Woo Hoo. Go Obama. November 4th.

Please cover the Obama abortion comments! It's a big deal.

Jan Crawford Greenburg says it well:

In a recent interview, Obama appears to back away from his long-stated positions on abortion (and a proposed federal abortion rights law he had co-sponsored), repudiate 35 years of accepted Supreme Court rulings on the issue and embrace a view on abortion restrictions that has been expressed on the Court only by Justices Thomas and Scalia.
[...]
'I have repeatedly said that I think it's entirely appropriate for states to restrict or even prohibit late-term abortions as long as there is a strict, well-defined exception for the health of the mother. Now, I don't think that 'mental distress' qualifies as the health of the mother," Obama said. "I think it has to be a serious physical issue that arises in pregnancy, where there are real, significant problems to the mother carrying that child to term. Otherwise, as long as there is such a medical exception in place, I think we can prohibit late-term abortions."

Wow.

This has been a central battleground issue in the Supreme Court going back 35 years, to Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, when the Court ruled a woman had a constitutional right to abortion. The decisions said state's can ban all abortions after the fetus is viable -- but that any restrictions must include exceptions to protect a woman's physical and emotional health.
[...]
In 1973, when the Court issued Roe and Doe — on the same day — it sided with the abortion rights groups and said states could not interfere with a doctor's medical judgment on whether an abortion was necessary.

"[M]edical judgment may be exercised in the light of all factors--physical, emotional , psychological, familial, and the woman's age--relevant to the well- being of the patient," said the Supreme Court in Doe, which was a companion case to Roe. "All these factors may relate to health . This allows the attending physician the room he needs to make his best medical judgment."

Obama's comments that he does not support mental health exceptions in so-called post-viability abortions (after 22 weeks) is squarely at odds with that holding, which remains the law of the land today.

The list is longer than my arm now and half way down my leg.

Here we are! MSM is doing what it always does! Talk about bull-shit ,when Americans are in need! What about the floods? Or Health-care? The wars? It seems nobody gives a shit! I'm as patriotic as the next man(woman)! I want to talk to talk about things I CARE ABOUT! This is crap!

I don't know if it's been posted here but it seems Jesse Helms has passed away. I assume that the usual restraint will be shown. I may have some choice comments to make at a later date.

This is the problem. Democrats believe in womens rights. But to the religoius right that means no rights! Repugs do not see gray, they see black and white. You could be a young runaway who was raped, and yet they will blame the girl! If you are white, produce children! Like the right, we must provide white kids! That way we can stop imagration! We'll just have our kids working the fields! No insurance? No problem! You can die, and nobody will care! Welcome to Conservatism!

Question about Obama's policies. Where are the stories coming from? Have you checked out his policies before and now?

It seems that there is a lot of misinformation being thrown about. Just sayin'.

I'm not one to decide what a woman should do with her body but, where did he say that he would. I'm against abortion but it's not my decision to make. I'm not against contraception or any type of birth control in the early stages.

Democrat Barack Obama opened the door Thursday to refining his plan to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq in 16 months based on what he hears from military commanders during his upcoming trip there.

UPDATE: Viacom v Google/YouTube - 'Anonymize the logs'

Recall:
U.S. District Judge Louis Stanton ordered Google to provide Viacom with their:

“Logging” database [which] contains, for each instance a video is watched, the unique “login ID” of the user who watched it, the time when the user started to watch the video, the internet protocol address other devices connected to the internet use to identify the user’s computer (“IP address”), and the identifier for the video.

The reason given was:

They need the data to compare the attractiveness of allegedly infringing videos with that of non-infringing videos. A markedly higher proportion of infringing-video watching may bear on plaintiffs’ vicarious liability claim, and defendants’ substantial non-infringing use defense.

From:
Mercury News (McClatchy) - YouTube order: Does it threaten your privacy?
http://www.mercurynews.com/peninsula/ci_9785519

'Anonymize the logs'

.. Google attorney Catherine Lacavera expressed worry over privacy protection.

"We are disappointed the court granted Viacom's overreaching demand for viewing history," she said in a statement Thursday. "We will ask Viacom to respect users' privacy and allow us to anonymize the logs before producing them under the court's order."

