Bloggingheads: Jane Hamsher vs. Bob Barr--Who's The Worst President?
By Nicole Belle Saturday Jun 28, 2008 11:00am
Well, I know who Jane would pick...but in another case of Strange Bedfellows, Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr can't find much to argue with:
[What] George W. Bush has done to the fabric of our constitutional government, to Separation of Powers, to a government of limited powers, to destroy the notion that we are a nation of laws, not of men, is something that is absolutely unforgiveable, irresponsible and terribly, terribly destructive of our notion of government. President Clinton, certainly had my problems with him, but what he did in terms of perjury and obstruction was bad, but it was not destructive of the very systemic foundations of our country.

Love the quote from sideshow Bob. BB'08! Shaving McCain's gravy!
My moneys on Barr getting more voted then mcidiot.
Barr is a one-trick pony. Good on the civil liberties piece, that's all.
I like the things Bob Barr says, but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.
You know how you can just tell people by their faces sometimes? This guy's a sneaky
f*ck.
If the Hillary ladies won't/can't vote for Obama, maybe they could jump over and vote for Barr.
When did he get to 'there's not a dime's worth of difference' between the other candidates?
Then, of course, there is Pelosi and the Democrats who took impeachment "off the table". Either they're with Bush, or they're against Bush, and with the telecom immunity for violating the constitution, it's quite clear that the politicians who support the constitution are in the minority. And they don't seem to have a problem about Bush lying about a national security threat to get this nation into a war which has yielded over 4000 American fatalities.
Yep, the Dems are satisfied with their position of being the lesser of the two evils.
From impeaching Clinton to the ACLU was a bizarre transition for Barr. When a creep like Barr is one of the last pols to stand between us and supressive corporatism you know we have to be in trouble. Maybe Obama should look to Barr on FISA and other unconstitutional issues. Yup, can't believe it myself.
pissed off patricia @ 5:
Couldn't agree with you more. Now if we can just get the word out to those who jump from Hill to Mcsame.
Gotta give credit where credit is due. Barr did say his votes for the Iraq invasion and the Patriot Act were wrong. No way in hell that I would vote for him but this day and age when anyone comes out and admits they screwed up, I admire their admission.
stokker @ 4:
A phrase obtains about Barr: "Even a broken clock is right twice a day."
Well, at least Barr's positions are shifting in the right direction, unlike Obama's.
♠Bangkok Bob♥ @ 9:
By doing this they could save face and at the same time not hurt Hillary's party. I should think that would appeal to them.
Jim @ 12:
Like this one?
LOL! Can you say "Quixotic"? I thought you could.
Why no, Bobby. I was referring to FISA. Couldn't you guess?
Jim @ 15:
LOL! Like I said, he's a one-trick pony.
Perjury has to be proven not alleged.
And the senate cleared Bubba.
So what Barr is doing is slander.
A later court fined Bubba, but they made it clear it was for contempt of court, and dragging out the process, not perjury.
She still smokes??
i hope barr gets some media coverage i suspect he won't
ron paul didn't get much media attention...they say because they're not serious candidates
i think it's because they expose the NEOCONS philosophy
todays republican administration is extreme and don't
adhere to the constitution....currently the republican
party has a real identity problem
stokker @ 4:
You mean like the time he abused the power of the office of special prosecutor to illegally conspire with Linda Tripp and her lawyer to entrap Bill Clinton in front of the grand jury with a line of questioning completely outside the scope of his investigation? Aside from that, I'm sure he's a completely upright, honest, non-partisan individual with only the best interests of the nation at heart.
It seems to me that hurting the party that dared spurn Hillary Clinton is much more interesting to the more... fervent Clinton supporters. To put it in more repugnant terms... though completely gender-neutral, I am sadly obligated to make explicitly clear or else I'll be accused of sexism*... I can get back at someone much more effectively by sleeping with their worst enemy (McCain) and rubbing it in their face, than I can by sleeping with a complete stranger (Bob Barr) and rubbing it in their face.
