Mike's Blog Roundup
Angry Bear: John McCain - A real standup guy with the solution to poverty.
TPM Election Central: The boys over at MSNBC have had to do a lot of apologizing to Hillary Clinton. But Tweety? He's an equal opportunity offender. Now we know why he's got such a crush on McSame.
VetVoice: Shades of Walter Reed? I never want to hear another word about flag pins and patriotism from Republican criminals , their warflogging enablers, or any of the obedient lapdogs of the corporate press.
The Largest Minority: Evo Morales calls for "reparations to the earth."
Booman Tribune: No one in mainstream media can compare to Peggy Noonan for rambling incoherence, but "the Dean" is a close second.
Halfway There: Iraqi Flag Appreciation Day

"If we want to save the planet earth, to save life and humanity; we have a duty to put an end to the capitalist system."
Evo Morales
It will be a tough sell to the party of the huns.
The party of the barbarians, but this list does not include the big ones.

I can understand the father's concerns on the vetvoice video regarding his son's current living conditions at Fort Bragg. Unfortunately though, that is all to common even during peace time on a lot of posts and bases. Don't go in expecting first class accommodations because you will be really disappointed.
You get used to seeing that sort of thing after a while though. During my security forces training we were stuck in what was said to be an old Japanese internment barracks used during World War II. In my particular case, My bunk was stuck next to a wooden window that wouldn't close and it snowed on my head just about every night. Then, when you went downstairs to the bathroom/shower area there was a pull string with a bare light bulb. There was no paint on the concrete walls and floors and the shower area consisted of a few shower heads with a concrete trench to provide drainage. The stuff that was in the drainage trench was plain nasty. The toilets as well left much to be desired. There was no privacy. Each toilet was placed so close together, with no partition in between that it was literally butt cheek to butt cheek. Needless to say, it was so dark and stinky down there than mice were a big problem.
As I said, you get used to living in such conditions. Most veterans know this all to well and many have probably experienced even worse living conditions than the one I described. Thats just the way it is unfortunately.
Oh, I've constantly fielded questions about how the military pay is great for enlisted troops because you don't have to pay rent. First off, obviously they have never seen an enlisted pay chart and always fail to remember that taxes are taken out of that as well.
They tend to change their tune when I tell them that (especially in the infantry) the housing that you get may consist of sleeping in a sleeping bag in whatever weather there is at the time or maybe a hooch with some other service man(tent). Still other times, you might get your "housing" in the form of a fighting hole you just dug and you might be in that hole for a while. I always used to dig a few shelves in the walls of the hole to put stuff in. Needless to say, the military has all sorts of "housing" that doesn't exactly fit what they envision.

Where are all the lapel pin patriots while real soldiers who chose to serve their country live in their own shit and go without proper medical care?
As to FT Bragg -- the unit and post CSM and S4s and their NCOICs should be relieved for cause. I've stayed in some barracks as old as Patton that weren't that crappy.

they've been poisoned into dogmatic stupor by the lead.
bad idea to wear those little pieces of crap. they all came over from china. yikes!
Thanks for the link to my post on the ill-fated Iraqi flag, Mike. I don't mean to pass myself off as a flag specialist, but there sure is a lot of flag news these days. The fuss over Obama's refusal to wear a flag pin is ramping up again, as if it means he doesn't really love his country. Haven't we learned by now that crooks and liars can wear flag pins? Here's a bunch of flag-wearing hypocrites in a post I wrote last fall.
