Obama to GOP: "Lay off my wife" with "low class" attacks
By SilentPatriot Monday May 19, 2008 8:45am
Barack Obama warns the GOP to keep the focus of their attacks on him and nowhere near his family.

"If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful because that I find unacceptable. For them to try to distort or to play snippets of her remarks in ways that are unflattering to her, I think is just low class."
Predictably, wingnuts say "hell no" in unison.

Just one more reason to like the hell out of the guy. He's all class!
A reich-wing pundit just stated that the TN GOPigs are very happy with MSNBC for airing their reich-wing ad smearing Mrs. Obama. Yet again, the librul media myth is debunked.
usually when one says "lay off" to the 7th grade mentality, it essentially like asking for trouble.
Obama is probably too classy to do a hard hitting, truthful ad about Cindy McCain's interesting past (stealing, drug addiction, lying to try to pin her stealing and illegal drug possession on subordinates for example) or John McCain's well documented infidelity and the affair he and Cindy had while he was still married to and living with (not separated from as his newly found spin says) his first wife.
If the rethugs insist on this sort of campaign then a 527 or two should emerge to take on that task. The rethugs really should think long and hard about what a truthful comparison of these two women would look like. Michele is light years ahead of Cindy-Barbie.
Just drink the kool aid wingnuts.
When november comes, Barack Hussein Obama/Osama will be a racist black muslim who hates america and all enemies of your country wants him to win over the republican candidate. The republicans haven't even started yet. Prepare for a new low in modern politics, when race will be used against him. They will make a Willie Horton out of him. A likely scenario, if the republicans stand to lose is, that an attack on Iran before the election will be used to defeat Obama. Just like Bush defeated Kerry with terrorism and Iraq.
Ok.. So if Candidates wives arent off the table... lets all focus on Cindy Mccain and her stealing drugs from a charity to fuel her addiction.. or on Mccain for firing the guy who discovered it and reported it to the DEA.
I havent heard a squeak on that story from the media, but people are constantly questioning Michelles patriotism... At least she isnt a thieving drug addict.... I mean.. this could be the First Lady.. AND SHE WAS STEALING DRUGS FROM A CHARITY!
Seriously..
This campaign season reminds me of a bunch of rats swimming around in the ocean trying to stay alive. They will swim to anything they see in the water that they think they can crawl up on and survive. Trouble is, everything they crawl up on sinks.
First it was that Obama claimed in the second grade that he wanted to be president. That sank. Then it was Obama plagiarized words in a speech. That sank. Then the ocean was littered with Rev Wright and other people Obama had known. That's still sinking. In their desperation they are now clamoring over to crawl up on one sentence Michelle Obama said. Obama is knocking them off that possible lifesaver. But no matter what they will keep swimming and crawling and watching their hopes sink right before their eyes.
She said these things while campaigning for Obama, thus it's fair game.
If this is the case then people shouldn't have criticized Bill Clinton for his statements.
When Mr. Obama gets to go toe-to-toe with McBush during the debates, AMerica will see how futile the reich-wing GOPigs have become. Mr. Obama is going to mop the stage with McBush's wrinkly arse.
bobaloo @ 9:
Bill Clinton is a former president. If you can't see the difference, the world mourns for you.
Obama's wife, Rev. Wright, flag pins, bitter comments, etc. shit that has NOTHING to do with the oil war, the health care crisis, foreclosures fucking everywhere, etc. These people(Repubs, bitter Clinton losers, ignorant bigots) clearly have nothing with substance to get Obama.
I wonder if Obama's strategy is to put candidate's spouses on the table with this tactic, because he knows Cindy McCain has much bigger negatives than does Michelle Obama.
It might have been more fun if he'd adopted the line, "John McCain, you do NOT want to go there..."
I hope the American people are smart enough to see this silly shit for what it is. There are some people who wouldn't vote for Obama if Jesus Christ himself came down and endorsed him in person. Those same people will be the ones who use this stuff to excuse themselves from voting for Obama.
