FDL Book Salon With Digby and Sen. Harry Reid
The fabulous Digby is hosting and moderating FireDogLake's Book Salon this afternoon with Sen. Harry Reid, discussing his latest book The Good Fight: Hard Lessons From Searchlight to Washington, beginning now at 2:00pm PDT/ 5:00pm EDT.
If you have some questions for the Senator, who has risen from his beginnings in a ramshackle cabin with no indoor plumbing in the Nevada desert to Senate Majority Leader, go on over and say hello.

What fight? I didn't see any fight out of Congress.
So when does it begin? The good fight, that is.
Ask Reid why he and Pelosi have failed to live up to their promises for me.
Ask how both he and Nancy sit upright without any spine?
Out plugging books while the countries falling apart.
Too bad his last name isn't Cox.
No Thanks!
:D
Senior Democrats on the Senate Appropriations Committee are pushing back against Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) for suggesting he might bypass their panel and send a massive emergency war spending bill directly to the Senate floor.
Harry? Waz up wit dat?
I can see "The Pussy fight" ...."The Food Fight"....."The Non-Fight"....but
"The Good Fight"? Sorry Harry, that ain't you.
Here's another title for it: "Forgive me for letting everyone down"
Sorry Harry. Were not that dumb, gullible, and forgetful guy.
Question for Harry: Why are you such a putz and sell us all out when it won't benefit the republicans? You and Lieberman starting your own think tank? (Don't you need to be able to think to do that?)
r @ 9:
His life has been a fight, regardless of whether or not he's letting you down now. And that's what his book is about, and I believe that's something people ought to respect.
I knew when I saw this thread that individuals were going to come in and bitch about Congress. It's frustrating to be so hideously right.
And in Reid's defence (though I do agree that he could have done more, and can do more, in Congress), the Congress is split down the middle right now - mostly thanks to individuals like Lieberman. Furthermore, the President has been repeatedly vetoing bills, with a frequency that is far out of line.
Hey, on Sirius Buzzsaw yesterday: 'Is Hillary Clinton starting to look like the Democratic Parties psycho ex-girlfriend?'
Yeah, 'the good fight'. Liek the catholic church fighting pedophilia. They just keep fighting (and losing)...
I still think unless more Democrats take Congressional offices to further the gap needed so they no longer have to cut deals with republicans, Obama may be no more effectual than Reid.
I cut cheese.
Meat @ 13:
So you believe Reid is the only guy in this country who's had to fight, hurt, and suffer for everything they earned?
Don't think so.
I'm sure Reid has had to fight, he's a Mormon, and to a lot of Christians that's tantamount to admitting one belongs to a cult.
Believe me, I know, I was raised a Mormon.
PinkyLeftBrain @ 14:
Two suggestions: one, stay on-topic for more than three minutes; two, stop marginalizing women.
L.A. Confidential @ 17:
Straw man. I never even insinuated such.
I'm afraid that Harry didn't fight "The Good Fight" - he caved on so many things - the war, FISA, pretty much everything that's important. He may be a good man, but he's in the wrong job. We need a dedicated patriot with a solid backbone in his seat. And in Nancy Pelosi's seat as well.
This book should be on the front page of the Onoin.Reid is a flippin coward.
Did Harry mention in the book when the good fight would occur?
What a freaking joke.
What happened to the Dems "Six for '06" policy agenda? Not one of those bills has been signed into law.
What we got instead was a beefed-up board to oversee congressional pages in the wake of the Mark Foley scandal, the renaming of six post offices, including one for Gerald R. Ford in Vail, Colo., as well as two courthouses, including one for Rush Limbaugh Sr. in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Okay I've expressed my frustrations.
Screw Harry Reid (and Digby and FDL).
question: you were elected is 06 to specifically end the war, since then there has been a troop escalation and the war rages on with the possibility of being extended into Iran, why have you betrayed the american people ?
