Going on right now.
Those Google people sure do have a sense of humor. I can't believe they didn't have an accompanying photo for that portion of the trek.
Why would you go to Washington instead of straight to LA?
What's the distance kayaking record?
Much better than an inane command to sprout wings and fly...

Go here and vote (yes):

Best name ever!
Are these new directions for Thor Heyerdahl?
Good one Bluegal.
That step number six would really do a number on the 'ol man boobs, eh?
so nader accuses obama of talking white.
obama responded by saying "why, muffy, i'm taking the yacht over to the regatta, while jeeves cleans the pool house. let's have some sushi and bottled water. and then let's put on sweaters!"
I just kayaked in from Australia and boy, are my arms tired. :) Thanks for the grins.
Who ever did that didn't even choose the "Avoid Hiways" feature.
skippy @ 10:
And Nader is the guy that some of the crybabies want to vote for because Obama won over Clinton. Nice choice. NOT!
I found my car on teh google map...
The kayakers could jog a little bit north to cross the International Date Line and the Equator where they intersect. Who knows what they'll find there.
Ha! Joke's on Google, 'cause you can't beach your kayak at Gasworks Park. These directions are useless now!
rp @ 15:
Waves with dotted lines. Once you've seen it you wonder what the big deal was.
I'm thinking the Kayaker should haul out at East Lynn St, not Northlake. It's much more direct to the freeway, and shorter too.
7. Go east on East Lynn St
8. Turn left on Boylston Ave E.
9. Take the ramp straight ahead onto I-5
skippy @ 10:
Wow, Nader showing his true color, I suspected he was a closet bigot!
Gensior @ 16:
That's right. It's bulkheads there.
will someone please quote the subchapter and paragraph of the FISA bill that grants telcos retroactive immunity.
No stop in New Zealand and Hawaii? WTF?
I voted for Nader because in Idaho your presidential vote doesn't count anyway. Might as well stick with your principles.

Gensior @ 16:
Or perhaps hauling out at Golden Gardens or Carkeek Park, either of which have a straight shot to I-5 via 105th street.
mrplow @ 23:
So, you going to vote for him again? I felt that his statements might be a bit racist.
McC*nt should be very very worried, esp about his campaign finance legalities.
You gotta laugh, McCain the pretend Republican candidate, the throw away disposable September retiree.
McC*nt: Can we fix it? or ignore it !
FEC: Yes we can!
Lieberman: Um... yeah, I think so. but I hope not.
MSM: Look at the Britney pics, phoooooar (while munching a McC*nt special hotdog)
LibertyLover @ 25:

Nader FOAD
miss_kitty @ 28:
Are they comong to Renton? If so they have to take the exit for MLK.
Kill someone while robbing a liquor store, get a lethal injection; rape a 5-year old and 8-year old, get life. I'm generally not pro-death penalty, but if the Supreme Court can tell me a heinous act like pulling a Polanski is not punishable by execution, then I'm not sure why someone anyone who murders[or at least is accused of murder] should be the non-exceptions.
Speaking of stupid Supreme Court decisions, they reduced what Exxon owes by 75%, even though Exxon is worth ten times more. Of course, why am I not surprised that eminent domain-loving Souter sold Alaska out on this ruling?
Also, Americans still believe a guy who lost Vietnam is more capable of dealing with Iraq than Obama.
lafin gas @ 19:
Some of my black friends actually have from time to time accused me of "talking white". It is so sad and shocking that a true progressive like Nader would reduce himself to Karl Rove level bullshit.
Tequila @ 31:
The court decided that the dollar declined in value 80% so, why give the litigants any more than what they would have received in the first place. Then they went out for drinks and had a good laugh at the expense of all of us.
Mandela, hitherto reluctant to criticise Mbeki's appeasement of the dictator Mugabe, has finally spoken out against Mugabe. Compare that to Mandela'se scathing criticism of the dictator Bush as a global terrorist when he invaded Iraq.
Still, better late than never.
Haha. That's awesome.
Ralph Nader the person reprehensible for Bushco 2000
Fucking hilarious. I trust they carried plenty of Dramamine. Next trip: LA to London using a bicycle.
Meanwhile here in the US, McC*nt carries on with his illegally funded presidential campaign...

If we don't do something about global warming, the terrorists win.
Strategist is apparently an overused term.
ferrofluid (Obama 08) @ 38:
And Nader starts his campaign on prefabricated rumors.
Its amazing how the mighty maverick McC*nt has fallen, from being a war criminal (napalming civilians) and communist appeaser (suppressor of POW and MIA evidence) to being merely a (FEC defined) criminal.
Roll on september and his RNC enforced retirement, or they could just keep the joke going until november, more chuckles for all.
Ron @ 40:
Nader is not what he appears to be.

He is what he is turning out to be and the description is opportunist.

This will make you giggle, McNasty and his staff have a track record of FEC IRS style illegalities regarding funding and name recording.

Peter G @ 52:
peter this is a difficult topic to say the least. i moved to las vegas a few months ago.....right now i'm watching the local news and they just reported two cases where parents killed their own children.i'm not big on the death penalty but child rape......if i had kids and that happened to my children or my friends children i don't think i could ever forgive.. i would probably wish them dead. thanks for the article....personally i won't hold this against obama.....i'm leaving las vegas soon too much crime.
GNA, it's too quiete and I'm tired.
You only have to aim for Washington. Your kayak trip will take enough time for LA to move there because of continental drift.
A moment of nationwide cognitive dissonance produced by Ralph Nader when he pointed out that the emperor to be has NO CLOTHES. Obama is dissappointed and will pray for ralph. Go Ralph ! Tell the truth. It hurts like hell but we need it.
Gonna be tricksey for Mc70% come november what with Nader, Paul and Barr and maybe Huckster all competing for the Repug vote.
At least after McC*nt has been thrashed on the 4th, he can retire to Florida and some peaceful SunCruz cruises and play at being an admiral while waiting for Jack to come out of ClubFed retirement, toot toot.
A red button for McNasty to play with in his retirement after nov 4th, while singing his "bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" ditty
I love how they have you finally climbing out of that Kayak in, of all places, Gasworks Park in Seattle. Not LA? Isn't that where you're going?
Plus, I love how it veers at Kaua`i. I think I might be tempted to stop there and just call this trip off.

