The American Family Association Wants You To Know You're Going To Hell
By Nicole Belle Saturday May 31, 2008 8:30amIsn't that special?
Normally, people love it when other people link to their websites because it means they get more attention, more traffic, and their message reaches more people,. But the American Family Association has apparently decided that it doesn’t want the kind of attention our Right Wing Watch blog has been sending their way..
The other day we noticed that all of our links back to the AFA’s OneNewsNow website no longer take readers to the link in question, but instead redirect them to the Good Person Test (go ahead and click the OneNewsNow link above or any of these other links to see what we mean.)
So instead of being taken to a specific OneNewsNow article, our readers are directed to a website that challenges them to take a quiz to determine if they are indeed a “good person.” Not surprisingly, the answer is “no” and that they are in fact going to hell.
Answer a question about honesty and you are told you are a liar; answer a question about lust and you are told you are an adulterer; answer a question about anger and you are told you are a murderer...Read on...
Speaking of righteous indignation, RWW also documents some very interesting responses to the recent California Supreme Court overruling the ban on gay marriage: What about the rights of those who do not approve of these activities?

Bush Lady!
wow , i'm a sinner
GO Chruch Lady , GO
Does that mean George W Boosh and Dick 'So' Cheney are going to hell too?
This is why religion is such a farce. People are going to hell for everything. You must do this, do that, believe this, believe that. It's all a crock.
They've changed the links back to the corresponding stories.
Religious right trickery is afoot!
I clicked the links and was taken to one news now.
Bushbaby and company already have the world going to hell in a handbasket anyway.

Did a 7th grader compose the Q&A for the so-called "The Good Person Test?"
See you in hell!
[ Deleted, Please don't post in all caps or in all bold lettering. It's Yelling. Site Monitor.
What about the people who do not approve of those activities?
Maybe they shouldn't engage in them...
Religion. Run by greedy nutbars who want to control the masses. Yuck.
wow, guess i'm not a good person. I even tried clicking all the good answers, but the circular logic of the test got me back on the path to hell. May as well go for beers - anyone want some?
I wrote to PfTAW them saying they could get alternate links through the likes of Google or tinyURL, but I guess from some comments above AFA changed back.
AFA should certainly know about hell.
That photo looks like an actor dressed up as a holy roller on a religious rant.
A Christian believes that you cannot get to heaven by the works that you do. You get to heaven only by the death and resurrection of Jesus who was perfect and his sacrifice in our stead saves us. Only by faith in Christ can you get to heaven because you are not perfect and you have sinned and, therefore, deserve hell and damnation.
The test is perfectly valid to a Christian. It points to the necessity of faith in Christ to be able to be united with him after death (heaven).
In short - don't argue with them over their test. It only validates them.
ferrofluid (Obama 08) @ 15:
That's exactly what it is. It's Dana Carvey as the church lady from SNL. You don't recognize that?
Jusker @ 16:
The test is not valid by the Christian standard. Why not? Because it seeks to pass judgment when judgment can only be passes by the Father.
Well looks like I'm headed for hell, at least I won't be bored.
Much prefer this song and this group for a mind expanding sunday morning

No dont watch SNL, but it screamed satire, very much like something BBC Scotlands 'Naked Video' etc would have done in the 80s 90s.
LOL, G "Dubya" Bush going to Hell? Hell, I think he IS the Antichrist himself!

2. Biblethumpers
3. Wahhabi Capitalists
4. NeoCons
1 and 2 are in full display here. And you know what the sad thing is?? They actually have a shot at winning in November!! You just wait and see the White Trash Army of Boone Pickens and his 527 (among others), unleash a barrage of mud, disinformation, and fear mongering, unprecedented to modern elections....
Maybe Obama will be able to pull it off.... but... I wouldn't bet my farm.
One thing the US hasnt had yet, but prob will be coming if McCain or similar Rovian Repuke gets into the WH, will be a 'Poll Tax' aka 'Community charge',
this obnoxious beast of a anti democratic monster is a flat tax and if you dont register you dont get to vote.
Pefect for disenfranchising the poor people, something that Thatcher borrowed from the 14th C and tried in the 80s in the UK,
mass civil unrest and protests, but it gave the Tories in Britain seventeen years of rule.
They are wearing those terrorists scarves on CNN today.
Too funny.

I've taken this test before, my only reaction is that if no one can pass this test then WTF's the point of being a good Xtian?
Here, on this page was an Advert for "Stand Up For FReedom"...apparently a big thing on John A's priority list.
A good example of the extent one person will take to "stand up for freedom" was beautifully made known by Amy Goodman (Democracynow.org) with a story on George Monbiot - a British activist who recently attempted to arrest John Bolton on war criminal charges at a speaking engagement in Britian.
My question to John A is, you know Amy extremely well and I'm sure you are aware of her daily guests...why not enlighten your people with this story?
Or are websites becoming like TV networks where they'll hidea story to keep them ahead of the "competition"?
In being Canadian, this is a big difference between us and Americans............we get all stories out to everyone, regardless of the author or who originated the story.
Here are two links to 2 tremendous stories. 1- The John Bolton story & 2- a very interesting story on how the USA hides the truth about the genocide of Russians by it's ALLY...."Uncle Joe" Stalin in the '30's (worse than Hitler) and how later, America "tags" Chechens as Islamists terrorists because they are revisting what happened to thei ancestors.

Perhaps someone should send the "good people" at the American Family Association a link which reminds them that Jesus also said:
"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull the mote out of thine eye; and behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast the mote out of thy brother's eye." (Matthew 7: 1-5)
The supposed point of the "Good Person" test is that absolutely nobody is perfect and that we've all been guilty at some point of committing an ethical transgression of some sort, even if only a small one -- which is why they claim that people need Jesus. However, by redirecting all the One News Links to the "Good Person Test", they are clearly implying -- whether they consciously realize it or not -- that they are Good People (or at least Better People) than the average C&L regular. However -- at least according to what I was taught when I was a child -- all ethical transgressions no matter how small are equally grievous and there is really no such thing as "lesser sin", hence the quote referenced above. And for that matter, one might as well ask these people...why is it wrong to bring attention to lies and greed and hypocrisy and corruption? Isn't that a good thing? After all, that's what you claim to be doing...
Oh, wait! I forgot...silly me.

Most of Obama's youth voter target market we're 1 to 10 yrs old years old (if even born) when Dana was doing his thing on SNL.
Apparently, to these dimwits, falling in love with a member of the same sex and committing yourself to a lifetime of companionship is just an "activity".
I don't necessarily approve of sticking your shlong in a vacuum cleaner either - it doesn't mean we should legislate against it.
This is why the Rev. Wright 'scandal' bothered me so much. Religious people are telling Americans we're all going to hell all the time. Rev. Wright's comment 'goddamn America' was only scandalous because he was black.
Bluestocking @ 35:
You were taught correctly. There is no such thing as a "lesser sin". What these people conveniently overlook is if the tell the smallest lie they are equal is God's eyes to that gay neighbor of theirs that they think should be run out of town on a rail for their grave sins. Their judgement upon others makes their position even worse. And, to top it off, the have Bibles and claim to read them. They can't claim ignorance. I forget where this is found in Scripture, but we just covered it last night in church. There are at least 3 places where it is written that those who claim to be believers yet violate God's laws are worse off than those who do not believe at all. The AFA has paved a nice, smooth highway straight to hell for them all.
But the whole point of this quiz? First, to tell you you're going to hell. Second, to convince you to repent. Third, send your checks to us and we'll hand you your ticket to heaven.
They are part of the big deception that we've been warned about.
That 'Good Person Test' is proof that morality and belief in the bible are at best completely unrelated, and quite possibly mutually exclusive. I'm sure Jesus would approve of their methods!
On a side note, what do you think Jesus would say if he saw all the big fancy churches with stained glass and polished marble and huge immaculate parking lots, while only blocks away there were great hordes of poor, hungry, lonely people? Do you think Jesus would be able to sit through a single service at a 'modern' American church?
While listening to David Bowie's song 'I'm afraid of Americans', I wondered if he was right.
That God is an American.
I guess that you'd think that he is, given all of the people that claim to know what he wants, means and has planned are mostly here in this country.
That's rather astounding when you think about it.
To declare such a high level of propriety over a figure in history that never stepped foot in this country is interesting.
'Religion' isn't a creation of 'the Americas' either as 'christianity' was founded on another continent unconnected with North America.
What gives these screeching lunatics the right to be the sole arbiters of the 'word of God' when 'God' wasn't even here? Does God know that these people are claiming to be agents of his organization? Interesting question. It proves that there is no 'God' as such if such hate filled and spiteful egotists are supported by this entity. When the cat's away, the mice will play or did this ‘God’ person not exist in the beginning.
To dismiss the idea of a manufactured ‘God’ dismissed the power, fear and control that 'religion' and its leaders exert over their followers. Why would people force themselves under the yoke of such incredibly power hungry and illogical people… Perhaps religion is a symptom of mental illness… Looks that way to me: opus dei, baptists, catholics, etc…
Filthy Harry @ 40:
That is why these "religious people" are not really Christians. True Christians who concentrate their lives trying to follow God's law would never tell someone they are going to hell, even if they were talking to a murderer. They are not Christians, they are judgmental assholes who are on a superiority kick, clothe themselves in religion to validate their hate and usually have a hidden agenda. Those who think they are speaking for God are severely delusional and should be treated as such, but don't confuse them with Christians. Some of us are really OK but unfortunately we're severely outnumbered.
And I agree with you about Wright.
uncle wally @ 12:
I'll join ya. This is what I scored and I answered the questions on that good person test honestly:
"By your own admission and the standard of God's law, the Ten Commandments, you are a lying, thieving, blasphemous, murderous, adulterer at heart."
My figuring is, that at least I am honest that I have done those things and probably will do those things again. I am after all, only human and the way "God", if you will, made me. I guess its a good thing for me "God's" more forgiving than the Christian Taliban at that website.
Yeah, The devil has me in his grasps. That is do to the Black Metal I listen to and has nothing to do with all the work I do to help society. At least I will be able to debate the policies with Bush and Co with them face to face for eternity!
chris [not the troll] @ 42:
Jesus would not be welcome in a these churches. They wouldn't know Him if they saw Him and He wouldn't want to be there anyway. The real Jesus hung out with thieves and sluts and liars.
Oh, wait. Um, never mind.
I don't get it. The links go to articles, the main link to the test does not work for me. I might be retarded. I was really hoping to see how much of a good person I wasn't....dang.
I've studied many historical religious individuals from many different religions and they always seemed to "become God" in the end. The more religious they became the more "God like" was their behavior. Its as if they take it upon themselves to decide, after a time, who lives and who dies or who goes to the equivalent of Heaven or Hell.
Hell is for loosers
How come The Good Person test has a picture of Chris Wallace?
Here's where all of that test fails, even by the Fundamentalist standards...it fails to ask if you have already repented.
I left the Southern Baptists when I was twelve because I could not wrap my head around a God that had one way conversations. In my twelve year old thinking, if God wasn't listening to your questions, then how could be be listening to your prayers. If God was forgiving, then why did he make forgiveness, even for a twelve year old, such a hard and emotional task.
I saw many of the older kids in the church who were committing what were considered grave sins, and every Sunday, there they were in the line to "repent" and be "saved" crying their weeping and wailing crocidile tears, so their parents would pat them on the head and send them out to commit the same sins. Seemed like a waste of time, and emotions.
I'm not an atheist or an agnostic, I do believe in a higher power. I just believe that He/She is a better parent than the one that the fundamentalist believe in. When you put your children in no win situations all the time they end up being pretty screwed up psychologically. I'm pretty sure that God's love and forgiveness were what Jesus was trying to teach people, and not his wrath and fear. (even if you don't believe in Jesus as a human, the prophet teaching in the New Testament is about love and forgiveness, and not about hellfire and brimstone. St. Paul was the character that introduced that aspect of "the faith" to Christianity.)
Well, isn't that special!
I'm going to burn for eternity in an unprovable concept I refuse to have blind faith in, that has existed for rather short a portion of humanity's existence, much less infinitesimally small time it has existed in our universe itself.
Responding to the Morality Test. If I am angry at someone, I am a murderer? Isn't that a stretch? Aren't the people who wrote the test "angry" at those who give the wrong answers. It looks like it.
beckyboo @ 52:
I also noticed the quiz did not ask you if you had repented. It simply assumed you had not, or if you had you had not 'repented' according to their standards.
The problem doesn't lie with God, but how people believe. What I call the "repentance cycle" that you describe is a prime example. Church leadership was not stepping up to say "excuse me... again?!" when those same people came forward week after week. It was the duty of church leadership to tell these kids and their parents that they were using public repentance to ease their guilty feelings and no more. True repentance means you've learned something and will try your best not to repeat. If your intentions are otherwise then you're lying - to God. And it is a waste of time and emotions, and it doesn't teach children anything except how they can use repentance for a free ride to do whatever. Now THAT is a popular, appealing notion! Selling that is what has given us mega-churches and millionaire televangelists.
The AFA is headquartered in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Nuff said
Hehe. I'm going to hell for getting angry and looking at someone with lust.
Who are these people? They actually spend time and money to produce this drivel, it's sad really. Believing in an imaginary being is a total waste of time to becoming a good person.
At least as long as they're around we can have some fun at their expense. I'm an atheist which allows me to enjoy life and live it much fuller then any religion can try miserably to do.
I have not found any christianity in the right wing christians. They may call themselves whatever they choose but that does not make them christians.
If god didn't want me to look at a woman with lust, then why did he invent tits?
If Heaven is filled with the likes of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson then, to borrow the title from an old AC/DC song, Hell ain't a bad place to be.

Just ebcause I don't approve of it does not mean that I haven't done it!
Does anybody remember that "psychology evaluation" that Scientologists used to pass out? No matter how you answered the questions, it turned out that you needed Scientology to straighten yourself out. That's what I thought of when I looked at this "test"- only the Scientologists were much cleverer in hiding the fact that the test was rigged.
Anyone that does not feel it is reasonable, rational or acceptable, to accept, utilize, or promote spiritual conjecture as a validation for any social, economic or political application (outside of a purely fictional context) has the potential to be far more ethical than anyone who does.
Posthumous penalty systems do not scare me.
Hell is for children.
AFA appears to be obsessed with gays and abortion. Are these really the most important issues, i.e., things they cannot control, do not effect them, and our choices of others? Talk about nanny-state reich-wingers....
That is a funny test, not one Christian would pass it any better than a non Christian if you believe such bench marks exist.
Heh heh heh! That was a fun test.
I posted my results here. Spoiler: I'm going to hell. As if we didn't already know that.
How funny! The "test" is a classic case of "Heads I win Tails you lose." No matter how you answer the questions you are a SINNER!

Individuals in the media industry have criticized Donald Wildmon, the founder of AFA. Gene Mater, Senior Vice President of CBS Television, has stated, "We look upon Wildmon's efforts as the greatest frontal assault on intellectual freedom this country has ever faced" and Brandon Tartikoff, former NBC Entertainment President, stated that Wildmon's boycott campaign was "the first step toward a police state."[78]
Why complain about them as long as they are using tax payers money to spread their lies?
They, like many other smear orientated organizations take money from right wingers and do not have to pay one red cent in taxes, they are tax exempt!
It is time we too them on and made sure they are taxed the same as any other lobbaying businesses. they own approximately 200 AFA-owned radio stations and I am sure they are either owners or part owners of other right wing news publications

What about the rights of people who do not approve of the folks who disapprove, and so on, in an endless progression? It's a silly argument, right up there with "how dare you say my right to swing my fist stops short of your face? I have a right to swing my fist wherever I want to!" It's a balancing test, in which the rights of people to their own personal beliefs are balanced against their right to use their power to impose those beliefs upon others.
We had this argument back when individual restaurant and hotel owners claimed the right to refuse to allow non-whites (or Jews) into their establishments. Large portions of the country became virtually impossible for blacks to travel in, because they couldn't rent a hotel room, or get a meal in a restaurant. When the laws changed to outlaw such discrimination, a number of people closed their businesses down or changed them into "private clubs" rather than go against their beliefs.
And so, the answer is that (in this case) balancing the significant burdens placed upon gay people by denying them the right to marry versus the insignificant burden placed on the right to associate by forcing them to associate with folks they find distasteful in certain public settings, the court decided (properly, in my view) to allow gay marriage. After all, either very few gays will get married, in which case the bigots won't have to see it very often, or a bunch of gays will get married, in which case a significant percentage of the population would have had their rights improperly denied by refusing them the privilege of marriage.
(As one columnist noted, the only folks who were really harmed by this ruling were the gay people who told their partners "I'd marry you in a minute, dearest - but I can't because it's illegal." They'll have to put up or shut up, now.)

If you go to the test, you will discover what we already know.
By the American Family Association's standards, George Bush, Cheney and his entire bunch are liars, a thieves, blasphemerers and murdererers (their standard is being angry with your brothers makes you a murderer, never mind the fact of 4000+ dead US troops and God-knows-how-many Iraqis). The only one I can't pin on Bush is adulterer, and he's probably crossed that threshhold, too. For someone who seems to leading us to the rapture, he's gonna look pretty funny on that bench in the gates of hell.
