Mike's Blog Round Up
By Nicole Belle Wednesday May 21, 2008 11:00amGuest roundup by Brad Jacobson of MediaBloodhound
War and Piece: Why is Israel “appeasing” Syria? And the real reason Bush is pissed at NBC.
Hullabaloo: dday digs beneath the surface of Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ comment that we’re “stuck” with Gitmo.
David Corn: Addressing upset Hillary supporters, Corn notes they can vote for Obama in November or “vote for a guy who will appoint Supreme Court justices likely to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
After Downing Street: David Lindorff on Bush’s war crimes against children. In addition, of course, to these other war crimes against them.
Booman Tribune: Interesting breakdown of November’s electoral college strategy.
Scholars and Rogues: Hilarious new footage of Bill O’Reilly’s Inside Edition blow-up. And here’s an excellent song to jumpstart your next workout. (Warning: turn down volume if at work.)
Well, that’s all for me, C&L’ers. It’s been fun filling in for Mike. And I’d like to thank him, John and Nicole for the keys. (Final programming note: Hope you can stop by MediaBloodhound this Friday for a fresh satirical dispatch from The Wounded-Courier; it’s about this guy.) Take care, everyone!

Richard Engel's Interview with Bush PISSED BUSH OFF
this is becoming my favorite c&l segment!!!
try for the kill links!!
Thanks Brad. You did good, dude!
Sorry to repost but again my email is down so i can not send you the story but please can we talk about Clintons comments yesterday?Hillary Clinton compared the plight of Zimbabweans in their recent fraudulent election to the uncounted votes of Michigan and Florida voters saying it is wrong when “people go through the motions of an election only to have them discarded and disregarded.”
“We’re seeing that right now in Zimbabwe,” Clinton explained. “Tragically, an election was held, the president lost, they refused to abide by the will of the people,” Clinton said
It is disgraceful comment undermining the amount of human suffering of a country under a dictator like Robert Mugabe. Here in America we have rights which we are able to fight for, Zimbabwean have no rights under the government.
This is a man who has been in power for 20 years
He can torture and kill to get what he wants, in the 1980s there was Matabeleland genocide.
And he still was knighted by the Queen of England in 1994!
I can not believe she is getting away this!

Attack Iran
Trash the Constitution
By Ray McGovern
Dear Admiral Fallon,
20/05/08 "ICH" -- - I have not been able to find out how to reach you directly, so I drafted this letter in the hope it will be brought to your attention.
First, thank you for honoring the oath we commissioned officers take to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic. At the same time, you have let it be known that you do not intend to speak, on or off the record, about Iran.
Actually it's not Hillary voters who are the problem. It's people who think,
“If Obama gets the White House what will they want next?” Or, “if Obama wins, blacks will think they’re running things.”
The story at Hullabaloo will make you feel sick to your stomach. How the hell did China get into this?
Makes you not so fu*king proud to be an American. As if we needed another reason.
From Froomkin:
And Bush seemed positively furious by the end of the interview, when Engel had this to say: "The war on terrorism has been the centerpiece of your presidency. Many people say that it has not made the world safer, that it has created more radicals. That there are more people in this part of the world who want to attack the United States."
So is it a stretch to suspect that Bush told his counselor to get a little revenge? ...
Proposing a new name for Bunniepant's: La Presidenti de Vendeti (Wish my Italian(?) was as good as Engel's Arabic...)
For those of us who don't have TV's, is there any chance that clips of the NBC Bush interview could be posted on C&L?
I wonder why these 'feminists' are appearing so bigoted these days. Didn't the feminist movement coincide with the civil rights movement in promoting open mindedness? Why all the hate for Obama and what makes McCain (who called his wife a 'c**t') seem like such a better feminist choice??? I'm confused, but perhaps I am just naive.

ALL the Espionage that is being allowed...
Just wait until those stories come out.

Since Bush gutted the Espionage Oversight board in March..

