John McCain: 'I hate the bloggers'

John McCain, Town Hall Meeting, Merrimack, NH 12/29/07

Hey right wing bloggers. I think he's talking about you too.

JOHN MCCAIN: "Now we've got the cables. We've got talk radio. We've got the bloggers. I hate the bloggers. We've got all kinds of sources of information."

I'm giddy with the thought that he isn't very fond of me.

He hates the bloggers because they call him on his Sh*t.

If only you could send bar-b-q ribs over the internets tubes.

So, St. John hates the internets? I thought he couldn't use a computer!

do you think he actually knows what "the bloggers" are any more than he knows that "it's a google"?

we can hardly afford to have a president who is only aware of the internet.
we need a president who is aware of all internet traditions.

Your giddy-I'm something but at least he doesn't like me either so that good.

The Cables??

Chris Rich's picture

What could he possibly like about a medium that will humiliate and embarrass him across every day of his decrepit frog march to ignominy when he can finally sit down with Bob Dole and discuss graceful retirement?

"But...but ..TV World oracles swore it was in the bag."

And I'll dance on the wreckage of the broken tin kazoo.

McCain is older than God. I suprised he knows what Blogs do!

It´s early sunday morning here and I´m too tired to wait any longer.

OT, I do know that, but ....

Secret report: biofuel caused food crisis
Internal World Bank study delivers blow to plant energy drive

Biofuels have forced global food prices up by 75% - far more than previously estimated - according to a confidential World Bank report obtained by the Guardian.

The damning unpublished assessment is based on the most detailed analysis of the crisis so far, carried out by an internationally-respected economist at global financial body.

The figure emphatically contradicts the US government's claims that plant-derived fuels contribute less than 3% to food-price rises. It will add to pressure on governments in Washington and across Europe, which have turned to plant-derived fuels to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and reduce their dependence on imported oil.

Senior development sources believe the report, completed in April, has not been published to avoid embarrassing President George Bush.

"It would put the World Bank in a political hot-spot with the White House," said one yesterday.

The news comes at a critical point in the world's negotiations on biofuels policy. Leaders of the G8 industrialised countries meet next week in Hokkaido, Japan, where they will discuss the food crisis and come under intense lobbying from campaigners calling for a moratorium on the use of plant-derived fuels.

The bloggers hate you too, with a passion, and there are more of us than one senile, feeble McLame.

Snowball's picture

As a Republican John McCain relies on the public having fewer sources of information and fewer platforms for communication that cannot be controlled by a corporate filter. The Republican's ideal internet would emulate China's or Iran's tracking users and filtering out information that does not support the official dogma.

Of course Grandaddy hates bloggers. They call him on his lies and they aren't fighting to get to sit on his lap on his new plane, so they are free to tell the truth, even if he doesn't

moarku's picture

Of course he hates the bloggers. You guys (from either side) don't live and die on "special access" the way the traditional news sources do. That means he can't buy you off with barbecues and threats of not talking to you if you don't print what he wants.

Woooow... really didn't notice that one. Why do I get the idea that when he hears someone talk of watching 'cable', he would get an image of them literally looking into the end of one? I really think he's about a couple of decades past when he would've even been able to cope with the modern world, let alone run a piece of it.

GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DIRTY FUCKING HIPPIE BLOGGERS!

TlalocW's picture

Of course he does. The bloggers on the Left aren't going to like him, and the bloggers on the Right are - at best - slowly coming to accept him as their candidate while at worst, writing screeds about how he can still be replaced as the GOP's candidate.

I feel honored. This means that we are scaring the shit of out John McCain.

Amazing how the gop has the only amnesiac pachyderms in existence.

Ron's picture

Of coarse he hates the bloggers, because they research facts and provide links that we can click on and actually see or watch what was actually said. Of coarse that doesn't apply to right wing blogs that crop the real message just like the MSM does.

KayInMaine's picture

Johnny McTeleprompter doesn't understand bloggers because never in his life did he listen to his constituents and is surprised Americans have voices, opinions, and know more than he does. He's gotta be in shock.

jrg's picture

McCain's not fond of bloggers because the internet is where right wing falsehoods go to die. We need a leader that will help tap the power of individual voices and grassroots organization, not a 72-year-old Luddite.

Conservatives cannot win online because they have no central message or philosophy other than "It's OK if you are a Republican". McCain can't win online because the Ron Paul supporters are still out there, and he can't use Fox news to reach them.

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea for the GOP to use identity politics to piss all over niche groups of people at the same time those niche groups were organizing at a historically unprecedented pace. Technology's like a wave. The Dems are surfing on it, while the Republicans stand in neck-deep water and pretend the wave does not exist.

That kind of thinking went down the tubes starting in January 2001. Of course, Georgie throws out the freedom of speech as a way to convince everyone that he the king is wearing clothes...

Jesse Helms may have started as a Democrat and finished as a Republican. But he always sang "Dixie."

