  NW Progressive:

Not only is Dave Reichert an ineffective congressman, but he has a twisted sense of humor, as the Tacoma News Tribune's Niki Sullivan reports:

Right now, U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert is up. He repeated a joke I first heard him tell at the Pierce County Republicans' Lincoln Day breakfast earlier this year. It involves an airplane that's going to crash, one fewer parachute than passengers and, ultimately, Hillary Clinton dying.

It sounds, as David Goldstein observes, like an unoriginal, crass schoolyard joke I used to hear all the time from classmates when I was younger and attending elementary school. [..] The punch line relies on the assumption that the adult in question is stupid.

Now, Reichert or anybody else can argue that Hillary Clinton is ambitious, or stubborn, or shameless, but she is certainly not dumb.

To her credit, she's exceptionally sharp and calculating in addition to being determined... and that has carried her a very long way.

Joking about the death of one of the two Democrats seeking the presidency, if not inappropriate, is certainly not classy, and is further evidence that Dave Reichert himself does not have good judgment.

Perhaps this is because he isn't truly invested in his job.

He doesn't work hard on Capitol Hill, his campaign is ambling or meandering along at a lazy pace, and he's frequently careless with his choice of words. Last cycle his campaign finished with a condescending, sexist TV ad.

Reichert is running against Blue America candidate Darcy Burner.  Please considering helping Darcy's campaign so we can show Reichert out the door.

What goes around comes around, Hillary.

First?!

I'm kind of tired of hearing why I shouldn't vote for the other guy. I'd like to know why I should vote for the guy you want me to vote for.

That's a generic statement thrown out to everyone.

we can show him the door, but it
will just confuse him. is it a doornob or his rectum?

Don't you love living in a polarized nation that feeds upon itself and others?

Thrilling

They'll be far less condescending after 8 years of an Obama presidency, and 8 years of a Democratic majority in both houses of Congress.

Republicans:funny as Hannibal Lecter:vegan

Trying to argue that this guy is kind of an a**hole to try to change the mind of people that continuously vote for a**holes is pointless. Turn it around on them. I'm not sure what the joke stated exactly, but if she jumped in the joke without a parachute, argue she thought about the odds, like an intelligent person, and decided she had a greater chance of survival outside of the plane. If asked why she didn't take a parachute, argue she was showing good leadership qualities in that, the other people on the plane were more important to her than herself. She is, after all, not running to be queen of America, but President.

Rep. Dave Reichert (R-Naturally) Jokes About The Death Of Hillary Clinton

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_P-v1BVQn8

I got this particular unfunny piece of propaganda as a one of those forwards I ask folks not to send over a year ago. (A local builder, the guy who keeps saying "business will go to shit when the Democrats get in" as if it hasn't already, sends a steady stream of stuff like this) That version include Mrs. Clinton, the Pope and a boy scout.

Isn't it a federal crime to invoke harm to ANY public official???

It runs dangerously close to terrorist threats

Judging by the picture, this clown should know dumb.

You didn't read the fine print. It's ok IF a Republican does it.

I'm so tired of government by asshole. You'd think even a bunch of half-witted clowns like the Republicans could find better people to represent them.

His joke wasn't as good as all the ones about Cheney after he dodged that car bomb.

Beware cross-over Republicans leaving their sinking ship behind and trying to take over the Democratic Party.

Deputy Dave is one of the worst and most ineffectual representatives in the Congress. This episode only reinforces that assumption. Darcy will run a great campaign; open, honest and intelligent. No hidden agendas, no mysterious moneymen stashed behind the couch just little ol' us. All 10,000 of us.

What's the big deal about this, again? Seriously? If someone told this exact joke and instead put Dubya's name in there would there be a big outcry from us on the Left over this?

Come on now. It's a stupid joke. He's not wishing her to die, he's not calling for her to be killed. It's a stupid joke, that's it.

Some people need to lighten up and stop letting their hatred of anything that dares oppose their way of thinking get in the way of what was simply a bad joke.

I'm sure I'll get criticized for saying that, but it's how I feel. Way too many sensitive people these days.