this article is likely to vanish soon because of South African censorship, so heres the text.
Soon to be 400 unemployed and prob prosecuted ex cops.
One they went on an illegal type of demonstration,
they blocked the highway,
intimidated motorists by using threat of violence to block, no other method could work.
assaulted protesting motorists with pepper spray,
ignored the lawful paramilitray SAPS riot police.
when they were fired upon by the SAPS with rubber baton rounds they returned fire with real bullets,
serious injuries on both sides.
censorship and theft of photographers lawful photos documenting a crime (the shooting of live bullets at the SAPS),
You know its bad when the police do crap like this and do it to each other,
its either some form of turf war, or 'game over time' period for civilized society and gov.
what's with this stupid ass media. i was just watching cnn and now they are labeling Obama as the Dr. no candidate. Do these dumb asses want 4 more years of republican rule. are they stupid or what??? take off the gloves and hit mcsame with everything. don't wait, do it now. and those who are complicit must not be forgotten.
btw, I've heard the in-paddle movies are crap.
It seems that on Comedy Central that now fully paid up Republican stooge Carlos Mencia did a low hit piece on Obama.
He knows which side is buttered on his corporate toast. Selling out his fellow
minoritiesAmericans for the Republican MSM thirty pieces of silver.I have watched the occasional show of his and he tends to be a promoter of the Apathetic party, very much in the tradition of the Hollywood 'rolling eyes circa 30/40s' variety, and some modern Hollywood.
Carlos Mencia is not empowering or stand up, he degrades peoples and just clowns to the drunk audience, studio and TV land.
cnn and lou dobbs in particular are up in arms over the slaying of a border patrol officer and the fact that mexico has released the purported slayer. There is no question that the government of mexico is crooked and corrupt. that's a reality. however, why wasn't there such outrage over the outing of valerie plame. dobbs rails about how the rest of the border patrol is feeling with regard to allowing the purported slayer his freedom. I ask how the rest of the CIA is feeling knowing that they were compromised once valerie plame was outed. Why wasn't there outrage there and the calling out for justice and incarceration of the doers. Why???
Well now.. Unemployment numbers are up... and have been growing for a while. In california this whole thing started about 6 months ago, that's when I was cut. I haven't been able to find anything since, but my benefits are up, so now I'm no longer unemployed according to the way they track unemployment. At least unemployment will be stabilizing soon... right?
Here it is, the smoking gun that finishes McCain
McNasty assaults a woman in a wheelchair in 1996 during the MIA hearings.
McNasty has a
Self-Pity, Self-Comforting, and the Superego which translates into 'OMFG nobody understands me, they all hate me' then this gets translated into uncontrollable anger and the inevitable lash out at anybody within range.
McCain should have been medicated or hospitalized years ago if this had been diagnosed, certainlly not elected to the Congress and now making a run for the POTUS office.
Hes a out and out loony, not to be trusted with anything more deadly than his
Abramoff donated winningcasino chips. As the GOP and the Republican Congress covered up for Foley and the various others, nasty little habits, so they covered for McVicious.
"Our notion of sovereignty must therefore be conditional, even contractual, rather than absolute. If a state fails to live up to its side of the bargain by sponsoring terrorism, either transferring or using weapons of mass destruction, or conducting genocide, then it forfeits the normal benefits of sovereignty and opens itself up to attack, removal or occupation."
-rICHARD hAASS
BEWARE of the linkage between terrorism and Global Warming ; poverty ; natural catastrophes , is just a pretext for Invasions , expanding U.S. military bases and the ceding of any countries sovereignty .
NEOCONS , the Council on Foreign Relations and others are the masters of opportunism and exploitation , hence why the U.S. military is controlling a large part of economic aid in Africa and the rapid expansion of military bases and Africom in Africa for example .
They'll use any pretext for using U.S. military , food riots , pipeline attacks etc etc. The same with IRAQ , want economic aid , you have to allow U.S. corporations to takeover .
freeman888's post on McCain is frightening, it really hits home about the true nature (and future conduct) of McNasty.

Pence Files Discharge Petition to Force Vote on Broadcaster Freedom Act
"When Freedom Gets an Up or Down Vote in the People's House, Freedom Always Wins"
Contact: Matt Lloyd, 202-226-4379
WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 /Standard Newswire/ -- U.S. Congressman Mike Pence gave the following speech on the House floor this morning announcing the launch of a discharge petition to bring the Broadcaster Freedom Act to the floor of the U.S. House. The Broadcaster Freedom Act would prevent the Federal Communications Commission from implementing the Fairness Doctrine without and act of Congress.
"The time has come to do away with the Fairness Doctrine once and for all.
"While June saw 309 Members of this House vote for an amendment to ban the Fairness Doctrine for the next fiscal year, more must be done to ensure that this archaic regulation of the airwaves of America can never return.
"The Broadcaster Freedom Act would ensure that no future president could regulate the airwaves of America without an act of Congress but it has yet to be scheduled for a vote.
"Moments ago, along with the Republican Leadership and Congressman Greg Walden, I filed a discharge petition on the Broadcaster Freedom Act.
"The American people should know that if 218 Members of Congress sign this petition, we can demand an up-or-down vote on legislation that would keep the Fairness Doctrine from ever coming back.
"To my colleagues in Congress I respectfully say: 'If you oppose the Fairness Doctrine, sign the petition. If you cherish the dynamic national asset that is American talk radio, sign the petition. If you simply believe that broadcast freedom deserves an up or down vote on the floor of the People's House, sign the petition.'
'If 218 Members of Congress will sign the Discharge Petition on H.R. 2905, The Broadcaster Freedom Act will come to the floor and it will pass...because, as we witnessed in yesterday's vote on the Free Flow of Information Act, when freedom gets an up or down vote in the People’s House, freedom always wins.
"I urge all my colleagues, but especially those who supported broadcast freedom earlier this year, to sign the Discharge Petition for H.R. 2905 and bring the Broadcaster Freedom Act to the floor of this Congress."
http://www.standardnewswire.com/news/864501714.html
As of now, not one Democrat has signed this. We are aware that the party leaders, Kerry, Durbin, Feinstein, etc. are anxious to pass the un"Fairness" Doctrine once again.
They resent the fact that they do not have control over every aspect of the media and that attempts by the left to be successful in radio have failed. Freedom of speech is being severely threatened, and it is most important that we contact our representatives and express our opinions on this matter. There is nothing democratic about the desire of the Democrats to do away with a popular medium that allows for public discourse because the views do not conform to the mainstream liberal standards.
Teachers are fuzzy on math.
Excellent work nickleking.
Tomorrows lesson: perspective.

