I love the round up!!!

Check your spelling though buddy!!

Nice little tidbit about the failing of Catie "MSM" Couric here!

Scott McClellan is the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week. No, Scott McClellan is no hero for fessing up to the fact that George Bush misled the nation into war -- or for revealing, among other things we already knew, that Scooter Libby and Karl Rove coordinated their accounts of the treasonous Valerie Plame outing. If he's repentant, he should give his book fee to a rehabilitation fund for Vets or Iraqis.

Attorneys: Terrorism trials rushed to influence election

(CNN) -- Defense lawyers for five suspected al Qaeda members asked a military appeals court Thursday to delay their clients' arraignments because several of the attorneys have not received security clearances that would allow them to participate in the hearing.

Lawyers for five September 11 suspects at Guantanamo Bay say the cases are being rushed for political reasons.

"I've never seen a military judge hold a hearing when all detailed counsel are not present," said Navy Lt. Cmdr. Brian Mizer, an attorney representing accused al Qaeda figure Ali Abdul Aziz Ali. "It is offensive to me the government would seek to proceed in a death penalty case without all detailed counsel present."

Mizer's client and four other defendants are being held at the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, on charges related to the September 11 attacks.

The defendants, who face the death penalty, are scheduled for arraignment June 5 after a judge declined a previous request to postpone the proceedings.

[right after the democratic nominee will be fairly well decided. great timing, eh?]

The defense attorneys have accused prosecutors of rushing their clients to trial to influence the November presidential elections.

“Controlled Unclassified Information,” refers to information that does not meet the standards for classification but that is considered too sensitive for unrestricted public disclosure.

In other words, it could really mess up our image and be a public relations nightmare and we really could not find any reason to classify it, even in the upside down world where black-is-white that our administration has created.

U.S. Withdraws Fulbright Grants to Gaza
By ETHAN BRONNER

The American State Department has withdrawn all Fulbright grants to Palestinian students in Gaza, because Israel has not granted them permission to leave.

So, not only are Palestinians denied electricity, food, employment, and freedom, but they are even denied the right to study overseas, their last resort at breaking the cycle of desperation and starting a decent life somewhere else?

Where are those Israel defenders who spout stuff like, "Israel is the pinnacle of freedom in the Middle East"? What a crock of bull feathers, I tell ya.

And to think that the land USED to belong to the Palestinians. It's like Apartheid South Africa redux.

McCain got a zero because he didn't even show up to vote?

What the hell? And he wants to run as a pro-environmental Republican?
Is that what that means? Since he doesn't vote for or against anything in regards to the environment, that means he can't act for or against it. That's about as pro-environmental as you get in the Gay Old Party.

In re: Economist's View article linked above

Not long ago I had read:

The US food stamp program was instigated in our Nation under the guise of "National Security".

Our nation's rabid right wing members who want to return our society back to an era (that never existed) probably would like this piece of our history to become extinct . . . or would they prefer Americans return to the era of massive malnutrition and bad health to keep our National Security at high risk?

They put their noses down on people "are on the dole" while at the same time forgetting it is their own 20th Century families who required even more of that "dole" back in the day....those very 1950's when the population got taller thanks to better nutrition thanks to being on the dole.

Apparently, in the history lesson of Food Stamps:

Millions of American men conscripted to serve in the military during World War II were suffering from malnutrition and horrendous medical issues making them unfit to serve.

Hence . . . poverty and malnutrition was recognized as an issue of US National Security.

Today the right wing seems to think those social ills aren't their problem yet they are the ones depending upon threats to National Security to fill their pockets and fill political offices....while at the same time tapping into those victims of our social ills to perpetrate violent corporate takeovers in nations with natural resources - while in uniform.

On the height difference between Europeans and Americans. I live in a beach resort area in Florida and frequently hang out in a beach hotel bar where I can play the NTN trivia game. Europeans have been a pretty common sight there since I've been going and even more so lately with the pathetic dollar.

It is striking how young Europeans, particularly Northerners, tend to tower over the Americans, myself included (I'm 6'-1").

And the president asked, what was the reporter asking. And I said, he asserted you were the one that authorized Scooter Libby leaking this information. And he said, yes, I did. And it really took me back. I could tell he didn't want to sit there and talk about it. And I walked back to the senior staff area on Air Force One, where I usually sit, and it took a while for that to sink in.

"too sensitive for unrestricted public disclosure."

So restricted public disclosure is ok? That means it's ok to give it to some (aka friendly) members of teh press but not others. Selective application of the first amendment is not legal as I undertand it. 60% is not a 'Gentleman's A' the way it was for Bush in college.