I like Obama's style. He is basically calling the GOP out. These attacks on his wife are similar to those made about Obama's meeting with that Imam or with Rev. Wright. They are indirect shots at him but thus far, there has been very little directed towards him specifically. What is the matter with the GOP? Can't they hit their target? Because, if this is the best that they can come up with as far as smears I doubt that they can and I think Obama knows it.
I dare say if Jesus Christ came down the election would be entirely forgotten. :)
Obama to GOP: “Lay off my wife” with “low class” attacks
Why should they? To hear some people tell it Hillary not only knew what Bill was doing with Monica, she was taping it and selling it online.
Whenever the GOP and its talk-radio representatives brings up Michelle Obama, just respond that at least Michelle isn't a wife-stealing drug addict.
This quote is from the link above "hell no"
"But the real reason for Obama’s extraordinary freakout is that he fears the release of the videotape, reported here, of Michelle Obama in the pulpit of Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s church railing against “whitey.” And we don’t mean Whitey Ford. Four Republican sources have told me that the tape exists. I’ve also been informed that Karl Rove and his allies have a copy of it and are using it to raise funds for independent expenditure groups. The tape, I’m told, will be disclosed as the GOP October Surprise. It’s a ticking time bomb.
And I’ve learned that a right-wing Republican billionaire has put a $1 million bounty on the video. He doesn’t want John McCain to win, like a number of conservatives, and thinks Obama is a pathetically weak candidate. The billionaire wants that video released now."
So it's not enough for them to chew on Michell's sentence, they have to make up a story to cause more agitation.
golden joe @ 3:
Yes because they are mentally still seventh graders, I say go ahead be the puerile fools that they are, at least some in this country might see them for what they are.
Dr. Biitter Hussein (Mission Accomplished) Matt @ 11:
Let me clarify first: I don't like the ad and I'm voting for Obama.
What I like less is the whining.
So what if he's an ex Pres, he's still a spouse, campaigning for his wife and isn't running for political office.
If they can't handle criticism of speeches she's made campaigning for him, she shouldn't have done it.
In any case, folks weren't so kind to Chelsea either while she was campaigning.
Have you noticed the Mrs Obama has gotten a little quiet lately. What would be the reason for this?
She opens her mouth and she's fair game. That's just the way it is. If you think that they were hard on HRC, just wait and see what the wrong wing talking heads do to her. And in the process , drag the whole nation with her. I think this woman is smart. But the question is, Is she smart enough to dodge all the BS coming her way. She's been quiet lately, that says she's learned how this game is played..
ysbaddaden @ 17:
How do you compare this with President "I've never seen a big butt I didn't want"? Bill DID bang Monica in the White House. Now what has Michelle Obama done to equate with that?
Rusty Shackleford @ 18:
How does this equate to criticizing speeches Michelle O. made on the campaign trail?
So taking Bill Clinton's words, editing them, taking them out of context and painting him as a racist is a-ok, but GOD FORBID the "The Chosen One's" wife says something on the campaign trail and is criticized for it.
Obama Rulz #281, It's we do it, it because we have to defend ourselves from "racist" attacks, but if it's done to us,. it's "low class."
I guess we've heard the last of anything to do with Cindy McCain on C&L since it would be "low class" to attack her.
pissed off patricia @ 19:
If such footage existed it would be out on YouTube or some other internet site by now. The idea that the R's have some "secret tape" that constitutes an October Surprise is fatuous.
I don't think either side will benefit from attacking the spouse of the candidate. Not when gas is over four bucks a gallon and milk is following close behind. Either side who wastes time attacking the others spouse is going to look shallow and petty.
Sounds to me like Obama is giving them fair warning. The GOP has been running filthy for years. There's probably plenty of crap Obama can use to bury his enemies without ever bringing up their wives or families. He'll be able to remain above the gossipy crap, and still cause major damage.
One can hope.
pissed off patricia @ 19:
That is the name of the game and it the same game that Rove and the others love to play. I seriously doubt that any such tape exists. In fact, I am tempted to file it right next to the non-existant Iraq WMD.
