Why I'm rooting for Jason Taylor on Dancing with the Stars

I've never watched an episode of Dancing with the Stars, but after seeing football great Jason Taylor say this about ending the war with Iraq, I'm rooting for him to win.

Taylor: The boys and girls in Iraq are coming home. I wish I could make that happen, unfortunately I can't, but we're hoping for it.

He's looking to make it in Hollywood. Good luck, Jason.

BAM!

More respectable than Fox News.

I thought he signed with the Niners. I hope he did.

BAM!

That was not because I was first. It was because of what Jason said.

Woo Hoo! jason has his priorties in the right.

Way to go Jason Taylor! We need more of this in mainstream media.

I don't know who he is, but I like him.

That's easy to say now. What was he saying back when the war was about to start?

Mr. Taylor, prepare yourself for the hate mail, death threats, and slurs from am hate radio, reich-wingers, Faux, and the rest of the 28%ers.

Hint = Jason Taylor is black.

In fact more of them are going over there!!

The U.S.S. Ronald Reagan (plus six ships in its strike group) were DEPLOYED Today in support of the War on Terrorism.

What he said was great. The audience response was even better. I hope Bush saw it. He must do something in the White House besides not golf.

He could be soon.

Taylor got in Parcells' dog house by skipping a *ahem*voluntary*ahem* Dolphins' mini-camp. There are lots of things you can do (like crack- see: Taylor, Lawrence) and stay on Parcells' good side. But don't ever miss a meeting or a practice.

If they ever do a re-make of The King and I, he should be a shoo-in for the part. Being that I am a football fan and in Florida, I sure do know who he is. Good for him for saying shit that so desperately needs to be said by well know people like him.

Will the soma popping viewers take it in?

sure, he says he'll bring them home if he wins...

Slow down there...they just did a version with Chow Yun Fat as the King and Jody Foster as Anna...Not a musical, mind you, but must we disinter that story so soon?

Now I don't know what to make of this. damn.
He's still not on the roster for the Niners.

He is a very talented Defensive end and he's shown well in this dancing thing.. (My g-friend watches this so I am somewhat up on it).... He could help the Niners for sure (just about anything can help the Niners at this point), but I haven't seen anything on this in the local rags yet.... On Dancing as a competition? I'm rooting for Kristi Y. and whomever her partner in this is.... Hey, she's local, she's a hottie, I'm a boy so you'll just have to shoot me for seeing her that way I guess... Plus she's a champion skater and has a lot of public service stuff in her backgound..
She's just an all around good person and has danced very well in this dancing stars show when I've checked it out............JD

In that case you can be a little less pissed off (just as long as you remain Patricia.) :)

Isn't this an all-volunteer force? These kids knew that war was a possibility when they signed up to become part of the military-industrial complex, right?

Not that I like war,but war is THEIR business.

I'm open minded, JD - what are Kristi's views on the Palestinian situation?

I have a hard time disagreeing with you most of the time but this blog pays close attention to the corporate media and reports on what is going on there politically.

A popular football player cum popular conestant coming out against the war and getting cheered for it on national television is exactly what should be on this blog.

I remember there was one night on Dancing when Jason and his partner wore dolphin colors so that should have kept me from getting caught in the April Fools trap. I hate to get taken but I sure did about that trade. My husband is going to have such a good laugh at my expense when I tell him I got taken on a almost two month old joke about football. Why I couldn't care less who you're voting for on Dancing with the friggin' Stars.........."Because this aint the People magazines' website....it used to be Crooks and Liars."

Jason Taylor proclaims "The boys and girls in Iraq are coming home." I wish I could admire his optimism but perhaps he may not be aware that the agent of hope and change is advocating that even after his phased [as opposed to immediate] withdrawal finally takes place, that Obama is going to leave close to 100,000 troops behind, either in Iraq or, to use Murtha's phrase, "over the horizon", in Kuwait or Qatar or Oman. That does not strike me as the best way of supporting the troops, by leaving approximately 100,000 U.S. troops in a place where they will be, justifiably, reviled and hated.

The best way to support the military is to bring them, ALL of them, out of that abattoir as quickly and as rapidly as possible.

