The Hugh Hewitt Award: 'The Hughie'
I'm starting a new category dedicated to the insane ramblings of the right wing punditry class that is so embedded in our national media. Hugh, congratulations on your victory. You've won the first "Hughie Award," for this statement of the ridiculous:
It doesn't advance the idea of civil debate to continually blast your opponents as somehow different from your allies. We have Rush; they have the Jon Stewart. We have Ann Coulter and Michael Savage. They have Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews.
Yes, Hugh---this truly is worthy of the first--ever---Hughie award---so my hat is off to you!

Oh, yes, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews call for the round-up of all liberals and going liberal-hunting. They, like Ann Coulter, view all opponents as traitors.
Jesus on a stick! What reality is this guy from? O.o
Chris Matthews claimed herr dubyah should be on Mount Rushmore and has compared him to Lincoln. "We" have Chris Matthews?
Looking at the tonnage, and man-tits maybe the baby Hughie is more appropriate.
The people are on to all these clowns and crooks....
We also remember..

just busy pushing the right hand side of the spectrum closer to the middle like a good little boy.
Please don't link to Townhall.com, or other rightwing sites.
Let's see, Jon Stewart, who spends almost as much time satirizing left wing politicians and pundits as he does right wingers, Keith, who takes up his air time trying to weed through the onslaught of government lies, and Chris, who, without a shadow of a doubt, is REPUBLICAN!
moondancer @ 3:
mary matalin should be so lucky.
Sure, there are crazed people on both left and right, but the vast majority of the big name commentators are almost all genial in person, serious in thought, and respectful of their opponents dignity as human beings even though the disagreements are deep between the two sides. It doesn't advance the idea of civil debate to continually blast your opponents as somehow different from your allies. We have Rush; they have the Jon Stewart. We have Ann Coulter and Michael Savage. They have Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. For every force in commentary there is a counter-force, and operatives too numerous to count try hard every day to influence the information the commentariat across the spectrum sees, absorbs and comments upon.
What is so ridiculous about these statements? I agree that Chris Matthews is not the corollary to Ann Coulter or Michael Savage, but Keith Olbermann is. When I tell conservative friends who don't read blogs that the left wing thinks Chris Matthews is a right-wing tool, they don't believe me. So Hewitt's assertion isn't really that far off coming from his perspective. My guess is he was trying to drive a few left-wingers crazy by making that comparison, anyway. Some bloggers on the right have a little bit of a sense of humor, surprising as that may sound. And I doubt if he'd be surprised if anyone bit.
I think its a step forward that he admits that ann coulter and michael savage are "on his side".
aimai
We have Rush; they have the Jon Stewart. Two comedians. Good comparison, Hughie. Rush should hear about this.
Just how to the right do you have to be to believe Chris Matthews is on the left. On the visible spectrum of political discourse this guy must be gamma radiation and that's pretty harmful to your health. By the way John, you wouldn't consider changing the name of your award to "The Foil Fedora" would you. It's my own coinage and has a nice ring don't you think?
The insane rantings of the right. There is no correlation between how far right the people listed are, to a lunatic level, and how arguably leftist those names are that he lists. Poor poor analogy on his part.

Jesus on a stick! What reality is this guy from? O.o
he's from the reality where You yourself are smart enough
to realize that what you're saying is complete and utter horseshit,
but the people who take you seriously aren't. And you're much better
off in every way possible outside of self-respect because of it.
dennis, your missing the point.
Jon Stewart and Keith don't "joke" about assasinating right wingers or claim all republicans are traitors and deserving of (??!) or make the blatant racist commits they do.
There's NO comparison.
The Republican party stands for selfishness and hatred. Pure and simple. They only care about themselves and/or their morals. They either want to get rich or they want to rule your private life. They are in favor of war and they are against everybody having access to affordable health care. To compare the humorous Jon Stewart to the hateful Rush Limaugh is absolutely ludicrous. Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are selfish hate mongers. It is truly amazing how the media has turned "liberal" into some kind of nasty label. Truly amazing. The US is so fucked up.
Joe Tseng @ 15:
we're actually fairly civil, considering all of our leaders from jfk to rfk to mlk to lennon to wellstone were taken out via cheap shots.
i may occasionally wonder what it might be like to shove crushed limpball's face in a meat grinder, but i'd never actually do it.
Christ on the crotch, that man has bigger titties than most girls I know.
Would this be a good place to link to a brilliant British video going over the commander in chump's use of language?
I Haven't got a Clue!
11 MarinatedInSmog Says: We have Rush; they have the Jon Stewart. Two comedians. Good comparison, Hughie. Rush should hear about this.