I heard the Republicans put their party above the country, that they use god as a weapon and only pretend to believe he exists. I heard they put personal profit above all else and some would divorce their wives on their deathbeds if it meant they could have sex again. I also heard they are willing to send our troops into battle against a nation who were notonly once our allies against the enemy we are about to illegally invade but used them to invade them with first. I heard nothing, no crime be it murder or rape or torture is beneath them. If we can't make a straightforward commercial out of that we just ain't that smart.
But I thought the repugs were the "family values group?" At least Obama is still with his wive and not married to a husband stealing trollop like McCain is.
raincntry @ 27:
I do not believe the tape exists, but they are talking about it and making it appear that it does. They are stoking their own fire. If they talk about it long enough they will come to believe it is true. Sort of self applied brainwashing.
Rusty Shackleford @ 18:
In retrospect, that should probably be "husband-stealing drug addict."
If candidate's wives are going to be a campaign issue, maybe Cindy Mccain should release her long awaited tax returns.
The Cons don't care about Cindy's drugs or McCains Jet etc, etc.
All that matters to the Cons is winning. They learned from Clinton versus Bush Senior so be prepared for a full out ruthless assault.
Here's the take on this over at Jack and Jill Politics:
http://www.jackandjillpolitics.com/2008/05/thats-way-to-defend-your-woma...
Pay attention to what Obama was really saying in code speak. LOL
How long will we have to read you sorry ass Hillary supporters invent bullshit issues on Obama with hopes of bring him down to Hillary's DOA campaign? Unlike McWar, who let the Republican party piss all over his wife Cindy and his reputation in South Carolina, Obama will regain even more respect for doing what any man should do by protecting his wife.
People really need to stop saying "And I think the American people will see...".
Example, Obama says the attacks on his wife are 'low class'... and 'that the American people will see this.'
If that's true, then why complain? Isn't the cause for concern that politicians know the American people won't see?!
Politicians shold start saying, "...And I'm here to remind the American people not to be conned into permitting these low class attacks to work, and to hold themselves and their policticians to a higher standard."
raincntry @ 27:
I dunno, if such a tape existed it be worth a lot of money to be putting out for free on the internet.
I've been trying to get a copy of the 1910 Edison Studio Frankenstein for years, but the owner won't release it, nor is it on youtube yet.
Overall though, the tape sounds like a reprise of the secret Marilyn Monroe diary.
why do Democrats presume that the Republicans are just going to turn over the surveillance and torture state apparatus to someone who would use it against them in either prosecutions, or persecutions/vendetta?
Nothing is going away. The system protects itself.
It's good to see him stand up for his wife, something John Kerry didn't have the guts to do in 2004 when the POS gop attacked his wife. As for wingnuts reactions, I care more about a worm under a rock in my backyard than anything those cretins think.
Left&Left @ 38:
Yeah, look at how much respect Bill got for helping his.
It's all politics, no morals apply.
The GOP attacks his wife, Obama uses the attack to retaliate. Give and take.
Maybe there was a time when spouses were protected (on moral grounds only), but no longer.
It's going to get a lot uglier from both sides. I just hope Obama maintains the moral high ground. I think he will. This is one of the places where Hillary failed. John Kerry took the high ground and failed, so you just can't call it.
Joe O. @ 30:
Even if it did exist, why would anyone give a flying fig if she used the term "whitey" ? The reslugs have called Obama everything but that and that's all fine and good as far as they're concerned but if he so much as mispronounces someone's name they're on it like a pack of rabid dogs.
I can only wonder what they're going to 'swift boat' him with in the end if they're already this deep in the muck and the official race hasn't even started yet.
Just four years ago John Kerry was letting the sons-of-bitches do the very same shameful crap to his wife. I don't recall the Democratic ticket picking up on the monkey's bimbo and her little escapades having been responsible for a lover's death?
Thank goodness Obama is NOT going to let the criminal element of politics get away with this bullshit all over. They KNOW they are screwed this time. We have candidates that will slap them silly with their nonsense. If Kerry had had some balls, maybe we wouldn't have been stuck with this pathetic joke for these last four years.
Left&Left @ 23:
Study your history. Wives have been fair game since the election of Andrew Jackson. Should they be, no, but we can't rewrite history.
