UPDATE: NBC has declared Obama the projected winner of North Carolina; Indiana "too early to call"

UPDATE #2: Indiana is now "too close to call" with key precincts projected for Obama yet to fully report; at this time, Clinton has 51%; Obama 49%. Perhaps as a signal of how close the count has become, MSNBC is reporting that Clinton has canceled all scheduled appearances for tomorrow.

UPDATE #3: MSNBC is now calling Indiana for Clinton. However, final counts from some precincts will not be in until tomorrow morning.

Like voting matters anymore.

Clinton isn't the winner

This just in:
The Clinton Camp says only the first 5% reporting in really count

Why is McCain listed?

The worst part and the most destructive part of this process is that it is letting McCain off the hook. With no pressure on him at all, he is becoming overly tired and having many "senior moments", lying, flipping, breaking down, etc. McCain can't survive a 4 month campaign, but he probably could survive this boondoggle of a two month campaign.

BennyP @ 2:

Like voting matters anymore.

LOL, you already figured it out too? MSNBC is already spinning North Carolina as "400,000 people voted 20 days early before Reverend Wright so their votes are probably for Obama but they shouldn't count because a vote for Obama is a vote for Reverend Wright." Even if the votes do count, North Carolina has a lot of Black people and states with caucuses, smaller than Texas, or have a lot of Black people don't count.

So the beat goes on.......

pete @ 5:

Why is McCain listed?

Yeah. Who else can win or cares?

Putting the parties side by side is misleading. repugs don't have the numbers.

So will Clinton finally quit tonight?

Hillary changed the goal post once again today concerning the number of delegates needed to win the nomination. In my mind that goes beyond testicular fortitude, and I'm not sure there's even a word for it.

Damn it was a good joke, but you messed it up.

my favorite thing about the results so far is that obama can only go up...

Ha, wait until the convention when she argues that according to the original Bill of Rights, Black people were only considered to be 3/5ths of a person so they can only make 3/5ths of a vote. So every Black vote, Black pledged delegate, and Black Superdelegate will count as 3/5ths to give her the lead.

Now that the Diebold machines have tallied their results we can start adding up the real votes.

pete @ 5:

Why is McCain listed?

In case Hillary loses. He's a perfect back-up.

So far the hard drinking , preacher-hatin' , gun-totin' good 'ol girl from Scranton via Yale leads Indiana 60 to 40 . Enjoy your free partial tank of gas this summer, Hoosiers .

One half the voters in Indiana considered Rev. Wright as "significant" in their decision. Congrats MSM. Mission Accomplished!

My stomach hurts...

Do I just not understand, or is Obama leading in delegates 5 to 4 while getting whooped popular vote wise? Can't remember which one counts more this week though. Gotta go ask Hill.

Freudian maybe !

My bet is Clinton will be the Candidate.

Will be interesting to see what effect that Clinton 'sniper rifle' mailer attack on Obama has.
Can she sink that low (below the gutter and down into the drains) and still win ?

Sadly, yes, she could sink lower and probably will

Predictions:

Sen. Clinton will win more delegates in Indiana.

Sen. Obama will win more delegates in North Carolina.

The media will report that Clinton "won Indiana" and that Obama "won North Carolina."

Clinton will vow to stay in the race at her victory party.

Obama will welcome Clinton's continued challenge at his.

All the talking heads who said that this round would settle the election will now say that the next round will settle the election.

The next round will not settle the election.

By who, just wondering? Was that from a specific commentator?

j @ 9:

So will Clinton finally quit tonight?

If she doesn't she in it for herself and for her husband's ego.

I wonder if bill will sell monica a night in lincoln's bedroom?

YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NC is called for Obama. Now it is impossible for Clinton to take the lead on pledged delegates. Her only chance to win at this point is to change the rules to give her the delegates from Florida and Michigan (where Obama wasn't even on the ballot), or have the superdelegates overturn the will of the people and give it to her.

Either one of those two options will fracture the Democratic party for a generation by alienating African Americans and young voters who have come out in force to support Obama. It's time she does what is best for the party and withdraw. If she keeps this up the people from New York, like me, will get back at her in the 2012 Senate election.

cv @ 29:

By who, just wondering? Was that from a specific commentator?

If your comment was about my comment....

Well I'm watching MSNBC and the narrative being discussed between Keith, Chris, Tim and Tom is 92% of Blacks supported Obama so that is how he won. And if that's the case, how will they respond if Hillary is the nominee. Overall, I find it to be VERY dismissive and everyone is still talking up the "rural voters" in Indiana even though North Carolina counts as a BIG STATE.