This guy is an idiot. The joke is unfunny. And this is a non-issue. I've heard the same joke about Bush. As unfunny as the joke was, if someone had pulled aside the person who made the joke about Bush and told them they shouldn't joke about wishing the death of our president, I'd have told them to lighten up. And that's what you guys need to do if you don't want to end up being partisan hacks. This is a non-issue. The fewer Republicans we have the better, but they need to go based on the real offensive stuff they do, not based on manufactured controversy.

Also, the joke relies on the person being stupid and arrogant. Clinton definitely fits the latter.

Exactly Bill.

And my point is we get so up in arms when the Dems get hit on B.S. stuff. When people like Malkin go off the handle over Rachel Ray's scarf, we mock them at getting upset at stupid little things and taking it out of context, or manufacturing outrage where there should be none. However, we turn around and do the same damn thing with things like THIS.

Gary @ 17:

This fatality-joke was far removed from a call to action, or from describing a possible path to victory.

[Deleted, not funny Site Monitor] Just a joke. LOL

[Deleted, abusive. Site Monitor]

We just watched the death of the Clintons' grip on the Democratic Party.....and not a moment too soon in my opinion.

Now it's going to be the summer of slash and burn for the Clinton campaign and her supporters if you put much stock in Ickes and the "Denver! Denver! Denver!" Clinton supporters.

[Deleted, abusive. Last warning. Site Monitor]

From CNN:

Dems decide to seat FL and Michigan, give each delegate half a vote. (can't copy link from my Yahoo mailbox--sorry...)

And it only took him 25 years to solve the Green River Serial killer case. Even though the guy who did it was nick-named 'Green River Gary' by his pals at the Kenworth truck painting facility.

Thanks for the opportunity for action at the end of your post Nicole. It's nice to actually be able to do something as we learn the news. Peace.

That's a generic statement thrown out to everyone.

After reading online for years, I have to say, I agree with your statement. Always, always, always, everyone is saying to vote AGAINST so and so, with no real reasons why to vote for someone. Just because each is from opposing parties, means nothing.

This GOP mindset we see today used to be quite popular in America. You know, back in the day when Jackie Gleason used to threaten domestic violence on his housebound wife... ahhh yes, the good ol days. What ever happened to town square hangings and wife-beating? Notice that these off-color jokes that are being picked up by the press these days are by & large coming from the right wing where people cling to the times when going without question into WAR was like receiving a medal of honor from Jesus himself. But alas, the times are a changing. The kids have grown up and are now the major voting force today. We have seen the foolishness and inhumanity that is a military solution. We have seen the military used LIKE TOOLS to expand the capitalist markets abroad. We have been on the evil end of the spectrum now for 7 long years and have watched as our leadership has inflicted pain and suffering upon people conveniently out of sight by a vast ocean from the people here. We are sick of it. We are sick of the GOP. Sick of the lies. Sick of the military card that should have NEVER come into play outside of capturing Bin Laden. I persoanlly will NEVER again vote a single GOP member into ANY office. I ask now. Even the judges in our town, I strongly consider what party they are affiliated with before I cast my vote. No more hicks in office. No more off color jokes. Death is not something you joke about, especially to the international press. It is a sign of a rank amateur.

Oh right.... I forgot. Whoever is in office has absolute power and is not longer under Rule of Law...

I had the pleasure and honor to listen to Darcy Burner speak at our County Convention. She is a fine person and a wonderful candidate and will be an even greater Representative.

I am represented by a wonderful, Kucinich-esque Congressman, Jim McDermott, and I implore you to please help Darcy Burner. She is one of the good ones.

An older iteration of this joke had Nixon, the Pope, and a hippie but only two parachutes. As president, Nixon jumped first, but after he left there were still two parachutes, as the hippie explains "He just jumped out with my backpack."

Someone have an answer for me? Wasn't Darcy Burner in some sort of "non profit" scandal not that long ago? If there is any evidence, would she be any better a congresscritter than this tool?

Well Reichert barely beat Darcy Burner in 2006, 51.31% to 48.69% by just a little over 3,000 votes. Those figures don't bode well for Reichert this year, considering that the "Republican brand" isn't worth shit right now.

I'm not saying I hope it happens, but if a meteor shower were to Fall on Bu$h, Cheney, McCain, Hagee, Limbaugh and Reichert this week, it'd be a great day for the entire galaxy.