I applaud your efforts at cherry picking, but that article is only vaguely germane.
Let's call a spade a spade (see what I did there?). There's clearly a segment of the Clinton dead-enders who are "concerned" about a black man becoming president.
Paul @ 11:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/blog/2008/05/20/BL200805200...
Just heard on Fox why McCain and the pentagon are against the bill that would give the troops more money for advanced education. Seems the military thinks if this passes people will join the military, serve three years and then leave.
They want them to be dependent on the military for a career and income instead of getting out and advancing their education. In other words they appear to want to trap anyone who joins the military and keep them there.
Travis @ 19:
Sure Clinton is connecting with the working classes who as you put it are "concerned" about a black man becoming president. A vast majority of her supporters though are people who aren't racist they have black friends, they are bi racial couples what have you. 60's Generational's who stood side by side with blacks for civil rights. Now though they are pretty much thinking WALLETS. How am I going to put my kid through college, how are we going to keep up with mad max inflation, are we going to have a pension, how are we going to keep it together?
Thats the real issue.
L.A. Confidential @ 22:
So how do her planned giveaways to insurance companies and mortgage lenders benefit "working classes"? Not to mention her track record on bills regarding lending (i.e. the bankruptcy bill). Oh and also I'd imagine killing everyone in Iran would be a costly endeavour.
DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. is cutting North American production of pickups and SUVs as car buyers eyeing record gas prices turn toward more fuel-efficient models.
Bout freaking time they ditch these guzzlers.
Travis @ 23:
There's no such thing as a free lunch. You can't just put your complete faith in politicians, Obama, Clinton, etc you have to help yourself and be resourceful, smart, aware, set goals, and achieve them.
We're in a mess. I don't deny that.
L.A. Confidential @ 24:
And yet a guy in a black Hummer cut me off today in traffic with a bumper sticker that had a picture of a peace symbol that said "footprint of the American Chicken." After all, the best place to spend your Bush tax refund check is to buy a new SUV.
L.A. Confidential @ 25:

Travis @ 27:
LOL no I'm not voting for Coolidge. We'll get by dude. Somehow.
Hullabaloo's diary about Gates and Gitmo drives home for this commenter that if the next president does not immediately (a) close Gitmo, and (b) prosecute Bush and others for crimes involving torture, this country -- all of us -- will have signed on to the use of torture as a legitimate tool by the U.S. government.
Pretty soon, no more Bush. Who or what will the OCD revolve around next?
L.A. Confidential @ 22:
"Generational's who stood side by side with blacks for civil rights" Sure, like from West Virgina and Kentucky. Sometimes the simple answer is the answer. If this were honestly about their "WALLETS" those people would be running like Carl Lewis from the Republicans and their failed economic policies. Stop rationalizing racism. No matter what Obama says or does, many of these frightened, ignorant bigots will never support him.
Left&Left @ 32:
Someone has to be rational. It certainly isn't you. Is Obama freaking about because of this?
No
L.A. Confidential @ 34:
I'm not "freaking out" at all. I'm just being honest. And please explain what I said that is irrational.
Left&Left @ 35:
this might explain HILLARY'S OUTREACH PROGRAM a bit better
Based on the estimated civilian death toll in Iraq, 4% of the pre-OCCUPATION population has been killed. Extrapolating that to the US population would mean 12,000,000 dead murkins.

Bush is like, "Don't you get it? There hasn't been a terrorist attack in the United States since September 11th, 2001"
This is his centerpiece in the war on terror. Those Kevlar toilet seats are working.
Nevermind that the rest of the world is becoming more openly violent.
But don't forget. We ARE suffering from subtler forms of terrorism every day in the good ole' US of A. Our rights are stripped by partisan judges. Our soldiers (ie family) are traumatized by perpetual war. Our financial institutions and infrasctructure services are getting the life sucked out of them by privatization. Our government is relegated to collecting taxes and passing more laws to give those taxes to the rich. More and more services that keep the infrastructure maintained are contracted out to the corporatocracy, who then operate these services with their deplorable mentality. And to top it all off, our very own elected government is poised to use violence against us at any moment to protect the interests of the power elite.