Viacom's general counsel, Michael Fricklas, said the request to keep the information anonymous was under consideration.
..

Maddow was right, Obama has hardly changed his positions as much as everyone in the media reports. Everyone forgets that when Obama ran his campaign on his issues, everyone was still obsessed with Hillary and claimed that he wasn't strong enough to win the Presidential election. He actually did switch at that time and started trying to match her on the far left. Now that she's out of the way, he's just returning to his original positions. During the primary, no one wanted to report his standing on each position trying to compare him to Hillary and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Now that he's running on his own platform, now they're comparing him to himself and is giving McCain the benefit of the doubt no matter what.

If I was President of the United States, I'd make all news outlets have a caption at the bottom of every story to report the facts. On TV, they should have bubbles pop up next to the heads of people who say anything other than the facts and the bubble should state the facts. They've distorted Obama since day one so now the far left and the far right take issue with him. Then if he wins the election, the MSM will be pissed off that he doesn't allow them close enough to further distort his positions.

This is all a game......one sad game where the American people lose.

What is your question, dumb ass?

I am not Obama. I can not speak for Obama. I can speak for myself. Has the McCain Campaign given you permision to speak for yourself, Harley?

I'm was a Kucinich supporter, primarily on the issues of free trade and health care. Kucinich, in my opinion is correct in advocating the impeachment of Bush, Cheney and associates, as well as being correct on a bunch of other issues, especially free trade, and health care.

Hillary Clinton, back when the primaries began, being the presumptive nominee, (along with Giuliani), was arrogant enough to say that voting for the Iraq war was not a mistake, although she wished she knew then, what she knew now. This malarkey, along with "lobbyists are people too" was enough to have people scrambling for option "B", which was Obama.

So, now, we have Obama, but what do we really have? We have "Yes, we can", - provide the telecoms with immunity, as Bush requests, "Yes, we can", stay in Iraq until 2013 and so forth. So, in other words, we have "Yes, we can", but nobody ever asked "Where's the beef?". Obama knows now, that the primaries are over, that he can be arrogant with us like Hillary was.

Seems to me, we have nominated the fall guy, like Carter, who is going to take the heat for 'borrow and spend' economics that has led to the inflation and devaluation of the dollar, but who, with his "centrist" position, isn't going to enact any substantial change.

Noticed that no significant issue is out there to be debated by the candidates? Take gun violence. The gun violence is being exacerbated by drug addicts resorting to robbery to support their habits as well as black market operators running their operations, like what happened during prohibition. I don't think we need to go completely Libertarian on this issue, but I do think that once the user is physically dependent on heroin or crack cocaine, that it becomes a medical issue. Absent an effective cure, put the addict on a maintenance regime from their physician like England does. This destroys the motivation of the pusher to addict new users, because once the user becomes addicted, go see your doctor. The current policy is that we need to drum up new prisoners for America's privatized prison system with new addicts, which had the Reverend Wright condemning America.

OK, you don't care about addicts. How about people dying of cancer? We're being told that the private sector can resolve that issue. But, what we see, whether it's irritable bowel syndrome, or restless leg syndrome, is that the private sector is only capable of producing regimes that result in recurring revenue flows that enhance shareholder results. Curing anything is not part of a private sector solution because of no recurring revenue flows. We hear the Republicans talk a lot about losing an American city to terrorism. We spend about 50% of the worlds expenditures on defense, before a tank rolls out of the garage. The Iraq war is above and beyond these defense expenditures. We're talking about $600B for defense and maybe $100B for Iraq? Meanwhile, Bush has been reducing spending on cancer research, even though we lose more than an American city, year in and year out, in terms of population, to this disease. And, we're talking about a paltry sum, compared to the amounts pissed away in Iraq. We need a full declaration of war against cancer. Maybe these people aren't dying as sensational a death as the World Trade victims, but in the end, they are just as dead. What's cancer research, under $5B? Somebody has their heads up their butts - looks to me like it's the typical American voter.

This time around, there is a big difference between the lesser of two evils, and the greator of those evils. To recap, McCain has pledge to continue "borrow and spend", which has led to the inflation tax, he has pledged more nation building wars with his "rouge state rollback" program, and has advocated treating employer paid health care insurance as taxable imputed income (his sole contribution to the health care issue). So, I'm forced to hold my nose and vote for Barrack.