And those who sang it with him are now working for John McCain. Alex Castellanos, the veteran Republican media consultant who produced the so-called "White Hands" commercial that Helms used against Gantt, has according to the Washington Post been advising McCain's campaign on media strategy.

Castellanos bluntly refers to his work with Helms as "The Cause." And That cause has attracted other key players from the late senator's campaigns.

Republican strategist Charlie Black, perhaps the most prominent member of McCain's political inner circle (especially since he suggested that a terrorist attack on the U.S. would benefit the Republican's prospects this fall), advised Helms throughout much of the senator's career and played a particularly central role in the 1990 campaign, according to contemporary media accounts.

Its an uncomfortable position - much like when Falwell died. I hate to take joy in someone's death, but what else am I supposed to do. There is no one who can honestly eulogize either of those two without throwing in some huge disclaimers.

I wasn't too sad when Nixon, Reagan, or Milosevic died. I won't be broken up when Kissinger, Robertson, and Bob Novak die either. Kristol I would kill with my bare hands if I ever met him.

He's just repeating what Americans hear all the time: "It's the bloggers that are causing all the trouble! It's not reliable if you heard it on some blog! I hate bloggers!" That makes about as much sense as disparaging all magazines because not all of them are reliable or contain accurate information. And in McCain's case, there are plenty of right-wing blogs that are trumpeting exactly the kinds of stuff he loves. Like most Americans, he repeats common phrases without thinking.

Drane's picture

C'mon, John, lets have some context.

I don't trust McCain, but this is a statement out of context, much like what the right has done to Michelle Obama, Rev. Wright, et. al. Do not ever simply quote a statement without context. In reality, we have no idea what McCain was saying from this clip. Let's have some integrity.

Context is everything.

The politicians have problems with the bloggers because the blogs provide an alternative to the corporate media in shaping public opinion. Remember that the courts have found that "an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will prevail" - a marketplace where there is a "wide diversity of viewpoints from a multiplicity of sources..." facilitates an informed decision at the polls. The discussions at the blogs help to dismiss the specious explanations from the substantiated. I found the read at the Huffington blog quite illuminating. That's the key term, illuminating: to make clear : elucidate. The big keyword for the alternative reality crowd: obfuscate. Another term for the alternative reality crowd: lie.

Now, remembering that making an informed decision depends on "an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will prevail" - a marketplace where there is a "wide diversity of viewpoints from a multiplicity of sources...", one has to look at the telecom participation in the wiretapping in light of policy decisions that occurred during that period. There was the FCC ruling to eliminate competition on the "last mile" of copper leading into a home, which reduced competition in dsl. Now, we see the cables and DSL providers insinuating that bandwidth constraints are coming. Like media consolidation, the reduction of competition in internet is essential in implementing bandwidth constraints, so that the internet doesn't become a competitor to the broadcast media.

Aljazeera English, Russia Today, and CNN-IBN seem to be working from this link. There is also a link to PressTv, which I didn't check out, because that's available from TVUnetworks. It's an Iranian station - while I'm capable of dismissing the specious theory, I like to hear from the horses mouth once in a while. When the government is dissing the Iranians, I like to hear their point of view also, because Iraq has taught us that or government is not to be depended on to tell us the truth.

McCain probably hates anything/everything he can't control; or understand.
He's an old bitter man who's past his sell by date.

Hey John, my mother blogs. You hate my mother?

Does her father own a brewery ?

Now that's funny, though, beer distributor would be more accurate. I suppose as long as she has mega bucks it wouldn't matter if it was from selling Russian guns to Iran.

This is just further proof that if hell freezes over and he becomes president, McCrank will ban all technology dating after 1980 and enact every policy he can to take us back there.

You "hate bloggers," McCain? Hmm, hating Americans, how presidential of you. (/snark).

You got that right. After bush pulled that bs about environmental checks on solar energy to make sure it wasn't going to harm the environment . And McCain will just follow on that trail. The guy has no clue. Well actually he does have a clue, He's just not listening to himself. fool.

It's all your fault, John Amato! Bravo!!! Well done, my brother.

Too bad. The internet and bloggers are the new, unfiltered or spun journalism. Deal with it, McSame. God bless the bloggers! They are a drink of cool, fresh water in an arid desert of lies and misdirection.

No Sensors In The Bloggersphear

Say what you will John McSame. You can find it somewhere in the "Bloggersphear."
I know there is a lot of slant on blogs. However, if you really want the truth, you can find it somewhere on a blog. The mainstream media can't touch it, sensor it, and because they deal in some truths, they can't challenge it.

On the blog, the everyday person can express their unique perspective. Now, the little notion you had about something the MSM would not touch can be brought out, confirmed, and passed on. And it that is not enough, you can add links to where the truth lives. Hows that for "you can't touch this?"

If I were a Republican, I would hate the blogs too. Anything and every thing they say can be researched and exposed for the true lie it usually is. Since McSame hates it, I will take the time to celebrate it with all its diversity, its uniqueness, and its collective powers.