I still want to see Mrs McCain's tax records.
xoites defends Constitution @ 16:
Would he run opposite of Idol?
Vickif @ 32:
Remember, McCain even thinks Cindy is nothing more than the "c---t" that had money to advance his political career.
And, as usual, the MSM totally ignored it, even when reporters caught him calling her that on the "Straight Talk" Express bus.
Methinks the "Straight Talk Express" has taken so many detours, it should just be called the "Mammoth Car" of Spin.
Tim in Japan @ 49:
With any luck he would declare himself an Athiest and we could all start living.
The wingnuts are all saying, "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Well, fine, I say "turnabout is fair play." Time for the DNC (not Obama) to fight fire with fire and go after Cindy McCain, who has some pretty good skeletons in her closet. I hope the Democrats have the balls this time to beat them at thier own stinkin' game.
pissed off patricia @ 33:
DING! DING! DING!
Now you know what the october surprise the Hillary camp has been hinting at. Its really the May surprise and is nothing more than a RUMOR about a YOUTUBE VIDEO! LMAO!! They have nothing left but to make fake rumors.
What if Obama actually does choose Hillary as VP?
It's going to be interesting seeing the Obama's say . . WTF????
Now that I think of it, Dolly Madison was somewhat controversial as an early feminist.
heh... I misread the headline and I thought it said: "Obama to GOP: 'Lay my wife'"
hurr... :-p
L.A. Confidential @ 53:
Where's The Foie-Gras?
emphasa @ 55:
See label.
Notice the placement of the cross at the top of lampshade in the background while he preaches about 'low class' attacks.
Nice move, Barack. No desperation there.
xoites defends Constitution @ 51:
Wouldn't that be nice?
"Um..the bible is crap! Now smarten up and read a damn science book will you?" and then he'll disappear into a puff of logic.
What i meant to say was "Emphasa is on the wrong see label." :)
ysbaddaden @ 40:
Ok...call me crazy, but aren't all of Wrights taped sermons on the interweb already? Isn't that how the whole shit-storm with Wright get rollin to begin with...I coulda swore I saw some news report stating that all his sermons were taped, and available online...if so, then anyone can get their hands on it...And wouldn't Wrights church have a copy?
I think this is a BS propaganda campaign by the GOP...they're getting desperate.
And what if, there actually is a tape...it's probably gonna be doctored up all to hell, taken out of context, like everything else the GOP does.
Don't believe the hype.
dennis @ 58:
Correct, you seem to have a monopoly. :)
It's difficult to leave Michelle out of the running when you can go to the official Obama website and leave a message to her. He's made her very much a part of the campaign. Let's see what's she made of besides whining.
dennis @ 58:
I'll bet you'd be a ton of fun with a Rorschach test.
xoites defends Constitution @ 62:
HA! Ziiiiing!
It's absolutely fair game just as it's fair game to criticize the Hillary Clinton's, Laura Bush's and Nancy Reagan's. Like it or not they are part of the campaign and an integral of the process. Hillary, Nancy, and Laura are all highly influential in their husband's lives just as Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama.
My problem is that instead of running from her comments Michelle should stand up strong and articulate exactly why she said what she did.
dennis @ 58:
Sadly, it's not so much Obama as much as it is his political advisor's, strategists, and image makers.
They suck in my opinion.

I agree, and Michelle probably will. She's gonna be a kickass first lady.
ysbaddaden @ 54:
Not to mention Mrs FDR.
I hope, finally, that Americans are smart enough to see through these pathetic attack ads. Fuggitt... they're not. Crap.
I can't remember any democrat ever using this tactic. I'm sure it's been done, but I can't think of one.
It's all fair game I suppose. That link to the wingnuts is terrifying.
L.A. Confidential @ 53:
That's just media talk just to fool you Hillary supporters into believing that there's a silver medal. This is not politics as usual, Obama WILL NOT SELLOUT TO HILLARY! It will be seen as an act of betrayal. Wake up.
xoites defends Constitution @ 62:
Actually, I think that's a Fleur de lis, not a cross.