Blue lensman@25;

Ok bro, I'll check that out just as soon as I get my exclusive interview with her set up... Until then, I'll pull for her to win this goofy T.V. show dancing thing... Oh, yea, I'll make Sure to tell Mike Nolan and John York to make some kind of deal to get Jason Taylor out here in niner red and gold.. (& now black too for reasons not too clear to me, must be the curse of the Raiders NFL properties sales figures again)...as well, just as soon as they possibly can work something out.. Maybe as desparate as Miami has been lately, they might bite on a John Brodie and a undisclosed future draft choice for Taylor and player to be named later deal.... Or not... Might have to throw in Ronnie Lott or one of our lessor known backs.. Travis Jervey maybe??? OK Skip Hicks too... I can gaurentee Hicks at least has some playing time left in his tank...and I heard once he does good special teams work...
Hey, at least he was on an active roster in this century....heheh.

Anyway, it's nice that Taylor apparently made a statement on this war in such a hi-profile way.. This again ties into what I was ranting about last week on the Stop-loss thread... Taylor on T.V., that sargent saying no thanks to redeployment now that he's got his dd214... These are the kinds of acts and public statements by known personalities and just plain average folks from all walks of life that make reality those 'bullet meets the bone' kinds of comments and wishes for real change in our national direction. These two and their individual separate actions are the beginning of what it will take to shut this administrations criminal mendacity down finally and for good...

Lastly in closing, I can't really tell ya what Kristi Yammaguchi thinks about the Palistinian issue, but personally? I think they deserve a homeland same as the jewishs people deserve... I also think (and this is going to be pretty unpopular as views goes) they, the Jews and the Palistinians, could probably share the same piece of dirt they all have been killing each other over for fuck knows how long.. In the immediate historical perspective? At least since the end of WWII.... If THEY WANTED TO....they could share (though not sure what the bible has to say about that and I am pretty certain biblical writings and interpretations or misinterpretations continues to drive this insanity to a large degree)... That last in caps is meant as emphasis of what could just as easily be possible as alternative to the killing and not meant to be shouting at you. Mostly, all economic and other manmade issues aside, that mid-east bullshit is about either wanting to get along and acceptance of one another or not... Getting along and accepting is something apparently neither side wants to entertain. I guess it's just easier to hold historic grudges and just kill, maim and blow each other the fuck to pieces than it is to accept, work together and make peace with one another...

BlueL? I don't really have any answers for that hellish situation and clearly all sides have ligitimate as well as bullshit grivances with each other.. I don't have answers, I doubt if Kristi does either, but on that matter, as regards solutions that work? Like you, I am open minded....JD

"A good soldier follows orders". Assuming that statement is not written in a satirical vein, that is exactly what a soldier should not be doing. Believe it or not, a person who enters the military does not leave his or her brain back in the civilian world [see the powerful documentary Sir! No Sir! for confirmation of this statement]. Since the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions violate the U.S. Constitution, the Hague Convention on Land Warfare of 1899, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Nuremberg Principles, which puts forth the argument that those in the military have an obligation NOT to follow the orders of leaders who have committed crimes against peace and crimes against humanity, each and every soldier should refuse those illegal orders that they have been given which tell them to occupy, brutalize and terrorize the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Uniform Code of Military Justice also makes specific reference [sections 809, 891, 892] to soldiers obeying only "the lawful commands of his superior officer."

Those soldiers, despite your claim, do not deserve to be supported. The ones who deserve to be supported and praised are the ones who have taken the courageous stand of saying NO to the United States war machine, which would include such people as Lt. Ehren Watada, the members of the IVAW, and Camilo Mejia, and Kevin Benderman, the latter two going to prison rather than aiding and abetting an occupation against a country that was never a threat to anyone in these United States.

Sorry. Jason's still a Miami Dolphin. Still like what he said, though.

Have to tell you something, I kinda love his partner, Edita Sliwinska, a little MORE!

Jason Taylor is a whiny little bitch. He fits in perfectly with the rest of the terrible players on the Miami Dolphins. The guy is more interested in being on tv and looking pretty than winning football games, so it's no surprise he was on a 1-win team this year.

It's nice that he's against the war, but the guy is still a first-class tool.