=====================
I count one comedian and one brain-addled drug-addicted asswipe.
What does that quote even mean? I read it a few times. (And I am reasonably smart.)
Rush Limbaugh is to Jon Stewart
as
4000+ dead soldiers is to 5-6 blow jobs.
@19, that should be I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.
HEY!!
The funny little "Pimp your Profile" cursor add works fine...
Too bad NOTHING else doeson this site.
Not one video.
Joe Tseng @ 15:
Really? What was Keith saying when he said "Somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out" when speaking of Hillary's unwillingness to drop out of the race?
No comparison? Guess it all depends on your perspective, which is exactly what Hewitt is saying.
9 dennis Says: Some bloggers on the right have a little bit of a sense of humor, surprising as that may sound. And I doubt if he’d be surprised if anyone bit.
========================
Yeah, right.
Ann Coulter: "We'll invade your country, kill your leaders, and convert you to Christianity."
I could hardly finish typing that I was laughing so hard. (Snore.)
If you're performing maintenance, let people know.
If not, it just looks like it's broken and you dont give a shit.
bitter Edwin Hussein @ 25:
Glad to make you laugh, Edwin. I'm glad when anyone here laughs. But if you want to play that game, we could be here all night. Again, it's all about one's perspective.
bitter Edwin Hussein @ 20:
Have you ever heard Olberman say these words: "Comedian, Rush Limbaugh, todays Worst Person In The World"?
Evidently Hughie has.
Yes this site isn't healthy tonight. It was working fine this afternoon. No videos are downloading now however.
Mug @ 23:
dennis @ 9:
You know Dennis I've watched The Daily Show practically since it's inception and I don't recall anyone on that show making fun of someone with a debilitating disease or swiftboating an injured child or any of the other similar jests that the right wing comedian Limbaugh and his audience seem to find so amusing.
moondancer @ 3:
That is one wicked case of man tits. They say smoking to much pot will do that.
Peter G @ 30:
Sorry, I just don't watch the Daily Show much. And I doubt if you listen to Rush Limbaugh much. When you hear anything about Limbaugh, you probably only hear what someone wants you to hear. Both sides do that extensively. Again, perspective. Again, exactly what Hewitt was saying if you click the link above and read it.
dennis @ 9:
Sometimes the left and the right ARE about the same: sometimes they're not. The left was out of control in the 60s and 70s and the right has been out of control in the last 20 years. You wouldn't say, in Cambodia in the early 70s, "Prince Sihanouk, Pol Pot - they're about the same." Of in the Weimar Republic, "the Socialists, the Nazis - different sides of the same coin." Your argument is a bullshit argument and has been since it was first postulated which was long before either of us was born.
Oh yeah! Jon Stewart is exactly like Rush Limbaugh. Why, just the other night, didn't Jon Stewart call for rioting and bloodshed during the Democratic Convention in Denver?? /snark Methinks Hugh Dimwit has the same Hillbilly Heroin connection as Rush.
dennis @ 32:
Au contraire. I get Limbaugh on satellite radio. When I first got it I listened to the old Blowhard quite a few times and never did find an intentional laugh. Listening to him gets old real fast. Same insipid distortions and manufactured outrage day after day. I listened on and off for about ten days. That'll do me for the rest of my life.
Gosh, I wonder why Chris Matthews or Keith Olberman haven't dreamed of riots in the streets
of Minneapolis....or why Chris Matthews or Keith Olberman haven't called on Democrats to go sabotage the Republican primary - while posturing as some kind of "Great Patriots"....yeah, there's just all kids of equivalents....(oh, and Olberman apologized on air for the Hilary statement....when's the last time Limbaugh, Coulter or Savage ever really apologized for anything? Just ask Michael J. Fox or Michael Schiavo). For Conservatives to try and make these kinds of in-kind analogies shows to what extent they really are authoritarians and unwilling and unable to recognize it. Now, I will grant that if Hewitt had used Randi Rhodes he might have been on some firmer ground. Not that it matters becausse there's 100 times more of them than of us.
Uh, perhaps I am failing to grasp the logic here...if your opponents were not any different from your allies, wouldn't they be your...your allies?
Stewart is a natural comedian. Limbaugh is one without wanting to be one. Stewart has his tongue planted firmly in his cheek, Limbaugh has it firmly planted...well, take your pick. Furthermore, Stewart really focuses on hypocrisy (the food of politics). Limbaugh can only rant and rail against the "evils of liberalism". Both Limbaugh and Stewart are succesful because they
know what their audiences are wanting to see and hear. But Limbaugh's audience is much more
myopic. Anyway, Conservatives can't find any good comedians because they themselves are so
hilariously funny in their slavish devotion to the Human Comedy that is conservative ideology.