Laura seems to be a walking billboard for Xanax.
There's no class lower than the GOP.
Oil just hit another all time record high today, but hey, is Michelle Obama only proud of her country for the first time?
Obama is running a campaign like we haven't seen in a long time and the repubs don't know what to do about that. They dragged out their old tried and true campaign book of dirty tactics, but it's not working the way it used to. The public is too busy trying to keep up financially to feel like playing the old throw the mud politics of yesteryear.
Over the past seven plus years we have heard so much about how we can be tough and fight for freedom and all that other bully talk, that it's nice to see some sensibility come back out of the shadows via Obama's campaign.
mudshark hussein @ 71:
I was watching a Frontline special last night on them. But I wasn't trying to be inclusive, but to push back for earlier examples.
I see the Crucifixion of Jesus on Obama's forehead. Obama is the chosen the one. Jesus has come!
conservatoire @ 74:
I think you're right.
Stop the drama, Vote Obama!
Left&Left @ 73:
It could happen, not very likely, but it could.
It's my understanding that JFK and LBJ loathed each other, but LBJ would help carry those areas of the country where JFK's success was in question.
Left&Left @ 12:
Hey here's an idea, Why don't we all start calling it what it is. Instead of the "War in Iraq" or the "War on Terror" we should call it either the "Oil War", the "War for Oil", or "Bush's War." Together, unified, and relentlessly folks, C'mon make it stick!
dennis @ 58:
If you want to talk about desperation, just look at the many photos of Bush or McCain that have a light glowing directly behind their heads to give an indication of a halo. If that is indeed a cross on the top of that lampshade then its nothing that hasn't been done already.
Left&Left @ 73:
It will be seen as an act of betrayal by morons like you who don't understand that Obama and Hillary can beat the GOP in Nov.
dennis @ 58:
The guy clearly in first place is desperate and the woman in second hoping and praying for a miracle or some catastrophe isn't. Makes a lot of sense Dennis.
IF, Obama does pick HRC for VP, will all the Obama folks still vote for the ticket?
conservatoire @ 74:
It is. I guess d will claim Obama is pandering to Saints fans now.
pissed off patricia @ 77:
The Repubs haven't even gotten started don't kid yourself. They know exactly what they are going to do.
conservatoire @ 74:
I was going to make the same observation but wasn't entirely certain that's what I'm seeing. It looks similar to the tops of the lamps in my mother's home. So I guess that means she's desperately trying to suggest she's into um... french history?
dennis @ 58:
That's not a cross. The lamp finial is a fleur de lise
Tim in Japan @ 69:
You misunderstand me.
My point is that, whether or not he's a former president, he isn't now and he's acting as a spokesperson for Hillary's campaign. Thus his comments, just like Michelle O's, are absolutely fair game.
Actually, that lamp piece looks less like a cross and more like a fluer de lys.
Is Obama a FRANCOPHILE!!!!
mudshark hussein @ 87:
Good question and, as an Obama supporter my vote it yes.
L.A. Confidential @ 89:
Too bad they are so much smarter than the rest of us. Why are we bothering to run candidates at all? Why not just lay prostrate before them and ask them for permision to breathe?
Rusty Shackleford @ 88:
It's a subliminal message that Obama is a New Orleans Saints fan.
If such a videotape exists, and is released, it would certainly spell the end of the Obama campaign. If Obama knows about this video and continues to campaign, knowing the hurt that would cause to the Democratic party in November, well...I would have no one to blame but him if he loses in November. I am Obama supporter through and through, but I sincerely hope, for the sake of Democrats across this country, and those running downticket for the critical house and senate seats, that this video doesn't exist.
L.A. Confidential @ 89:
We all know her comment was taken out of context, just to serve to GOP.
I believe her comment was" For the first time I'm Really proud of my country.
Joe O. @ 94:
I will but I won't be as happy as I would be if it were someone else.
L.A. Confidential @ 85:
Sure, because you say so. Now it's Hillary and Obama. Hillary lost....period. When this long, negative, campaign is finally over Hillary can just sit by the phone and HOPE Obama calls her ass.