Jason Taylor traded to Niners

Oops, that may have been an April Fools post and I took the bait.

And, btw, as a Packers fan in Lions' country, if you substituted Detroit for SF I'd still be wondering whether or not it's true. That organization (Lions) would make that deal.

Your point would only be correct if the Detroit Lions didn't have the incompetent Matt Millen as their General Manager (or is it team president?). Millen's continuing to damage the Lions, and I say this as a Chicago Bears fan.

Go ask Flush Drugbaugh. Oh, wait. Drugbaugh only uses oxycotin.

Isn't this an all-volunteer force? These kids knew that war was a possibility when they signed up to become part of the military-industrial complex, right?

Not that I like war,but war is THEIR business.

A good soldier follows orders!

...thats how we can still love em and support them even though this war in Iraq is unjust, undeclared, immoral and under false pretenses!

we could debate the merits and morals of becoming a soldier in the first place...(if we need em at all even)

or we could debate a soldiers military oath and codes of conduct, that he swears to when he joins up...

The commander in chief is the one we shouldnt support.

Good reply! I certainly agree that a soldier does not leave his brain behind and should always follow his code of conduct in his/her utmost upstanding individual capacity

...and bad soldiers are a reality...

...its a tough situation for soldiers in many ways (besides getting shot at or roadsided)...

I would (not so secretly) say that I hope more soldiers stand up and refuse to fight...

but I do still feel the need to support em...

I want them to come home ..(and be here to help).. in case Bush unleashes his Homeland security/Blackwater dogs upon our populace.

Chuck @ 8:

That's easy to say now. What was he saying back when the war was about to start?

Go on the ESPN.com blog and ask him.

Dancing with the stars? EEK! Pssst...I heard one of the remaining non-talents on American Idiot.....er...Idol was antiwar as well.........woohoo!! Who knew?

He's an excellent dancer. And the dancing should help his game.

Erm-I've never watched a FULL episode of DWTS.

Get a life!

My goodness, there are some grumpy people here today. I don't watch that dancing show either but we can't be sombre and serious all of the time.

By the way, my day has been fabulous !

umm, go nIners.

Well GOOD FOR YOU Cal.

Anytime. With pleasure.

Wait, this 'Dancin' With The Stars' thing is a real show? Really? I thought it was just an internet satire thing or something from an episode of South Park made up to show how absurd teevee had become. So there really is a show where famous people dance and show off and pat themselves on the back for being famous in front of a bunch of cameras, and real people at home actually watch it?

Anybody here remember your reaction the first time you caught 'American Gladiators' on tv? (yes, I used to watch tv, a long time ago)

*disclaimer: this is not meant as a dig at C&L, I know how to use the scroll wheel to go past articles I don't want to read; I am genuinely amused and slightly befuddled by this 'other world' the majority of people are all to happy to live in

Proud to say I've never seen this show or American Idull either. I'm not as unencumbered as some of the TV-free people here (I still own a 13" set with rabbit ears), but it's a small investment (and a good thing to fall asleep to.)

Yeay! for a fabulous day! I do take a break from writing letters to editors & congressmen ,contributing to MoveOn, meeting with local political action groups, signing petitions to save various portions of the tattered constitution, responding to wolf shooting, polar bear drowning, phoning Congress, reading my "must read" blogs, distributing info to others etc etc etc TO JUST BE ENTERTAINED.
Football interests and entertains me. Great bodies dancing entertains me. Hearing a football playing athlete that I like say something I love excites me. And Edyta is hot hot hot too. JA took a risk with the "lower gas prices, bring the troops home" line and I watched the show and voted for him. And I have no shame for having 2 TVs, Tivo and the internet. I love sports & politics.
Now back to my regularly scheduled grumpy-ness.

The show is actually very entertaining. Two of the judgees are British kooks, the babes who dance are hot and wear next to nothing. Other then all the darn commercials, what's not to like?

Sure. Now go tell him in his face tough guy. Two years ago Taylor was named by his peers the NFL's best defensive player. Have you ever received such an award from your fellow busboy's?

Dancing with the stars keeps the elderly from logging onto the web and looking for what's really going on in their crumbling country.