I know that pic is from SNL, but am I the only one that thinks it looks like McCain in drag?
My dial-up is bogging down but I wanted to mention since St Augustine brought up the conservatives Who believe in reincarnation theme.
In the Bible Jesus and his apostles came across a man who was born blind. So the apostles asked Jesus, "Who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?" (John 9:2-3 KJV) How could a mortal man have committed a sin BEFORE he was born without a past life?
Additionally, reincarnation seemed to be part of the doctrine of Origenes Adamantius, who was accounted a revered church father for about 300 years until his teaching were anathemized as being Gnostic. But I've never heard if anyone ever asked Adamantius, "Don't drink, don't smoke, tell us what do you do?"
does anyone remember how jimmy carter was laffed at for stateing that he had "lust in his heart" the mocking came from evangelicals too
look....if these people are the ones populating heavan...i want god to send me straight to hell....i do not wish to spend eternity with any of them
id rather party with the sinners
So...
According to the test... His holy majesty George W Bush.. and the rest of em ... are all going to hell...
(because they obviously do not walk the line)
---And honestly.. sure I stole some petty stuff as a kid, told a fib or two in my day, looked at a hottie with carnal desire, and been angry with someone .. is that really the same thing as stealing hundreds of billions?... destroying nations... killing hundreds of thousands or a million.. and molested the German Chancellor in public??..
Does that mean I have to go to hell with these repiglican bastards?
I just went and took the good person test, Hilarious and desperate attempt to railroad you into one answer and that is you are a liar and you are going to hell no matter what you type in. What a small-minded group of retards these people are. Religion is a tool for the ruling class to make you feel inadequate...nice try losers. Ha Ha.
Saint Augustine @ 74:
Frankly -- if I may play "devil's advocate" for a bit (something which I find often find hard to resist) -- there are moments when I'm convinced that were it not for the belief in divine reward and/or the threat of divine punishment, human beings would have exterminated themselves completely centuries ago. I think that anyone who's studied human nature would agree that human beings are neither inherently moral nor inherently immoral -- but for the most part inherently amoral and all-too inclined to do whatever is most expedient and which serves their own purposes best at the time regardless of whether it falls within the acceptable guidelines of the societal ethics or not. Call me a cynic...but in all honesty, I think that a majority of people would do just about anything regardless of whether it violated the societal code of ethics or not if they had reason to believe that they wouldn't get caught or wouldn't be punished -- and it seems safe to assume that even after you've counted those who've chosen to break the societal code even with the knowledge that they will probably be caught and punished by earthly authorities (let alone any divine ones), there are probably still others who would be quite happy to break the societal code but are intimidated by the threat of the earthly authorities, and still more who would be happy to violate the code even in disregard of earthly authorities but are held back by the threat of divine retribution. In any case, my psychology professors always used to say that it's a sign of very low-level moral development when a person' sole or primary ethical guide is the potential for reward or the threat of punishment, regardless of whether earthly or divine -- and that it's not much better to use outside authorities as the sole or primary guide for moral decisions, either.
I imagine that you'd be tickled by a cartoon drawn by one of my favorite political commentators, Ann Telnaes, upon the death of Jimmy Falwell. Needless to say, it's clearly quite an eye-opening experience for him when he is informed that there is no Heaven and that his only options for reincarnation are a woman, a liberal, or a homosexual...

