Supporting The Troops, Bush-Style

C&Ler "Z" sent this link to a letter to the editor of the Colorado Springs Gazette:

SUPPORT THE TROOPS
Many soldiers missing out on Bush's stimulus checks

In August 2006 the 10th Mountain Division, 2nd BCT, 1-89 Cavalry was sent to Iraq for 12 months. In April 2007, the troops were told the Army was adding three additional months to their time in country.

In November 2007 the troopers of 1-89 arrived back in New York from their tour. They are now being told by the IRS, via the IRS Web site, that they haven't earned enough money to qualify for the economic stimulus check.

There's an incentive for re-upping for three, four and five more tours.  But hey, the good news is that the Pentagon has decided to change the way they handle the cremation of fallen soldiers after it came out that the crematorium the Pentagon has contracted with handles both human and pet remains.  See, they're trying to be sensitive to the needs of those they've put in harm's way.

Is there anything this administration has done well?

Rob us blind and put us on the path to a fascist dictatorship?

Perhaps they want to perfect the ovens, so they are experimenting with various mass-cremation methods.

fas·cism (f²sh“¹z”…m) n. 1. Often Fascism.a. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. b. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government. 2. Oppressive, dictatorial control. [Italian fascismo, from fascio, group, from Late Latin fascium, neuter of Latin fascis, bundle.] --fas·cis“tic (f…-sh¹s“t¹k) adj.

Yep, sounds like the right description.

May 6 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Army won't be able to pay soldiers beyond June 15 unless Congress approves $108 billion more for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or authorizes a funds transfer, a Defense Department official said.

How to rob the US Treasury 101

Open the vault. Give taxpayers a few hundred dollar tax rebate. The taxpayers then in turn use the rebate to buy $4.00 gl. gasoline. The profit is returned to the coffers of the oil barons i.e.... Richard B. Cheney.

This is the greatest money laundering scheme ever concocted. Cheney is fucking brilliant.

Chris reminds me of what my psychiatrist told me in 1968 when I was strung out and admitted for drug abuse and borderline paranoid schizophrenia He told me what I see as true for Chris,"Your mother was hostile to you in your formative period."
He was right. She was still hostile to me at the time.
Same thing is true for Chris.I`ve let it go,but he still seems to be stuck there.

Bush has no soul, and Cheney has a faulty heart.
Bush's "military service" for the Air Guard in Texas was a SERVICE DODGE for the sons of wealthy and influential Texans.
Cheney never wore a uniform... he had "other priorities."

I have a brother and two sisters who voted for these SKUMBAGS because they believed that Bush was a good Christian! Truth is that Bush has never been good at anything his whole life.

See that was the mistake the Nazis made. They should've privatized it with no-bid contracts.

That is the conservative way, don't give a shit if you are a walking talking breathing human. If you are a fetus or dead or brain dead, well hell it is time to pull out all the stops prosecution, all sensitive and shit.

All of it is blood money.

you know the human cost of the experiment of the American Empire since assuming the leadership role in 1945?

approximately 1 billion lives. Billion with a B.

All hail the Hypno Toad and Bangkok Bob: Well, the Wehrmacht hated the Nazi Party's guts well before 1944, so the comparison's more valid than not, particularly in light of the almost-Wilhelmine German style of worship of Petraeus the Irresistable, the Inexorable. The big question to me is: when is the Army gonna have enough of this, and when it happens, what will happen. A mighty dangerous thing for any nation to play with men trained to kill people in horrible ways. Might also explain the endless troop deployments, if you want to be cynical about it.

And remember, one A. Hitler was a highly-decorated combat veteran with a charismatic speech style...

Thanks for the support ASS Clown!

The great thing that overrides all Bush's screwups, his virgin queen daughter actually found a jerk to marry her who's dumber than her Dad and Grandad.

