Blue America launches FISA Whip count call tool: Let them know!
By John Amato Tuesday Jul 01, 2008 12:50pm
You spoke and we listened. You donated intensely and we are taking action. We've run ads and now we're hitting the phones. Blue America has just launched an interactive tool that will allow you to call your Senator and demand accountability on FISA.
Christy has more:
Blue America is launching a call tool today to help you get in touch with Senators regarding the FISA bill. We're trying to make it as easy as possible for everyone to talk with their Senators about the importance of standing up for the constitution, the rule of law -- and standing against telecom immunity.
We have been working hard to put together some tools to make your voice heard -- and there is more to come today.
This first tool allows you to directly contact Senators to tell them to stand up for the rule of law and vote in favor of the Dodd-Feingold-Leahy amendment. (That's S.A.5064 to H.R. 6304 which will come up for a vote on July 8th, 2008.) Not only will this tool help you phone your Senators -- including connecting your call -- but it also gives us the ability to track positions on FISA given your input on what you ascertain during your conversations...read on
Digby and Howie also are part of the Blue America family and will have similar posts up soon. Glenn Greenwald has been a big part of this FISA fight also....We will not back down. Please make your voice heard. We're all taking part in the process...Thanks for the help.
Here's Howie's post...

Thanks for passing this along.
I just emailed Senator Webb.
I so desire contact with Senators/Congresspersons of a highly evolved intellectual mein. My lust for life, real hopes for a blue america, and a zest for creating chaos is thwarted by lack of raw material and a big question mark looming daddy-bear like and my T.V. eye has been blackened – it’s the unwatchable stuff of the many locust dreams in my head.
A hotter than lava snot (some say I have an exaggerated opinion of myself) troublemaker coughing up the baby teeth of my frustrations. That, and getting dry-gulched by some spazz, whether in middle manglement or hallowed halss of D.C., redolent of the foul B.O. of Satan's favorite gutter worm. You’ll always sense me when I'm nearby - a frost wind of steel stilettos hammered Christ-like into your spine. Insane merry-go-round nausea spinning, spewing forth and everything's a mess, a side of spit-up included but not asked for, and you still got to pay the bill. Every possession you ever had – wrecked, stomped on - lying at your feet, and all you can think is how bad you want it, how your brain screams louder than you can ever take it, looking for that kiss.
Junk mailed advertisements that tell you God is dead piled high on the TV that fucks up on a regular basis. Yes, the incessant fucking TV and it's vacuum blather. Burping. Unclear. A cheese-dick nun advertising 20 brands of diseased cow lemon shit in 60 different languages. A nicely coifed retard does the funky chicken for the hard of hearing. Subliminal criminals, phoney businessmen punks in thick rimmed glasses lifting the ever topped highball glass and toasting better absorption, bad comedians, laughing colonic bags aping the Hallelujah chorus - the forgotten version - out of key (slightly), just enough to annoy you.
My dream essence for all america is cheap perfume on rotting Madonna market researched maggots! Dead but popular maggots. My dream taste is a wound re-opening to no surprise, the priest’s confessional eyes flowing out, wriggling little things, gelatinous, stillborn and screaming into the broken mike - out of key (slightly), just enough to annoy you. My dream delight is a plunging elevator full of screaming Hooter’s waitresses, a millisecond before it hits the cellar, a cellar with mustard and rats. Old – ancient in fact - lost teeth, abortions, garbage, so pungent it hums with hidden life - out of key (slightly), just enough to annoy you.
My dream, america, is your dream, deep within you, hidden, waiting to get out.
You spoke and
we listened.who knows who was listening.Pointless. Pointless stupidity. As if playing pretend could put a stop to the fascist treason against us. Amazing.
Not giving the telecoms immunity is great, but when are we going to demand action against the people who told the telecoms they could break the law in the first place? Going after the telcos seems lame if the lawbreakers in the government go unpunished. Or is that the whole reason for caving on immunity? If they don't then they have no excuse for not going after the administration? And that's off the table I suppose...
I have called my senator - Jay Rockefeller - twice now and recieved one written response but, hell, he's the one who WANTS the telecoms to get immunity. I wonder if Obama was serious when he said that when he becomes president he will prosecute those that broke our laws.
Seems like with all the hoopla about the 2nd Ammendment they forgot about MY personal favorite....the 4th!
Thanks, John
Let's see who stands up and who just hopes for for a good bill.
With Obama's stance on FISA and now faith based ripping off tax dollars, it's looking like I'm going to sit this election out. I'm sick of all of these spineless twits.
Glen Greenwald is nothing short of awesome.
Accountability is the change we have been looking for. Obama isn't going to garner any votes by pandering to the right.
Stew Mulligan @ 7:
Yes I have written him a number of times on accountability. All I get back is a letter that more or less says he knows more than I do and he's glad I wrote.
This from one of the men who was spreading the crap about saddam and WMD's. I don't think he read the intelligence reports then and I don't think he knows what's going on with FISA.
And with his vote on Iraq, it's clear he knows LESS than I do.
If the telecoms are granted immunity wouldn't it be from a 'civil' lawsuit, and that they could still be tried in a criminal court, or did I misread the bill ?

