Jon Stewart took off the gloves and pummeled the media last night for it's non-stop, wall-to-wall coverage of The Most Important Issue Facing America, things a Presidential candidate's former pastor said.

The right-wingers and the media have been hating America for much longer than this guy. They must have forgotten about the Clinton years and Mitt Romney's recent 'change' campaign. Change what...if America is so goddamn good?
Wright is not the issue.
The issue is how Obama handled it.

He stands for nothing.
You should change the cartoon to show Hillary at the gas pump praising the Jeremiah Wright media coverage. Forget that, she doesn't remember how to pump her own gas.

Right. Barack Obama gave a national speech, addressing issues on race that our country needs to deal with. He has answered questions in debates, press conferences, Fox News, you name it. He has said that he finds Rev. Wright's comments offensive and unacceptable. How does that make him a coward? How does it prove that Senator Obama "stands for nothing"? How do you think he should have handled it? Please try to be specific.
Oh Please PeterDay, give us a break. Robertson, Hagee, all of the so-called leaders of the religious right have made inflamatory statements and hardly anybody calls them on it. Amd Americans now know it. The press is using Wright to deflect attention on the war, poverty, and Bush in general.

We are getting to know Obama now, and we need to know more about him than just from his speeches and autobiography. Wright was Obama's mentor and spiritual advisor. If he says that Obama is saying things he doesn't believe just because he is a typical Politician, people have a right to ask questions about it. Obama's weltanschuung and what his actions will be in the future should be evaluated and one of the best ways to figure that out is to find out who his chosen mentor and spiritual advisor is.

Wake up progressives, we have to be down with Reverend Wright. We must not help force Obama away from him, making a candidate leave his own church is not part of our democracy. No religious test for the oval office.
Can Obama turn the economy around? YES

Can Obama move to green energy? YES
Can Obama give health to the poor? YES
In 8 years Barack Obama can make great progress on these issues.
NONE of those things require religion, there is no god needed in these tasks. Education, Intelligence, and Judgement will be required to get things done.
His pastors personal views should not be a concern or a worry for anyone.
Rev. Wright is well within american main stream religion, and his views are found often in black churches. Only Wright is highly educated, outspoken, and has a few conspiracy theory's (most are true, but the Aids one puzzles me) and other quirky concepts to explain his faith and liberal politics. He is very liberal by the way, he is one of us. A strange and animated one, but still a liberal black man who spends most his time helping others in his community.
He is no where near as crazy as Pat Robertson, or Hagee. BTW

It's sad to see the media so divisive about everything they cover. Finally, Barack Obama is getting what he was spared until now. I take strong issue with what the media does for viewer ratings and advertising dollars.
This "hit" job they are doing on Obama comes out of fear. Obama is getting too strong and appealing to the voting populous. I truly believe the right-wing media machine thought they could control Obama's fame status. After all, they had a hand in bringing about his front runner status. I recall Hillary Clinton was the whipping horse, and I became disinterested in following the Democratic primary as a result of it. Every guest, every topic, and every negative the media could think of ended in a Clinton bashing session. The major contributer to the Clinton take down from front runners status was MSNBC and Chris Matthews; CNN and Wolf Blitzer was a close second.
"The front runner always gets this kind of negative press." Bullshit, the preceding line was generated to promote apathy and prevent viewer outrage. This kind of influence is a direct manipulation of our voting process. Have you notice John McCain does not get this kind of special attention from the non stop negative conservative media? Lets face it we are in the Conservative answer to the Democratic two to one voting advantage.
Be very skeptical of polls that show McCain neck and neck with either Clinton or Obama. First off the numbers don't add up. Every primary continue to show the Democrat's second best with enough votes to out number all of the Republican voters in their same primaries. Secondly, conservative polling strategies employ a group monopoly on who is ahead. In an effort to influence the averages of polls, you see polls from Gallup, CNN, and USA controlling the averages by combining pollsters. So you see polls that are produced by CNN/Gallup, CNN/USA or Gallup/USA coming out with numbers that say who they want to be ahead. The CNN group have totally taken over the national polls. After New Hampshire, they stop trying to influence individual primaries in this way. As many as 10 to 13 pollsters were wrong.
My point is this: You can't believe anything from the MSM. They have a conservative agenda, and the Democrats enjoy a growing advantage. That means the conservatives will be on the offensive big time.