Only Tim Russert is using common sense by saying Hillary is running out of real estate and she needed to win both to make any convincing argument. And his number with White voters is up in NC.

Why are all these ridiculous pundits saying they asked the voters in Indiana about Rev Wright? Did they also ask about Bosnia lies or mention that over 200 economics experts saying Hillary is wrong about the "holiday" and that she is just pandering (lying)?

Wow, NC closed after Indiana and they have already predicted Obama the winner.

MSNBC is saying that the Obama camp is looking to work out a deal on Florida and Michigan with Hillary so she can concede with dignity. May 20th is D-Day they say because at that point, she is mathematically eliminated from winning on pledged delegates.

It's going to play out however it plays out.

Just look at Kerry and the image he carries around now.

Hey mudshark! Yeah, but this is a primary. At some point your money runs out, your support runs out and you can ruin your future by refusing to exit gracefully. Don't you? Kerry was a different story. It wasn't a primary and he had nothing to lose (so to speak) and should have fought that to the bitter end.

How naive do you have to be to honestly think that any of the candidates could even enter the race if they were an atheist? We can't even get a normal European-like candidate; not one candidate will provide a single-payer Universal Health Care System. Honestly, the right-wing parties in France are communists compared to the Democrats.

Atheists do on occasion fill their grammar with religious expletives, I catch myself often invoking a non existent deity.

As it stands now on my little spreadsheet, Obama could come away with a plus 16 delegates for the day, net, and a plus 130,000 votes, net.

It will be interesting to see how Clinton parses this into a victory, of any sort.

That is low considering there is 156 delegates in NC.

Hillary Clinton makes me ill. Her strategy of attacking Obama to win is so low-ball that she should be ashamed (but never will) of her desperate tactics. Hillary is in this losing position because she thought it was her's by some divine right of King's that all Mrs. Clinton had to do was show up and it was for the taking. Clinton has acted like a big baby and spoiled brat who kicks and screams and rants on about others and will do anything to anyone in her way, because of a tantrum she is having.

Clinton's tirades and other nonsense is appalling. I actually voted for Hillary over Obama in CT, but, her actions have done nothing but to help divide the Democratic Party that her husband Bill also set out to destroy with the awful "Welfare Reform" bill.

Samantha Power was correct---Hillary Clinton is a "Monster."

Perhaps, I will vote for John McCain, should Hillary get the nod in some dirty ploy down the road. The Democratic Party is a joke these days and its only because the right-wing is dormant that the Democrats will win in November, but Clinton's actions are an embarrassment to decent living people.

If Gary takes this from her she'll be sunk by this speech.

Only two minutes into Hillary's speech and to me she appears totally ungracious and equally uncommitted to defeating the Republicans in November. I'm more convinced now than ever that it's more about her and the Clinton "legacy" than anything else. I'm depressed again.

Three minutes into the speech and the pandering continues. F her.

If I understand the rules correctly (which I might not), it would not be against the rules to seat half of the delegates from each state that violates the calendar. I haven't done any math relating to what that would mean for Clinton's delegate count.

Either one of those two options will fracture the Democratic party for a generation by alienating African Americans and young voters who have come out in force to support Obama. If the "big state" argument carries any weight at all (which it doesn't), Obama's potential to carry North Carolina in the general election by turning out the African American vote more than ever before would mark a significant victory for the Democrats.

I think we have a better chance at taking Virginia, where we should campaign like hell in the general. But if we managed to take North Carolina, it would give us an even better edge in the electoral college.

yes please fix the major typo, it hurts looking at that.

I can't and don't speak for the entire Black community, like no individual Black person does regardless of how loud they are (Sharpton) or what the MSM may portray, but the "water cooler" discussion I'm hearing is that if Hillary steals the nomination.......then there's going to be a grassroots movement for Blacks to still turn out and vote in record numbers, but write-in Barack's name.

so - you are listing clinton as winning NC?

What's up with green check next to HRC in NC box? Not a funny prank there CNL!¡

Why do I get a sinking feeling about this, I keep seeing Hillary coming out on top, don't ask me why. But any other candidate would have pulled out by now, but she is determined to run until the end. Does she have something up her sleeve?

C'mon, you gotta find some humor in any desperate candidate who can mention Burma, Michigan, and Florida within three sentences of each other.