Ruthless People @ 14:
....fair and balanced?
I just read DiFink's June 25 auto response and note the same equivocating and weasel words that Obama stated: Gee it’s not perfect but better than before; trust us, we are keeping watch, or you just don’t know how dangerous the world is and how many terrorists we’ve nabbed because of illegal wiretap’s and we need to infringe on your Constitutional freedom to keep you free. I feel better knowing DiFink is so strong for our freedoms!
That Foxaganda should be posted on the main page of Crooks and Liars!
That was pretty interesting of how low they went, it's immature reporting at best.
I have strong reservation about voting for Obama as time goes by. His smooth talking is going to be the negative in his campaign or it'll be flip flopping. It will also diminish McCain issue of flip flopping. By all intent Obama will be perceive to pandering to the left just to get the nomination, and to pander to the corporation to get the money. The changes we need were independent from corporate ties, and Barack has in a single week destroyed that persona, and now its back to voting for the lessor of 2 evil. Although I would vote entirely different.
Uhh.. not to piss in anybody's oatmeal here but there's already an interactive tool that allows you to phone your Congressman and tell them you want them to vote against telecomm immunity.
It's called a freaking PHONE.
it doesn't need any bells and whistles or web pages. It just needs people to pick up the damned thing, press a few buttons and make the call. I've called, faxed and email Mikulski and Cardin every time there's been a FISA bill and you know what? They don't give a flying fuck about it. They're not listening. Probably because She's received over $18,000 in
bribescontributions from Telephone Utilities, Telecom Services & Equipment and Computer/Internet providers and Cardin's gotten some too.You want to make a difference? Get your butts on a bus, drive out to your Congressman's house and protest out there. Or go down to DC and protest in front of the Capitol. This "Well I emailed my Congressman"/"I signed a petition" Bs isn't going to do anything.
Indiana Senator Evan Bayh is a sellout to the highest corporate bidder. He LOVES telcom immunity, and their money. He's also in Big Pharma's back pocket.
Lugar will tow the Republican Party line as well.
i call mary landrieu everyday and remind her why we hired her. note: sprint seems to have removed "the daily show" and "colbert report" from the "sprint TV" mobile feed of comedy central
AMAZING, A law to make sure that a law is followed, that is a new one, making existing law "irrelevent" unless it is backed up by "another law" that absolutely says to follow the first law. What about that new law - backing up the first same law, does that new law need to be backed up by another back up law? - to make sure that the backup law is also followed? ..........I am getting dizzy, it is anarchy at its finest........
Creating A Law - To Follow The LAW ----- WOW!!!!!!
We now need a law to follow the law! I guess that means that people can break the law until another law backing up the first one is put into place. How do we know what the law is by these standards? We are screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I am glad to know that our existing laws are so secure...... so If I want to break the law, I can just shout "Do-over" and it will all be excused. How about abiding by the rules and being accountable.
What a bunch of slippery snakes.........
Hah!
My senators are John McCaine and John Kyle.
I won't waste the bandwidth.
The critisism of some who believe that the immunity only pertains to Civil law suits:
If the Tel com companies are going to be protected and immune from civil law suits, lets face it, they are off scott free. Like the people in charge are actually going to go after them “criminally” the very people who are passing this legislation to make sure they are immune……..from civil law suits, I will not hold my breath, come on guys - have we not learned that the people in charge are in deriliction of duty for holding anyone accountable for anything lately. That is why we are having this conversation in the first place, DUH! Oh yeah the tel com companies are in big trouble now, being held accountable by the very people who are giving them Immunity from Civil liabilities = HELLOOOOOOO! WAKE UP!!!!! Yeah they are going to hold them to the fire, I can smell their sneakers burning now……….Those sneaker wearing sneaky spies........Spying on their own neighbors = US citizens -how dare they! I find it facsinating how some people think they are doing such fine with their research and are reading the fine print of this bill and think that the loopholes are going to be used to somehow bring justice to us, the only loopholes being used right now are the ones that make sure our gas prices are deregulated (enron loophole) to make sure gas price stay quadroopled so they can screw us at the pump. All the while blaming it on a supply problem that does not exist. Banks have also been deregulated so you loose your homes, a million more next month. We are loosing our shirts and our homes right now and some are still believing that someone somewhere is acutally going to be held accountable. AMAZING!

A personal comment to all you negative nillies such as Frederic L, Rice-has the word "pussy" ever been used in your presence?
Fredric L. Rice @ 5:
You with THAT attitude are shameful! You know whats right & wrong yet all you want to do is bitch. You lay on your back and spread your legs so willingly and complain as they are raping you...Oh I am the helpless victim...
I already called Obama, Hoyer, Peilso, and Reid offices and told them not to pass the FISA bill with immunity for the telecom. I did my part. I didn't call my Senator because he is a republican and we know they don't listen to us. I have called their office before on other issues. Honestly I don't think any of them care what we think.
Fredric L. Rice @ 5:
Well, I'm sorry they beat you, but I'm still standing.
yeah, yeah, yeah.
