Obama Criticizes ‘Presidential Fathers’ for Abandoning Their ‘Challenged Children’

Glad I'm not McCain. If I were, I would not be looking forward to the debates. But then again, McCain just might be eager. He is a complete fool, after all.

Not that I want to kick anyone when they're down, but from This Modern World...

December 19, 1999: Tim Russert says on Meet the Press: “One year ago Saddam Hussein threw out all the inspectors who could find his chemical or nuclear capability.”

Soon afterward: Sam Husseini leaves a message on Russert’s answering machine, and speaks to two of his assistants, telling them the inspectors were withdrawn by the UN at the request of the United States.

January 2, 2000: Tim Russerts repeats the error on Meet the Press: “One year ago, the inspectors were told, ‘Get out,’ by Saddam Hussein.”

January 21, 2000: Sam Husseini writes a letter to Russert, again laying out the facts, and requests a correction.

January 22, 2000-March 19, 2003: Russert never corrects his error.

Yeah, he was a giant head in journalism...

The war is working so well that a Pakistani managed to arm Iran and N. Korea. But hey, who cares if that region is unstable?

Obama's speech was on CNN today...the anchors were busy dissecting whether or not he was "sincere" or whether everything he said was an effort to appeal to "angry white men" who like to see black people being scolded.

Isn't there some McCain demonstrable untruth we could be discussing about instead? I guess not...

corrected for correctness. the mention of iran in a statement that information

MAY HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO ...

is a crock of shit perpetrated to keep Iran in the crosshairs until another convenient lie comes around. I'd like to know if the ring is the same ring that produced the Italian yellowcake receipts.

not your fault.
you're being informative.
the liars are lying to all of us.
Iran hasn't attacked anyone in 500 years?
we're expecting that they are some grevious threat and they have a navy that consists of 8 skidoos?
a swiss team of intel smugglers?
are we sure that someone in guantanamo didn't reveal this under torture?
I expect more stories that mention Iran will multiply as the year winds down so "war powers" gorge boosh will pretend he has reason to defend US from a country that can barely attack an enemy 5 miles off its coast.

Our own government doesn't know the source of those tainted tomatoes.

He's never going to have credibility! He's either pandering or simply insincere. Playing a crowd as a deft political manipulator or he has great speechwriters.

absolutely nothing positive will ever be attributed to him for this campaign. now that the press has only Obama to concentrate on, there will be no let-up.

Watching sports is shockingly evil or hateful? I don't really see it myself but perhaps that's because I am a proud American and apparently that's quite typical of me. Everyone needs to unwind and be a bit distracted from time to time.

The comment theives and liars well they have been around since politics started and will continue because thats what politics is all about.Polititions make promises they know they can't keep but this is the way it goes. They will promise you the moon just as long as they get in where the money is and thats what it is all about anymore the money.I always thought that the government and with the polititions was suppose to be for the people not anymore they are only in it for theirselves.I also thought it was suppose to be we the people for the people not anymore as we well know it is and probabl always will be from now on be we the government for the government, they are in that catagory theives and liars, thats they truth may god strike me dead if it is not.Sincerely.

The truth may set you free but it may also put many of the Bush cartel in prison!

Megan McCains blog,

Well its official, I am a Republican. Dad woke up in a rage and announced he was going to make an honest woman of me. We walked into the SS office and to the front of the line where Dad announced “I am ready to give my little girl away”. Some guys in the line objected as though they didn’t know who we were so Dad set him straight by asking them where they were while some brave Americans were being tortured by the gooks. You go Dad. Who do these people think they are?
Anyway that set the tone for the day and when we get home and turned on the TV there is the democrat nominee playing golf…and winning. Dad lost his mind. He got right on the phone to his campaign staffer and told him to take the McSame golf gear off the shelves at the intertube store and not to say a word. We then laminated my new membership card with scotch tape and called Tim but nobody was home.
Some days you just cant win.

Obama's team thinks he can win without Florida and Ohio.

So everything's working out so well that Afghanistan might go to war with Pakistan.

Faux 0 Reality 1

The truth its getting out there, Repuglicans beware

Quoting the context in full is quite important. I say that because part of what makes this country's right-wing commentators so pernicious is their willingness to bend journalism into what is tantamount to bogus credit cards boasting no fees. The distance from the truth is of no concern to the right-wingers. What they engage in is strange because their tactics are now so easily and so quickly disproved. The Internet has seen to that.

The big truth, however, is that material refuting right-wing faux journalists stays on the public record and can prove them the liars and distorters that they are. One can hear what someone actually said, free of the specious editing used to distort. The context is forever available.

