American Nonsense: FISA Fight: Hoyer, Blue Dogs, and Compromise (h/t Swimgirl)
The Brad Blog: How to cast a ballot in Indiana if you don't have a state-issued ID. Disenfranchishing the poor, minorities, and the elderly makes wingmutts happy. But it's not really a big deal to some of our trivia-obsessed journamalists.
Justice League: The lawyer for vice-president Dick Cheney claimed that the Congress lacks any authority to examine his behavior on the job.
Intel Dump: In his first public comments about the Iraq war since stepping down as the No. 2 official at the Pentagon, Paul Wolfowitz decided to open with a variant of the classic "mistakes were made" Washington mea culpa.
Poverty News Blog: Yesterday, while Bubble Boy was conducting the most fatuous press conference in human history, he refused to discuss Afghanistan, where war and narcotics have contributed to surging prices on diminished food supplies.

And the Biggie of the Day
Iran dumps U.S. dollar for oil trades
CNN.com - Apr 30 3:19 AM
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran, OPEC’s second-largest producer, has stopped conducting oil transactions in U.S. dollars, a top Oil Ministry official said Wednesday, in a concerted attempt to reduce reliance on Washington at a time of tension over Tehran’s nuclear program and suspected involvement in Iraq.
And getting virtually no play in the national MSM is the story out of Eastern Washington about how 6,700 tons of depleted uranium contaminated soil is being moved to Idaho for storage from Kuwait.

