Hats off to Murray Waas: DOJ Official Who Took the Fifth Fired

Murray Waas' explosive investigative reporting on how more BushCo. cronyism led to a quarter of a billion dollars in payouts to loyal GOPers from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has led to at least one DOJ offical to be fired so far.

I was told that Murray's post called " The Price of Political Favoritism and Cronyism: Lost Lives," was used as source material during the hearing. While the lead cronyist----Robert Flores did testify, his his chief of staff, Michelle Dekonty, informed the committee through counsel that she was invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Well, she got fired.

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform this morning held a hearing on alleged favoritism in the awarding of grants by the Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). While Robert Flores testified at length, his chief of staff, Michelle Dekonty, informed the committee through counsel that she was invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination...read on

She'll get some cushy job at the Heritage Foundation or some other conservative org. / think tank.

They take care of their own.

OF COURSE, WE WILL NEVER SEE THE 250,000,000 DOLLARS AGAIN.

Could you please bring me some ice cubes from Hell, while you're up?

Good, now throw her in the jail on inherent contaemp charges.

FoxNoise will give her a job.

There's a WHOLE lot more of that 'got fired' shit that needs to happen.... All across the board..... It's all well and good that someone is finally getting fired over some of this shit... I'll be more impressed when it's the actual big-shots who called the shots that is ruining this nation instead of the barely knew the name underlings going down.....................JD

cornyism? that doesn't sound so bad ;)

Michele DeKonty took the 5th? That qualifies her for a plum job in a future Republican administration.

Contempt
I hate it when I do that.

Every so often, I see a glimpse of excellent investigative journalism --the type that I grew up with where the "fourth branch" actually does it's work and people are held to account. Good work to Mr. Waas and thank you.

I can't believe that actually went after someone who did the job she was appointed to do. Now let's throw the real crooks in jail before the entire country implodes ala. Enron.

The DOJ is a cess pool. We need a Rotorooter to come on remove all those boosh turds.

A fifth of Clan MacGregor?

Well everybody, after all the hootin-n-hollerin about constitutional rights...we need to be careful.

our fifth amendment privelege against self incrimination is a precious right, and claiming a constitutional right is not a crime.

She probably should lose her job....but not for invoking a constitutional right.

On the other hand, (in the interest of openess) should elected or appointed officials in govt, have a fifth amendment privelege...I think govt employees should...but what about the elected and appointed ones?...

Robospud?

So, only the women have to pay the price and get fired? That's a victory?? Addington basically told congress to suck butt today. What will happen to him, besides nothing???

Did you actually read what I posted? [It was off topic. You said so yourself. 'Off topic' means that it doesn't pertain to the topic of this thread. You are welcome to promote your blog on open threads-Sitemonitor]

FIRED? THATS IT? isnt this cronyism crap that led our country to murder people in IRAQ over a false statement of saddam having WMDS...oh wait, i mean he was supporting Al Queda Inc. ...oh wait, i mean cuz Saddam is a really not nice guy...oh wait...we never did finalize why we went there. ALL BECAUSE of crony's like this who end up getting fired....we need to throw these people in jail, and apply capital punishment for those as a traitor to the country.

Last time I heard of a political party like the republicans that was more loyal to itself than its country was Communists or the Nazis. Impeach is not the answer, JAIL IS.

Conservaconvict Republicans at it again.

God. How can all these affronts and contempt inflicted on the country not explode into massive public outrage?

How can all these affronts and contempt inflicted on the country not explode into massive public outrage?

It's due largely to lack of exposure. The MSM doesn't give any coverage or weight to these issues -- Rupert Murdoch's network certainly isn't going to expose them. Until there are more networks carrying shows like Countdown, enough people simply don't know enough to have it breach the bubble of public consciousness. You'd think the people who voted this administration into office would want heads to roll for such a unilateral and pandemic betrayal of the public trust. Or maybe they're just keeping their mouth shut because if there's one thing conservatives can't do is admit they made a mistake.
