Bush can't pack 'em in the way he used to

In 2004, Bush won Arizona by double digits. This year, with Arizonan John McCain leading the Republican ticket, it stands to reason there’d be quite a bit of excitement among the state’s GOP elite.

And yet, the enthusiasm is surprisingly underwhelming. (via Eric Kleefeld)

A Tuesday fundraiser headlined by President Bush for U.S. Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign is being moved out of the Phoenix Convention Center.

Sources familiar with the situation said the Bush-McCain event was not selling enough tickets to fill the Convention Center space, and that there were concerns about more anti-war protesters showing up outside the venue than attending the fundraiser inside.

Another source said there were concerns about the media covering the event.

Bush’s Arizona fundraising effort for McCain is being moved to private residences in the Phoenix area.

Tickets for the star-studded show ranged from $1,000 to $25,000 for VIP treatment, all of which would have gone to help McCain’s campaign and other Republican Party organs.

My favorite little tidbit from the Phoenix Business Journal report came at the end: “The McCain campaign referred questions on the fundraiser change to the White House press office.”

In other words, “Don’t blame us; we’re not the one with a 27% approval rating.”

The WORLD is Sick of George W Bush!!!

I have friends in Tucson and Bisbee AZ who said they were traveling across the state to Protest Bush even coming to their State.

Maybe America is Awakening? I sure hope so.
Dump the GOP! Get out and make noise, show your disapproval.

ouch.

Haw-Haaw!

I was in Tucson AZ last week for a graduation. I didn't see a single McCain bumper sticker or sign the entire time I was there.

Another source said there were concerns about the media covering the event.

They must be expecting 15 or 20 donors to show up.

Dog Bites Owner ... heh

The straight-talker can't even be straight about why the changes in his fundraising plans in his own state. He has so much in his mouth he can only talk out of the sides of his mouth. That doesn't even take into consideration the tangled webs he has been weaving since first practicing to deceive.

another one was cancelled

A CALL TO ARMS !! : Have you seen the section of C&L about FOX Channel joking about assasinating Obama. The lady commentator Liz Trotta, was pretty clear".....knock off Osama, Obama... both if we could." Get into action people. Give this story momentum. The republicans can't just say, "Oh, she was just trying to be funny." The Armegeddon Party must be stopped !! Why is the thought of killing Obama humorous???? Because he wants more benefits for the Iraq War vets? or because he hasn't gone to Iraq since 2006? How can the Repugs talk their way out of creating an atmosphere of war and murder is fun. Let's go people ! Post messages on blogs ! Write emails to media and FOX Channel sponsors. Make T-shirts about this ! Billboards ! Hang sign from bridges. Stop the Armegeddon Party before the 2nd American Civil War !!

Sorry I'll miss it. Muhahahahahahahahaha!

Now if they were going to be burning GW, tickets would be flying out the door.

So it would have been SRO if Bush hadn't been on the ticket? Think Obama could fill up the Phoenix Convention Center at $1,000 a pop? I do.

What if they scheduled a war and nobody showed up?

There's more life on Mars than in McCain's icky campaign.

McCain can't even pack a house in his home state. Pathetic. I imagine he's not having this problem either...

Thats something the NRCC didnt have to worry about, they just had to worry about where all their missing (donors) money went to,
five years of almost no legit auditing and false FEC reports.
Somebody somewhere is living it up on the money people donated to the NRCC.

You know a political party is rotten to its core, when the NRCC, the heart of its money machine is beings stolen from, by its own people.

Yet it wasn't so long ago that they could pack arenas with freshly scrubbed
patriotic and Christian Republicans who signed an affidavid saying they'd vote
Republican on election day.

Now they can't fill a convention hall or arena for fear of protesters and
bad image photos.

O tempora! O mores!

Probably going to the Bush Presidential Library ... To house that one book he read.

What? You mean people don't want to see Bush? Thought he was the one they most wanted to have a barbecue with?

Chimpinomics has destroyed our economy. Why raise taxes when you can have higher food and gas prices. Just another sneaky and backstabbing way to have Americans pay more.

Next time don't vote for the fake christian republican liar.

McCain: Four more years, four more years.

I find any donation at a political event _ especially for helping get a president elected _ to get VIP treatment offensive. Candidates should realize they should treat all their constituents equally and importantly but giving better access to someone who pays $25,000 vs. $1,000 is anything but democratic.