Hillary will go all the way to the convention with this.
The pundits are allll wrong. This isn't about saving face, the vice presidency or seating disenfranchised delegates.
If Obama loses the WH to McCain, Hillary will be blamed. (You see the right wing assorted fruits and nuts already using her words against him). If he wins, Hillary will never attain the WH. She'll be too old, just as McCain's age will be pointed to as a reason for his losing to Obama.
She has nothing to lose. She doesn't care about the Democratic Party, and based on the comments from her mouthpieces appearing on MSNBC last nite she will make any excuse and use any underhanded reference (such as her Zimbabwe comment, her comments about "white voters",etc) to continue kicking and screaming until she gets her way. No. These are not misogynistic remarks. I've made similar types of remarks about male politicians, such as our childish Chimp-In-Chief.
Liberal AND Proud @ 43:
Totally agree. This is a selfish person. And Florida and Michigan, Hillary doesn't give a FUCK about you. She is manipulating your dilemma (that she initially agreed upon) for her own political scheme. Hlliary is a liar.
Liberal AND Proud @ 43:
she has everything to lose. she will be untouchable because no one can calm her down and get her off the ledge. Her run for 2012 will be preempted by her attempt to suicide the Democratic party. But that is par for the DLC. Gore, Kerry and their advisors always found a way to sabotage the Democratic party in the General election.
DLC Billary and DLC LIEberman along with DCCC Emmanuel and DSCC Schumer ahve been working against progressives within the Democratic party since the beginning. They belittled Howard Dean's 50State initiative and now they are being trounced. Bush dogs are being challenged. Repugs are quitting or being blown away. I'm loving it. But I still wish someone could talk her off the ledge.
Oil, Oil, Boil And Bubble

Commentary: No racism in the presidential election?
Story Highlights
-Navarrette says Clinton's argument for why she can win is that whites will vote for her
-Earlier Clinton said either she or her opponent could win in November
-This is first time that whites can vote for African-American who could win, he says
-America may soon have African-American president, Navarrette says
Bushie has too many wars going on. Namely, the war against terrorism (which has been an utter failure), the war in Iraq (another failure), the war against Truth (which has, actually, succeeded somewhat), and the war against the press.
By the way, when IS he going to call Israel an appeaser for meeting with Syria and Gen. Mullen the same for wanting to talk with Iran?
Froomkin should be a part of everyone's daily read. And the Gitmo news never ceases to be appalling. Nice final roundup, MBH!

Not sure what you mean when you refer to OCD..
But we hope when bush and cheney is gone, we also hope
the crime mob that has been operating right along is gone too.
...along with this insanity of blackwater ... and the escalated use of tasers
We also look forward to a functioning Justice Department.
so officials and journalists that have been threatened or silenced can be free to speak.
Those stories are ready to come out after the bush cheney mob is gone.
I read an interesting suggestion today.

Indeed, if Obama loses to McCain, the non voting Hillary supporters will have no one to blame but themselves. Yet many of her supporters are not much different than moderate conservatives anyway, so they don't have that much to lose. I think these are the folks who are threatening to stay out of the GE. Whether they are a significant enough block I cannot say for sure. McCain and the cons must rely on them, the disenfranchizing efforts, and smear tactics to win. They cannot win on their policies or the character of their candidate.
ysbaddaden @ 54:
You got one right. :) And it was a fair question I asked.
Of course a firm diagnosis of OCD could only come out of a psychological evaluation by a medical doctor, but the signs are there if what some people post on the 'net (and the amount of time they spend doing it) is any indication. OCD can also be accompanied by extreme anti-social behaviors, and being able to tap into (and control) an alternate reality on the 'net can only exacerbate that problem.
peaceful easy feeling @ 32:
the next focus when Bush is gone might be...
the remaining wacko neocons, Karl Rove protege's, corporate profiteers, and brainwashed cults,