Don't take it the wrong way miss_kitty. I did not intend to insult. I was merely asking as Cafeenman was, what is so special about her that people should vote for her. All I've heard is a couple controversies with her in them. One was something about running a nonprofit org, paying herself over 100 grand a year, and having nothing to show for it. One was about an ad where she didn't even show what party she represented. I don't know, but grassroots candidates should have no questionable past should they? I mean she swears she was a Microsoft executive, even though people that work at Microsoft say she is full of it. If Dems REALLY want to trounce the Repubs, they really should run candidates with no hidden skeletons as grassroots candidates.

My guess is Hillary was far more offended by Rev. Michael Pfleger's lambasting her last week.

Obviously Barack Obama concurs.

Wow. She ran an ad that didn't say what party she was in. And supposedly (still no evidence to prove your assertion) robbed a charity. The first is a 'meh,' as Lisa Simpson would say. The second: show some evidence. Lexis didn't show anything. If you have more details (name of the charity, etc.), post them so I can run a more specific Lexis search. Reichert is (very unfortunately) my Congressional representative. Most of his constitute ranges from the very wealthy (Gates, Allen) to upper middle-class families. His area is very red, and always votes republican. But, tremendous growth in our region has brought many new liberals into the area. Darcy almost beat him last election. I believe she has a very good chance to do so this election. As we move into the main campaign season, I plan to work in her campaign again.

Reichert is a true Republican hard-liner. He votes with the WH on every issue, except a few benign ones, where many Republicans cross-over, and he is safe. Then he uses that as an example of being a 'maverick'. He was the sheriff of King County for many years. It was obvious he had his eyes aimed higher, and was a true political animal. When the Green River Murderer was finally caught, it came by way of a tip by a citizen. At the time, it had moved to 'cold cases', and there were only 2 deputies assigned to the case. Reichert did not become Sheriff until after the main investigation was complete. However, with the new information, the case was reopened. Throughout the new investigation, you could not watch any of the video, without Reichert being right in front of the camera. When the case was finally turned over to the DA's office, Reichert went before the cameras and took credit for 'finally cracking the case after 20 years of his hard work and persistence. It was nauseating to watch. Under his watch, it seemed like there was always a scandal happening at the Sheriff's office. Many cheered when he resign to run for Congress. But, there was also apprehension about sending this idiot to Congress. All I can say is, he has lived up to all of our expectations.

Sorry about that 'rest of the Country'.

I can't stomach Hillary Clinton at any price, but that clown's joke was way beyond the pale. Pretty much what you can expect from the GOP, though. Think of that joke John McCain made about Chelsea Clinton's parentage.

Fuck off, Republicans. Having Hillary Clinton to run against was your only shot at getting McCain into the White House. If anyone's entitled to make jokes involving her, airplanes, and an insufficient number of parachutes, it's liberals. You don't get to go there. You shouldn't even want to.

All this over a stupid joke? If it's the one I've read a few dozen times via e-mail, it has targeted Bush, Gore, Kerry, both Clintons and Bill Gates. It's not an RFK moment, or a "wipe out both if we could" type of slam. It's an old, tired, and worth a chuckle the first time kind of joke. Nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. Nonsense. Hillary is a profoundly stupid person. Here idea for fixing health care: consult the insurance companies. Her idea of campaigning: be a better Republican. She is a good test taker, that's who get's into places like Yale. She has no vision and is a whiner to boot.

All I've heard is a couple controversies with her in them. One was something about running a nonprofit org, paying herself over 100 grand a year, and having nothing to show for it.

You are confusing Burner with the Republican candidate for Washington Governor, Dino Rossi, who was drawing a salary from a nonprofit called Forward Washington while he was out campaigning.

WA watchdogs: Dismiss complaint against Rossi

State campaign watchdogs on Thursday recommended dismissal of potentially damaging campaign finance complaints lodged by state Democrats against Gov. Chris Gregoire

...

The Democrats had hoped that the state probe would bloody Rossi, who lost to Gregoire by 133 votes in 2004. In June, the state party asked the state Public Disclosure Commission to look into whether Rossi illegally used his nonprofit group, the Forward Washington Foundation, to finance an undeclared shadow campaign and to evade the state's strict reporting and gift-limit requirements.

Rossi has since left the foundation, which had paid him an annual salary of $75,000.