Senator Reid's book sounds very interesting. I'm sure it will be fascinating to learn about how Reid had to struggle growing up to get where he is today. With that being said, the "fighter" that many politicians once were or try to make themselves out to be are no longer there. Its like they have given up that fight when they finally obtained high office. For example, McCain is constantly being made out to be some sort of "maverick". Well in my opinion, to be a maverick one has to go against the grain as they say. McCain does not go against the grain. Instead, he eventually bends to its will. Reid, and many other politicians tend to be the same way and we see this reflected in their current low poll numbers. These are no longer the people that struggled or had to fight their way up the ladder. The people we see today now seek conformity in order to remain where they currently are at.
andy @ 28:
Exactly. At this point about the only that can be done is pound the Middle East into submission until they surrender and get with the program. Or just pull out and accept we blew it, we're going to pay $8 bucks a gal while Iraqis pay 50¢ a gal. Etc, etc.
What a freaking mess.
The Good Fight
It's a comedy, right? More precisely a farce.
Meat @ 13:
I don't respect people that have zero respect for me.
Harry, why did you act like such a milquetoast on The Daily Show? I thought you only acted that way in front of the Senate.
The Good Fight is meant as a fight against everything that democrats hold dear.
Screw you Harry.
I don't know that much about Harry Reid, but I do know that he has been an ineffective Majority Leader. I know that we have the slimest of majority in the Senate, but he has not used the power of aggenda control and he has caved when it was not necessary. Harry has been an enabler more than a leader. I hope we get a new and tough DEM leader in '09. He may be an honorable man, but he is out of his element.
He has put up a fight. He defended Bush against the democratic party constituents.
He fought the people, to keep the war going.
Both he and McCain are mavericks. They are against every principle that they stand for.
I'm sick of these meatballs telling us of how they started from nothing
and rose to a position of power.
Let them do something for us, for a change.
He can take his plumbing and do what he likes with it.
What a Joke. The Good Fight? My Grandmother had more fight in her, and she's dead.
At a crucial time when this country desperately needed to have a few leaders in Congress who took their oath seriously to defend the Consititution, we get this weak man. Reid is an appeaser just like Pelosi.
L.A. Confidential @ 30:
Yeah. Those damn buggers in Iraq got it so good!
I know this isn't what you were suggesting, but that's how it comes across. To a certain extent, I can appreciate that Americans care more about their some-odd thousand lost troops than they do the potential million-plus deaths in Iraq, but there are also times wherein I am left wondering whether or not they care at all about how badly they have raped a country, the millions dead and/or affected by death, ad infinitum.
ysbaddaden @ 18:
Not to mention the magical underwear itch like hell.
"Fight"? Haha, that's a laugh.
The only this guy fights for is his political payments.
Seems Senator Reid has indeed forgotten where he came from. I haven't forgotten where I came from. I do have one question for him: What do you think American Patriot citizens should do with traitors that pretend to represent the people but instead enable fascists to dismantle democracy, extingush liberty, invade personal privacy, ignore the Constitution, suspend the rule of law, and negate justice? Just curious...
Hmmm. Interesting definition of the words "Good" and "Fight".
Better to say "Safe" and "Evasion"...Cuz the "Good Fight" doesn't include bringing war criminals to justice.
Pathetic.
I don't give a shit about his personal or political history. what has he done to uphold his own oath to the constitution? NOTHING in recent memory. 'nuff said! There's nothing to defend, as he has done nothing.
Restore the Constitution @ 38:
we had wellstone once. then there was this "accident" with the plane he was in....
give em hell harry , give em the ol razzle dazzel hell give em all the rest of our dough for iraq~
Meat @ 39:
It didn't come across that way to me. I read into it that some people are making huge profits from this situation. While ineffectual Milquetoasts write books about how great they were.
I went, I read, I learned nothing.
What a pointless exercise.
The following is a comment about your
leadership as well as Ms. Pelosi’s.
Remember when Dick Durbin said that
Guantanamo Bay was like a Russian gulag
and the Dem leadership - which would be you
and Steny Hoyer et al made him apologize
the next day on the floor of the Senate because
of the outcry from Bush? Last year Pete Stark called
Bush a homicidal maniac in so many words and Pelosi
made him apologize the next day because of the
outcry from Bush. Bush/Cheney are really homicidal maniacs
and must be impeached. The Dems are little, itty bitty
mice who are terrified of speaking up. In the words of
Helen Gurley Brown they’re “mouseburgers.” They are
emotional eunuchs who have cost this country
what’s left of its heart and soul. Hillary has the crazies
terrified which is why they’ve assasinated her.