(1) A couple of weeks ago, Wright was Obama's "spiritual mentor" of twenty-plus years, and like a member of the family who wasn't going anywhere.
(2) This stayed true right up to the point that Rev. Foams-At-Mouth became a public liability that Obama's camp couldn't spin away. Under the bus with you! Let me clarify that: Obama didn't ditch Foamy for being a psycho bigot; he ditched Foamy for not keeping his mouth shut and his head down like he was told to. ...Look everybody! Change!! Outsider!!
(3) The neo-progressive blogosphere (hi, C&L) actually comes out looking worse than Obama, because first they were squalling and squeaking that "Wright Is Right," while trying to have it both ways, in insisting that Obama was ALSO right to (suddenly) repudiate his foamings. No matter how he changes his stance from week to week, the cult has one rule: Obama Is Right.
(4) Wright, by himself, isn't a big deal; neither is The Snub. Neither is "Annie Oakley! Annie Oakley! Waaaaaa!" Nor is "Anyone who doesn't vote for me is a frustrated fundie gun-nut bigot, is what I'm trying to say." Nor is the stupidity regularly falling out of Michelle's open mouth, nor "Forget bowling! I'm shootin' hoops wif my homies! Uh, dawg." But a mountain can be made from many molehills, and Barack is piling them up as fast as he can. Try as he might, "Dr. Inclusive & Mr. Elitist" has nothing to blame but his own lack of experience. (But who needs that when you have empty blather about hope?)
(5) The neo-progs make themselves look worse still. Keith "Practiced Phony Outrage" Olbermann slipped up the other day and let out some vile eliminationist rhetoric about Hillary, and had to engage in some quick CYA. (Unaddressed here--surprise surprise.) And of course, there's Randi Rhodes, which WAS addressed here, shockingly--but many neo-prog commenters insisted that yes, it IS "progressive" to call SOME women "whore."
(6) Look, you're neo-progs. You want another Dem failure in '08. You were the ones who sang "Gore's a bore! Vote Nader or don't vote!" in 2000, and you're the ones who followed up with "Dean's mean! Kerry's scary! Vote Nader or don't vote!" in the years that followed. The only reason you're backing Obama now is that Nader has become too much of a joke even for the likes of you, and as for Hillary...well, the only pol a neo-prog hates more than a Republican is a successful, effective Dem.
Admit it: deep down inside, McCain makes you hot, for the same reason Wright foams at the mouth; fear of The Man keeps the flock in line.
Even I am surprised at how long the media obsession with Wright has persisted, day after day after day after day, all Wright all the time, even with no new news on the subject the whole time. It's like they've gone nuts.

I respectfully disagree. If you had spent 20 years as a parishioner in the Phelps church in Kansas, and performed your wedding ceremony, I would say that in my humble opinion that makes you an unsuitable candidate for public office. We can argue whether or not Wright is as looney as Phelps if you would like, but it doesn't affect the basic argument that a man's associations reflect significantly on his own character.
This might not be the case if Obama had not injected the religious issue in his campaign. But he made it an issue that he was a "religious" man. Well, now we know something more about his religion.
To use Bill Clinton's term, the biggest "fantasy" ever is that Hillary is still in the running. This was over in February. Hillary's only chance now is to engage in unadulterated character assassination, and she's been working at it fervently for two months now. It's completely fair to compare her to a Republican, since that's how they run every one of their campaigns. So if you want to talk about cowardly politics and "standing for nothing," HRC is your gal. If she stands for anything, it's personal avarice and ambition, not working-class Americans. A huge part of the electorate and thousands of new voters are inspired by the one candidate to show any real integrity in generations, and Hillary supporters are frustrated that they aren't inspired by anything anymore. There's no way in hell I'll vote for her or McCain in the general.

Here is where I must introduce a caveat.
If people’s memory serves, GWB talked in detail about policies and issues during the 2000 campaign. In fact, as incredible as it may seem now, he actually “out-greened” Gore with his policy intentions on carbon emissions. He actually said he wanted make these “mandatory” for every corporation in America. And we all painfully now know what his true intentions were. Not only did he stun his own EPA head Whitman with this reversal with no input but later went on to stun the world by pulling out of the Kyoto treaty altogether.
The point?
Politicians can talk all they want about issues and policies during a campaign and never pay a price when they turn their back on what they have pledged. It means nothing. They will say anything to get elected.
So at the end of the day, what in god’s name does it matter what they say? The only thing the voters can do when trying to figure out a candidate if by looking at who they are. And that means their character and those closest to them. If Americans really did that, it is my position that GWB would never have been elected. What the democrats should have pushing were his failures & lies and those around him. To believe a failed business man whose family is deeply entrenched in the oil industry would ever be eco friendly was just foolish. I never believed it for a second. But the buzz words I kept hearing was “compassionate conservative” – whatever the hell that is. The party was able to sell those 2 words and it got him elected.
Look at the person. Look at who they surround themselves with. Look at their achievements and their failures. In essence, look at their life. When you do this, and cut through the bull, you can pretty much see what will happen on major issues during their term.
That is why character matters. Because it will directly effect the issues that affect all of us.

Jon Stewart gets angry at the media on a political issue? Why doesn't Jon run for pres himself? Normally I like Jon's humor but when he tries to be all righteous and pretends he knows what's good for America--that's where I draw the line. Let the media do it's job (regardless of their bias). Like Jon's show isn't biased--what a hypocrite!
It's a sad state of affairs when people depend on a comedian to tell them what to think. People like Jon, Oprah and their ilk should stick to what they know best -providing comedic relief- instead of trying to be experts in the political arena. In the end they know nothing more about what is good for the average American than you and me. Make up your own minds about who to vote for and use your own values but use common sense above all else.
Common sense said Bush was an incompetent slacker. You could read the signs from his past drinking problems, mismanagement of the companies that were under his care and overall slacker image.

1: Everyone at one time or another knew or was friends with someone that did or said something that was questionable this does not reflect on ones character so much as you may think. Noone in this world agrees with someone 100% of the time or takes every comment humans have a tendacy to spew out as thier personal mantra. Look at how he reacted to the comments, look at the speech he made about addressing the elephant in the room (racisim), look at how he castized the media for distracting us from the real issues then "judge" his character. Doing so will provide one with better insight to his true character.
