reverend said, with the words reason and common sense, I agree with the man 100%.
The problem here are republicans who are grasping for straws to get a republican elected. I have come to the conclusion that republicans willfully or through ignorance misrepresent statements. It was very clear that the reverend was not talking about the country or its people that should be damned , he was talking about the people in power. Why else would he have mentioned Roman, British, Russian, Japanese and German governments who have all failed, then added America.
The problem here is Fox - specifically Hannity - who preaches this hateful mantra for an entire hour every day. Hannity is also despicable and repulsive in that someone who is a liar, a hater, a bigot, a racist and more has the unmitigated gall and talk about someone else's character and honesty.
One needs only look at what happened to John Kerry, whom they accused of having accused soldiers of having committed atrocoties, when he testified in Congress about was was told him. He never accused anyone.
Another thing comes to mind is that republicans must be genetically flawed. I have yet to meet one who has the capacity to see the other side, even sides, of an issue. They don't understand that two people within a few yard of each other see things differently. The one standing outside of the house looking in through a picture window sees something totally different than another standing inside looking out.
I think Democrats must gear up and build a machine that is just as vile and vicious as their machine, except I would like to see the Democratic machine stick to the verifiable truth. They must be ready to respond quickly and decisively.

I wll admit, amidst my often angry-at-America-ranting, most Americans do seem to have a core goodness about them. I think it's sad to see so many just can't be bothered paying proper attention to what's really going on. It's not just apathy, it's also being incurious. And, yes, these corporations are organized, have money, and are controlling the message.

Not to pick on Richard Lewis but can't Keith get a left wing comedian who's funnier than him? That guy's worse than Dennis Miller. Never finishes a sentence and you can't understand what the hell he's talking about most of the time.
Wow, he's drunk. If it's not obvious from his own behavior, watch Olberman's reaction to him; instinctively making distance.

I saw that on Kieth yesterday. I saw him on Kieth a few weeks ago too. A few weeks ago every other sentence was about how long he had been sober. He never mentioned it yesterday.
On the other hand he was more coherent yesterday than he was a few weeks ago. He was all over the place like a madman on speed. He would start a sentence, interupt himself and start another sentence in the middle and then say the end of yet another sentence. It made for an interesting collage.

Not exactly hateful - what I want to see is Hagee, the 100 year occupation, the flip flops, the ignorant economic statements, his love for more wars and all the other junk hammered home until the MSM picks it up. I know KO would pick it up, so would Dan Abrams - I think, but who else? This should be made part of the Democratic machine, because we don't get the exposure they do. Why else would 33% still believe Obama is a muslim? We need guests to get on Fox who don't wimp out. Be as firm as Bill Clinto was opposing Chris Wallace.

Irresponsibility, individual careerism or cowardice, or ignorance on the part of those of us who belong to the media, undoubtedly contributes to this darkened national intelligence or consciousness.
The overall cause of self-suppression of public discussion of certain issues and the self-censorship by politicians, officials, “public intellectuals” and press, is a consensus that now exists among officials, politicians, publishers, media corporations and journalists that it is impolitic to recognize certain realities.
This is true even when national security, as such, is not involved. The nation has a certain image of itself. It is unprofitable to raise the possibility that this is not a true image.
ronhohn @ 124:
