Big Bad John
By Bill W. Wednesday Jul 02, 2008 6:00pm
No, this isn't a post about the new campaign ad by that name that's made Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) a "national laughing-stock." It's about the other 'Big Bad John' in the Senate that actually once blew up and shouted "F--- you" at 'Big Bad John' Cornyn during a senate meeting. This time it's Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) recalling a two decade old incident when John McCain supposedly lost his temper with an associate of Nicaragua's current President while on a diplomatic mission:
"McCain was down at the end of the table and we were talking to the head of the guerrilla group here at this end of the table, and I don't know what attracted my attention," Cochran said. "But I saw some kind of quick movement at the bottom of the table and I looked down there and John had reached over and grabbed this guy by the shirt collar and had snatched him up like he was throwing him up out of the chair to tell him what he thought about him or whatever. I don't know what he was telling him but I thought, good grief everybody around here has got guns and we were there on a diplomatic mission. I don't know what had happened to provoke John, but he obviously got mad at the guy and he just reached over there and snatched him."
As McClatchy also notes, Cochran has been blunt in the past about what he thinks of McCain's temper:
"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran told the Globe. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."
Although the McCain campaign denies Cochran's claim, this is just the latest of countless reports about John McCain's reckless and explosive temper, only this time he didn't blow up at his wife (or joke about beating her up, but that's not really an anger issue by itself. It's a character issue made worse by his anger issues), instigate another fist fight with a colleague, or get testy with the media (well, it turns out he did do that last one again). This time he was losing it getting tough with bad guys with guns.
Although McCain's anger problems have been well documented and Cochran's been on record as critical of McCain's temperament, color me at least a tad leery to believe this new decades-old recollection of his toughness with a South American "leftist" "guerrilla" group that just happened to coincide with McCain's trip to Columbia - a trip which also conveniently coincided with the rescue of 15 hostages, including 3 U.S. citizens and former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt from the FARC, another South American "left-wing" "guerrilla" group. Next thing you know someone will be claiming McCain's visit had something to do with that. Oh wait, it seems Fox News already has. Go figure.

Not hard to imagine the Bush Admin folks coordinating with the Columbian hostage rescue group, tipping the McCain folks that a visit to Columbia 'around' a certain date might be a good idea. Hmm ....
Why do you think we call them 'cons? They hide the truth. What you see is not what you get.
What you get are sociopaths and psychopaths.
You have to be a con to be a member of the 'con party.
There is no doubt in my mind that Great-Grampa McSane is one twisted ****.
This country does need some tough-love but that shouldn't be confused with crazy-maniacal-whacked-out-love.
Wow, he's looking a little green around the gills. Must be something his wife did.
Off Topic: Rachel Maddow just took Scarburro to the woodshed.LOL. She's beating the holy livin shit out of him verbally.
Maybe this will be a nice weekend after all.
mudshark @ 5:
On Countdown or some other show? Seeing Joe get smacked might go very well with beer and pretzels.
I don't really see much difference between this blog alleging that "McCain joked about beating his wife" (he didn't) and the wingnut blogs, which unfortunately includes all the cable and network news channels and print media, alleging that Wesley Clark "attacked McCain's military service" (he didn't).
Other than scale, that is.
In both instances it's a distortion of what was said.
I mean, really. There's plenty of reasons to vote against this year's version of McCain without sinking to the GOP's level.
That is absolutely horrifying!
I going to hide under the bed.
Me SMASH!!!
I figure this is just Cochran just BSing and making the whole thing up. Since the Sandinistas first overthrew the dictatorship and brought Democracy to Nicaragua, I've followed them pretty closely. It would have been newsworthy, at least in Latin America. If such an event had ever occurred, the Sandinistas would have raised a fuss over such an insult. More likely, is that Cornyn is just trying to bolster McCain's image as a tough guy.
better get some metamucil down johnny look alittle green
That green face works well with his yellow teeth. McC*nt needs to soak those dentures in some cleanser.
The Truth Hurts @ 12:
Bleach would be better.
Just immagine McCain grabbing Putin or Medvedev by his shirt collar !!!.
That will not just make big headlines...it will make a big war.
now put the green mccain against of the green background.....
It's creepy to see Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham hand-holding John McCain everywhere he goes.
It makes it appear that McCain is so feeble he needs these two assistants helping him at all times. Isn't this just plain weird?
A Loss Leader We Can Bereave In.
mccain also behaved similarly badly with a german diplomat, at least several years ago. i had read a report of it in one of these "left/progressive" blogs several months ago but can't find anything on it now by googling.
anybody else remember it, able to come up with it?
Oh, and another flaw in the story is that the Sandinistas overthrew the Samoza regime in 1979, they were no longer a guerrilla organization by then, but the legitimate ruling party in the government of Nicaragua until they peacefully passed power in free elections in 1990, two years before they had originally promised to do so.
When we see all the flags this weekend, let's remember that there are still coffins draped with flags returning from the illegal war in Iraq. Let the fireworks remind us that our military is still facing real gun fire and not displays created for viewers to go "ooo and ah".
We must also remember who wants to keep our troops fighting in this illegal war and who was absent from voting for the Webb Veterans' bill.
If you have the time, listen to this remarkable song.