One thing that I'd like to correct to irreligious types on here:

Religion, in the sense of worshiping dangerous and unknown forces in order to appease them, is a Neanderthal innovation. While we were still just an isolated population of H. rhodesiensis that was developing our anatomy, Neanderthals were developing the first sort of "religion" known to the Great Apes. Eventually, when our kind started its great expansion, our religion displaced theirs. I wouldn't be surprised if on some level human religion actually derives just a little bit from our predecessor religion, that of H. neanderthalensis. Religion has changed dramatically over the last 150,000 years, but the old purpose of its origin, namely as a tribal distinguishing feature, survives even in the moderate religious.

No matter how true or untrue my religion (Christianity) is, religion did not evolve with humanity. Neanderthals had already made that path for us.

If anything should put a stake through John McCain's absurd gas tax holiday idea, it's that the Saudi King advocates it, too!
Note to McCain: If the Saudis are advocating your energy policy, you probably want to rethink it, lest you end up like that other Saudi hand-holder.
As an aside, since McCain doesn't propose to pay for his gas tax holiday, the lost revenue would either increase the budget deficit (more U.S. bonds for the Saudis to buy) or come out of the Highway trust fund (fewer jobs and more decaying US transportation infrastructure).
The gas tax holiday remains one of the worst ideas ever proposed by a 'serious' presidential candidate.

Exactly WHY you don't run the world like its a corporation/business: CEO pay rose higher in '07 despite economic woes - http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AP_EXECUTIVE_COMPENSATION?SITE=AP...
As the American economy slowed to a crawl and stockholders watched their money evaporate, CEO pay still chugged to yet more dizzying heights last year, an Associated Press analysis shows. The AP review of compensation for the heads of companies in the Standard & Poor's 500 index finds the median pay package added up to nearly $8.4 million.
That's a comfortable gain of about $280,000 from 2006. The 3 1/2 percent pay increase for CEOs came even as the landscape for both workers and shareholders darkened considerably and the economy was choked by a housing market in free fall, layoffs and soaring prices for fuel and food. Collectively, the 10 best-paid CEOs made more than half a billion dollars last year.
Yet half the members of this stratospheric club were leading companies whose profits shrank dramatically.

The Electoral College is an affront to basic democracy, warping competition and subverting political equality -- even when it works. The Electoral College is the exploding cigar of American politics. Four times, the candidate who won fewer votes nonetheless has become president. (Political scientists, with rare concision, call this the "wrong winner" problem.)

But now, my life revolves around my two little girls. And what I think about is what kind of world I’m leaving them. Are they living in a country where there’s a huge gap between a few who are wealthy and a whole bunch of people who are struggling every day?
Are they living in a country that is still divided by race? A country where, because they’re girls, they don’t have as much opportunity as boys do? Are they living in a country where we are hated around the world because we don’t cooperate effectively with other nations?
Are they living a world that is in grave danger because of what we’ve done to its climate?

I don't watch sports. I listened to an episode of 1952 Lone Ranger, with Brace Beemer as the Masked Man.

I would recommend the J J Bachofen book Myth, Religion & Mother's Rights on the subject.

Additionally, for many Protestants God is no longer the kingly hoary figure, but Ward Cleaver.

Heh, you're right there. Too bad they don't get that Ward Cleaver wasn't real, and neither is their concept of God. I believe God exists, but He is a much wilder, more powerful force than they conceive him of.

In particular, I'm wondering if Neanderthals didn't just give rise to Wodewose and Basajauns, but also early H. sapiens discoveries of Neanderthal sacred sites and perhaps their co-option by us. Perhaps ancient Egyptian and Greek religion with its sacred beings that were monsters and the old cave-paintings in Europe that reflect monsters are survivals of pre-human religion.

Anywho, that's my amateur theory. I follow Christ, but unlike a lot of the noisier Christians of my stripe (Evangelical-a politer term for arrogant Fundie asshole if ever there was one) I don't try to proclaim Christ from the rooftops. If someone's interested in Christianity, I talk about it. As a certain merchant orphan said "Let there be no compulsion in religion." ;)

One thing that I wish had turned out different in Protestantism is that for a time the Reformation could have produced a Christianity that was focused on scholarship and talent. A damn shame that version of Protestantism died and was replaced by Luther and Calvin.

this country is going to hell in a hand basket, and your watching grown men chase a rubber ball around a room.

typically american.

sorry but as a 4 time letterman from my high school, i can say i love to play sports, they teach team building and responsibility, but the largess, the crime, the drugs, the distraction of professional sports is HEINOUS to me.

I listened to the speech while watching the game. if you're so CONCERNED, go do something rather than sitting on your ass and typing at people.