Dean also scared them so they did the same to him.
Gore and Kerry both won but assasinated themselves.
But they’re all wealthy so they won’t suffer. We put you in
charge in 2006 to get us the (blank) out of Iraq…well
we’re still waiting. The Republicans go for the throat
and the democrats go for brunch. Which is why Obama’s
call for unity is absurd. I want to see a schorched earth
democratic campaign. Nothing more or less will do.
Wouldn't even use it for kindling. Nice to see that the little weasel's ability to enrich himself hasn't been hindered by his job or an ongoing war or any of those other little annoyances.
History will remember this question as the great mystery of our time: Why has the Democrat leadership in Congress declared impeachment "off the table"? The last few years have seen the greatest crimes ever committed by a president, in fact the greatest criminal enterprise in history, and Harry Reid is pulling a Neville Chamberlain.
I will never send another dime to the Democratic Party until these war criminals in the White House are punished.
Dave @ 51:
I won't send another dime until they get rid of the Milquetoasts in the party, and start vetting those who want "Democrat" after their name.
Go to Hell Harry. You make me sick. You sold us (the Democrats) out after we all supported you. I wouldn't pay 2 cents for your filthy book. You should be ashamed of yourself! Now please get out of the Senate. You've been a miserable failure.
harry you old bum!
I can see now why Reid treats the party like a $2 whore.
quite fitting that the next thread is about joe LIEberman
Well, Tepid Tea left FDL once the substantial Lieberman questions, FISA questions, the weak Dem congress, ensuring actions on investigations and any question stronger than "How did you get to be such a great senator from such a humble beginning" started coming in.
But he answered some of the insipid questions. Isn't that great...
And what really got to me was that he pointed out getting rid of Gonzo a great accomplishment, but then never answered the natural follow-up question which was asked: Was it so great when we got Mukasey in his place?
I commend him for overcoming obstacles in his life. Too bad he couldn't overcome his obstacle of doing his fucking job. 'Vote for us 06' was a blatent rip off to us Dem voters. I will never fall for that shit again.
The good fight? Aaahahahahahahahaha!!! That's like Clarence Thomas singing, "I'm black, and I'm proud".
Dear Harry,
Rename your book "The good pussy". 1) It would be true about you. 2) That title would probably get guys like me to buy the damn book.
IF YOU WANT TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE.....
MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOU ALWAYS REFER TO JOHN "THE REPUBLICAN" MCCAIN
WITH INCLUDING HIS MIDDLE NAME....
........THE CHURCH HATES IT... HIS HANDLERS HATE IT.... THEY DONT WANT THE PARTY AND THE CANDIDATE IN THE SAME SENTENCE......... NOTICE HOW MCCAIN (THE REPUBLICAN) NEVER WEARS HIS PARTY LIKE THE LAPEL PIN THEY ARE.
Hillary may have bigger balls than Harry .
Shouldn't this idiot's book be titled "Scared of my own shadow"? or at the very least it should be titled "Cave the good cave" because that's all he does. Why this jerk doesn't do his job? Why he won't do what the American public is screaming for is beyond me!
It's Democrats like Reed who make the Democratic party look like a bunch of wimps who can't hold their own in a fight...let's get Feingold to replace Reed and we'll see some fucking fighting!
Just change the title to "Harry Reid: The Good Gimp."
Harry Reid is worthless. Pelosi too. Both are actualy repukes, DINO's.....
It's been so long ago that Reid did any "good-fighting", if ever, it's the same as if he's never done it at all. Especially in light of his recent history. He's a corrupt, gutless, fascism-enabling POS who should do the nation and the world a favor and retire. Today.
"Hello" wasn't what I had in mind ...
Pretty weak, and what's even worse, the title is completely unoriginal. I'm reading a book with the exact same title written by Ralph Nader a few years ago. I think I'll like Ralph's better, I don't think I'll ever... 'reid' this one. Get it? Ha
ps- if anyone spouts 'Nader/2000/Florida' shit, I'll scream.
J