Some rw nutjobs are claiming that there is a secret video of Michelle Obama using the term "whitey" at Rev. Wright's church, and that Karl Rove & Co. are going to release it as an "October Surprise."
Well you can all say that you heard it hear first, folks.
I have a video of John McCain at gay nightclub in the early 80's snorting coke and telling everybody how much he enjoyed "golden showers" when he was a POW.
If the other side can dream up bullshit, so can we.
Joe O. @ 94:
Same here.
Ain't no way in HELL I'd vote for McBain just because Hill's the veep candidate, or even THE candidate...this election is far too important for such petty BS!
xoites defends Constitution @ 95:
Their not smarter. Their just willing to go to ridiculous and criminal and immoral lengths to get what they want.
So you have to worker smarter then them, and stay 5 steps ahead of them at all times.
Why is it i was never offended by the term "Whitey?"
Is it because being called a member of the most powerful group of people on the planet isn't exactly an insult?
Dr. Biitter Hussein (Mission Accomplished) Matt @ 11:
Sorry, I don't see it either. Why not share of your obviously overwhelming intellect and explain the difference?

mudshark hussein @ 22:
I have talked informally with Republican women who like Obama, but don't like Michelle. It's for the usual stupid, superficial, knee-jerk, self-loathing reasons that Republican women hate Hillary Clinton or feminists. However, nobody ever said that people voted for logical reasons.
I think she's fantastic and it pisses me off that they are attacking her like this, but it shouldn't surprise anybody and I think this shows part of their counter-strategy. As usual, I think it's spot on.
Don't give 'em an inch Barack.
pissed off patricia @ 96:
Hey...better than a Cowboy fan by far!
Remember the video of he guy who said he gave Senator Obama a bj and did drugs with him in a limo? Another piece of trash. It wouldn't surprise me at all for a grainy tape to pop up with a black woman in a distance saying something derogatory about "whitey". The sound will probably be muffled and kind of hard to understand. Anyone can create anything these days and it's up to the viewer to make of it whatever they want.

I am not attacking LA Confidential. Long before this election LA and i have disagreed about many things. Why let an election change that?
How can no one notice that Michelle is saying "really proud" and the word "really" is dropped in the audio. That ad looks like it was made by a preschooler.
So how do voters in Florida and Michigan feel about their votes not counting.
Is that ever going to be resolved?
Gee and obama and his poopaganda machine flames, slurs and maligns Bill Clinton every day. I guess he thinks there are two campaign styles...his and his slurring and the MSM treating him like a king....that's the way it has been. The ran down Hillary..Now that he sneaks in to get the DNC nod the press should still treat him like a king. This piece of light weight fluff has got a big suprise coming.
And since Michelle is sticking herself into the campaign and lambasting everything and everybody in sight she deserves every thing she gets. I hope she gets the biggest baddest swiftboating machine out there, anybody that got all the zillions of benefits out of this country and then has the unmitigated gall to say she is not proud of it..why in the hell does't she go some place else then.
pissed off patricia @ 118:

L.A. Confidential @ 125:
There going to have to for the sake of consistency if they're going to make required Voter ID's and other vote-caging techniques an issue.
Not having read every posting on this I must say that my opinion is thus: If she wishes to be involved in his campaigning then she IS open to any and all critisizm. Why is Bill Clinton hung for what he say's campaigning for Hillary if why would obama's wife not treated the same? Is it because she' a black? Is it because her statements are her true beliefs? I'm really sick of listening to the "left" channel on Sirius and hearing blacks call in and scream about whites and then have the nerve to say they're not racists. One way or the other they can't have things both ways!!
sean @ 110:
Did they attack Mary's statements on the campaign trail?
No, they used her sexual preference as a gotcha.
126 Marge
There's no indication Obama is behind any of the slurring, only his supporters.
Additional it isn't wise to wish swiftboating on anyone.
126 Marge
Oh yes, your America love it or leave it attitude is more appropriate for conservatives.
Marge @ 126:
Marge dear,
Please give us examples of how Michelle Obama is "lambasting everything and everybody in sight."