The AFA uses a basic referrer redirect so the links only take you to the test in question IF you click on them from the PFAW website. So click on the main article link: PfAW’s Right Wing Watch - then click the other links in that article it mentions and you will go to the "Good Person Test". If you click on the Onenewsnow links from C&L then you get the actual articles - at least for now.
Paraphrased:
That test is wrong on so many levels.
It includes for example the passage from the NT that all are sinners and come short of Gods calling.
And it hales this as proof that we're going to hell.
Well if this is true all 12 of Christs diciples are already in hell as is Mary mother of Christ.

Bateman @ 5:
No, you need to be on the RightWingWatch site to see the test. When you click them here, the referrer tells them the link was clicked from C&L, and thus shows you the article. However, if you're on RWW and you click the link there, then the referrer tells them it's from RWW and they redirect you to another site.
BTW, the people at RWW link incorrectly, they added a slash after the first link to ONN which will cause the link to break if you click it from C&L (short story: the link contains an "id" which is expected to be a number, however by adding a slash this isn't recognised as a number and the server throws an error).
Redirecting based on the referrer is pretty easy with a Windows server (IIS), which is what ONN use.
Listen to them talking about their imaginary friend who's going to save them, right up up to the point where they cease to exist. Douchebags.

Oh, right, make that little "ooh, ooh" face that means you're saved so you can't say all the nasty shit you're really thinking in your rage-engorged low-functioning mind.
Zzzip! Witness this!
Oops, looks like I slipped and took a big meaty dump on the bible!
...ooh, look, I can't quite make it out beneath that intact piece of moist corn, but it looks like nonexistent phony jesus still loves me. Praise be.
I got a A+ on my jesis test, so there!
I took the "good person test". It was chastising me (that little guy looked at me very disapprovingly!!!). Of course I clicked the "wrong" answers (for fun). It won't let you go past this page, "You're right, I'm guilty before God." There is no option but to click this and confess, to continue. Instead I came running back here. Ha ha ha. What a bunch of sanctimonious schmucks.
Ha ha! You can't possibly pass this test.
If you answer "correctly" all the way through, they call you a liar.
If you say, "No, I'm NOT a good person", right off the bat, they say, "Why not? At least take the test and find out!"
At one point, it even says,
"But, if you knew a human judge who would not punish a guilty rapist for his crimes, would you describe him as a just judge??"
You hear that, everybody? You're all rapists!
"What about the rights of those who do not approve of these activities?"
Well, how about the right of those that don't approve of war and torture. The list will be endless, so I'll leave it at those two: you can fill out your own list mentally.
According to Dick Cheney 50 + 1 = a mandate, so shut the fuck up. The other 49% can go suck eggs.
In this case, the court decided. Remember, that's how Bush became president. !!!!!
ZombieNation @ 28:
It's more likely she'd run as McSame's VP. (Maybe that's always been the plan??)
ferrofluid (Obama 08) @ 38:
Not to mention sickeningly boring.
holy crap, according to this test, god is the most awful entity in the universe!
course, according to real faith, god is forgiving and fair
i'll guarantee you, if Christ came down unannounced and did what He did 2000 years ago, he wouldnt be killed by the Jews...he would be killed by the evangelicals. cause NOBODY takes money out of THEIR pockets...
Well, I hope the person who made this test realizes that they are a liar. Misrepresenting Jesus is something I'm sure God would not take lightly.
Test says: "Jesus Said in Matthew 5 that whoever is angry at his brother without just cause is guilty of murder."
Actually, it says:
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou ashalt not bkill; and whosoever shall kill shall be cin danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is aangry with his brother bwithout a cause shall be cin danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, dRaca, shall be ein danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
It does not say those that hate for unjust reasons are murderers, however if they let if consume them and they judge their brother with jest, they shall be judged. Actually everyone gets 'judged', positive or negative is up to the way you handled situations.
If one is to follow Jesus on how to quelth the anger, then Bush and his group are not really in line. Lines 24-25 say something that would mean appeasement is the way to go
24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be areconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
It's not a line as absolute as they claim it to be, the angry person has time to reconcile and get off the path. It is advise, not to let your hate consume you, not to go to the 'dark side'.
Well, too bad there isn't a hell because surely the American Family Association and their attitudes have earned one. Since the whole thing is fantasy, only the insane would take it all so seriously.
Which causes a chill up the spine when I realize how many actually do take it all quite seriously.
strike me down now! @ 99:
Narrow minded and hate filled.
strike me down now! @ 100:
Narrow minded, hate filled, and childish.
Well, I'm going to hell, but I requested a bible study be sent to me, so as to cost them $$$. They also need to change their logo for "GodTube." It looks like God Lube. Not the kind of association you necessarily want to project.
I can see it now:
I forgot to mention that Mark Twain made a similar joke.
The Widder Douglas was trying to get some religion into Huck Finn, and part of it was regular Bible readings. When she was teaching him about Heaven and Hell, Huck asked where Tom Sawyer would be.
The Widder answered that Tom Sawyer would be in hell.
So Huck says he wants to go to hell to, so he could be with all his friends.
ysbaddaden @ 115:
That's a rip off of an old Irish joke.
You know what really distresses me about the state of our country? The number of people who buy into a torture theology.
Phony nonexistent christ says ya have to love me! So do it! You wanna go to hell? Then DO IT!!!
Strike me down now! @ 118:
Hope you enoy voting for Christians 'cause that's what you're going to do this fall.
lol sucks to be you.
That's more like it - Mister Sniffy Sniffington from Holytown gives up the sanctimonious act.
I just think the AFA is wrong, but they think I'm going to be tortured for all eternity for what I think. Who's the kinder person?
Icelander @ 121:
Oh but it's more twisted.
They think you deserve to be tortured for all eternity.
I don't know what's wrong with these people.
Christ on the cross forgave at least one career criminals on the grounds that the man was truley sorry for what he had done.
This group is seriously f**ked up. They are obsessing on gays and liberals.
here is the prober link to their VERY DISTURBING AND DISGUSTING home page:

But the Bible is full of lies. It was written by people wasn't it? People are liars. So much for the validity of the test. Circular logic is a bitch!
chris [not the troll] @ 124:
Are you calling Martin Luther King stupid?
Hell has the best music.
Cal @ 127:
Maybe he knew it was all a sham... :)
the alternate links aren't taking me to the the "Good Person Test". I didn't take it, since I'm progressive leaning, I already know I'm a good person...
chris [not the troll] @ 129:
Maybe you're trolling.
Doesn't the F in AFA really stand for Fascist?
In other words, these righteous folks at the American Family Association are really Fascists, and are hardly Christian. But then again, I've realized for some time that conservatives have a hard time with that whole Christian thing.
Several years ago, I studied the New Testament, looking for conservative ideas versus liberal ideas in it. I determined that Jesus Christ was a liberal, primarily based on everything that he said and did that was liberal, probably making him the most liberal and radical Jew in his generation. Washing the feet of women who were not members of his immediate family. Taking on the corporatist, monied interests in the temple in Jerusalem. Talking about feeding the poor and hungry, visiting the people in prison, clothing the people wearing rags, and forgiving even one's enemies. Plus, Jesus Christ was obviously against the death penalty and torturing people, while those who crucified him were for the death penalty and for torturing people. Sound familiar? I thought so.
This is why the conservatives populating the AFA embrace hell, embrace sin...and embrace an ultra-conservative administration led by an ultra-conservative president who set a record as governor of Texas in the number of executions committed by the state on his watch, and who as president okayed the use of torture against human beings being held captive in secret prisons.
So, I have a really hard time believing that these "good people" at the American Fascist...er, Family Association are really Christian. They seem to have the same conservative mind-set as the killers of Jesus Christ, in my humble opinion.
they have already changed those links. the 'any of these other links' all take you to the original articles now.
Cal @ 131:
Maybe your sense of humor needs a tune-up. You disagree with the Seneca quote?
deezus @ 18:
The test and everything else at that sight are works of manipulation. These Chri$tians start with the premise there is a god and Jesus came to save us. The facts are that tens of thousands of gods have been created throughout human history. All of them a tool to strike fear into stupid people's minds in order to control them more easily. The AFA doesn't give a shit about your soul. All they want is your money.
Jusker @ 16:
That's not quite right. That's a Protestant version of Christianity. Catholics of all stripes, Roman, Anglican, Assyrian, Eastern Orthodox, Coptic, and possibly more believe it is works and faith.
Pelagius and his Pelagians and Neo-Pelagians believed people could get to heaven under their own efforts (ostensibly by obeying Christian rules whether they identified themselves as such or not), but taught that being Christian made a hard job easier. Of course the were eventually anathemized by the Roman Catholics.
Cal @ 116:
I already mentioned about Ossian of the Fianna and St Patrick.
Only they weren't joking.
That thing's frickin' hysterical.
According to it, if you've ever been merely ANGRY with another person, God considers you a MURDERER.
LOLOL!
Well if their characterizations are correct, then the only thing that site has proven to me, is that God's a JERK.

this reminds me of an honesty / reliability test i had to take once when i worked in a crummy gas station. the only way the 'pass' the test and be considered honest was to lie your face off, so that's what i did.
"would you ever steal?" NO! ----- of course i'd steal if i had to.
"have you ever told a lie? OF COURSE NOT! --- but of course i was lying.
So I decided what the heck. I don't really expect them to tell me I'm going to Hell. And what do ya know. Sure enough. I'm going to hell. For being a murderer.
Another thought on the subject of Heaven and Hell from Robert Ingersoll
and once again paraphrasing because the spring in the old steel trap brain's getting rusty
"If one gets used to pain and bored with pleasure where is the value in an eternity that promises either?"
They say there's a Heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better, I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners
than cry with the saints
the sinners are much more fun
ya know that only the good die young.
chris [not the troll] @ 134:
It's pretty obvious that Gandhi, Gregor Mendel, and Martin Luther King truly believed and that they weren't stupid.
Amazing. Christian fascists are no different than their Islamic colleagues.
I like it when Sean Penn appeared on the Church Lady show; he was still married to Madonna at the time.