They aren't more people donating to the NRCC, they are a few rich Republicans donating to McCain’s Victory Committee created specifically to get around donation limits. That's the only way the NRCC has been able to beat the DNC early in fundraising:

New McCain Fund Gets Around Donation Limits
...The new structure allows up to $70,000 in individual contributions by channeling the money into different McCain-centric funds. The first $2,300 of that would go to McCain’s primary campaign. The Republican National Committee would receive $28,500 of the donation. The remaining funds would be divided equally, up to $10,000 a piece, among four states the campaign has designated as battlegrounds for November: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado and New Mexico. ...

A recent rumor has surfaced here in AZ that the private residence in question is that of one Charles Keating! What a Maverick! Unfortunately this has not, to my knowledge, been confirmed....

Bush can't pack em in for Maverick McStraightalk? Time to play the tried and true GOP division card, start bashing gays and brown people.

Oh this is funny. Arizona is starting to sound like Minnesota. I can't wait to see what the Republican Convention looks like in MN. Maybe they'll hold it in some backyards. Bush likes barbecues. Maybe Senator Bachmann can host.

But it is amusing and telling that things only seem to be changing now that gas is $4.00 a gallon and food prices are continuing to rise.
All those newly foreclosed upon folks and all the 'borderline' people just getting by are no longer able to continue playing "everything is fine" anymore. 'merkan idol may still be on but it's not going to keep all those folks without cable or a TV in line any more.

Plus Spam goes down easily with lots of beer. Somehow, I doubt McBush would do the same, even with Cindy's distributorship.

And the 35W photo op? Please do. Every protester in the city will be there as well. It's not that I want it to be a comedy of errors but all I know is there are a lot of people in this state that just don't give a rip if Bush looks good. In fact we don't like Bush at all. It took seven years, at the expense of the country, for the people who voted for this joker to realize what kind of a failure he really is. Thing is all they had to do is read up on his grandfather. They could have read up on all of his failed business ventures. He is a spoiled brat and doesn't care about anybody else. It's how he was raised. Can you believe our tax dollars will go toward his retirement benefits? He's laughing at us.

As a devout agnostic, I hope there's a life after, but not too sure. Let me tell you what my idea of hell would be.

I would be seated at a table in a banquet hall and not allowed to leave. The first speaker would be Dick Cheney, then Bill O'Reilly, then Glen Beck and to finish up, George Bush. I would be required to sit there for all eternity and listen to these creeps explain to me their version of what America stands for. It would be an unending banquet. When W finished, Cheney would begin again.

The only upside to this entire picture is that they would be in hell, where they belong, doing time as well.

I think I'm like a lot of people in this country who would rather do just about anything other than listen to Bush and Company any longer. No wonder they can't get people to come to their fundraisers.

Let me tell you what my idea of hell would be.

Correction. George Bush would provide the unintended, side-splitting-hilarity part of the speeches, so funny you would hurt from laughing. What exquisite torment! And by the by I think they ought to move the Shrub-McShrub fund raiser to a telephone booth, which they might just fill.

So few telephone booths left....how about an outhouse? Seems to be where they get their best ideas anyway.

Are the tickets on eBay?

It just what Bush deserves, people ignoring him.

To those who live in Arizona, we are still having our rally in downtown Phoenix at 4:00 at the Cesar Chavez Plaza, with a march to the now empty Convention Center. Info here:

http://azpeace.org/

Mr. Bush will be speaking at 2:00 at the Silverado Cable Company, one of the defense contractors, in Mesa. The protest will be at the corner of Dobson and Main.

Welcome to Arizona, Mr. Bush !!

Seen lots of Obama stickers and even yard signs here in my red state--but McCain? It's rare to even see one. Even "W" dopes aren't flocking to McCain.

A McCain sticker says, "Hit me again--I didn't get it the last two times."

Andrea Mitchell mentioned this on the Today Show this morning. It's the only thing I've seen or read about it on the MSM. When I read about this Phoenix disaster last week on Crooks & Liars I started searching MSM outlets to see if it was mentioned there &, no surprise, NADA. I e-mailed CNN asking why it wasn't there. Not even on the supposedly "liberal" MSNBC. As best I can tell Andrea Mitchell's mention this morning is the only MSM outlet that dared to. If there were MSM mentions I missed them. Shame on that "liberl" MSM for letting us down again.