Some days you just cant win.

at least he didn't call her a c++t.

Bush is MIA, again...

Iowa Nearly three years ago as people were drowning in NOLA, the so-called leader of this nation dashed eagerly from one side of the country to another -fund-raising for his party- without a moment's care for his fellow Americans in their time of crisis. In fact, whenever a national crisis has occurred, Bush has been conspicuously absent. During the fourth or fifth day of the Katrina massacre and the missing leadership of this nation, I wrote the following:

We have no leadership, no captain at the helm as it were. We are, in effect, being led from disaster to disaster by a headless horseman run amok with stuffed pockets and an empty conscience.

We are here, again. This time in Iowa, where tens of thousands of Americans are without a home, many dead, many injured and once again, during this national crisis Bush is busy playing voodoo politics (This time in Europe).

Here is what is happening in Iowa:
- More national guard troops deploy into disaster territory
- Iowa in a drinking water emergency
- Culver City, 36,000 homeless
- Des Moines is mostly underwater
- Death toll as of today at 20 (from what they have been able to determine in the chaos)
- 83 Iowa Counties declared disaster zones

Where is the god-damn president of this nation? After Bush was told on 9/11 that the nation was under attack, he did not even turn around to ask if the attack happened to be nuclear. He ate cake with John McCain while the people in and around NOLA died, begging for help. He is once again MIA in a time of crisis now. Is it that George W. Bush does not consider Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New York as part of the Union? I remember Kanye West saying "George Bush does not care about black people," and thinking it probably right. But I have come to reconsider that opinion. It is not that George Bush does not care about black people in particular, he simply does not care about Americans. It is that simple. His legacy - on which he often opines with great pride - will be a single ground zero, like a crater the size of the moon, filled with ashes, bones, bodies, and the stench of lies and decaying flesh.

And the media? Well, you don't even have to wonder. Tim Russert has passed and therefor all news will be suspended until further notice.

Rice in Beirut on Unannounced Visit
By ROBERT F. WORTH and GRAHAM BOWLEY
Published: June 17, 2008

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made an unannounced visit to Lebanon on Monday, the first by a senior American official since the political agreement here that strengthened the power of Hezbollah, the militant Shiite group that the United States considers a terrorist organization.

After the agreement was reached late last month among the country’s political factions, American officials described it as a positive step although it was clearly a setback for the United States, which had consistently urged Lebanon’s government not to make any concessions to Hezbollah.

The political deal gave Hezbollah decisive new powers, such as the power to veto any cabinet decision. But Ms. Rice on Monday voiced support for the new agreement.

“Congratulations,” Ms. Rice said as she shook hands with Gen. Michel Suleiman, who was elected last month as president following the power-sharing agreement, filling a post that had been vacant since November. “We are all just very supportive of your presidency and your government.”

Joking aside, maybe follow the teachings of Christ, but not worship him, nor think it terribly original.

L.A. Confidential @ 90:

Why are lesbians called lesbians instead of being referred to as people, a person, or a human being?

Because lesbianism is kewl.

Ok LA confidential, here is the skinny. In the early 1970s as the gay movement gave birth to itself, they began exploring the nomenclature choices and gay was the consensus (there were words of outrage in conservative circles that such a sweet word was being stolen and destroyed by sodomites -- really). But this was a time that men and women had separate bars and did not welcome each other so much. So it became gay men and lesbians out of deference and respect to the womens arguments for an exclusive noun for them to own. At the time I thought that gay men and women made more sense ---- but it was a political necessity for unity and now it is done. Now to the word homosexual; whenever you take an adjective and use it as a noun to describe millions of diverse peoples --- it is a pejorative meant to demean and to be dismissive. If you don't agree then try this -- take off the prefix and use it in a sentence. "I saw a sexual walking across campus last night..." OH really, would you tell me what the fuck did it look like???Thus endith lesson 101 late 20th century North American Gay Culture...chapter 1

Christ and Gautama's stories are remarkably similar, and in some ways, I'm almost positive that Gautama Buddha's stories influenced the Christian story. They probably had to do that, as the Buddhists may have been missionizing in more places than just Alexandria in 1st Century AD Rome.

The teachings differ mainly in that Buddhism states that there is no reality greater than oneself, and even the oneself is not real, whereas Christianity states that the reality is greater than oneself, and revealed to a Jewish rabbi and a minor tribal people throughout history.

Both are equally batshit from an outsider's perspective. I respect your right to believe as you believe. Too many "Christians" in this country don't, though.