...

A 150-page report released Thursday clears Rossi and says there is no apparent violation. A proposed letter dismissing the Democrats' complaint is part of the packet.

...

Democratic State Chairman Dwight Pelz, reached at the Democratic National Committee meeting in Washington, D.C., referred questions to attorney Kevin Hamilton.

"This decision is seriously wrong-headed," Hamilton said in a statement released by the party. "The PDC staff and Republican Dino Rossi have created a huge loophole in the law that allows unregulated campaign activity. Though dishonest about it, Rossi has obviously been campaigning all year, while keeping his financial backers secret.

...

The PDC report acknowledged that Rossi filed papers for a 2008 governor's race back in December 2004, but said he did so only on the counsel of the PDC as a way to continue receiving money to finance his court challenge of the 2004 election.

Rossi, who led in the first two tallies but narrowly lost to Gregoire on a hand recount, lost the court challenge and closed out the 2008 account.

He later created the foundation, which the Democrats viewed as a fiction to cover a shadow campaign. The PDC staff said there was no evidence that he was a candidate during that time and little evidence that the foundation's primary purpose was to promote another Rossi gubernatorial bid.

Investigators said the foundation seems to have been what Rossi said it was, a nonprofit social welfare organization to improve the state's business climate "and not a political committee engaged in electoral activity."

Rossi, stung by the Democrats' complaint, stepped down from leadership of the foundation in September. He became a candidate again this Oct. 12 and is again filing his paperwork.

Recent polls show him in a tight race against Gregoire. The primary is next August and the main election now little more than 11 months off.

Maybe Reichert's blundering incompetence in pursuing the Green River Killer wasn't a mistake. Maybe he just thinks women dying is funny.

It's the only magazine I subscribe to.

I know it's not related but I just couldn't pass this one. An ad as it appears in Atlanta's Value Clipper savings magazine, 'Hemorrhoids as seen on Fox News'. I think they got it

awwwww, how adorable! Is this the part when the left wing blogs suddenly pretend to care about sexism? I guess it's okay when Keith Olbermann and every other lefty hero does it. It's fine when Barack Obama benefits from it, but now you suddenly want act squeamish about it. <<<>> Sorry guys, you don't fool me, and no, I will not forget your behavior during this primary.

From one woman to another, thanks so, so much for playing the gender card, Holly. I bet you're one of those people who scream "Equal treatment not SPECIAL treatment" on threads where race in involved.

Hey when I first heard this joke 36 years ago with Henry Kissinger in the starring role, I kind of liked it.

At 75 years old come August 9th, I have got to where I hate, yes, I said HATE this country. We are not number one in any catagory except assholes, and them, we have in abundance. And generally they have an "R" after their names.
Where is the outrage against these sorry bastards? Why do we tolerate these assholes? Don't these assholes have children and grandchildren? Don't they care about their own kin? Are they that money mad that they would sacrifice their own children for a GD dollar?
I'm sick of them. I can't possibly live too much longer, the sooner I die, the better, and then I'll be rid of these evil, lying, corrupt asshole, sons-of-bitches!

We tell it about them, they tell it about us, nobody should be offended or shocked over it.
It's not worth the energy.

Yeah...when I heard it, it featured Famous Soccer Player, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, the Pope, a little boy, and Dubya. Six people, five parachutes, and Dubya bails out with the little boy's bookbag. (Him I could believe that of!)

The twist in that version was, the Pope offered the "last" parachute to the little boy, before the boy reassures him there are still two parachutes.

What about when Keith Olbermann joked about having a superdelegate go into a room with Hillary and only one of them (wink wink) comes out? Is that justified on the grounds that it makes Obama supporters feel good?

Mentions of Republican wrongdoing like this ring very hollow when there is utter silence while it's being done by someone on 'our' side.

Where is the massive, massive massive media and Obama supporter outrage about this? Where's the finger-wagging by Obama supporters? Where's the mock outrage?

I read death wishes about Hillary online nearly every day.
No one cares, because she's not the precious Obama.

Strange..the " funny" remarks about the assassination of Obama (twice from Clinton, once from Huckabee, a couple times from FOX reporters) weren't taken all that seriously

Sexism is more real than racism....? Strange way to split hairs