How about that blue toilet water that cleans stains real good
He is permanently pissed off and he hates poor folks. Sounds like the perfect candidate for those who vote against their own self-interest.
You won't like him when he's angry.
Cornyn? I thought it was Craig and Vitter who were the Big Bad Johns.
I thought the trip was kind of sudden - and now I add 'staged' to my suspicion.
They talked about this at an MSNBC round table.
Tucker Carlson got him self a big throbbing boner thinking about McCain throttling this little weasel commie. He didn't think Big John went far enough, wishing he had smashed his face into the table etc..He figures Americans like their Presidents to kick ass and take names.
Certainly right wing douche bags like Tucky do...
You know that picture,in whatever coulor, always makes me think that McCain needs a lot more fiber in his diet.
At least he's making a modicum of effort to control his temper, at least on camera.
Last night on ABC World News, a reporter asked him about Gen. Wesley Clark's comment that riding in a fighter and getting shot down did not qualify him to be President. He made a lame defense deflecting the question. Then the reporter asked "How does the POW experience help you be qualified to be President?" He looked a lot like the above picture, except he was red instead of green. I actually thought his head was going to explode.
They cut away to the reporter and after an unknown length of time while the reporter said he was "composing" himself, he sputtered that he didn't love his country until he was separated from it (the antidote to attacks on Michelle Obama's comment.)
Apart from hearsay, there is adequate documentation of McSame's temper.

The more I read about McCain, the more I see a link between his return from Viet-Nam last century and PTSD. And it never was taken care of. It shows how thin the repukebecan have in their field
fp
Just another coinky-dink that could be interpreted to show what a man's man McSame is. By the way, Faux News, McSame had nothing to do with the rescue of Betancourt and the other hostages.
Tough guy McCain, went to Colombia, grabbed some poor terrorist by the shirt collar and shook him then threatened he would sic his 'trollop' c**t on him with a $750k MC payment, then told them all to go f**k themselves.
On the way home a reporter asked him: "In what ways did your experience in Vietnam prepare you for the presidency?" He tuned away looking very annoyed saying "Oh Please ---- I -- I --- I --- Please"
I suppose he didn't know the answer either, but I also assume that should that question be asked again, he will have been told what to say.

Unfit for office is getting traction. My personal touchstone on insanely republican voters is wavering and admitting serious doubts to McCains mental fitness. This person lives in southern Virginia and is all the things you hate about goopers. But he is honest and sees what I see in his demeanor and combined with accurate anecdotal evidence, says he cannot vote for Krusty. Before you w00t for a vote in Va, he's voting for Barr.
Breaking News:McCain Vows To Replace Secret Service With His Own Bare Fist
Fox Newz (Caution: may contain news-like substance): "So there really might be a connection between the high-level visit of the former prisoner of war, John McCain himself, and the release now of three American prisoners here..."
This is what passes for "journalism" in Murdoch's America.
A chill down everyone'ws back

Just keep hammering THE TRUTH HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!{Edited, SiteMonitor}
prin @ 36, that was great. The Onion is brilliant ... I especially liked the Bush Tours America To Survey Damage Caused by His Disastrous Presidency bit, too.
Regarding that photo of McCain, where did it come from and why is he snarling? It's a real photo, right? Just wondering if anyone knows.
CoIntelPro for Pronktastic Democratic Party Victory Over SCLM and DIEBOLD! @ 39:

A few things so obvious they should not need to be said, but clearly, some people need everything spelled out for them.
1) We are not a news organization, and we've never pretended to be. Fox News claims/pretends to be one.
2) Only someone without the ability to think for themselves would believe we're suggesting that McCain has green skin in real life. Whereas, FOX News did purposefully distort those pictures and try to pass them off as real.
3) False equivalencies are the modus operandi of those who have no other defense.
Enjoy your unrighteous indignation.
Eeeeew is it already Halloween?
The Unjolly Green Giant.
No,Halloween is Cindy McCain time of year. She rides on her broom, with her flying monkey friends, right behind her.
mccain can't comb his hair but he can pick up leftists from their chairs with a collar grab. that is as unlikely as mccain, coincidently, being in columbia when the hostages were freed.
Don't you worry, Dirty Harry Mc Lame will make those punk terrorists day. He'll just whip out that .44 and start bwasting, who has the time or patience for that weak ass peacemaking anyway. Then they won't be feeling so lucky. And neither will our country.
Where has reason gone ? Has anyone bothered to look at McCain's arms ? The man is a Tyranosaurus Rex. What Cochran describes is a physical impossibility ! These underdeveloped arms of Senator McCain's come from one arm being broken when he was shot down over Vietnam, and the other broken during interrogation. Neither, of course, received proper medical attention at the Hanoi Hilton.
The new McCain 3.0 came out today. Apparently the violent subroutine has been removed but they say it's still buggy as hell but slightly improved from version 2.0. The free trade program has been enhanced, the support for the G.I. bill has been added and and the G.O.P. has encased the upgrade into yet another entirely different package. Unfortunately, handing him a salt shaker will still make him go haywire but they're working that enhancement and may be introduced by version 6 or 7. They're also working on removing the softballs from each side of his mouth - may even have them removed when 3.0 comes out. No need to rush out and buy it. No one else is.
What do you want to bet Bush paid the rebels so that John McCain would have a photo opportunity after all do you think the GOP would risk all the hostages ending up dead in a rescue attempt while John McCain was singing the Government of Columbia's praises?
Nicole Belle @ 42:
Nicole I trust C @ L with the news more than I trust Fox, I would not cite Fox as an authority on a college paper on anything. Just what is C @ L batting average with the truth compared to Fox News?
Things Come Undone @ 50:
The whole thing was probably staged by this administration from the beginning. The next big one is coming in October when the chimp yells through the intercom for Ken Lay to retrieve Bin Laden from the deep freeze and put him on the elevator and push the button..
If this was a blow job, or a AWOL font someone would be investigating the hell out of it.
Someone else besides Cochran was at that meeting, someone should get those people (maybe even the victim of the assault) on the record.
Is/Are C&L taking cues from Fox News and Photoshop?
[No-Sitemonitor]
This just makes me look forward all the more to the debates. McCain's handlers must be just a tad nervous, wondering if he'll lose his rag in front of a camera and several million voters/viewers. Me, I hoping for it...