1 point..... BO's speech was great. I am glad that when he feels it necessary to quote from the Christian Bible that he does so in church. Too often Politicians feel it necessary to prostelize to the public when they are supposed to being doing the work of the people. Keep your god in church, he does less damage that way.

This definitely was not a feel good speech. I think he was brave to give. There was a lot here that could be difficult to hear, especially if you are an absent African-American father. Or the millions killed by state Islam and state Christianity, or the hundreds of thousands sacrificed to Huitzilopochtli. Paul Hill for one. He matches all the criteria Evangelicals set. Or, for another example, Basil II the Bulgar Slayer, or for the one example you really can't criticize because without him our Eastern Mystery religion would have been put on the ashbin of history: Theodosius II the Great.

Or, I could just say the armies in the Thirty Years' War that were killing the heretics, or Alexander Nevsky and his Teutonic Knight opponents. Or, for a more controversial example, the Apostle Peter.

Why the media blackout on Michael Reagan's death threat toward anti-war activists. The mainstream corporate media is not telling us the truth. It is censored and well chosen to support certain viewpoints that are beneficial to the corporate dominated war efforts and government. Sad.

When the "church" joined the roman empire, or any political state, it stops being the church. Its a political club. Used for swaying of the masses. Its not fullfilling of what Christ said. Paul Hill? There is no earthly "Army of God". God doesn't need an army. He can destroy the entire universe with a whisper. Paul Hill was not showing the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance. Neither did the those in the Thirty years War, or Teutonic Knights or crusaders, or those who did pogroms against jews, or those of the Inquisition.

Interesting thing the bible says "No murderer shall enter into heaven". Furthermore Christ said "There will be those that say they heal and teach in my name, but in the end I will say to them 'depart from Me, I never knew you'"

One last thing, Peter didn't kill anyone. He cut their ear off, to which Christ said "Those who live by the sword will die by the sword."

I think the speech was mis-characterized. Obama barely mentioned the race of fathers in the speech. This was a speech for all fathers. It is foolish to characterize these types of issues as the purview of black people. Socio-economic trends that effect the black community eventually effect those that are not presently as vulnerable.

I'm thinking of the Ananias and Sapphira incident. Acts says the Holy Spirit, but there's hints in the early Church Fathers and a couple of blatant statements that it was a homicide.

I'm a Christian, Evangelical to be precise, and for a very long time in Europe and prior to about the late 19th Century in North America, Christian was the ethnic group Europeans would identify as. Nowadays the terms German, French, Spaniard and so forth are used. Not for much of the history of Christendom.

The Bible also says "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed," and "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." You can take it all and interpret it, or interpret it selectively and thereby twist Christian out of what it meant historically to suit your own agenda.

The Bible should be interpreted both in the light of Ehud's murder of that Vladimir Harkonnen-esque Moabite, and Christ's overturning the cultural values of his day. One without the other gets you Evangelicalism.

Obama is quoting Lawrence Fishburne from the movie "Boyz n the hood" about "any fool can have a child". Yep, good movie too. Poor Trey.

Heres an interesting tidbit you guys might want to read.
Bush and Cheney's interviews to be subpoenaed.

see ya.

And many woman will be forced to have children in today's USA. Men do force themselves on women, both their one night stands and their wives. And in many states today, woman have no access to birth control or morning after pills or abortions. Let's talk about that for awhile. I agree that many men are AWOL, but many more women have no choice but to bear their children. And the Repuclicants have blocked every sensible means of stopping unwanted pregnancy. As several have said: "love the fetus, hate the child."

I thought that Obama sincerely believed what he was saying. He is also a politician so of course there was pandering going on.

Obama is making a tactical move to assure undecided moderate white voters that he is willing to defecate on black unwed mothers and black deadbeat dads as much as any right-wing conservative.

It's unfortunate Obama choose to pander to the white undecided voters rather than adhere to the theme of his campaign and not make this thing about race. The value of fatherhood is a crucial factor for all races; not just black. Obama should demonstrate consistency and criticize bad parenting in general; not just blacks. Divorce is even more devastating to children and it's effect crosses all ethnic & economic lines: not just blacks. Obama aids & abets the mass media to portray black folks in a bad light. Michael Vick gets more publicity than all the thousands of black men who earn college degrees each year combined.

I do not understand why you would not publish.I have told the truth and will continue to do so.If this the reason you did not publish is because it was the truth then there is something wrong wih this world and the that is in it.The truth will stand when the the world is at it's end and all of us are gone, still there will be the truth.

I still believe that if Obama gets into office we as americans will pay dearly and so will the whole world. If you donot publish this opinion then that is my gain and your loss for not beingable to see what the future holds for all of us.