Isn't it interesting that we have a Presidential Candidate that "hates" stuff?

That to me, is the big news in this. It's clear McCain does not grok blogs, bloggers and Internet dynamics in general. When one hates something they do not understand, they will do irrational things.

He's a hot head too!

Perhaps this is why.

Combined with his age, that's a very bad combination, SCOTUS implications aside.

IMHO, would be a great move to just hammer him on this. Don't understand it? Human. Hate it without first working to understand it? Dangerous and lazy.

Given his constant shifting on things, there is a strong case for there being a whole lot he does not understand.

George's picture

LOL...I'm a hothead too. So when I see McSame open his ugly gob, I get the same reaction as when Bush or Cheney open their idjit holes. A kind of Tourette's takes over.

Yep. The blogs are here to keep those assholes lies apparent. And meanwhile, McBushit can take his comfort in the garbage propaganda of mainstream media...ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, NPR, NY Times. They all fucking suck the shit out of the ass of life which should suit senile Johnny Flyboy just fine.

linda's picture

hahahaha -- and notice who he didn't mention -- the national political press corps. man, doesn't that just say everythnig you need to know about what's wrong with the media.

of course, st john hates bloggers -- that's the only place where he's being challenged and held accountable for his statements and flippity-floppities.

marbotty's picture

Don't worry folks, in a week he'll tell the press that he loves the bloggers.

missmarple's picture

What could he possibly like about a medium that will humiliate and embarrass him across every day of his decrepit frog march to ignominy when he can finally sit down with Bob Dole and discuss graceful retirement?

And I assume discuss the benefits of Viagra?

You people are self absorbed.

maybe he hates the "cable guy" :P

Well, I'm sure the feelings are mutual.

Me_again's picture

Saying he hates bloggers is the same as saying he hates voters.

That's what it sounds like to me. The bloggers are the people.

Anyway - I don't thing that right-wing blogs give money to their candidate like netroot bloggers do. McCain is corporate sponsored - the righties don't consider campaign funding because it's entitlement welfare and they have no problem with corporate control candidates.

James M. Martin's picture

Of course McBush hates bloggers. The internet is the most democratic tool the People ever had. Someday, all voting will be done by computer (and Diebold will NOT be involved!). McBush dislike bloggers because he can't stand the very idea of democracy. No oligarch does. You don't have to be a war-mongering plutocrat married to a beer brewing heiress to exercise your First Amendment privileges online. You can be a little guy right out of a Frank Capra movie, a nobody. If the McBushes have their way, there won't even be an internet. Look at China, where you can't even do business online unless you agree to censor your content. McBush isn't a democrat (small "d"), he's another crypto-fascist in the tradition of Shrub, Rove, Cheney, et al. He's a born again neocon.

Thanks, John. Add 'the cables' to 'the google' and 'the internets'. Man are they dumb.
He likes the cables - BBQ's and Fox News.

Are 'the cables' like the networks? Or the Newspapers?

Please! We can't elect this guy president. I can't handle 4 more years of mangled grammar.

Frankly, to be fair, I think your exception to his use of "cables" is a little childish. I'm sure it was shorthand for "the cable networks." For some of you people who often write illegibly, with misspellings, mispunctuation, incoherent sentences you shouldn't key in on such petty things.
And before you send further incoherent rants regarding my comment, I do not like McLame myself. Grow up.

bour3's picture

Most idiotic and mean-spirited line of comments I've ever read. FAIL! This is why I avoid people generally, I end up meeting people like you. I'm diminished for having been linked to this cesspool.

If being captured in battle and tortured for 5+ years qualifies McSame for the presidency, then the next 250 Afgan presidents are or were "residents" of GItmo.

142 torch Says: “Grow up"

I’m not standing in front of fellow American citizens running for President of the United States. I’m not asking you to vote for me so I can have my “finger on the button” as the Commander ‘n Chief. I’m not asking you to vote for me to represent ALL Americans.

So if you don’t mind, I’ll keep writing my poor grammar, incomplete sentence, provincial, pedestrian, half backed thoughts, cuz that is what freedom of speech is all about.

It seem that while you do not like McLame, you do agree that one should not express themselves, unless they meet some preconceived content rule. With you, it’s grammar and spelling. With McLame it’s anything that is contrary to his views or gets in the way of his assent to power.

So, I'll keep misspelling... keep butchering the English language. But, if you would take a moment to look past your grammar filter and try to understand the meaning of what us under-educated bloggers are saying you'll read a sea change in politics is here. THAT IS WHY McLAME HATES TEH BLOGGERS.

McCain Rules's picture

Look, it's simple. Bloggers provide views that you will not find in the mainstream media. They provide "alternative" views that people have not considered. They make people confused about what really happened. These are views that don't go hand in hand with those of the government. That is OBVIOUSLY a bad thing. Our government always tries to tell people the truth and bloggers say other points of view that only confuse !!! Keep it simple . Listen to the government. Ignore the bloggers.