Awww shucks.
I'm still finding it astounding a) how many people can't be convinced that obama is a muslim and b) how many are convinced that being a muslim is a bad thing c) How many think that all muslims are horrible horrible people.
granted this is all from people on a generally very right forum. it still makes me worry about our populace.
That is hilarious! Thanks for posting it

Has anyone bothered to look to another authoritarian society besides Nazi Germany for an allegory of what the US could become under corporate rule? The Nazis and Soviets are sooo cliche, which is why I raise the Tsarist Russia analogy. And by saying Tsarist Russia, I don't mean Imperial Russia, but the period when it was the Tsardom of Muscovy, and the Boyars were actually something. The way I see it, is that the President, if trends hold, might become the Tsar, Blackwater the Oprichinki, the corporations the Boyars (who more than not, selected the Tsar), and the rest of us the serfs. The question is that would this create a hereditary Tsardom with the Bush family as the head of it, or would these Boyar-wannabes create something new?

CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Democratic Party Victory Over DIEBOLD! @ 84:
Uh . . . yeah. You see, there was this terrorist group named Al Queda, you see, and they burned down two of the most famous buildings in the United States and killed thousands of people. The AQs had been originally organized and financed by rich fanatics from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States and organized in conjunction with the CIA to cause trouble for the Soviets in Afghanistan.
All of those organizing groups are very careful about covering their tracks and maintaining deniability when they do something immoral and illegal. However, the AQs had foolishly left their infrastructure, training camps, etc., right out in plain sight in Afghanistan, and so they made a great target for immediate retaliation.
Of course, the US government botched everything else they tried in prosecuting their "Wore on terrah," but taking out the public infrastructure of AQ in Afghanistan made perfect sense.
Berken @ 94:
so within four hours we learn that a CIA-trained operation, with 15/19 operatives from Saudi Arabia and funded by Saudis, is supposed to be holed up in Afghanistan. We also learn that they received their training HERE in the US.

Kudos to Google programmers for (apparently once in a great while) putting in a silly answer for nonsensical questions (driving directions across the ocean).
But, 12,700 km in a sea kayak in just 41 days? That would be over 300 km per day or about 185 miles. Need to do 12mph for 16 hours per day. 5mph seems more like it - barring currents, sea pirates, typhooons, and detours around Texas-sized dead zones of plastic waste.

If anyone is interested, a McCain adviser talking in a YouTube clip about bringing in former Soviet Union & Thai 'masseuses' to the 5 star hotel and casino he is shilling for in the Green Zone. Also says---“we also had a racial problem between the indians, the caucasians from europe and the blacks from africa but somehow casinos have managed to fix that”. Then he adds: “only 20 years ago indians were drunk and homeless and committing crimes, today they are prosperous and wealthy driving mercedes and their kids have gameboys and play stations”. But only “the indians”, but also “have the black people with the sports have managed to advance themselves”.---(ht2 Raed Jarrar)

The best bit is that if you were literal minded and followed instruction one and actually went into Angel Place you would never make it into Bridge St let alone Macquarie St (to get access to Sydney Harbour and thence the Pacific. I will have to a look when I go past this evening to see if any one is sitting in a car in Angel Place with a kayak on the roof trying to get wireless internet access to recheck their directions (it is a bit of a blackhole down there).
I've seen this before: Google used to allow you to put in New York to Paris, only you had to swim across the ocean. Guess a canoe serves you better in the Pacific.
