Rising Hegemon: Winning friends and influencing people

Economist's View: The question for financial markets is how deep the regulatory repair needs to go.

Corrente: Required listening...

Fables of the reconstruction: Nice framing. Certainly not elitist.

Whiskey Fire: A Rasmussen survey indicates a startling increase in the number of folks who identify as Democrats. Not surprising since after almost eight years of G-Dub, and six years of total GOP control, there's not one single policy they can point to and say, "this was a success." But they do have this.

Steve Audio: Steve cites the estimable Charles Pierce, who knows how to spot it, and cut through it.

So, the powers that be and megarich tycoons are planning a 6 billion dollars upscale condo, super shopping mecca. Well, I thought we were spreading democracy, but I guess Bush meant commercialism.

Don, for weeks now, Pat Buchanan has stated we will strike Iran before the summer, I guess he is right. This is terrifing. All last summer, I woke up with a horrible suspcion it would happen then, but it didn't. Now I have the same fear in the pit of my stomach. I guess the Neo-cons will get what they want.

What the hell is with Clinton's framing of economists using the "elitist" tag all about? She seems to be talking out of both sides of her face, one, bringing up the term "elitist" to appeal to the "regular folk" and two, mimicking GW's classic refrain "I listen to my generals.".

P.D.'s picture

sharkcellar, I don't think Hillary can go any lower. This elitist bullshit isn't fooling anybody. I cant wait for the primary to be over. This is pathetic. I'm reduced to watching King of the Hill reruns, becuase I can't stomach MSM anymore.

Is really quite simple, they think her gas tax plan is bunk and if you don't agree with her, you must be an elitist.

I'm sure this article, along with many others like it will have the Christian fundies absolutely terrified.  I just don't see why a lot of people feel threatened when they find out that a orangutan, chimp, or some other primate can learn new things and reason on their own.  To me, its great stuff! This also has a great video of Azy the orangutan that is able to count.

It's a dog whistle to remind voters they should view Obama as an elitist and anyone else who is a thinking rational person should be seen the same way. It reminds me of how bush gets his all cowboy, down home, kind of attitude when he is talking to middle America. We've seen this movie before.

Not just Hillary. Read these crazy bloggers, anyone who goes against Clinton, is either stupid, irrelevant, or elitist. They've turned on Rep. Lewis(Ga), Gov. Richardson, Micheal Moore, etc., anyone who bolts against Hillary.

Don't hold your breath. I wish someone could add up the number of times the cable news channels have brought up the subject of wright in just the past week. I'm starting to think the "R" in HRC stands for Rove.
I would have voted for her a year ago, but now that I've watched her campaign, it's all changed. I am seeing all the negatives I expect from republicans. She's nothing but another wealthy Washington insider who'll do anything to win.
Apologies to her supporters for this rant, but she's not the person I thought she was a decade ago. If this is "experience", I'd vote for inexperience.
Finally - NY really was just a stepping stone. She doesn't deserve their support either.

More on the investigation and trial that dare not speak its name in the MSM or the so called "progressive" blogosphere.

http://www.jewishsf.com/content/2-0-/module/displaystory/story_id/35149/...

Phase II of the SSCI, the Aipac/Rosen espionage investigation/trial and other isssues that the MSM is not reporting on
The completion of Phase II of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence was mentioned on C-Span’s Washington Journal this morning. It was mentioned how sections of the investigation including the Office of Special Plans had not been completed.

Tim Starks of the Congressional Quarterly discussing U.S. Intelligence issues. He talked about the incomplete Phase II of the SSCI
http://www.c-span.org/homepage.....iveDays=30

Also on C-Span on the same program a mention of how the MSM has not touched the investigation of the Aipac/Rosen espionage trial. Worth the listen

I Called the United States Court Eastern District of Virginia/Alexandria division this morning (703-299-2102) spoke with Kathy about the U.S. vs.Rosen/Weissman case #05CR225) she said there were two motions today having to do with that case. She believed the public could attend today at 5:22 and 5:29 p.m. at 401 Courthouse square Alexandria Virginia.

We know the MSM has barely whispered anything about this investigation or trial. Chris Matthews once whispered that the trial had been delayed once again. According to several people at the Courthouse a trial date will more than likely be set at some point.

Wonder if the MSM will ever turn their spotlight on this critical investigation and trial. The American public are completely in the dark about this

Justin Raimando over at antiwar.com has written about this investigation and trial.

True, Diamond. I am one of the people you are rightfully criticizing. I can't wait to go after McWar. But when some of the bloggers here put out absolute lies on Obama supporters claiming that whites are supporting Obama because of "white guilt" suggesting that Obama has no qualifications but white people feel guilt and sorrow for him and black people, well McFraud will have to wait. If I as a Obama supporter don't address that unfounded racial bullshit immediately,I feel we'll go down like John Kerry before the general election. I'll stop my attacks and concentrate on McCrazy when the Hillary followers stop the lies and the race baiting.

The neo-cons started beating the pre-emptively attack Iran war drum immediately after the illegal invasion of Iraq. Reuel Marc Gerecht, Micheal Ledeen, John Bolton, Cheney, Bill Kristol, Ari Fleisher, the Kagan's, Richard Perle, etc were all over the MSM and talk radio ( I heard Bolton repeating all sorts of unsubstantiated claims about Iran on Neil Conan's Talk of the Nation last year) Neil did not challenge him once when Bolton was going on and on about what a threat Iran is.

Russert let Cheney repeat all unsubstantiated claims about Iran several years ago. Did not challenge him.

More recently Chris Matthew allowed Senator McCain to get away with repeating these false claims about Iran.

George Stephanapoulous did the same with McCain recently. Stephanpoulous repeated some of the Iran hogwash himself.

Now we have Senator Clinton saying she will "obliterate" Iran.

This stage has been set for quite some time and the MSM has not challenged these claims about Iran.

Posted this over at the economist on the dreaded R word, regulation, but since I got there from here, I thought I'd throw it in at C & L as well, which I do peruse regularly. The argument about regulation of financial markets needs to open up in every way, not just band aid reshuffling of the usual suspects, and here's my comment:

Perhaps the reason that an institution or arrangement is "too big to fail" lies in a more fundamental question, the nature and application of modern money. Maurice Allais compared modern banking to legalized counterfeit. Milton Friedman in earlier iterations proposed 100% reserve requirements for banks, seperating the functions of holding deposits and investment, denying them the ability to create and destroy money through the letting and calling of loans. Ronnie Philips in his book "The Chicago Plan & New Deal Banking Reform" illustrates the missed opportunity of the Great Deppression.
If Money were constituted in a sane manner there would be no such thing as a "liquidity crises" and these firms would simply be allowed to fail, which would have zero effect on liquidity. When the entire economy is dependent on the investor class for its medium of exchange there will never be a different outcome. In the modern world the fox not only guards the hen house, the fox owns it. The rest of us live on chicken shit.