this sort of impunity is becoming the norm
cheney must be punished
NOT ONLY should he be tried, convicted, and imprisoned, a new NATIONAL HOLIDAY
should be established commemorating the day we squashed this petty tyrrant and his minions!!!!
I thought it was nifty how Bush blamed the 110th Congress for economic policies Bush enacted during the 109th Congress, with a little help from the GOP.
Afghanistan...who?
[snark]
Let's see, Cheney doesn't answer to Congress, he doesn't answer to Bush, he doesn't answer to the courts, he doesn't answer to Americans...
Who does the Veep answer to?
Leslie [Hussein] @ 6:
THE INTERNATIONAL MILITARY INDUSTRIAL CONGRESSIONAL MONETARY MEDIATAINMENT BIG PHARMA INSURANCE GLOBALIZATION COMPLEX!!!
marko @ 7:
You're clearly confused dear boy...Cheney doesn't answer to them either. He's an island!
marko @ 4:
I suspect the SS gets a few laughs out of posts like yours these days.
Most people only want to bury their heads in the sand and not face reality.
If ever it happens that I am faced with legal troubles I'll just have my lawyer go to court and tell the judge he's got no authority over me. I'm sure he can come up with a reason why. It doesn't matter. All I've got to do is have the lawyer say it. That makes it so. That's how it works now right?
Leslie [Hussein] @ 8:
You know what's really going to suck? When he dies peacefully in his sleep 20years from now in his big fluffy four poster king sized bed in a penthouse in Dubai.
MargeAggedon @ 10:
Quote Cheney.
Why bother with reality? Miley Cyrus and Reverend Wright is on MSM. Lord knows they are much more important than global warming, poverty, Iraq and lets not forget Afghanistan. God, the American people are such tools, or is it the media?
General Fallon steps down, the general who was against attacking Iran. General Petraeus is appointed to replace him. We know that Petraeus is a General who will follow bush orders without question. Today a second carrier is being sent to the Persian Gulf as a "reminder" to Iran.
Remember the large troup build up on the border of Iraq before bush declared war? Would we have these ships sitting in the Persian Gulf right now if they didn't plan to use them soon? I don't know, but I sure do wonder about it.
I think there is a real good chance Americans will "wake up" when one day Bush is on TeeVee announcing an attack on Iran has begun. Sometime between now and November.
I mean all that uranium from Iranian reactors has to go somewhere. Which is up, and circling the globe. For 5000 years.
pissed off patricia @ 14:
That's a fallacy about Fallon being against attacking Iran. He was a Bushie, that's why Bush appointed him. Fallon wasn't against attacking Iran. What he was against was the timing and logistics of an attack while we're also in Iraq and Afghanistan. He didn't think we had the manpower and such. But Bush makes his own reality, including imaginary troops, so he sacked Fallon.
"The lawyer for vice-president Dick Cheney claimed that the Congress lacks any authority to examine his behavior on the job."
and I say Eff that!! Examine his behavior on the job and fire his sorry, saggy ass!
LA, I'm not so sure anymore. I'm having a hard time accepting our complacency. It feels as if everyone has no interest in anything our government does. Only now, when gas prices are soaring, Americans start bitching. I guess we as a nation, have the attention span of gnats.
pissed off patricia @ 14:
If he bombs Iran, I think it will actually be enough to sink him!!! There is a line, as distant as it seems it does exist. There are still about 300,000,000 people in this country that aren't complete tools of the plutocracy!!
At least we can hope!!
marko @ 19:
I'm afraid at this point bush just doesn't give a damn. He knows his legacy is not going to be good so he'll do whatever he pleases. McCain wants to bomb Iran so maybe bush wants to beat him to it. I just have a real uneasy feeling about the pattern here.
Patty D. @ 13:
Fools. The American people are fools...and dullards...and dense, dumb, lazy...
Patty D. @ 18:
As long as people are willing to pay the price nothing will change.
We'll find out when gas hit's $8.00 a gal, butter is $4.00 per half pound, and cheese is $17.00 per two pounds.
pissed off patricia @ 20:
If the food shortages continue there won't be anyone strong enough to show any kind of resistance anyway. Not that anyone will.
shrub could bomb Ottawa, tell the world that the harper government had been planning on stealing America's cheese and people would probably wonder why they had preempted american idol for the announcement.
I hope we do bomb Iran. I hope gas goes to $10 a gallon, milk cost $9.00 a quart, bottled water costs $25 a gallon, fruits and vegetables become delicacies, and a draft is instituted.
LA, That is why I'm growing my own food and I'm going to buy chickens. My husband is freaking out, but when I told him how much our grocery bill was, he was suprisingly receptive.
right on! @ 17:
This is partially true. The real question here is whether or not torturing people is an official part of the Vice President duties. If the Vice President is acting outside of his official duties then Congress can go after him. The other question is; what exactly are the official duties of a Vice President? According to the Constitution, the Vice President gets to vote in the Senate when the Senate has a tie vote; other than that, the Vice President doesn't have any official duties. Cheney's arguement has some rather huge holes in it.
Is it really that hard to identify yourself? You need to get over the fact that the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of Americans actually want to verify the people voting are the people who signed up to vote. Typical democrat/liberal idea of what it would be like in Utopia!
Patty D. @ 25:
Gas $8 a gallon, butter $4.00 per half pound, and cheese is $17.00 per two pounds.
Thats what's happening in New Zealand right now. A place where a lot of Americans belived they could escape to live and be sheltered from all this crap going down. It worked for while but not anymore.
Patty D. @ 25:
I went and got a small business liscense for $75. Now I can shop at the wholesalers, cuts your grocery bill in half. The downside is you have to buy everything in cases; but, it works out really well if you got 2 or 3 families that are into it.
Leslie [Hussein] @ 6:
Satan.

If your afraid of Utopia, Hell is probably the perfect place for ya.
Of course one persons Idea of Utopia might not be exactly what the next person had in mind.
Patty D. @ 13:
Let's not forget American I-dull and Paula being "confused"!
People showing up at the polls looking to cast a vote while knowingly trying to use the identity of another person.
Sounds like a problem, but is it ?
Is this problem so huge that a "fix" is needed immediately ?
Verifying and properly counting votes is a much, much urgent issue, but no much is being done about it.
Dr. Acula @ 30:
B-b-b-ut I thought the veep was Satan?! Now I'm confused.