*I'm not sexist. I'm misanthropic. Huge difference.
Barr led the drive to impeach Clinton over lying about a blow job right? Yet, he states Bush is worse and you did not hear a fucking peep out of the Libertarian while Bush was doing it, much less bringing up the topic or actually backing impeachment for Bush. Two faced weasel.
Barr voted for the PATRIOT Act (I & II). When did he get religion?
I tend not to mind an independent thinking conservative like Bob Barr or Pat Buchanan so much. It's the guys who walk in lock-step with whatever Bushco talking point is in force at the moment that I can't stand. Say what you will about Bob Barr -- at least he's consistent on rule of law, whether it's FISA or lying about getting an oral favor from a woman who is not your wife.
Is Barr looking into a blast furnace?
Or the Gates of Hell?
Bob Barr is looking a lot like a shorter, wider version of Max von Sydow in Three Days of The Condor.
You mean Hillary ladies AND gentlemen . . .there are plenty of Hillary Men who will never vote for Obama and will definitely vote for McCain.
.
Q U E S T I O N:
Will Barr Prosecute?
.
Wo where was Barr to speak out against these attrocoties when they were being committed? where was he when there was still time to stop this nonsense called the Bush administration? Fuck Bob Barr with Bill Clinton's Dick!
Dahgrostab'ph-r-i @ 29:
LOL! exactamundo.
flamethrower @ 8:
What the hell is a "pol". Can someone clear this up for me?
TIA
Sitemonitor: pol = politico
If Barr can raise a lot of money and attention, he'll help deliver the White House to Obama.
I still can't believe Clinton was impeached for lying about a BJ and Bush and Cheney can't get impeached for lying about the pretext for this bankrupting, murderous, maiming preemptive war, the outing of an undercover CIA agent, torture, global warming, wiretapping Americans, etc., etc., ad infinitum. What do they have on Pelosi that she said impeachment is off the table? But of course, the Dems don't have enough votes in Congress ...
I have said it before and I will do so again here. Libertarians are a party that Obama should be courting. Crushing the FISA bill, for example, could yield him significant gains with Ron Paul supports.
Anais @ 33:
Government of the corporations, by the corporations, for the corporations… and their buddies.
Pelosi and Bush are buddies.
I'll say something different when something different happens.
Sorry... I was responding to this post.^
pissed off patricia @ 5:
isn't the 'hillary ladies' group started and run by a man?
karl @ 19:
the media wants you to choose between McC*nt and
ObamaMcC*nt via DIEBOLD so they can try to legitimize it.Fucking Bob Barr is finally coming around. Dumb ass.
Bloggingheads: Jane Hamsher vs. Bob Barr–Who’s The Worst President?
Garfield
He keeps stealing my lasagna.
Ok, I'll say it:
Wowzers, I had no idea Jane Hamsher was so cute.
Ok, back to NOT acting like a drooling teenager.
:)
That cigar crack...this guy really has it bad for bill. he just can't quit him.
Clinton lies under oath, granted. Bush and Cheney lied about everything and refused to go under oath. There has never been an administration more destructive to our way of life as the one the rethuglicans put forward for the past eight years. Nixon would even look like a choir boy compared to what the GOP has done in the past eight years.
pissed off patricia @ 5:
Lol... Barr tried to get her husband impeached, and now they will vote for him? The irony would be amazing.
McCain cant quit Joe Lieberman.
The fact that there was a progression from Nixon to Reagan to Bush in relation to their view of presidential power, and considering that there are people like Cheney and Rumsfeld out there, I fear for the future of the Constitution. It seems like there is the progression where Republican candidates will have to out-do each other on being "Republican", being like Reagan, being like Bush. When a Democrat is in office, Republicans in Congress take advantage of the Constitution in order to handicap the Executive Branch. But when a Republican is in the White House, it's "anything goes", no oversight, no accountability.
What about Nixon, and what Barr thinks of him?