Maybe when we have 50,000 plus dead and Fox News is still saying "We're Winning!" with the ticker across the bottom saying. . .green zone battles rage on. . . . major oil pipeline bombed. . . 10th Iraqi President replaces 9th. . . Bob I had the same conversation with a guy from Michigan. He was a devout Mennonite who thought that King George was the only man to vote for. When I started talking about your country's presidents and their extra after hours duties(ahem..nudge nudge..wink wink), he looked at me as if I were from Mars. All he could say was that president , wait for it, Clinton was an evil man.

yeah, the same JCS organization that formulated Northwoods, that accepted the lies of Tonkin, that has made every effort to coverup all the crimes of the last 60 years. The same JCS that promoted Meyers and others after 9-11.

Well, assuming the higher ranks are, the soldiers themselves may not be. An easy recipe for an American Reactionary Revolution (i.e. fascism) is for the JCS to fuck over the soldiers after not admitting defeat.

Do you think even if the Dems win in November that this country can "afford" to admit defeat? After all, Muraka is supposed to be on the unstoppable march...

It's all bullshit, of course, but eventually somebody's gonna push the wrong button and it's 1861 all over again. The veterans in this country from this war are messed up. If Bush plays his hand wrong with them... it won't be 1861 all over again, it'll be 1787 all over again, only with M16s and M1s instead of flintlocks and cannon...

Dateline Baghdad @ 6, exactly. Cheney has always been the real president. As much as I hate to say it, he is masterful at his game. With President Doofus Dimbulb always in the spotlight making an ass of himself, it is easy for people to focus their attention on Bush than to see what is really going on here.

True, MacArthur ran over the Bonus Army....before the NRA gun nuts decided that a gun in every home was good for the country. The Bonus Army was unarmed. Considering that the Bush Administration's taken a crap on the military every chance it could, a veterans demonstration would likely be armed.

Come on, the US military has taken it in the ass for several decades now.

All the casualties and KIA caused by the McCollum Memo and the American industrialists/financial interests arming Germany and supporting Hitler
Same interests giving birth to and supporting the rise of the Soviet Union
Atomic Veterans
Agent Orange
58,000 KIA and 10's of thousands wounded from Nam
untold left behinds from Nam
Operation Whitecoat germ warfare experiments
BZ experiments on troops
Gulf War syndrome denial
Depleted Uranium denial - and the waves of cancers and birth defects are just beginning
the treason on 9-11

and thats just some of what we know about.

And they do NOTHING.

Rebel Patriot: That's true. That's more the higher-ups, though. But I must question your sources on supporting the rise of the USSR. You mean the army that intervened against the Bolsheviks supported their rise to power? You're talking crap. The Western Powers never wanted the Russian Empire to become Communist. Even Germany was gonna smash the Bolshevik government once it won WWI. The idea of the original, hard-core Communists literally made industrialists shit their pants and prompted two Red Scares (or, what the Russians'd call pogroms) and they financed the rise of the first Communist state.

Somebody eats glue for breakfast. I think you underestimate just a little bit the level of anti-Communist feelings in the 1910s USA....

Imperial Germany, dumbass. The Kaiserreich had a vested interest in the Russian Empire quitting. Lenin was just a convenient patsy.

The reactions of the US to the Bolshevik Revolution, including the barring of the new Russian regime from trade are in clear contradiction to this tinfoil bullshit.

Lenin lived in exile in Sweden, and Marx was German. Nobody expected a Communist Revolution in Russia. What possible reason would a nation that was busy squashing all attempts at free labor have to support a known evangelical ideology dedicated to the expansion of the working classes?

The United States had nothing to do with the creation of the USSR, and the isolation of the USSR is contrary to the basic industrialist policy of all trade, all the time. I'm thinking about all the Bush cousins a Jenna's wedding. They're young, bright, and America has been very good to them. Can't we send some military recruiters to Crawford, have them set up a booth at the wedding? Wonder how many will sign up for Unca W's war?

They are now being told by the IRS, via the IRS Web site, that they haven’t earned enough money to qualify for the economic stimulus check.

