Too many cooks in the kitchen. If too many of us have the post open to fix the links, it confuses everything.

The links should work now.

George Carlin would approve...excellent

Albatross's picture

Interestingly, all of those words can be applied to Obama's flip-flop on FISA.

gempei's picture

The link works with me.

I have to say, that's the first time I've heard the word "cho-cho". Where I am I miss everything.

What I will never figure out was that George also did narration spots for Thomas the Tank Engine. I wonder if he did that on a bet.

"Let's say.....dodge balls".

lol

Well, the world and our nation may be going to hell in a shopping cart with Chimpy sitting in the childseat rah rahing all the way over the cliff and Shutgun Dick actually driving... But at least Colbert is still funny.... At least good comedy can still make me laugh....Better-n-nuttin I spose... BTW, I did not know Cheney keeps his money in a bloodbank... huh, learn something new everyday... Colbert, funny AND educational....That's a pretty good twofer......JD

Carlin was a comedian not a political activist.

Pretty funny. I liked the avoidance word he used for motherfucker. I missa the Carlin.

I'll remember Carlin best for his take on religion and politics. Politics sucks and organized religion suck, surely putting the 2 together would be a clusterf**k. Not the exact quote but that was his theme for awhile. I also like how he would be the early cry for how your govt is bought and paid for by the elitest and that you are owned! He said we would have to deal with it! George Carlin no longer has to deal with it, but he left us a reminder that we would.

paranoia's picture

Obama sold out our civil rights, if he is elected you will have to deal with it. Carlin would say that its not the politician fault for being greedy bastard, but the greedy people who elect them. He then say he doesn't even vote because he is responsible for not electing the greedy bastard.

Steve's picture

Personally, I would've called them chesticles.

Batocchio's picture

Carlin would've laughed at this one. A nice tribute.

It was mediocre, George Carlin was considered one of the top ten comedians ever. Him and Richard Pryer are the shit man. if anyone could do any kind of justice to eulogize this man you would expect Colbert would, but it was just okay cause Carlin was not just a comedian he was a social commentators. What he was saying about the world around him in the last few years was pure genius. Nobody would be able to capture what George was all about and how important he was to the world.

Now it's "The Seven Words You Can't Put On Your Tombstone"

TerroristFistJab's picture

'A' for effort, and I appreciate Colbert doing it, but I'd hoped Carlin would be remembered for more than the 'seven words,' especially by someone as knowing as Colbert.

I LOVE Colbert...but this is really reminicent of Roseann Rosadanna's "Nevermind" commentary on SNL. Let's give Gilda Radner a little pat on the back for this one.

Carlin was the best. He always told the truth.

ahh that would be Emily Litella's closing. I miss Gilda too.

i think some of you missed what he was doing, it WAS about Carlin being remembered beyond the 7 dirty words. He said the words he should have been remembered by: Anti-authoritative, speaking truth to power (something like that i dont remember i watched it earlier, but I got it) :D

. . . I'd hoped Carlin would be remembered for more than the 'seven words,' especially by someone as knowing as Colbert.

Colbert was not eulogizing George Carlin, he was criticizing the newscritter's eulogies of Carlin, who did uniformly see The Seven Deadly Words as the man's distinguishing mark.

In his TV persona, Stephen Colbert watched, discovered the truthiness of their remarks, and as it agreed with his character’s ideology, did his own eulogy, describing why Carlin’s supposed work deserves praise.

Once corrected, and told that George Carlin was not a censor, Stephen called Carlin a bleeped 'father.'

Classic Colbert!

JC's picture

I think its somewhat poetic that out of all the people praising George almost as if its a job (For many newscasters its is). That Stephen Colbert who represents talking about news and real events in the only few ways possible in his brutally honest and (deliciously) infamously satiric manner is the one who is also praising George who also spat back at the irony about not being able to say the 'forbidden' words.

And both are commedians and yet speak more truth than 'reality' thats broadcasted to us on things like faux news.

RIP Carlin, your legacy goes much further than any of can trully appreciate in todays world.

I came to live and work in the US in 1989. I became a citizen in Feb 89. In the 19 plus years since I have never heard a more on point, brilliant and tears in eyes hilarious comedian than Carlin. The man was a genius and without him comedy would not even approach the heights it has today, without it and the foundation Carlin liad we would be in an even bigger mess

Truly, one of the best tributes to Carlin I've seen

One of the problems I've had with some of the Carlin tributes, were people looking up to heaven, or saying George is in heaven now, or Say hello to Richard for me.

Carlin was an Atheist, and Commentators and Bloggers alike should respect that aspect of his life.

Gearge Carlin was the One of the Best of the Social Comics, and like Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and Bill Hicks, his truth will be missed.

Obama has definitely f'ed up the telecom vote thing much to my dissatisfaction. He took the wrong position on this one but they would have had enough votes without him anyway.

Unlike some people who think the sun shines out of his every orifice, I'm voting for Obama but I recognize that he's far from perfect. However since the only other option is McCain, Obama definitely shines in comparison.

It's like here in Ohio our choices for governor were Ted Strickland or Ken Blackwell. It was bad enough having our own "Katherine Harris" so to speak here in Ohio as Secretary of of State. Having him as governor would have REALLY been farked.

So Strickland is governor only partly because he earned it, but mostly because the alternative was such a god awful choice.

Same thing with Obama. McCain is a god awful choice for president. And the only other option is Obama. Much the better choice in every respect for anyone not blinded by the color of his skin for good or bad reasons.

George Carlin was the One of the Best of the Social Comics,

I'm going to correct this every time I see it: He wasn't "one of the best". He was THE best. End of.