[Hey, massalla, why don't you nut up, quit hiding behind your mask of anonymity, and make your personal attacks on John more directly? Just write us at sitemonitor1@gmail.com , and we'll pass it along. We don't allow abuse towards the bloggers or commenters here, pal. Site Monitor]
Oh yes, let's not be mean to our opponents. That would be uncalled for.
It's just a continuation of the favorite right wing game of Move The Goalposts. Having no integrity makes it much easier for them to play.
Mug @ 23:
They work fine for me, check your connection, you may be getting riped off! :-)
What. an. ignorant. putz.
Since when do liberals, progressives, and Democrats "have" Chris Matthews?!? Matthews may not be quite as blatantly and violently biased as Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Savage, et al. -- but he's no friend to the left, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Personally, I for one would like to see more civility and less vitriol in public debate. However, at far as I can recollect, we weren't the ones who started it -- and as long as Coulter et al. refuse to exercise any civility (especially in light of the fact that it's the conservatives who love to pontificate about the declining morals in this country!), I see absolutely no reason why people like Al Franken and Randi Rhodes and Jon Stewart should give any quarter either. As far as I'm concerned, I'll agree that people like Rhodes should be quiet when conservatives start telling people like O'Reilly to be quiet -- but not a second before then.
Go to NYC. Find some performance artist, in a loft in the Village, who gathers dog-shit off the street which he then molds into highly life-like busts of Cheney, Bush, Frist, DeLay, Condi etc. Said performer then urinates on said busts during performances. Then give this person a national radio show. Give them 5 nights a week on cable news. Congratulations! You've just discovered the liberal counterpart to Michael Savage!
the draft from opening up such a wide overton window on what is reasonably objective journalism could set off a sonic boom.
I understand Hewlett's intent, but the most important point he missed in the comparison is that while the LEFT is fully cogent of the fact the The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are intended to use vague context and parody in the quest to mock and find humor in the daily news, the RIGHT has yet to grasp the same truth about Hannity and Colmbs or the O'Liely Factor.
Personally, I have no problem with people who watch FauxSnooze for entertainment or to get a good chuckle...the only people who bother me are the ones who insist it is actually a NEWS channel, or somehow feel it is a "fair and balanced" alternative to the reality-based community.
If it wern't for those damn liberal bias that comes along with those pesky FACTS, Faux just might be good infotainment!
If it's called, The Hughie; Why is there a pic of The Golden Globes Award on this post?
dennis @ 32:
I have to agree with Peter.. and perspective is hardly the issue. In fact, I've watched The Daily Show regularly... brought a Republican friend with me to see a taping and she laughed through the whole thing without being personally insulted once! On the other hand... I've accidentally tuned my radio to Rush's show, listened for a couple of minutes, and have managed to be appalled AND personally insulted in a matter of a few minutes.
If only Rush and his followers could look around and see the many solid, tax-paying, flag-saluting, neighborly, military-serving, civic-minded, hard-working, and successful business-owning people in America who also happen to be Democrats, liberals, and progressives. Many even have enough common sense to know that in our democracy, it's their job to question the likes of greedy self-serving a-holes like Rush and his fearless leaders in the White House. (Oh, I guess that probably would affect his ratings and his connections to his dear leaders if he did that.)
Well, I suggest watching the Daily Show... for some actual perspective.
Dood, a cone-bra is meant to be worn on the OUTSIDE.
I learned that from Madonna.
dennis @ 32:
bet ive heard more of the limbaugh show than you
i was listening back in the day when he made his bones by doing "caller abortions" and his "gay updates"
what the heck does it mean "what someone wants you to hear"
do you suggest that his comments are taken out of context?
let me tell you this....when stewart goes deaf by sucking down oxy's left and right, then goes on the air to lie to his listeners about what has caused his hearing problem...when stewart starts taking sex trips to south america to bang underaged boys....when stewart starts marrying women left and right to act as beards for his after hours perversions...maybe then you can compare the two
until then.........not
KayInMaine @ 40:
You know the old saying: when one side fights fair and the other doesn't the fair side gets the crap pounded out of it.
Seriously, is it necessary to show us Baby Hughey's sweaty man tits every time he's mentioned? Ugh.
And, if I recall correctly, the pic was taken during the Marine Corps marathon. As a Marine, I find it offensive that pasty white tub o' lard has the gall to pretend to "man up" for something like the Marine Corps marathon.
"Hey Butterball! Back in the kitcken, you unsat piece of shit!"
[Is that too offensive?]