Also some examples of how Brarack Obamas "poopaganda machine" (what ever the fuck that means) "slurs and maligns Bill Clinton every day" would also be nice.
L.A. Confidential @ 125:
I voted in the primary knowing my vote for Obama would never count, I was just excited to cast my vote for him. My vote in November will count and that's all I care about. Of all our friends and acquaintances, I have not heard one word from anyone who will be pissed if our primary votes don't count. I think the media is hyping this thing along with Hillary but most of us down here in florida are prepared to go with the flow.

If there IS a Jebus, and if there is a rapture....I got a feeling that alot of the "left behind" are gonna be the ones who were the hypocritical bible thumpers who condemned those who didn't believe as they to hell on earth...it may be the ones who never bought in to any organized religion to begin with that will be taken.
I would point at them and laugh my sinning ass off!
bobaloo @ 9:
That wingnut web ad showing Mrs. Obama is pathetic. You can see she clearly said "I'm really proud..." Yet they, like Fixed Noise deleted the audio of "really".
Unfortunately, this is just the tippy tip of the oncoming iceburg aimed at BHO.
The real reason the GOP needs to not attack Michelle Obama is because she's not Hillary Clinton, and Barack isn't Bill. Barack and Michelle are much, much, much more likeable, and Michelle is a fervently committed mother of two who hasn't said a bad word about housewives in the mid-west. If you attack her, you severely overestimate the extent to which you can mold her public image, and you'll get wrecked.
bobaloo @ 130:
Yep. That's exactly what happened when Dick and Lynn used their daughter's sexuality to try to scare up votes from homosexuals - long before Kerry made his remarks about her.
pissed off patricia @ 134:
I voted for Edwards in the primary, so the (so far) unseated delegates don't bother me.
Marge @ 126:
Spoken like a true repugnantcant.
OK, McCain and GOP surrogates...you wanna play this game, let's play this game.
We can go this route if we have to. We can talk about your wife hiding her tax returns and divesting funds from her ties with Myammar. We can talk about your wife sleeping in a different bed than you and possibly having an affair in San Diego (I think I heard about that here on Crooks and Liars). We can talk about your wife's drug abuse and cover-up attempts, and how you got people fired while covering it up (I think that's here on C&L too).
You wanna go nuclear? Let's go nuclear!

I didn't mean to single you out x. know what I mean?
I want the Democratic party to show as much class as their presumptive nominee is showing now.
L.A. Confidential @ 125:
Of course not. Here in Tampa, the DNC rented the St. Pete Times forum for an Obama rally on Wednesday, the DNC gave away tickets to Obama donors only - said by a DNC spokesperson on an AM talk radio show.
Dean and his "anti-Clinton" cabal chose their nominee, and screwed DEMOCRACY in the process. Our votes will not be heard, our delegates will not be seated, our choice is being held hostage because they do not want Clinton to be the head of the DNC.
I'm disgusted with the DNC & being the presumptious nominee, I will write her name if it's available or vote for a third/fourth party candidate.
So if the campaign becomes about the wives, the junkie heiress who steals narcotics from charities while be verbally abused by her mentally ill husband is fair game?? OK fine by me.
pissed off patricia @ 143:
Me too. I think Sen Obama's position of running a higher class campaign is not only refreshing, but also very smart. People are sick and tired of the campaigns of negativity. People deserve better. But I also want to win this election. This will be a tough general election. I hope this election will end up being something we all can be proud of.
moondancer @ 145:
I'll second that.
mudshark hussein @ 142:
Yes. :)
SM @ 25:
Bill Clinton's words were not edited. He clearly marginalized Obama as the 'black' candidate and trivialized his win in SC by comparing him and his victory to that of Jesse Jackson's.
Speaking of editing though, that 'commercial' as well as the sound bites played on the msm Michele's comments are edited.
She said: "For the first time in my adult life, I'm REALLY proud of my country..."
They did a lousy edit job when they tried to remove the word "really" because the beginning of the world can still be heard.
It's blatant.
And the media is MIA.