How we going to get oil from that region if they don't accept dollars?
Dr. Acula @ 38:
Justification for war is so PRE-9/11
L.A. Confidential @ 40:
We will have to buy the oil in foreign currencies. Of course, we will simply print even more dollars to do that, but that's ok, I'm sure your great great great grandchildren are good for the money.
Dr. Acula @ 38:
they would LUV to use this as an excuse. they would also LUV to pretend that the complete and utter devastating failure of the neoconservative and neoliberal systems didn't happen... and that somehow the "wisemen" are still relevant. i know cnn/faux/msnbc continues to broadcast the hot air from those that have helped cause this mess, but i think that more people are waking up to the fact that our govt/corporate/media elite are not only void of good ideas, but time and time again scrap and fight for a system that has proven to be disastrous
Liberal AND Proud @ 42:
Hahaha right how bout everyone says "not a bad idea "we don't need the fu*king United States and their bullshit anymore why should we put up with it?"
L.A. Confidential @ 44:
Do we buy Iranian oil before or after we bomb them?
Leslie [Hussein] @ 45:
What is the number one mindset of this Country. Americans think they OWN THE WORLD.
Big Mistake
batman @ 27:
Have a state-issued ID is not always easy. Not everyone, especially if they live in a city, has a driver's license. I know it's hard to grasp, but many poor people don't have cars and many elderly don't drive! First you have to get a state-issued birth certificate, which costs money, then you have to get your self to a location that issues state-approved ID, then you're ready to vote. And four years later, you gotta do it all again. I haven't seen the poll you cite about the "OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF AMERICANS" and what they want. History instructs us that the overwhelming majority of Americans have wanted a lot of bad things. There was a time when an overwhelming majority didn't think women should vote. There was a time when the majority thought buying and selling other human beings was a good idea. James Madison referred to "the tyranny of the majority." Majority rule isn't always how our democracy is designed to work. Besides, the Indiana law was put in place for one reason: To depress voter turnout, which always favors Republicans. Poor and minority voters don't vote Republican. Rich asshats do. There has never been a single case of voter fraud in Indiana which involved someone pretending to be another person. Not one. This law is fraud, GOP-style; get the Supreme Court to co-sign your election-fixing. Does anyone remember ever seeing that before? I do.
Did the Fed cut the rate again? It can't bear to watch MSM, it induces vomiting.

It's already happening, thanks to Warpig, but very soon the entire world will be telling the United States to go Cheney yourself!

Dr. Acula @ 49:
Can't the entire world tell us to go Cheney ourselves while Bush and Cheney are still in the White House?
President Vladimir Putin has told Iran's president that there will be continuity in Russia's relations with Tehran, RIA news agency quoted a senior Russian official as saying on Wednesday.
Oooops. Another slight complication in response to our biceps flexing.
Leslie [Hussein] @ 54:
In the world of diplomacy they already have.
Have any of our allies visited Bush lately. I don't mean some PM from some small nation, I mean REAL world leaders. Do they even talk about him, much less to him. You don't see the President getting any invitations for a national visit...do you? Is the Chimp making any plans to visit the UK, France, Germany as part of his "last lap" before he leaves office.
And please trolls, this has nothing to do with security. First, the WH can state they've been invited and leave the details out, and also...if the President of the U.S.A can't go anywhere in the world that he wants to, what does that say about our great intelligency agencies, military, security, etc.
No, our friends HAVE told us to go Cheney ourselves. Fuck, the Saudis gave Condi a fucking T-SHIRT and sent her on her way, like she was some little girl. They basically told the idiot son of George Herbert Walker Bush to go fuck himself with regard to oil prices.
The President is a JOKE as far as the world is concerned. I'm sure that there have been some VERY interesting diplomatic dinner talks between countries and our ambassadors with regard to what is going on.
Bush wants to bomb Iran so that Iran will refuse to sell oil to America.
This will give the American oil companies the ability to continue charging Americans high prices at the pump.
Bush refused to talk about a whole heck of a lot, but Afghanistan was one of the more glaring examples of bullying BS. Oh, and his insistence that more money to the rich (his "tax cuts") will help the economy.

Hey Mike did you see Carter oh so politely smack Chris Matthews upside the head after Matthews repeated unsubstantiated claims about Syria?
go check it out. When Matthews asked Carter if Syria would recognize Israel Carter responded "Yes' and then added that "22 middle east nations have all ready done this on three occasions"

Blue Gal: Getting to know your neighbors…
=======================
You go Blue Gal. Finally leaving Alabama. I wouldn't need any reasons to leave Alabama, as I have no reason to EVER go there. I have no interest in visiting any of the Southern states. Sorry folks, but of all the places in the world... Although, I have been to Florida in the winter time; for the beaches.
May you always have ready access to a steady supply of LEGAL vibrators in your new home.