So by comparing Rush and Stewart then Hugh finally has accepted that Rush is a comedian. Well done sir!
eeewww........man boobs
Was Baby Hughie running in the men's or woman's competition?
Could we can it with the fat jokes? They don't add anything to the argument, make the jokers appear petty and alienate like minded folks who also have man tits (like myself). I don't want sympathy or anything stupid like that but, if you're going to make a potentially alienating joke, as least make it a good one.
Nice man boobs
ruffmama @ 55:
ROLMAO!
Joe Tseng @ 15:
Dennis doesn't get it, and never will! But that's okay, he doesn't seem like a bad guy, as far as trolls go.
Hey Hugh! Nice titties, bitch
dennis @ 27:
Perspective? Bullshit!
That is the biggest reason the wingnuts have been able to impose fascism on this country. They have sold the idiotic notion that everything is based on perspective, and that there is no such thing as truth, right or wrong, and injustice. It is as phony and inaccurate as anything else that has come from the right, and guys like this know it.
Tweetie,on our side? And Baby Huey?I thought Carl Rove was baby Huey.Is he on our side according to Hugh Hewitt? Is this guy a pundit? He`s got a real grasp of the way things are, doesn`t he? Oh! Wait a minute,Now I`ve got it,Chris Mathew`s is embedded with KO like when reporters were embedded with soldiers in Iraq and the pro-war retired Generals who were embedded with the networks.
I think that all those people are wacked out other than KO and John Stewartwho seem to be honorable men.Somehow I believe them.Limbaugh,Coulter,Savage,Mathews;no truth;no honor., much like Bush.
Neither side wants Chris Matthews.
Daisy@64: Most perceptive comment on entire thread.
Chris cares about neither left nor right, which would make him objective if he would just -PLEASE, GOD - get over himself.
Just wanted to say I like the name of your new award: "Hughie." It has a ring to it, kind of like when you've gathered a hocker from the back of your throat and let one fly. "Phatooy!" "Hughie!"
Onomatopoeia, pure and simple.
We have Rush; they have the Jon Stewart. We have Ann Coulter and Michael Savage. They have Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews.
That's not really all that ridiculous.
But...
the vast majority of the big name commentators are almost all genial in person, serious in thought, and respectful of their opponents dignity as human beings
...in reference to Rush, Coulter, and Savage? THAT'S ridiculous.
Prof_Pickles @ 57:
Yeah - I've mentioned that several times. Nobody seems to get it. But picking on fat people is a prejudice that is still accepted - even in more "enlightened" circles.
[CFK] Tender Vittles @ 67:
Comparing Olbermann to Savage and Coulter is ridiculous on so many levels, I don't even know where to being. Olbermann isn't a ranting, partisan nut. He calls out BS on both sides of the aisle and is basically one of the only mainstream journalists calling out the Bush administration on its failures.
Olbermann apologized for the Clinton comment people are ragging about. How many times have Savage and Coulter apologized for the many people they have threatened? And when are all the people on the left who have defamed Olbermann going to apologize?
Nice moobs Hugh!
This Reslug moron should think about having a breast reduction.
Nice tits Hugh!
"...A thrills a thrill", or --?
I think maybe Hugh would do well to adopt a healthier diet to go with his exercise regimen.
For now, he looks like a guy wearing mountains of junk food on his bones!
Hugh hewett, Rush, Shean Hanidy and others we are never going to let you off the hook, you are as quilty as the murdering Cheny gang after the fact. You have sold out your country for money. You better fake your own death that is your best hope.
Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage are genial in person, serious in thought, and respectful of their opponents dignity as human beings, really? They along with the likes of Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly are the quintessence of divisive patriotism which has done more to split this nation in two than all the media forces combined. Remember “United we stand divided we fall”?
Please OH please Hughie explain how those fact challenged lying tools are serious in thought when they continue to reduce complex topics to narrow talking points and dichotomous questions others can only agree with or risk being branded a traitor or leftist nut.
Get real!
OMG_Is this Harmonic Convergence???Just when I'm convinced this guy should get the hooey award,or is it phooey-damn, I flip to C-Span and here is this tool/fool being interviewed LIVE!! Twight Zone----Outer Limits----My God,I'm mad as Hell, and I'm nott gonna take it anymore!!!!!
Invisible tassles!
I don't know if Hugh Hewitt is being that preposterous with his statement. I would say the Right have more effective hatchetmen, people who's sole purpose is to discredit the other side by any means necessary. I think most people in the media probably fall in the category of lazy and misguided rather than deliberate attack dogs.
See all the pundits (including Hugh Hewitt in action) at Punditfight.blogspot.com
Matthews is a ass-clown..............