That's BS. My H+R Block told me the minimum you gotta make is three grand, and there's no way they're not making that kind of dough!

That is what i thought. What is the point of having an economic stimulus package that does not include people who did not make even more than a combat soldier making combat pay?

Shit. I don't even work, and the IRS INVITED me to apply for one.

The "army" is not a homogeneous group. It is a highly structured and class oriented organization, a microcosm of the larger society it protects. Its only the "lowly" enlisted men and women that are being cut out of the peanuts for the populace disguised as economic stimulation. The commissioned officers and life-timers aren't complaining!

What is surprising is that the Colorado Springs Gazette chose to publish that letter to the editor. Its one of the most right wing newspapers in one of the most right-wing counties in the U.S.. There is a large population of  "values-claiming" believer's in the theology of prosperity that live there. Dobson's church even gets public highway signs on the main interstate through that county.

The message in that letter should be spread as far as the blogosphere can take it!

Income earned by our troops while "in-theater" is tax exempt.

You wrote: "See, they’re trying to be sensitive to the needs of those they’ve put in harm’s way." (emphasis added).

I think that it should read : ". . . those we've put in harm's way." The soldiers are the responsibility of all of us, as is this isidious government that we elected. Even if you or I did not vote for this administration and opposed this war, they are still ours. I think that one of the problems on our side is that we tend to distance ourselves from hateful administrations like the current one, but we then feel that we do not own the problems they cause. If there were a sronger sense of ownership, then it mght be possible to get more people in the streets and it might even have been possible to win in 2004

It's very easy to refute the work by pointing to the 1917-1919 Red Scare and how the industrialists isolated the USSR. The original Bolsheviks were scary folks. Also, the acts of Woodrow Wilson in invading the Soviet Union during the Russian Civil War in support of the Counter-Revolutionaries is a challenge for you and Sutton to explain.

Have you read the entire work? In one section he steals Hitler's talking points on a Jewish world conspiracy to finance the USSR. Nice to know Jack Chick-style kookiness isn't just limited to the Republicans.

OK, for the sake of getting into this quagmire, why did the United States invade Red Russia before the rise of the Soviet Union on the opposite side?

And furthermore, what the Hell are you doing linking to R. J. Rushdoony and his fruitcakes as a reliable source? Rushdoony was a wanna-be Torquemada/Khomeini who was a real Talichristian.

It's like linking to Krokodil or the Volkshiger Beobachter and claiming objectivity. Can't be done.

Another day, another reason for America to hang its head in shame.

The Colorado Springs Gazette allows comments to its letters. A couple of them dispute the information quoted by C&L. The first one includes words supposedly from the IRS website that contradict the letter.

"Normally, combat pay is not counted as income and is not taxable. For the purposes of receiving an economic stimulus payment, however, military personnel serving in combat zones have the option of including their nontaxable combat pay on their 2007 or 2008 income tax returns if it helps their eligibility for the 2008 economic stimulus payments.

"To receive the stimulus payment this year, combat zone personnel or their spouses must file a 2007 income tax return by Oct. 15. Otherwise, they can claim the economic stimulus payment on next year’s income tax return."

While I think the Republican support for our troops is detestable, criticism of it still needs to be factual. One outrage at an incorrect story tends to overshadow dozens of legitimate concerns, as the Dan Rather Bush in the National Guard story demonstrated.

This story needs a little more investigation to see if the letter was totally off base or if the IRS rules are actually what the commenter reported.

Any servicemen that still willingly enlists and then re-enlists gets absolutely no sympathy from me! They deserve everything they get!

Add to their number the poor. I don't like what we have become.

Eight more months and 4 days of these people. I hope I live to see the day.

No wonder the administration is thinking about re-instituting a draft! Seriously, if anyone in this country signs up into military service is a total fucking moron!

This is how they treat the people they actually like!

The troops and their children also don't get a rebate if they marry a foreigner.

THIS WOULD BE LAUGHABLE IF IT WEREN'T SOOOOOOOOOO SAD.