But hey, the American people let the corporate media box the public into a choice between bad and worse. So, I guess, lets get in there and vote for bad as opposed to worse. Supreme court nominees alone is enough to decide it. But I think all we'll get out of Obama is Republican lite. Hope as hell that I'm wrong.

Condoleezza Rice Says She's `Proud' of Decision to Invade Iraq
By Janine Zacharia
Enlarge Image/Details

July 3 (Bloomberg) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she's ``proud'' of the U.S. decision to wage the Iraq war and insisted that the world is not more dangerous than it was when George W. Bush took office.

``We're now beginning to see that perhaps it's not so popular to be a suicide bomber. We're beginning to see that perhaps people are questioning whether Osama Bin Laden ought to really be the face of Islam,'' Rice, 53, said in an interview to be broadcast this weekend on Bloomberg Television's ``Conversations with Judy Woodruff.''

``And I am proud of the decision of this administration to overthrow Saddam Hussein,'' said Rice, who was Bush's national security adviser at the time of the March 2003 invasion. As of yesterday, 4,107 U.S. soldiers died in Iraq and more than 30,000 were wounded. She said the Iraq war has been ``tougher than any of us really dreamed.''

From ThinkProgress:

Rice tends to forget what she thought of Iraq prior to 9/11. In July 2001, Rice said on CNN: “In terms of Saddam Hussein being there, let’s remember that his country is divided, in effect. He does not control the northern part of his country. We are able to keep arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt.”

This was a comment from Ron Chusid's blog:

Just as Davis is replaced by elevating senior strategist Steve Schmidt to head day-to-day operations, this happens. No coincidence. People, here’s how it works, step by step:

1. Schmidt decides what topic will hurt Obama the most right now. Obama’s focusing on patriotism? So shift slightly to military in Iran and apply a small push (Jujitsu 101).

2. The push: call a few friends. Best if they’re high up (not reporters - the story then becomes what you’re doing). No, best if your friends are people who tell reporters what story to pursue: “I’ve heard that Obama’s about to flip-flop on Iran. This is HUGE! Be sure you GET the story!”

3. Sit back and watch the fun. Primed by Schmidt, the press asks questions designed to pry this nascent flip-flop loose, then interprets any response to please their bosses.

4. Have your candidate (McCain if you’re Schmidt) ready with “I would never flip-flop. You can trust me. I’m steady Freddy when it comes to Iraq.”

5. When Obama inevitably attempts to set the record straight, hit him again: “See? He’s flopping back on his flip! This guy will say anything.”

6. Go have a few beers; democracy’s been saved yet again. Rove’s third term is in the bag. You might even listen to Mike Malloy rip Obama a new one. What a high!

7. Next day, do it all over again.

I thought that pretty well summed it up. They know they have nothing to run on so they pull this crap.

And America loses.

that is unadulterated psychotic hatred of self and self-in-denial. to lash out chaotically at every statement and every person means no solution was part of the objective. it was not even venting because venting has some therapeutic value.

Bush barely got in and he was not elected. They wanted and needed an attack. They needed SOMETHING to change his poll numbers. I bet they have been wishing for another attack for at least the last two years.

Great to see that video of the protesters at the Bush speech. I didn't realize that there were so many of them. Bush gets harder to watch each time I see him, what with the smirking, smiling, laughing and winking. The idiot even mentioned his upcoming birthday in his little speech. Clueless, classless imbecile.

Bush at Monticello - did you hear what someone in the crowd yelled during the Bush protests?

I believe this is the sad reality of the majority of the American population. Rather than accept and fix the problems with our government and the crimes of those elected to run our nation and enforce its laws, the vast majority of Americans ignore them.

Americans are a violent, agressive people, but they will say they love freedom.
Americans are selfish and ignorant, but they will say they are pursuing the American dream.
Americans are liars, torturers, and untrustable, but they will say they are dealing with a "new" enemy.
Americans attack those that bring truth, but say they are being patriotic.

And when you speak up and say, "look in the mirror America," Americans will say, "sit down and shut up."