Don't forget 9/11.

I think North Carolina and Virginia are in play as well. Pennsylvania will stay with the Democrats once the media brings up Hagee and his comments about Catholics.

Geoff @ 45:

What's up with green check next to HRC in NC box? Not a funny prank there CNL!¡

It's not the check mark that's wrong. It's the name. NBC already called it. It'll be fixed.

wtf is going on the NC stuff?

joe

HELLO.... there is a check mark by Clinton's name and intoxination has the results for Obama (58%) and Clinton (32%) mixed up

Amen

Obama's cleaning up in the South...I guess they don't want to vote for a black guy in the oh so politically correct and open minded North and the Midwest.

Does this mean that the Yankees and Midwesterners are the new racist rednecks? Can us Southerners let you guys take that claim for a while? Ha ha...

bushflipflops @ 32:

NC is called for Obama. Now it is impossible for Clinton to take the lead on pledged delegates. Her only chance to win at this point is to change the rules to give her the delegates from Florida and Michigan (where Obama wasn't even on the ballot), or have the superdelegates overturn the will of the people and give it to her.

Either one of those two options will fracture the Democratic party for a generation by alienating African Americans and young voters who have come out in force to support Obama. It's time she does what is best for the party and withdraw. If she keeps this up the people from New York, like me, will get back at her in the 2012 Senate election.

Spitzer for HRC seat in 2012 sounds good to me.

UPDATE: NBC has declared Obama the projected winner of North Carolin[a]...

then why is there a check next to hillary's name up there?

North Carolina must be a small state. Or a caucus state. Or a state that doesn't count.

You assume the media will bring that up. ;)

Democrats absolutely MUST NOT ignore Virginia. If we can keep all the states that Kerry won in 2004, we can win the election by adding Virginia and New Mexico.

That is VERY, VERY POSSIBLE.

This site gives the 6 different scenarios for seating MI and FL. Under all circumstances Obama still leads. cool site.

Sorry, yes it was, and I'm totally with you. Though it's a crazy day indeed if Tim Russert is using common sense.

I CAN'T BELIEVE MY FREAKIN' EARS!!!

Joe "I love Hillary" Scarborough is actually the first talking head to say that if Obama wins by double digits in North Carolina then this race is over. That there is no reason to continue the race beyond tomorrow because Hillary won't be able to win on any of her core arguments.

If that's the case, this will be a GREAT night because the media is about to do another 180 and start questioning why Hillary is staying in the race if she can't possibly win? They're going to ask her that after Obama had the worst three weeks of his political career, why couldn't you make up any ground in NC and doesn't his win there fly in the face of your BIG STATE argument?

Indiana will tighten because Gary, the fifth largest city and 87% black, is in the central time zone while the rest of the state (except for the southwest tip) is counting an hour ahead.

The company that does the tabulating for the various elections is owned by the MSM.
VEP is its most recent name I think, changed names three times so far to avoid its past bad rep.

Mister Anderson @ 15:

Rico @ 10:

Hillary changed the goal post once again today concerning the number of delegates needed to win the nomination. In my mind that goes beyond testicular fortitude, and I'm not sure there's even a word for it.

Youve seen the Diebold code then...

This just in from the Clinton Camp...

Virginia is possible, but McCain has a better shot at New Mexico due to his relationship with hispanic voters, and it's the state next door to his home state. But Iowa will definitely be in play.

The next round will not settle the election.

then the 'liberal' MSM goes back to promoting Wright 24/7 and why Obama is BFF with him, and implied scary black radical stuff.

She threw out the washer and dryer in this speech. Burma? Burma?

I know they are having a tragedy, but she mentioned it in a part of her speech where it didn't fit. Like they wrote down notes of what she should talk about and rushed to put them together while they were driving over.

It was pretty schizophrenic. She went from strident-commander-in-chief hillary and then soft squishy hillary and back again.

If Gary takes this from her she'll be sunk by this speech.

at this point, i don't think they mathematically can, but it will still be close.

72% of the city alone will put him ahead.

kos says he needs to take 57% of Lake Co. and that is a tall order but "we'll see". Man, if Gary snatches victory from the jaws of Clinton, it will be the first time in my life that I'll be saying that I am proud to be from da Region.

Maybe you have already commented on this, but the mayor of Gary is predicting a massive turnout for Obama--apparently that's why the race hasn't been called yet. This was just posted on the WaPo web site.
